But if there is truth to this... he is supposedly close to beal, then perhaps he wants to make his own super team, since he knows he financially can't go to the Lakers or Clippers.

Sixers are fucking delusional on Simmons value at this point. Dude just proved he is a broken "star" play, and they are expecting either a proven star player or a haul in return.
Good luck with your non-shooting point guard next season, Philly.

A few things I do/do not want to see:
1) No DDR, Rudy or Mills being brought back. At any cost.
2) A S&T for DDR to hopefully get a decent asset (extra pick). This is assuming SA wouldn’t be using whatever cap space that takes anyways. Of course if there is a trade or guy you love in FA do that first. But I am assuming that is not the case as they could sign Collins (for example) to a max deal and still take on a Kuzma for DeRozan in a S&T
3) If you can’t land someone like Collins, or land a true impact (fits with the timeline age) player, then just sign one year deals. Spurs aren’t contending barring something crazy and if you can’t get a “real” FA dont just waste money. Keep flexible for a better FA class or trades
4) Make a trade: Too many guards and Spurs need to show some direction here.
5) Avoid going all in for someone like Ben Simmons if the cost remains anything close to reports. Part of the benefit of having tons of cap space and all your picks is you can pounce on a great opportunity. Ben Simmons is worth a look, but unless it’s a player truly worth giving the farm up for, dont do it just to do it.
Oh wow... I wonder what exciting surprise Brian Wrong have stored for us?? :depressed
Now that we found our missing piece in the Lottery (!!), re-sign all the vets to max deals…
My hope is that the DeRozen to WAS rumor has legs. A Deni + Kuz swap would be a great outcome for Spurs.
The pieces of the puzzle are still there after last night:
- WAS and DDR rumored mutual interest
- Kuz interest from Spurs, now with WAS
- Spurs interest in Deni last year
- Beal wants to stay in WAS, so pressure to get him star level help
- despite unloading Brick, WAS would still need to do a S&T for DDR
- Kuz/Deni/non-guaranteed deals get you close to the 20M DDR seeks
Spurs still have good chunk of change to round out roster.

Well, theoretically they have to give up some asset to entice us to take on Kuz or Bertans. So, it stands to reason that it'd be Deni, Rui, or a future 1st. I think it would be Deni and they replace him with Kispert.

1. We 100% bring back Patty I think, regardless of how I feel. I just hope we don't bring DDR/Gay back. I actually think we can live with bringing just Patty back.
2. At this point I think DDR just walks or God-forbid resigns.
3. Completely agree with this, but I'm worried we'll sign some scrub on the wing for a few years.
4. I probably stay put for now, it doesn't hurt to wait and see who really develops.
5. 100% agreed.

Warriors took Moody at 14 (but seems like they were thrilled he slid), Wizards took Kispert at 15, and Clippers took Keon Johnson at 21.

It's possible they have a S&T on the horizon and/or a trade of White of DJ but I don't think any of that impacted their draft decisions... they took what they saw as BPA... I think they were others that were better but, this was their board....so here we are..

Trade Poeltl and LWIV for Myles Turner
Sign John Collins
PG Murray, Tre Jones,

I think Hawks taking Jalen Johnson is telling that Hawks could lose Collins, and gives us a little hope to acquire him. Now it’s up to PATFO to determine if he’s a max player, AND Collins wanting to play for the Spurs. I think he would like a PG who could serve him the ball though. He gets a lot from ally-ops, and that’s not DJ’s game, even not as much but likely Derrick or even better Trae.

Turner would be perfect, but they're not looking for a big. They got Sabonis and Bitadze as his backup.
White is the first guy I'd trade. He's a good player, but just can't stay healthy. I don't think PATFO will even consider trading DJ.

I disagree. While he's not even an average defender that can be covered up some playing next to Poeltl. He can spread the floor from deep and put the ball on the ground for straight line drives vs close outs. Do I like him as much as Collins? Absolutely not, but if Collins can't be gotten we can work with Lauri (and maybe even find some untapped potential). As long as the money and length isn't awful then it's not a bad risk/reward situation.

Perhaps but if you whiff on Collins and no trades materialize then I can see the logic (age and skill set) in doing that. But if it starts to get bigger money than that? Sa needs to walk away and save their money for a better fa/trade environment imo

I rather keep Derrick. It’s not a popular here, but Derrick is the better facilitator, and can get Collins (and Poeltl) going early. DJ gives the Hawks an elite defensive combo guard to compliment Trae who can tear the offense.
Also I don’t think DJ is align with Pop, for better or worse. He’s too out there, with his “meh” reaction on the pick, seen going against Pop in the huddle. I just have a feeling he’s one foot out of the door.

What I see in Atlanta is the further away they've gone from being a Collins-centric team, the better they've become. They've had more success giving other players more usage rate and having Collins be a 14/7 type of guy in the playoffs than they ever did with making him the #1 option as a 21/10 player. I think looking ahead Atlanta's much scarier with De'Andre Hunter at PF, Clint Capela at C, and Okongwu off the bench. Collins also off the bench would be incredible, but is that worthy of a max contract?

Portis is worth a two-year contract, if he can be restrained from killing anybody in practice. Lol. But seriously, Portis did well under pressure in the playoffs. That exact point isn’t for the Spurs to worry about, but Portis has some good ability. And he’s no guard. If Rudy has been worth $15 M/year - arguable I know - Portis would be worth 10 M/year on a 2 year.

I’m really interested to see what the spurs do in free agency….
There’s been reports that they’re interested in John Collins, Lauri Markkanen, and Kelly Oubre… are those reports true or just agents spreading rumors
What comes of the spurs Free agents, I hate to say it but I’m pretty sure we keep Patty Mills, Rudy is probably gone, and it’s in the spurs and demars best interest to find a sign & trade that benefits both parties imo
as it stands the spurs will have 10 guaranteed roster spots taken with Primo on the team now, maybe 11 if they sign Joe Wieskamp to a deal

I'd be down with SA trading for Siakam, Simmons or Harris provided they don't let themselves be screwed. Sabonis might even be on the move. Getting him would probably make the lack of a four with size even more glaring, but the talent is there. Even if the Spurs somehow sign Collins, they need to find away to make some trades.

Oubre is actually terrible on both sides of the ball, a net negative each way. It was a mistake for GSW to sign him and any good team should stay away.
If Oubres team is saying they look towards the developmental potential of the spurs, it means Oubre has been convinced he has work to do which is a good sign to me. The guy is definitely inconsistent but his flashes are above average.
I think a team like the spurs would slow things down for him and help him out quite a bit. If he wanted to salvage his career, a system team would be his best bet to get back on track.
I would look forward to seeing him develop if he came at the right price. The worse he could do is help the spurs lottery pick for next year so.. :lol
why not gamble that you can turn him into a player? He has all the tools.

So what are the downsides to Laurie marks game? I haven't seen much of him. He moves great for a big man and can shoot off the dribble pretty smooth.
I'm guessing his defense is bad? Has to be for a big man that can move and shoot like that.

Lauri could come cheap
And lol @ 20 mil per year for Lonzo
I don't think that has any bearing on how expensive Markkanen will be. Just means Chicago will let him go, which we already knew.
They're making some big swings in the last year or so. Ball's a given commodity at this point and pairing him with Zach seems like a pretty good idea. Won't make them contendors, by any means, but shoud be a playoff team.

i remember quite clearly from some here saying if the Spurs offered a low amount, the Bulls would simply match. But yes, it doesn’t mean he’ll actually be signed to a low offer, just that it opens up the possibility of it happening without the Bulls preventing it from happening.

Oubre is straight up trash. There's reason no one has ever wanted to keep him. Inconsistent, doesn't take the game seriously, just whack all around
Lauri Markannen is a little better but not by much. Terrible defense, frequently injured or struck with odd maladies. There's a reason why when Chicago got serious about making the playoffs, they benched Markannen.
Oubre would be a straight up failure and trash fire.
But if Markannen was renounced, then I could see a deal like the Knicks gave players a couple of years ago being useful, 1+1 deals to both protect the teams future cap flexibility but also make trading them easier.

You're absolutely correct about Oubre. There's a reason why the Suns said sayonara, why the Warriors couldn't wait to let him go. He's a dumpster fire. He's desperate to get onto some team so is giving the Spurs sweet words, but they need to pass.
Markkanen... there's suggestion he wasn't properly developed by Chicago and often their fans say so. I can see some value for him, but not at a high price tag and not for a long term. In general I don't see a high reward, the defense is bad, and I don't think he'll be much more than he is now. A short term deal like you mention I feel would be okay.

That’s good we in rebuild mode we need to hit on the lottery next draft and I mean land 1-3 draft pick so pick up a couple of old ass vets sign them for one year contacts and let the kids play and grow. It’s a win win we get to see the youth movement and we get to see who fits and who needs to be traded or not signed and hopefully we get lucky again and get a 1 draft pick.

I suspect the Oubre Jr. rumors are from his agent. He has delusions of grandeur in terms of stardom, so they more than likely look at this barren roster and think he could come in and put up big counting stats for a few years before cashing in and moving on to greener pastures.
He's not only not Spurs-y, but he doesn't check a single box. Not not strong enough to play the four, doesn't provide shooting, ISO scoring or play making either.
Right now, out of realistic options, if the Wizards sign and trade for Dinwiddie and utilize Kuzma to do so, offer Walker IV to the Nets (would help alleviate their massive luxury tax bill) for him. If that occurs, offer Mills 2/$MLE equivalent of 20ishM-25M.
Failing that, offer Porter Jr. 2/$MLE equivalent of 20ishM-25M, then do the same with Burks. Offer Dieng 2/smaller MLE or room exception equivalent of 10ishM.
Leave the rest of the space open to possibly utilize to facilitate trade(s) and extract draft capital throughout the season.

It's not. They have Johnson, Vassell, White and Walker IV under contract as rotational options at the 3/2, plus Wieskamp as a depth option and possibly Jeffries too. And they'll no doubt be some veteran guard/wing shooter/secondary creator too, whether it's Mills, Burks, Fournier, etc.

Oubre can do a few things. Slash, ok defense, can shoot 3 (not good just can), reasonably athletic.
But he seem to underwhelm wherever he go. That's why people describe him as good and trash at the same time. He looks talented. But seems not not translate to win as much. That's why as one of the move is ok. But as the move is a bit disappointing.

After reaching the conference finals I’d be more shocked if Atlanta didn’t match a max Collins offer than us drafting Primo. Sure they don’t want to pay the max but they got nothing to replace him with and you don’t win championships letting a core player walk after making a deep run.
Collins isn’t realistic. Sure, make the offer but they better have a super strong plan B. Because it isn’t going to happen.

No doubt the starting unit needs a proper 4 but im not relying on Rudy Gay or even Mills to “fix” something that significant. I’d just rather have Mills than Gay as my older vet teaching the young guys.
More than likely Mills has just found a better opportunity for $$$ and/or a chance to ring. It feels like with the headlines and verbiage I’m seeing/reading the Spurs or Mills himself is putting it out there so casual Spurs fans aren’t as shocked when it happens.

I'm guessing Milutinov.
Kings desperately need center help, and the Spurs have his rights. He had shoulder surgery in February, no idea about his current status. Kings will have the room with the MLE to carve out enough to sign him.
He might be a fallback plan if they can't secure Holmes, which they probably can't.
They have 2 seconds in 2022, and an extra 2nd in 2025 to part with.

Apron is about 139.
Just Curry, Green, Thompson, Wiseman, JTA, Poole, Paschall, Moody, Looney gets them to about 130, and that's without Wiggins or Kuminga or any trade for DeRozan. And sign-and-trade that when completed takes a team over the apron can't happen.

It's hard to say what the proce would be but, theoretically if they wanted both white and DJ I'd want Kuminga and Moody at a minimum and either Wiseman or future 1st if I were taking wiggins. If they wanted just one of DJ or White (so they could reduce their tax more) I'd want kuminga and Wiseman.

Maybe I’ll be wrong but I think Lauri will still get between 15-18 mill per year lol
At 10-12 chicago can match easily and trade him, i think the same he will get something in the 15-20 range.

The hope is that they sign Ball and renounce Lauri...even then I think we are looking at a minimum of $15M/yr on him..

Why do people want this guy we in a rebuild and this guy is made out of glass and could not take being benched? He does nothing for us short or long term I would be OK signing him to a 1 year deal but nothing more then that as we are not close to being a good team - Would rather keep Rudy for one more year and have Luka start and at least see what we have with him

I really hope we get Lauri Markkanen, I’ve been watching clips of him and I forgot how bad some of the bulls teams were that he’s been with lol I think he still has room to improve
I wouldn’t want to give any assets for him outside S&T DDR. I see no reason to accommodate higher money for Lauri plus give an asset like White or Lonnie to make it happen. That would be horrible.
I know whote or DJ isn't worth that in a vacuum bit, the tax savings of taking wiggins justify it.
Agree. With Collins seemingly coming off the board and seeing rest of the options out there, Im increasingly of mind that working something out with GSW should be near the top of the list of “plays” that should be made.
The other way to look at is:
1. Is picking up Lauri + another FA like Oubre really the better play? Sure we eat Wiggins deal for 2 more years, but do either of those guys make us that much better over the same period? Doubt it.
2. Is overpaying Zach Collins + getting a few other “distressed assets” here and there better?
3. Is the cost of getting Simmons really worth it given his limitation?
The only other play that appeals to me more is something around a DDR S&T (come on Wizards!), but there is too much smoke are DDR taking Lakers MLE to ignore. Then there is the Knicks, with all that space.

The Warriors value Wiggins more than most and wouldn't salary dump him with young assets for a poor fit like DeRozan.
They'll wait out a better win now move, even if it takes up until the trade deadline to consummate.

Simmons price is very low. Total costs: 5 Primos. only
