Don't think it's a matter of targeting anyone in particular. If they did, the trade would have happened during the draft when they see their guy available at 23. Most likely they didn't need a 2nd round pick since they already have 2 firsts and found a deal to get something for it. Not too shrewd IMO, especially in a draft with so many unknowns.

It's called blood in the water. It's hard to get good value on a trade when people think you're desperate. And stop, anyone, before you start arguing that they really aren't desperate. I'm not interested in starting that pissing contest. If people think you may be desperate, they're going to punish you in negotiations. There's no reason for any team to give up very much value trading for DDR or LMA, if they believe the Spurs will give up value to spin them and start fresh.

With the way this offseason is so compressed, I really wish all the FA's had to officially opt in or out before the draft. And i almost think this schedule would make you think of draft targets as either NBA-ready (now), or G-League candidates for a year. Carter is a lottery pick in his own right, and now has two years of acclimating to the NBA under his belt. He's a perfect fit for the Warriors-- he'll play D, not need any plays run for him, and feast on rebounding three point misses. Karl Anthony Towns and Toppin would be the worst defensive big man combo in the NBA.

I disagree, he clearly has a higher ceiling - but even if you disagree with his ceiling, you can't argue that his physical profile (at draft day) was absolutely eye-popping, and he no doubt would've leapfrogged prospects like Mr Stiff Hipps Toppin, or Unknown Israeli League Avdija. With Wiseman missing the college season, and Edwards' and LaMelo's huge red flags, there's an argument to be made of Lonnie possibly going #1.... Of course, he had that meniscus surgery that made him drop to us (thank God), but that injury doesn't happen in COVID-2020. Or it might, this is just a hypothetical after all.
