a whiff of (temporary) sanity in AZ
Arizona Supreme Court struck down more than a ban on mask mandates in schools.
Here's everything that's no longer law.
A ban on face mask mandates and critical race theory in schools were highest-profile laws that were thrown out when the Arizona Supreme Court tossed numerous provisions of the state budget (https://www.azmirror.com/2021/11/02/supreme-court-unanimously-strikes-down-mask-mandate-critical-race-theory-bans/) for violating the Arizona Constitution,
included prohibitions on colleges and universities requiring students to wear masks, get vaccines or submit to regular testing;
barring K-12 schools from requiring students to take vaccines that have received emergency approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration;
and barring cities and counties from requiring “vaccine passports" or otherwise imposing pandemic-related restrictions on private businesses, schools and churches.
now-defunct laws would have severely curtailed future governors' ability to use emergency powers to manage health emergencies such as the coronavirus outbreak.
Various election laws were also scrapped
One provision would have required counties that wanted to include anti-fraud countermeasures in their ballots to use specific kinds of types of paper and specific technologies, such as holographic foil, special inks and watermarks.
A $12 million “election integrity fund" that the state treasurer would have administered to fund
election security measures at the county level is also now gone.
a trial court ruling in a separate case on Tuesday rejected a provision of fifth budget bill, also on single-subject grounds, that
would have barred the City of Phoenix's plans for civilian review of its police department (https://www.azmirror.com/2021/07/06/new-laws-take-the-civilian-out-of-civilian-review-boards-overseeing-police/).
The courts struck down all of the laws on procedural grounds,
meaning that nothing would stop the legislature from passing them anew once they're back in session.
All they would have to do is pass them as standalone bills — the same way most legislation is passed — or in another manner that didn't violate the single-subject rule.

Meet the new Alex Jones: Conspiracy nut with a troubling criminal past is MAGA's new favorite 'shock jock'
https://www.rawstory.com/media-library/stew-peters-photos-screen-captures.jpg?id=27908052&width=800&height=450
Stew Peters the new and less-unhinged version of Alex Jones -- and their feature reveals a slate of police reports showing Peters has had quite a few run-ins with the law.
His problems with the law started as far back as his teen years.
He was convicted of theft as a youngster,
years later he was arrested in Florida in 2006 for falsely impersonating an officer and robbery with a deadly weapon among other things.
When Peters was arrested in February, he told the police that it would hurt his bounty-hunting career.
"You are ruining my kids' lives, I'll never earn a goddamn dime!"
refused to take a COVID test, going so far as to threaten the officers.
"If someone sticks something up my nose while I'm in handcuffs you will be arresting me for something a lot more serious,"
the problems with Peters in his bounty hunting career.
He would frequently dress as if he was an officer (https://www.postbulletin.com/news/news/politics/lawmakers-crack-down-on-bounty-hunters/article_5ebd79b6-91fe-50bd-8b81-a3ead7aad586.html),
leading his state to pass a law restricting what bounty hunters could wear.
launched a YouTube channel touting his own victories, which were mostly just videos of him tasing people.
Two of Peters' staff found the man and attempted to detain him,
but the suspect pulled a gun, resulting in a shootout in a car dealership filled with customers and staff.
"At the end of the gunfight, the suspect and the two bounty hunters had all been fatally shot.
Later, the dealership's owner claimed the bounty hunters had falsely identified themselves as federal agents,"

Steve Bannon's popular podcast is a 'dangerous' fantasyland of election lies
Steve Bannon's aggressive campaign (https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/23/politics/steve-bannon-january-6-capitol-riot/index.html) to undermine American democracy didn't stop on January 6.
In the fantasyland of Bannon and friends,
Trump won the 2020 election "in a landslide" (he lost),
Trump's victory (which didn't occur) was ripped from his hands by a sprawling list of cheaters (pure fiction),
and President Joe Biden's win can still be decertified (nope (https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/28/politics/arizona-audit-finchem-decertify-fact-check/index.html)).
Bannon spoke (https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/listen.warroom.org/e/episode-1333-**B-the-continued-search-for-truth-of-jan-6thw-darren-beattie-dr-carol-swain-bernie-kerik-terry-schilling-cleta-mitchell/__;4oCT!!AQdq3sQhfUj4q8uUguY!1L-k-Dk-fSge-GI7Yi3tEHc2OXaEtikIiqIQT8m63HPva-n0SQCKI2T7nyh2LQID426Xl3pt$) approvingly in October about how his efforts have reduced Americans' faith in "the legitimacy of Joe Biden's regime."
He has made frequent pleas for supporters to reshape the Republican party by signing up
to serve as "precinct committeemen." :lol election riggers/cheaters
"It is hard to overstate how dangerous Bannon's words and actions are,"
"He's creating an army of duped people
who will go into positions helping to run elections with the false understanding that the 2020 election was stolen.
Who knows what such people are capable of doing when in charge of running polling places or counting votes."
counties around the country had seen an unusual surge in people looking to sign up for Republican precinct positions after Bannon began advocating the idea early this year.
tens of thousands of members in "War Room" fan groups on Telegram, an app popular for its group chats.
"The fans can then extend the beliefs of the show, sometimes in harmful ways,"
Here are just 10 of the election lies that have been told on the podcast since mid-July.
Bannon said Trump not only won the 2020 election but "won in a landslide." (Trump lost (https://www.cnn.com/election/2020/results/president) by 74 votes in the Electoral College and more than seven million actual votes.)
Navarro said that, at midnight on Election Night, "it was very clear that President Donald J. Trump had won the election." (To anyone who actually understands elections, it never seemed (https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/04/politics/fact-check-trump-election-night-speech/index.html) that Trump had won. Trump did have midnight leads in some key states, but it was clear at the time that many mail-in votes and votes from Democratic-leaning cities hadn't been counted yet.)
Lindell said Trump "won New Hampshire and Minnesota" in 2020. (Trump lost each (https://www.cnn.com/election/2020/results/state/new-hampshire)state (https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.sos.state.mn.us/elections-voting/election-results/2020/2020-general-election-results/__;!!AQdq3sQhfUj4q8uUguY!1L-k-Dk-fSge-GI7Yi3tEHc2OXaEtikIiqIQT8m63HPva-n0SQCKI2T7nyh2LQID48slAEU5$) by more than seven percentage points.)
Former Trump White House aide Boris Epshteyn (https://www.cnn.com/2017/03/25/politics/epshteyn-leaving-white-house/index.html) said Arizona's Maricopa County was "polluted" with "74,000 extra ballots"; Giuliani said those ballots were "made out by Democratic operatives." (False and false. The claim about 74,000 unexplained ballots in Maricopa, which came from the person hired to run the sham Republican "audit" in the county, had already been definitively debunked (https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/18/politics/fact-check-maricopa-audit-arizona-cyber-ninjas-74000/index.html) by the time Giuliani repeated it.)
Giuliani said that in Georgia, 68,000 people voted even though they were under the legal voting age of 18. (There was no evidence (https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/sos.ga.gov/admin/uploads/Letter*20to*20Congress*20from*20Secretary*20Raffen sperger*20(1-6-21).pdf__;JSUlJSUl!!AQdq3sQhfUj4q8uUguY!1L-k-Dk-fSge-GI7Yi3tEHc2OXaEtikIiqIQT8m63HPva-n0SQCKI2T7nyh2LQID47z5l9a8$) that any underage person voted in Georgia, let alone tens of thousands of underage people.)
During a conversation about Arizona, Giuliani asserted that undocumented immigrants would be shown to be responsible for "30 (thousand), 40,000" illegitimate votes. (There is, again, no evidence for these figures. And there is no evidence that a large number of undocumented people voted illegally in any state.)
Keshel, the supposed data analyst, said there was a "67-county operation" to fraudulently "shave" Trump's vote totals in Pennsylvania. (This is just completely imaginary.)
Keshel said "there was a plan in place" to rig Florida, which only failed because Trump did better than expected with voters in the south of the state, and that the election results were "tremendously off" even in Texas. (Nonsense and nonsense. There was simply no such Florida plot; the Texas results, showing that Trump won by more than five percentage points, are accurate.)
Radio host John Fredericks (https://www.johnfredericksradio.com/) said the Georgia counties of Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb and Gwinnett "represent the majority of fake Democratic voters in Georgia, where they had all the fraud." (There is no evidence of widespread election fraud in Georgia, nor any evidence that any Georgia county has a significant problem with "fake" voters.)
Lindell said the election technology company Dominion Voting Systems was a key player in rigging the election and then engaged in a "cover-up." (There is zero (https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/16/politics/fact-check-trump-rigged-election-dominion-georgia-pennsylvania/index.html) indication of any wrongdoing involving Dominion, let alone extensive fraud, and thus, obviously, no cover-up. Dominion has sued (https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/22/business/dominion-voting-systems-sues-mypillow-ceo/index.html) Lindell for defamation, seeking $1.3 billion in damages.)

Repug party, in the Conferacy, spawns seditionist assholes
Josh Hawley ridiculed after his bizarre interview:
'It’s hard to be a leader and a victim at the same time'
men aren't really "a man" if they play video games, aren't fathers or husbands and various other things.
McCaskill prefaced.
"He's said stuff like this before.

where he talked about that it was
the birth control pill and women discovering sexuality that caused sex trafficking.
So, this is not a shocker."
Hawley's quote, explaining,
"I want everyone to understand the three virtues that he called the manly virtues.
He said these are the traditional masculine virtues that women are taking away from men.
He named courage, independence, and assertiveness."
he thinks by making men the victim, he becomes their champion, and he's the new Donald Trump."
"Josh Hawley is trying to make his followers victims and he is going to be their champion to lead them out of victimhood into dominance again.
what he's basically saying to the women of America,
you have got to quit having courage, being assertive and quit being independent
so we can go back to a time where everybody in college was a man.

Ostracism of dissidents.
No longer a big tent, now it's a Trumpist straitjacket.
The Wyoming Republican Party will no longer recognize Liz Cheney as a member of the GOP in its second formal rebuke for her criticism of former President Donald Trump.
The 31-29 vote Saturday in Buffalo, Wyoming, by the state party central committee followed votes by local GOP officials in about one-third of Wyoming’s 23 counties to no longer recognize Cheney as a Republican.
In February, the Wyoming GOP central committee voted overwhelmingly to censure Cheney, Wyoming’s lone U.S. representative, for voting to impeach Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

The Republican Party's Murderous New Normal
This telling moment heightens the
feeling of apprehension provoked by recurring threats and incidents of actual violence emanating from the far right and then
justified, usually with indignant enthusiasm, by Republican elected officials at the highest level.
The anger and hatred that have long simmered within that party are rapidly devolving into homicidal rage.
All but two House Republicans voted to excuse Gosar's glorification of political violence.
What has changed in the past few years is
the accelerating acceptance of violence among Republicans
since the defeat of former President Donald Trump and
his encouragement of sedition and insurrection by his followers,
who now form the Republican Party's boiling base.
McCarthy, it is no longer possible to act with decency and principle against the neo-fascist element in his caucus if he ever wants to be speaker of the House.
McCarthy is a leader only in one respect: he leads in Republican cowardice.
At a public event in Idaho, where a man asked when he could "kill these people," meaning Democrats, and was applauded loudly;
at school board meetings across the country, where "concerned parents" threaten to murder public officials and their families;
at the homes of election officials who answer the phone at night and hear obscenely menacing words.
the justification of it by Republican officialdom — and their attacks on officials who seek to investigate and discourage those threats.

fascist brownshirts out in force and gaining in strength
Fueled by Trump-inspired grievance, attempts to terrorize public officials escalate
Through public records requests, several previously unreported incidents came to light —
while Capitol Police officials say the agency expects to log more than 9,000 threats this year.
even elections officials (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/1-3-election-officials-report-feeling-unsafe-new-survey-finds-n1270968) — a less prominent rung of public service that is nonetheless central to democracy — are reporting threats.
records detailing any threats over the last year to 37 public officials.
The list included congressional Republicans who voted to impeach or convict Trump;
Democrats who, like Neguse, served as impeachment managers;
and high-profile governors and secretaries of state.
Most agencies reported having no relevant documents or cited legal exemptions that prevent the disclosure of a public official’s security concerns.
they feel that they can say whatever they want to say and actually make threats against your life
What's distressing is … the reason that they believe this is that they've been lied to.”
sinister tone of political dialogue has expanded to smaller partisan grievances and debates over policy, with
Trump and Republicans egging on the vitriol.

Federal investigation finds a key part of the 2020 Republican National Convention was illegal
back in August 2020 when former unlawfully appointed (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/8/14/1969214/-Legislators-demand-resignations-after-GAO-finds-DHS-leaders-were-unlawfully-appointed-to-positions) acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Chad Wolf presided over
a political stunt (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/8/26/1972445/-Trump-tries-to-erase-years-of-attacks-on-legal-immigration-system-with-naturalization-stunt) that used immigrants as human props as part of an effort to reelect the previous president?
A number of the immigrants who were sworn in as U.S. citizens in that White House naturalization ceremony would later say (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/8/27/1972737/-Immigrants-from-Trump-s-naturalization-stunt-say-they-didn-t-know-it-would-be-used-at-convention) they weren't informed prior to the stunt that it would be broadcast as part of the Republican National Convention.
the Office of Special Counsel has determined that
at least 13 officials with the previous administration violated the Hatch Act, "illegally mixing campaign and government events."
Among those named is, unsurprisingly, Unlawful Chad.
The Office of Special Counsel said in the report (https://osc.gov/Documents/Hatch%20Act/Reports/Investigation%20of%20Political%20Activities%20by%2 0Senior%20Trump%20Administration%20Officials%20Dur ing%20the%202020%20Presidential%20Election.pdf) that the administration had been warned repeatedly that such an event would be unlawful.

Untraceable 3D-printed guns are now an epidemic, and
the GOP is making it worse
Between 2016 and 2020, over 23,000 unserialized firearms were used in crimes, including 325 homicides and attempted homicides.
One man, whose family claimed he suffered from mental illness (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/gunman-california-shooting-spree-needed-mental-help-sister-says-n821216) and was forbidden from obtaining firearms, ordered kits to build multiple AR-15 assault rifles. He proceeded to go on a deadly rampage (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/california-mass-shooter-made-his-own-killing-machines-n821516)at several locations, including an elementary school.
A gunman in Baltimore also constructed an AR-15, which he used to shoot at four police officers (https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/cmte_testimony/2020/jpr/3401_03032020_102736-675.pdf).
The Obama administration’s State Department stopped a libertarian activist, Cody Wilson, from publishing blueprints (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/3d-printed-gun-blueprints-pulled-from-internet-at-request-of-state-department/) of 3D-printed weapons on the internet, and multiple courts ruled in favor of this policy.
However, once Trump came into office, that decision was reversed. In fact,
Wilson said the Trump administration gave him “everything they wanted (https://www.wired.com/story/a-landmark-legal-shift-opens-pandoras-box-for-diy-guns/),”
allowing Wilson to not only publish his blueprints,
but reimbursing him $40,000 for legal costs.
With Republican obstruction, Democrats and victims have been forced to get creative, and they have with civil suits (https://ktla.com/news/california/san-francisco-suing-3-california-based-ghost-gun-makers/).

very visibly Congressional Republicans, who are apparently super pissed off over the seizure of huge amounts of drugs by the Biden administration. Seriously.

“In May, 934 POUNDS of fentanyl was seized at our southern border, this is a 300% INCREASE from May 2020,” :lol
tweeted (https://twitter.com/HouseGOP/status/1404480205096431618?s=20) the House Republican caucus itself.
“Biden’s border crisis becomes more deadly with each passing day and Vice President Kamala Harris is still MIA.” “899 lbs of fentanyl and 15,631 lbs of methamphetamine were seized at the southern border in October alone,” tweeted GOP Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel.
“That much fentanyl is the equivalent of 204 MILLION lethal doses. We need border security!” :lol
“Welcome 2 Pres Biden’s America where 10,000 pounds of fentanyl hv been seized by Customs & Border patrol so far this fiscal yr :lol
which is enough to kill over 2 billion ppl or more than 1/4 of the world’s population,” Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley opined (https://twitter.com/ChuckGrassley/status/1455180010646646786?s=20) this month.

The line between right-wing trolling and violence is collapsing
Gaetz of Florida, Madison Cawthorne of North Carolina, and Paul Gosar of Arizona — all Republicans more interested in trolling than governance — made showily public offers of an internship to Rittenhouse (https://www.salon.com/2021/11/18/matt-gaetz-praises-kyle-rittenhouse-for-helping-the-country-offers-him-a-congressional-internship/).
Cawthorne even took it to the next level, instructing his supporters to "be armed and dangerous."
Greene of Georgia let loose (https://twitter.com/mtgreenee/status/1462447643939033089) with some truly unhinged tweets about "radical Marxists" who are trying to start "a race war," proclaiming that "gun rights are the only thing holding back the Communist Revolution the Democrats are waging."
Right-wing pundits joined in on all the gleeful trolling, as well.
Ann Coulter tweeted a meme equating Rittenhouse with superheroes,
Steven Crowder (https://www.mediamatters.org/steven-crowder/youtube-steven-crowder-encourages-people-take-arms-against-protesters-its-not-only) celebrated the verdict by insisting, "it's so wrong that we teach young men that violence is immoral,"
They got attention and garnered liberal outrage.
"Liberal tears" are the most valuable commodity in Republican circles these days, and
nothing brings forth tears like senseless violence.
illustrates how violence is the logical endpoint of the right-wing obsession with trolling liberals.
By celebrating this violence, congressional Republicans and right-wing media are openly inviting more of it
The flashpoints of Republicans and conservatives promoting political violence have become ceaseless, to the point of frightening normalization,"
but nearly all Republicans stood by Gosar (https://www.salon.com/2021/11/17/rally-to-paul-gosars-side-refuse-to-support-vote-to-censure/). The excuse used to defend Gosar's behavior was that he was just trolling liberals for fun.

American Stormtroopers Organize a Kyle Brigade
https://miro.medium.com/max/870/0*5pkZWydvtFCHoGv4
the “militia movement” has been organizing thousands of trigger-happy American white men into paramilitaries.
Just like the Nazi SA “brownshirts,” this will function as the armed wing of the Party, which is easily
deployed to intimidate and kill political opponents and designated scapegoat groups:
Jews first and foremost in Nazi Germany,
Blacks first and foremost here in America,
though “illegal aliens,” Jews, Muslims, noncompliant school boards(!) and others will not be far behind.
Setbacks like the conviction of Ahmaud Arbery’s murderers will only further inflame the Party and its stormtroopers.
When the dictator returns to power in triumph, if he is shrewd enough to let more organized planners run things for him, or if some such figure should himself come to take the dictator’s place at the head of the Party and the country,
then the American Stormtroopers will have served their purpose
At that point, a revamped FBI, a greatly expanded ICE, or a new federal secret police agency will step in to fill the role of the Gestapo and the S.S.

Missouri GOP political consultant gets probation in felony tax fraud case
Passanise also provided the judge with numerous letters of support vouching for Barklage’s character, most coming from his clients and other political consultants.
the indictment says he failed to report $443,633 in income and failed to pay $151,843 in taxes.
Barklage deposited all of these funds into his personal bank account, the indictment says, instead of his business bank accounts.
These funds and earnings “were not included on Barklage’s tax returns for the years 2012, 2013, and 2014,”

Blatant, rampant MISOGYNY of white male supremacists' War on Women
Next Up On GOP’s Agenda: Stripping Women Of Political & Economic Power
banning most forms of birth control used today, including birth control pills and the IUD.
Step one is to hyper-regulate “morning after pills.”
the Texas legislature passed SB4 (https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/872/billtext/pdf/SB00004F.pdf#navpanes=0).
This particularly insidious law (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/sep/22/texas-abortion-inducing-drugs-law-greg-abbott) makes it a crime for women to be prescribed abortion-inducing Mifeprex (https://www.fda.gov/drugs/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers/mifeprex-mifepristone-information) (works up to 70 days after the last menstrual period), Cytotec (https://safe2choose.org/safe-abortion/abortion-pills/types-abortion-pill-brands/cytotec) (works up to the 13th week of pregnancy) and methotrexate (works up to the 9th week of pregnancy) any later than three weeks after missing a period.
The law specifically criminalizes physicians and healthcare institutions who prescribe or provide these drugs outside of that parameter.
Greg Abbott (said) straight up if he’d be able to ban birth all control pills in Texas he suggested it was still possible (https://twitter.com/lawindsor/status/1447947406600032271).
step two in the GOP’s War on Women.
Republicans — most famously Rick Santorum (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/rick-santorum-birth-control-sodomy_n_1181291) — have run for president saying that states have the right to ban birth control pills,
“Personhood” bills that would define any birth control method that prevents the fertilized egg from implanting in the uterine wall — which includes IUDs and all birth control pills — have passed at least one legislative branch in Montana (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/montana/articles/2021-03-18/montana-house-advances-personhood-bill-to-limit-abortions), Kansas (http://www.kslegislature.org/li_2014/b2013_14/measures/documents/hb2253_enrolled.pdf), Virginia (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/va-house-passes-personhood-abortion-bill/), Tennessee (https://republicandaily.com/2021/05/bill-declaring-personhood-begins-at-conception-passes-tennessee-general-assembly/), North Dakota (https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/personhood-bills-introduced-gain-traction-across-us/), Arkansas (https://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/Bills/Document?type=pdf&chamber=SB&source=Bills&bill=417&ddBienniumSession=2013%2F2013R), and Mississippi (http://christiansforpersonhood.com/index.php/2017/11/07/us-roman-catholic-bishops-and-national-right-to-life-do-not-support-personhood-legislation/) and been introduced by Republicans in Ohio (https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/ohio-introduces-personhood-bill-to-recognize-all-abortions-as-murder/), Georgia, Maine (http://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/bills/bills_126th/billtexts/HP083701.asp), Texas, South Carolina (http://christiansforpersonhood.com/), Oklahoma, Iowa and in the US Congress. (https://www.bustle.com/p/what-is-the-personhood-bill-hr-586-is-affront-to-women-everywhere-33079)
During Mike Pence’s first year as governor of Indiana, his state put a young woman in prison for having a miscarriage, alleging that she’d taken an abortion-causing drug. Purvi Patel (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/apr/02/it-isnt-justice-for-purvi-patel-to-serve-20-years-in-prison-for-an-abortion) didn’t have a trace of such a drug in her system, but Pence’s state sentenced her to 20 years in prison anyway.
Bei Bei Shuai (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/may/30/indiana-prosecuting-chinese-woman-suicide-foetus) for 435 days in the brutal maximum security Marion County prison, facing 45 years to life for trying to kill herself and, in the process, causing the death of her 33-week fetus.
Utah charged 28-year-old Melissa Ann Rowland (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mom-arrested-after-utah-stillbirth/) with murder because she refused a C-section, preferring vaginal birth for her twins, and one of them died.
Sixteen-year-old Rennie Gibbs (https://www.propublica.org/article/stillborn-child-charge-of-murder-and-disputed-case-law-on-fetal-harm) was charged by the state of Mississippi with “depraved heart murder” when her baby was born dead because his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck: her crime was that she had cocaine in her bloodstream, according to prosecutors.
Angela Carder (https://www.nytimes.com/1990/12/08/opinion/the-fruit-of-angela-carder-s-agony.html) was ordered to have a C-section to deliver her baby before she died of cancer; both she and the baby died from the procedure.
there were 413 documented—and probably thousands of lesser-known—cases of women being prosecuted for having miscarriages or attempting abortions between the time Roe v. Wade became the law of the land and 2005.
Next up on the GOP’s agenda to strip women of political and economic power will be banning most forms of birth control used today, including birth control pills and the IUD.
Step one is to hyper-regulate “morning after pills.”
While Texas’s 100% GOP SB8 law that puts $10,000 bounties on friends of women who get abortions receives all the attention, that same week the Texas legislature passed SB4 (https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/872/billtext/pdf/SB00004F.pdf#navpanes=0).
Which, of course, is step two in the GOP’s War on Women.
Republicans — most famously Rick Santorum (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/rick-santorum-birth-control-sodomy_n_1181291) — have run for president saying that states have the right to ban birth control pills, and multiple states are pushing so-called “personhood” bills that specify that human life begins at the moment of fertilization in the fallopian tubes.
“Personhood” bills that would define any birth control method that prevents the fertilized egg from implanting in the uterine wall — which includes IUDs and all birth control pills — have passed at least one legislative branch in Montana (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/montana/articles/2021-03-18/montana-house-advances-personhood-bill-to-limit-abortions), Kansas (http://www.kslegislature.org/li_2014/b2013_14/measures/documents/hb2253_enrolled.pdf), Virginia (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/va-house-passes-personhood-abortion-bill/), Tennessee (https://republicandaily.com/2021/05/bill-declaring-personhood-begins-at-conception-passes-tennessee-general-assembly/), North Dakota (https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/personhood-bills-introduced-gain-traction-across-us/), Arkansas (https://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/Bills/Document?type=pdf&chamber=SB&source=Bills&bill=417&ddBienniumSession=2013%2F2013R), and Mississippi (http://christiansforpersonhood.com/index.php/2017/11/07/us-roman-catholic-bishops-and-national-right-to-life-do-not-support-personhood-legislation/) and been introduced by Republicans in Ohio (https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/ohio-introduces-personhood-bill-to-recognize-all-abortions-as-murder/), Georgia, Maine (http://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/bills/bills_126th/billtexts/HP083701.asp), Texas, South Carolina (http://christiansforpersonhood.com/), Oklahoma, Iowa and in the US Congress. (https://www.bustle.com/p/what-is-the-personhood-bill-hr-586-is-affront-to-women-everywhere-33079)
Next summer it’s safe to assume women will lose abortion rights in at last half of American states. If the personhood advocates in the GOP have their way, that could soon expand to birth control pills and extend across the entire nation.
And now the GOP’s Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice is on its way. It’s not as if we weren’t warned:
These cases have exploded in recent years (https://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/08/opinion/pregnant-and-no-civil-rights.html), as the GOP and
the nation’s law enforcement system have embraced the American “Christian” version of Sharia law
which dictates that women are the property of men and their principal purpose for existence is reproduction.
According to Duke University’s Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law (https://read.dukeupress.edu/jhppl/article/38/2/299/13533/Arrests-of-and-Forced-Interventions-on-Pregnant), there were 413 documented—and probably thousands of lesser-known—cases of women being prosecuted for having miscarriages or attempting abortions between the time Roe v. Wade became the law of the land and 2005.
Between 2005 and 2014, the Guttmacher Institute documented another 380 (https://www.guttmacher.org/gpr/2012/03/troubling-trend-more-states-hostile-abortion-rights-middle-ground-shrinks) cases.
any woman in that state who has a miscarriage at risk of 30 years in prison (https://www.businessinsider.com/women-30-years-prison-miscarriage-georgia-abortion-2019-5) or even the death penalty.
Other states are in line, and in those states, like Georgia, with the death penalty, many are proposing legislation to put women who have abortions to death.
Romania, ... At least 10,000 women died of botched illegal abortions (that’s the official number; the real number is probably 10 times that) before Nicolae Ceaușescu was deposed and the law was repealed.
maternal death was higher than any other country in Europe by a factor of ten (https://tinyurl.com/y5fm6y6z) and poverty exploded.
Given that one out of four pregnancies ends in miscarriage (and new research suggests (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33224477/) it may be as many as half of all pregnancies), laws like Georgia’s and Alabama’s may well require a substantial addition to our police systems.

Mark Meadows explains why he had no choice but to work in Trump's White House
God as the one responsible for the path of his life.
said that he never wanted to be in Congress, but that God had other plans for him.
his tenure in former President Donald Trump's administration an act of divine intervention.
"The president of the United States was asking me to serve my country, and the answer was going to have to be yes.
As my wife would put it later, God had cornered me."
It was God, which is part of the doctrine of Divine Command Theory (https://iep.utm.edu/divine-c/), which puts God at the source of any and all actions in one's life.
“We didn’t have any choice,” Meadow's wife said. “God cornered us.” :lol no "free will"?
Meadows was caught lying about his education
he changed it to reflect that he had an associate's degree.
Meadows's congressional office was the source of an expensive ethics scandal after it was found that his chief of staff sexually harassed women in his office (https://www.thedailybeast.com/ex-mark-meadows-aide-says-sexual-harassment-in-congressmans-office-was-known-earlier-than-reported).
Meadows was fined $40,625, to match the "salary that was not commensurate with his work."

Feds bust dozens in 'modern-day slavery' operation, migrants held at gunpoint on Georgia farms
The over 100 victims were smuggled from Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras
and brought to the farms where
they were “imprisoned” under “inhumane” and “brutal” conditions, and
forced to work for little or no money.
At least two workers died,
and one was allegedly raped repeatedly.
dig onions with their bare hands and
were paid only 20 cents for each bucket harvested.
Two dozen accused members and associates of the “Patricio” crime ring face myriad felony charges.
The alleged scheme netted over $200 million,
laundering the funds through cash purchases of land, homes, vehicles, and businesses,
after buying cashier’s checks and then funneling the millions through a casino.

Republicans' trust in doctors is eroding.
It's a symptom of a larger disease.
Republicans are feeling increasingly shaky about the medical profession:
The number who say they are confident in their physician's medical advice has dropped 13 points since 2010.
Twenty-two percent report they trust their doctor less than they did just a year ago.
Roughly 40 percent (https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/poll-finding/kff-covid-19-vaccine-monitor-november-2021/) of self-identified Republicans remain unvaccinated against the coronavirus,
egged on by hypocritical (https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2021/10/fox-news-anti-vax-messaging-policies) conservative "thought leaders" — like Fox News' Tucker Carlson (https://www.thewrap.com/tucker-carlson-brian-stelter-cnn-fox-covid-vaccine-misinformation/) — who have promoted anti-vax hysteria (https://www.mediamatters.org/coronavirus-covid-19/tucker-carlson-goes-full-anti-vaccine-robert-f-kennedy-jr).
Gallup reported in July that Republican confidence in science itself has declined (https://news.gallup.com/poll/352397/democratic-republican-confidence-science-diverges.aspx) from 72 percent in the mid-1970s to 45 percent this year,
withering (https://theconversation.com/many-conservatives-have-a-difficult-relationship-with-science-we-wanted-to-find-out-why-165499) under decades-long conservative assaults on questions like climate change (https://newrepublic.com/article/147729/war-science-over-republicans-won) and the teaching of evolution (https://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/05/us/politics/05darwin.html).
Doctor mistrust might be part of the same phenomenon.

Keep the pandemic and inflation going to hurt the Dems, human life be damned
As deaths mount in Republican counties, party leaders find advantage in letting them continue
Republican governors have singled out government pandemic experts as named enemies.
The party has banded together to challenge safety programs with declarations that obliging Americans to wear cloth masks in public, during a worldwide health crisis, is an affront to their "freedoms."
Fox News and other conservative outlets have been relentless in turning a pandemic into yet another culture war, and
safety measures as something akin to flag-burning.
The "new" Republican Party had turned itself into a misinformation and disinformation dispensary before the virus ever emerged,
The moment the then-Republican White House proved unable to mount a response equal to the severity of the task that faced them,
the party's infrastructure was mobilized to instead argue that inaction was the proper—even patriotic—course of action, and
that all the safety measures the nation's experts had prepared to combat a biological crisis were not just unnecessary,
but a conspiracy meant exclusively to annoy you into submission.
it's not that conservative-minded Americans are willingly attempting to kill themselves off.
There's an entire political infrastructure dedicated to killing them.
The party is devoted to stoking all possible culture wars,
denying all possible points of national agreement, and
portraying each prior societal consensus as, now, evidence of "communist" thought.
Republicanism, now fully merged with Trumpism, finds political advantage in
egging Americans to reject whatever a non-Trumpist government is telling them.

Four horsemen of the dumbocalypse hold outrageously ignorant press conference on Jan. 6 insurrection (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2021/12/7/2068064/-Marjorie-Taylor-Greene-says-Jan-6-rioters-being-persecuted-because-of-the-color-of-their-skin)
promoting every conspiracy theory under the sun and attacking anybody who dares call into question the actions of the people we all saw on television, on our computers, and on our mobile devices attacking the Capitol building.
these elected officials have made it their brand to lie in almost every setting as they use their positions of power to do virtually nothing to promote a better, more prosperous American citizenry.
Donald Trump, and that bizarre balance has made him king of these sociopaths.
Marjorie Taylor Greene says January 6 defendants are getting pumped full of "critical race theory training" in jail
“They were isolated in a separate wing of the jail,
where they are abused,
where they are ridiculed,
where they are mocked because of their political beliefs and because of January 6, and because of the color of their skin.”
"We are going to take power after this next election. When we do, it's not going to be the days of Paul Ryan, and Trey Gowdy, and no real oversight, and no real subpoenas. It's going to be the days of Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Dr. Gosar, and myself."
Gaetz told him “that if Republicans win the House in 2022, he will move to install Trump as House Speaker.” (https://twitter.com/alexnazaryan/status/1468290308987363329)
Gohmert continued to press the new Big Lie about J6 today, but took it a step further saying phantom FBI agents should be arrested for insurrection: “Agents for the Fed Govt that were there stirring things up trying to get people to engage in violence.”
Greene answered that with a tremendous series of lies, including the statement that
she and Gohmert wanted to give the Capitol Police medals of honor.
Sadly, Texas’ Gohmert, Georgia’s Greene, Florida’s Gaetz, and Arizona’s Gosar were four of the 21 Republicans who voted against the House bill
that would award Capitol Police officers present during the Jan. 6 insurrection with Congressional medals of honor.

Mark Meadows possessed 'insane' blueprint for military seizing ballots after Trump's 2020 defeat
there was a blueprint for members of the National Guard and U.S. Marshals to take control of the U.S. election system following former President Donald Trump's defeat.
Meadows had provided the committee (https://www.rawstory.com/mark-meadows-documents-jan6-committee/) with an email containing a 38-page PowerPoint slideshow titled
"Election Fraud, Foreign Interference & Options for 6 JAN."
National Guard in each state would be federalized to count only "legitimate" paper ballots.
Meanwhile, U.S. Marshals would be tasked with providing a "protective perimeter around the locations."
Other recommendations include declaring a national security emergency.
All electronic votes would be declared invalid under the plan and
NASA astronaut Sid Gutierrez was slated to lead the task force.

McConnell: No legislative agenda for 2022 midterms
Mitch McConnell has told colleagues and donors Senate Republicans won't release a legislative agenda before next year's midterms, according to people who've attended private meetings with the minority leader.
Why it matters: Every midterm cycle, there are Republican donors and operatives who argue the party should release a positive, pro-active governing outline around which candidates can rally. McConnell adamantly rejects this idea, preferring to skewer Democrats for their perceived failures.

Repugs
When in power, cut taxes for the oligarchy (see them doing it right after getting power 2001 and 2017)
... behind closed doors: implement Bannon's "destruction of the administrative state" (to enrich their bribers while sickening, killing Americans)
When out of power, obstruct every attempt of the "illegit opposition" Dems to govern
Financed by Capitalist oligarchy, the Repugs are within a few years of total fascism, say Jan 2025, not by doing anything illegal. Repugs are realized that their Bad Faith "coup d'etat" is unstoppable.
The Dems are guilty in feckless silence. Biden and the Dems will not expose the blatant, in-your-face Repug takeover strategy towards fascism.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt threatened legal action if they were to continue.
At least six health departments issued statements Thursday night saying they would

It's not very difficult to see where Dems stand in policy like healthcare, immigration, etc. You might not like where they stand, but it's not difficult to see it.
The agenda was to do no legislation, only to try to stymie the WH. What you're talking about is commonplace politics for "both sides". I see where the dems claim to stand. That's the problem with the dems, they aren't cohesive enough to do anything about their convictions. Enough of them are career politicians who would rather salve the beltway relationships than make any real changes. They had the WH and the majority in both the house and senate. What did they do? Then the constituents have the gall to claim "if we only had 4 more years we could blah blah on gun control, or abortion, or Gay rights, or immigration, or minimum wage, or the environment". Still, nothing. WH23 showed it was likely worse.
How's the gun control thing doing? How about federal minimum wage hike? What do they have to show? I voted for Biden because Trump was too much of a showman, not really suited for leadership, too self centered and borderline psychotic. I have to admit though that the dems haven't provided anything but a relief from seeing Trump.
BTW, why did you vote for Obama over McCain?
Certainly not because Obama was more conservative, did you have a beef with McCain?
I never thought McCain would be a good leader on a world stage. I didn't trust him to be honest, thought he built his maverick reputation for selfish reasons. However I was more concerned about Sarah Palin. Anyone who would pick her as a running mate wasn't right in the head, and I am pretty sure John didn't have a lot to do with it. I thought Obama seemed like a good person IRL. I thought other leaders might feel that way as well. John would have been a international disaster, probably would have bombed Hanoi.

The legislative agenda is there though. That they can't pass it because of Manchinema is a different issue altogether. You know where they stand on healthcare, like expanding Obamacare, because they actually put pen to paper and it's part of laws that might or might not pass.
The last time the GOP had anything to do with healthcare, they wanted to only repeal Obamacare and still didn't know what to do next, because they don't have any plan or policy position. "Obamacare bad" is a fine criticism, but it's not healthcare policy.
Same thing with the Green New Deal, which BTW, was introduced in 2019, while they held the House and despite that there was no chance of it passing. But that's not the point. You know where that party generally stands on the environment as well.
The only thing clear as far as the GOP platform is the bare minimum necessary to pander to the religious base, like abortion or anything related to the 2nd amendment (mostly to trigger dem libs). They also used to hold the fiscal responsibility and smaller government hat, but after the last few GOP administrations, it's entirely pretend now.

It's very difficult to tell what the GOP even claims to be for these days. It didn't used to be like that.
As to the powerless bit, it simply boils down to politics being messy. Sometimes you can make it work, sometimes you don't.
Obamacare, tax cuts, medicare part D, COVID relief... all things that happened in different administrations, and none of which were easy. On the other hand, military funding apparently is more important than defaulting on the debt these days.

My point is about the product, not the precursor. What's the product? Well wishing?
The repealing thing you keep mentioning, is that as big as minimum wage, abortion, immigration, tax reform, gun control, environment, diversity, etc... ? Because those are the things the dems profess to believe and yet obviously many of them don't believe it enough to actually support it. I see the left here bitch about the ineptitude of the dems all the time. They might not like what the right is doing, but they like the ability to do it.
Excusing incompetence away as "messy politics" is too convenient with no accountability. In 4 years, 2 of those being impeached, Trump was able to possibly change the course of this country through supreme court nominations. No one is standing around carrying protest signs over the green new deal. The dems can't get out of their own way to get anything meaningful done. 12 years of Obama and the affordable HCA was all he really did and if you've talked to people who are familiar with it, it's not the bee's knees. It will be replaced by something but it's so interwoven into the fabric of healthcare that repealing it right out would create chaos and Trump had "muh legacy" on his mind, and knew a lot of his voters relied on free or lower cost healthcare, and chose instead to go after lower hanging fruit like building a fence.
I never said you played the Hitler card.

The bitching doesn't come from the party at large putting these proposals in place, but from a small minority wielding major power in order to get them through the finish line.
There's plenty to criticize Democrats about, but relative clarity on where they stand in almost all of those issues isn't one of them.
Trump didn't do squat about the SCOTUS. Nominations can only be approved by the Senate, and the guy that made that happen was Mitch by unilaterally removing the filibuster for SCOTUS nominations.
The only signature law Trump had was the Tax cuts for the rich, which is hilarious considering he ran on a largely liberal and progressive campaign, which really goes to show the lack of ideas coming from the right these days.
The same thing you're barking about Dems right now is what happened with the GOP in the first two years of Trump's presidency. He had a very flimsy majority and nothing got done either. So, yeah, it's messy.
And sorry, I'm not a fan of Obamacare nor Obama, but saying that's the only thing that got done is patently wrong. He inherited a absolutely disastrous economy, tanked by the subprime mess, and handed out a solid economy. Sniped Bin Laden. Made the US energy independent. Deported more immigrants than his successor. Protected Dreamers. His administration argued Obergefell v. Hodges and prevailed. You don't win back to back if you suck, tbh... ask Trump.

Muslim Lawmaker Comes Under Fire in House Debate on ‘Islamophobia’
A conservative Republican accused Ilhan Omar, the sponsor of a House bill to combat anti-Muslim bias, of terrorist sympathies.
Representative Scott Perry, the incoming leader of the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus, :lol FreeDumb Kochus
assailed the measure, which would create a new special envoy position in the State Department to combat “Islamophobia and Islamophobic incitement.”
But his harshest words were aimed at Ms. Omar, one of two Muslim women in the House (https://www.nytimes.com/topic/organization/us-house-of-representatives) and a co-author of the measure.
“American taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to pay terrorist organizations, organizations that the maker of this bill is affiliated with,
like the one that’s an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terror finance case in the United States of America’s history,” Mr. Perry said.
The attack was a convoluted reference to a case more than a decade ago against the Holy Land Foundation,
an Islamic charity that in 2008 was convicted of funding Islamic militant groups.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a human rights group, was one of nearly 250 organizations and individuals named as co-conspirators.
A decade later, the council, which is modeled on the Anti-Defamation League, honored Ms. Omar, who gave a speech to its California chapter.

The bitching doesn't come from the party at large putting these proposals in place, but from a small minority wielding major power in order to get them through the finish line.
There's plenty to criticize Democrats about, but relative clarity on where they stand in almost all of those issues isn't one of them.

I'm just providing an assessment. I've voted for dems more often than for the right, but I know that these ideals that the dems espouse are mostly political talking points. They will never have any effective gun control because they don't understand guns or how or why to control them, and at the heart of it those in charge don't really want to, it's just lip service for their voter base. They won't do anything for the environment but they will put so many regulations on US businesses that foreign companies will sell more of their goods cheaper in the US than any US company can, due to their cost of operation. On so many of the talking points there are fundamental issues why they cannot move forward, but they will keep pretending they are going to (next term).
If the dems had any effectiveness the right should not have a snowball's chance in hell of ever seeing public office again, but the left is mostly platitudes and optics.

But "not getting it done" is not exclusive to a particular party. That has happened to both parties, for as long as there has been a Congress where you need to negotiate, which is pretty much since we had this form of government.
How I feel about it is immaterial to the discussion. We're discussing what the parties spend their time trying to legislate, that's exactly what a legislative agenda is.
These are bills. These are not policies or laws. "If dems had the votes". Precisely the point. Even with a majority they don't support their own agendas. The BBB is going to be funneled to the wealthy. WH will bitch about it here and no one will give a shit.
These are bills hoping to become law. This is how you write laws in this country. They also codify policies. This is a country of laws, how the sausage is made. If this would be a monarchy, then King Brandon would do as he pleases, but it isn't. So you have to work within the system.
Again, not having every single one on board doesn't mean that's not the overall party position. The lack of a sizeable majority is indeed a problem, and certainly not a flaw limited to Democrats.
It's very likely that the BBB will fill up some wealthy pockets as well, and it's certainly something to bitch about. But, at least, I think it'll also go fund some meaningful areas that need the funding.
Where they purport to stand. If they really stood there why have so many congressional and presidential terms pass without any of this getting done? The few bad apples?
They have passed some of that. Obamacare certainly was passed. And that came after failures like the Clinton healthcare plan. So because something is defeated doesn't mean that's it's dead.
Democrats campaigned heavily on healthcare as far back as the early 90s, and eventually did get it done, even if it wasn't on the first try.
Similarly, Clinton did pass the Assault Weapons ban, and it was law until it sunset.
So Mitch did what no democrat was ever able to do.
They all find ways to give money to the wealthy.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how well your team played. It matters if they won. If winning means getting your agendas passed, and you didn't, then you didn't win.

As far as effectiveness or even shooting themselves in the foot, I don't disagree. But, again, that's not what we're talking about.

How you feel about it does matter, if you vote. If you've ever managed a group of people, you likely looked for results, not just agendas. You probably didn't give everyone a stellar review because they had an agenda, if their results were less than stellar. You cannot blame all the shortcomings on the other party, when people in your own party are in-fighting and thwarting the "agenda". As much as I despise party line politics, it's effective to meet agendas.
These are bills hoping to become law. This is how you write laws in this country. They also codify policies. This is a country of laws, how the sausage is made. If this would be a monarchy, then King Brandon would do as he pleases, but it isn't. So you have to work within the system.
But they don't fail to become law because of the other party, when you have a majority in both the house and senate. Someone on your team is pissing in the water. "We tried" keeps being the sounding call of the democrats. "There were just too many of them".. when people within the democratic party are thwarting progress.
Again, not having every single one on board doesn't mean that's not the overall party position. The lack of a sizeable majority is indeed a problem, and certainly not a flaw limited to Democrats.
That's a bit of a strawman. You don't need everybody on board. Failing to pass legislation introduced by your party because your own people vote "present" doesn't equate to losing because not every single person was on board. It means there was enough people not onboard, and often that's known well in advance. It seems much of the process is a dog and pony show for voters. Both sides do it, but the dems seem particularly adept at it, much to the chagrin of many voters (even here when posters criticize the left for being inept).
It's very likely that the BBB will fill up some wealthy pockets as well, and it's certainly something to bitch about. But, at least, I think it'll also go fund some meaningful areas that need the funding.
Same with all of these things. It seems like just another turn at fleecing the public to funnel wealth to the few. This has been happening for decades, maybe longer. There are things that need funded like roads and bridges, airports and such, but so much of it will instead go to shady, hard to follow mazes of money distributions.
Assault weapons were never banned. Only the manufacture for sale to the public of firearms after the date of the bill was banned. This is why many dem voters are so easily duped.
From Wiki
The 10-year ban was passed by the US Congress on September 13, 1994, following a close 52–48 vote in the US Senate, and was signed into law by US President Bill Clinton on the same day. The ban applied only to weapons manufactured after the date of the ban's enactment. It expired on September 13, 2004, in accordance with its sunset provision. Several constitutional challenges were filed against provisions of the ban, but all were rejected by the courts. There were multiple attempts to renew the ban, but none succeeded.
Studies have shown the ban had little effect on overall criminal activity, firearm homicides, and the lethality of gun crimes. There is tentative evidence that the frequency of mass shootings may have slightly decreased while the ban was in effect.[1]
Placebo legislation isn't really addressing the agenda, which was to ban assault style weapons, since they were never banned. No one who owned one, no store who sold them, no gunshow.. ever had to stop selling them. They just couldn't buy new ones for a period of time.
That's all cool, but nothing to do with what we're talking about. And Mitch did what you would expect a snake like Mitch to do.
Sometimes you need an excessive asshole to deal with a group of assholes.
GWB won re-election via the "war on terror", which is the other sure fire way presidents get re-elected. You could even argue his dad didn't win re-election despite being a good President, due to withdrawing from the Middle East (which, IMO, was the right thing to do).

Arkansas Republican refused (https://www.businessinsider.com/tom-cotton-confirm-us-attorney-nominees-dick-durbin-interrupted-2021-12) to confirm some of President Joe Biden's nominees for U.S. Attorney until Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) apologized for interrupting him in a committee hearing nine months before,
"Tom Cotton held up qualified U.S. Attorneys nominations for eight months and on the explicit argument that
he was mad at Dick Durbin for interrupting him :lol in a hearing and not apologizing -- for eight months, he said this out loud.
"He said,
'I'm not going to allow these U.S. Attorney nominees to go forward until the gentleman from Illinois apologizes to me for interrupting me in a hearing eight months ago,"
"They're trying to own the libs, that's all. This is all performative politics."
