Once the GOP has been dismantled, and Trump really has already done this, what will happen to the Democratic party? The thought that once the GOP is toothless the Democrats will not have a target for their ire might be worth consideration. Will they turn on each other as the extremely progressive faction continues to speak out against the Democratic establishment?

Will they turn on each other as the extremely progressive faction continues to speak out against the Democratic establishment? The Democratic Party will be hard pressed to deliver the goodies, they may crack under the pressure to govern. Dunno about considering the GOP a done deal quite yet.
I can't recall a single January 6th in my life when I had the slightest awareness that TODAY IS THE DAY THAT CONGRESS COUNTS THE ELECTORAL VOTES.
Shit is fucked up and bullshit

I don’t see how the GOP will be dismantled as long as they have gerrymandering, the EC and Wyoming getting as many senators as California. Not to mention the courts haven’t been this conservative since the Lochner Era. There’s going to be a GOP civil war over the next several months but we were only 50,000 votes across GA/AZ/WI from the conversation being about how the Democratic Party is a train wreck.

It may be awhile before they find a POTUS candidate to embody white grievance the way Trump did, but the GOP can and probably will take back at least one of the House and Senate in two years IMO.

Yeah I think if the Democrats don’t fuck up and manage to pick up seats in the ‘22 midterms, that’s when you can talk about the GOP being dead. Right now the GOP has a very significant minority in both houses and a SCOTUS that ready willing and able to get creative in gutting any popular legislation the Democrats actually pass.

The even bigger idiots of Trumpism cored out an even larger scoop of moderates and what was left of the sane people. Now they're publicly having a Civil War and Trump is saying he's going to primary what is left of the party in 2022 with candidates he endorses. Poisonous.

Even if they throw Trump in prison, it may not be enough to stem the rot within the GOP. Not only did 121 House reps and 7 Senators disgrace themselves by obstructing certification, take a gander at some of the numbers from snap polling after yesterday's events: https://today.yougov.com/topics/politics/articles-reports/2021/01/06/US-capitol-trump-poll
45% of Republicans support the actions of the mob at the Capitol
52% of Republicans think Biden is to blame for the mob's actions
85% of Republicans don't think Trump should be removed from office after his actions yesterday
The Trumpholes aren't a fringe wing of the GOP tent - they are the biggest group in there and will keep voting for some version of Trump in the GOP primaries if they stay engaged in politics. Hawley and Cruz are monumental assholes, but this is the bet they are making.

I think the protests are ok but breaking in was stupid as fuck and the shooting was likely justified. I don't agree with the reason for the protests, I don't agree with the "stole the election" bullshit. I can't wait until that fat fucker is out of the news. But, I don't have to be onboard with the double standard. I understand there's a difference between protesting because you have been historically oppressed and suffer a legal double standard by birth and protesting because you wanted to win the election and you bought into the conspiracy shit. Sure, but violence is violence, burning and looting was called mostly peaceful based on the political reasons it was happening, but it was still burning and looting and largely by people who weren't even minorities. Condemn violence against innocent people, don't turn a blind eye to it as long as it helps your party's cause. It's unfortunate, but maybe the country needs a wake up call to get more people involved in the electoral process and the legislative process.
Plus it's really good troll material when you see all the fake ass hand wringing over it while the rest of the nation still smolders from a year of burning and looting.

The Rasmussen poll, one of the most accurate polls of the 2020 election, finds President Trump’s approval is actually rising after Wednesday‘s protests.
As Democrats move to impeachment and some establishment Republicans call for the 25th Amendment to remove Trump, the poll finds 48% approve of the President’s job performance.
A source close to the polling firm that the rolling survey saw Trump’s approval soar to 51% on Thursday night.

The Republican Party was supposed to be the anti-Democrat Party, but over time, it has lost its way. The Democrat Party is the party of the trail of tears, slavery, jim crowe laws, the KKK, welfare, abortion, high incarceration of minorities, voter fraud, high taxes, big government, minimum wage, labor unions, minimal defense, segregation, open borders, giving citizen rights to non-citizens etc. The Republican Party was to be the party that fought all of that, and did. It freed the slaves, made them citizens, gave them the right to vote, believed in a strong military, lower taxes, fought for women's suffrage, gay rights, civil rights, state's rights, rule by the letter of The Constitution, pro life, closed borders, a sound legal immigration system, etc. However, power and corruption have changed things over the last few decades, along with technology and more public exposure. To be honest the biggest problem with either party is term limits. We, as constituents, need to find a way to force Congress into voting for term limits. It is less likely to have massive corruption if you only have a small window of time. Also, you are more apt to get your job done, so you can leave your mark on the country. Without term limits, these people are lazy, fat, compromised, and act as if they are Gods to those who vote them in. Instead of speaking through us, they are speaking for us, and even speaking down to us. They act omnipotent.

Did you know the origins of the KKK were not racist and anti black, but instead pro black individuals who fought for the freedoms and safety of the newly freed slaves. They still wore masks to protect their identity and their families from hate crimes. Over time, individuals who we associate with the KKK started dressing the same and started committing haenus atrocities towards blacks in order to discredit the do gooders. It worked, and soon the organization was transformed into what we know of it today.
I just recently learned this via black southern historians. It definitely shocked me.

Sure, if by "over time" you mean 70 years ago when voters the South started switching to the Republican Party as a response to civil rights orders by Democrat presidents.
The party history lessons are tiresome. Republicans are the party that attracts racists now, as Democrats were 100 years ago. We're not voting for GOP and Dem candidates 100 years ago, so if you're still a Republican because it's the "Party of Lincoln" you're a fucking idiot.

Nixon famously courted the southern white Democrats in the 1960s and 70s along with John Ashcroft who is the brainchild. it should be noted that Ashcroft was also the one with the idea for the war on drugs stating on tape that it would disproportionately impact minority communities which would help them politically.
the George Wallace's and Strom thurmond's went over to the Republican party as a result of this and what is known as the southern migration. they felt the need to do so because the voting's rights act that were passed in the 1960s allowed minority caucuses to take over local state and federal positions in the Democratic party pushing them out. They were also incense to because it was Lyndon Johnson who spearheaded all of these laws that were disenfranchising them.
Really though the GOP gave up any moral claim on race issues in 1875 when they traded power for the end of reconstruction. That was when all of the new voting suppression laws and segregation was put in and shortly after a bunch of Confederate statues that we are now still arguing about.
It sucks how lack of critical thinking particularly and determining source veracity is lacking and taking advantage of by politicals.

Right, and the “roaring 20s” is a stupid label imo. It was very similar to the 2000s imo, you had religious zealots running the country, rampant growth in wealth inequality, and a giant asset bubble people confused with prosperity. History books depict it as a great time for the country when it wasn’t at all.

I love how high school history books would paint Upton Sinclair's The Jungle as just a book about how disgusting meat packing plants were, when that was only a couple of chapters and the book was really a call to Communist revolution. I remember one chapter was about banks making home loans to people who couldn't afford them, collecting a few months worth of payments, then evicting the first time they missed a payment and then selling them to the next sucker as brand new. Or another chapter on how they put formaldehyde in milk. Another on crooked plant owners making their workers go vote for the owner's preferred candidate. The book was on the moral rot of capitalist America, but can't tell that in history books that always want to paint this nation as having a steady march towards greatness.

Lee-Jackson Day in Lexington, Virginia
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Er3NRHsXcAAPhgR?format=jpg&name=large
For the first time in more than 100 years, the Commonwealth of Virginia did not observe Lee-Jackson Day.
Despite it no longer being a state holiday, the Virginia Flaggers and the Stonewall Brigade of the Sons of Confederate Veterans still gathered in Lexington to celebrate the day.
“Well for us, it’s a family or blood matter. We’re all descendants of Confederate veterans,” said Brandon Dorsey of the Stonewall Brigade of the Sons of Confederate Veterans
The city has seen some major changes in terms of recognizing its own history in the last year.
Virginia Military Institute removed its Stonewall Jackson statue (https://www.wsls.com/news/local/2020/12/07/virginia-military-institute-starts-relocation-process-of-stonewall-jackson-statue/) and the cemetery formerly named for the Confederate general is now named Oak Grove (https://www.wsls.com/news/local/2020/09/04/lexingtons-stonewall-jackson-cemetery-officially-renamed-oak-grove-cemetery/).
Mayor Frank Friedman said the city has had a year full of reflection and hard conversations.
“There is no finish line, getting along being respectful and working together, is a perpetual motion, and that’s something that never changes,” said Lexington Mayor Frank Friedman.
But Lee-Jackson Day organizers like Brandon Dorsey believe that change is not always good thing.

Let us remind you that these people actually believed that,
other than Donald Trump, basically every political official was out there eating babies for Satan, and
that they were being led in this by actor Tom Hanks and
that the United States was in the business of child sex trafficking (again, for Satan).
Many of them attempted an actual coup.
That's not really "patriotism."

Though Ohio is a pretty tough get. State is very red these days.
Just let Sherrod pick the candidate. Don’t even have a primary :lol
Not sure who’d be more vulnerable - a nutcase like Gym Jordan running, or a moderate who beats Gym Jordan in a contentious primary but pisses off MAGAtards in the process.

State Republican parties are lurching even farther rightward after failure of violent coup
State Republican parties, in particular, are continuing to aggressively embrace the hoaxes, conspiracy theories and cult notions justifying the attempted violent insurrection to reinstall Donald Trump as an illegitimate leader.
They are also retaliating against those Republicans who refused to abet those efforts.
Long a extremist hub, the Arizona Republican Party has been moving the swiftest to dole out consequences to anti-fascist Republicans.
Lurching farther rightward still, the Texas Republican Party encouraged its allies to travel to neo-Nazi friendly site Gab while identifying itself with a pro-"Q" conspiracy trope.
Donald Trump may be gone, left to stew for the moment on his loss and whether he truly wants to form a new far-right party or simply blow it off and go golfing, but
the party that chose him as its incompetent, dishonest, blustering, and criminal figurehead has, if anything,
only solidified its embrace of fascist techniques and principles.
They are redoubling their efforts to
radicalize their base,
battle truths with hoaxes and
to further impede the ability of non-white, non-conservative Americans to cast votes at all (https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/24/republicans-voter-id-laws-461707).

Most of the Republican county leaders in U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse's congressional district on Monday called for the lawmaker to resign for being one of 10 GOP members of the House to vote for the impeachment of former President Donald Trump. Newhouse said he will not resign.
Six county GOP chairs from the 4th Congressional District, which covers the central portion of Washington state, issued a letter Monday calling for Newhouse to resign.

Did somebody say Ohio?
Ohio lawmaker who questioned hygiene of 'colored people' to lead state health committee
state Sen. Steve Huffman (R), a physician, said he understood that
"African Americans have a higher incidence of chronic conditions and
that makes them more susceptible to death from COVID.
But why does it not make them more susceptible just to get COVID?"
He questioned whether "the colored population" washed their hands, wore masks, or practiced social distancing
"as well as other groups. ... Could that be the explanation for why the higher incidence?"
Huffman was appointed by Senate President Matt Huffman (R), his cousin, to lead the Ohio Senate Health Committee, which reviews legislation about health care and human services.

I didn’t think the GOP would crater but I’m not sure anymore. The way they’re doing nothing to censor MTG or Boebert while they’re going hard after Cheney, Romney and Sasse makes it seem like the crazies really have taken over that party.
Seems like it’s a race as to whether this country or the GOP craters first, because if someone like Hawley or Cruz actually gets elected president in 4 or 8 years were completely fucked, but I think Texas will go blue by 2028 and send the GOP into a death spiral if it can’t turn America into a right wing authoritarian regime first.

I don’t think there’s any blackmail, there’s just nothing in it for someone like Portman anymore. For the first time in his career, he’s facing a Dem majority leader who’s actually gotten tired of being pushed around and is ready to stand up to GOP senators, and He’s gonna face a primary from a crazy person where his family will have to endure attacks from Qtards about how he’s a child molester who eats baby fetuses. Much less stress just going to be a lobbyist who sleep walks to a high 7 figure salary.
I think Grassley and Shelby might not be too far behind in announcing retirement, with Roy Blunt more of a dark horse (it’s strange that he hasn’t confirmed he’s running again yet). Truthfully I think Cocaine Mitch might be done if he can’t take the senate back in 2022.

GOP Heading Toward Extinction In Georgia As Voters Flee The Trump-Marjorie Taylor Greene Party
New data from Georgia shows that voters in the state are flocking away from Republicans as figures like Donald Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tighten their grip (https://www.politicususa.com/2021/01/30/marjorie-taylor-greene-trump.html?fbclid=IwAR1F5fteHz64ekB31Y-77LXtfyDi3CL2hGjfRodviAqA880obnflQe6LxSM) on the party.
Republicans will head into 2022 “in a dire political position” as Democrats in Georgia are viewed much more favorably than their GOP counterparts.
the new poll “offered a glimpse at political challenges ahead as state Republicans grapple with former President Donald Trump’s enduring grip on the party’s base as statewide elections, including a fresh U.S. Senate race, loom in 2022.”
Gov. Brian Kemp’s approval rating stands at a dismal 42 percent, with 51 percent disapproving of his job performance.
Trump is even less popular in the state, with 57 percent viewing him unfavorably.

It’s going to be challenged already because of other circumstances. Clinton and Obama were both young and arrogant presidents who wanted no part of working with the DNC to prep for midterm elections. Biden is a party institutionalist who’s already done more to partner with the DNC than they did. The DNC also enters this midterm cycle with $75 million of cash on hand vs. previous midterm cycles when it was suffocating in debt. They’ll actually be able to do shit like register voters, canvass, etc.
More than anything else though, it’s now the GOP relying more heavily on low propensity voters than the Dems are. Educated suburban whites were the group that used to power then GOP in midterm elections, now that group is more split.

Trump's full statement is below:
The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political "leaders" like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm. McConnell’s dedication to business as usual, status quo policies, together with his lack of political insight, wisdom, skill, and personality, has rapidly driven him from Majority Leader to Minority Leader, and it will only get worse. The Democrats and Chuck Schumer play McConnell like a fiddle—they’ve never had it so good—and they want to keep it that way! We know our America First agenda is a winner, not McConnell’s Beltway First agenda or Biden’s America Last.
In 2020, I received the most votes of any sitting President in history, almost 75,000,000. Every incumbent House Republican won for the first time in decades, and we flipped 15 seats, almost costing Nancy Pelosi her job. Republicans won majorities in at least 59 of the 98 partisan legislative chambers, and the Democrats failed to flip a single legislative chamber from red to blue. And in "Mitch’s Senate," over the last two election cycles, I single-handedly saved at least 12 Senate seats, more than eight in the 2020 cycle alone—and then came the Georgia disaster, where we should have won both U.S. Senate seats, but McConnell matched the Democrat offer of $2,000 stimulus checks with $600. How does that work? It became the Democrats’ principal advertisement, and a big winner for them it was. McConnell then put himself, one of the most unpopular politicians in the United States, into the advertisements. Many Republicans in Georgia voted Democrat, or just didn’t vote, because of their anguish at their inept Governor, Brian Kemp, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and the Republican Party, for not doing its job on Election Integrity during the 2020 Presidential race.
It was a complete election disaster in Georgia, and certain other swing states. McConnell did nothing, and will never do what needs to be done in order to secure a fair and just electoral system into the future. He doesn’t have what it takes, never did, and never will.
My only regret is that McConnell "begged" for my strong support and endorsement before the great people of Kentucky in the 2020 election, and I gave it to him. He went from one point down to 20 points up, and won. How quickly he forgets. Without my endorsement, McConnell would have lost, and lost badly. Now, his numbers are lower than ever before, he is destroying the Republican side of the Senate, and in so doing, seriously hurting our Country.
Likewise, McConnell has no credibility on China because of his family’s substantial Chinese business holdings. He does nothing on this tremendous economic and military threat.
Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again. He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country. Where necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First. We want brilliant, strong, thoughtful, and compassionate leadership.
Prior to the pandemic, we produced the greatest economy and jobs numbers in the history of our Country, and likewise, our economic recovery after Covid was the best in the world. We cut taxes and regulations, rebuilt our military, took care of our Vets, became energy independent, built the wall and stopped the massive inflow of illegals into our Country, and so much more. And now, illegals are pouring in, pipelines are being stopped, taxes will be going up, and we will no longer be energy independent.
This is a big moment for our country, and we cannot let it pass by using third rate "leaders" to dictate our future!
