Tesla removed from Vancouver Auto Show

Tesla has been removed from the Vancouver Auto Show on the eve of the event, organizers announced Tuesday.

Elon Musk’s company will no longer be an exhibitor and all references to Tesla have been removed from the show’s website, a move that comes as the billionaire faces backlash for his alliance with President Donald Trump amid a trade war between Canada and the U.S.

“The Vancouver International Auto Show has removed Tesla as a participant in this week’s event, after the automaker was provided multiple opportunities to voluntarily withdraw,” said Eric Nicholl, the show’s executive director, in a statement.

“The Vancouver Auto Show’s primary concern is the safety of attendees, exhibitors, and staff. This decision will ensure all attendees can be solely focused on enjoying the many positive elements of the event.”

The annual convention starts Wednesday and runs through the weekend.

Musk has been a cheerleader for Trump’s threats to annex Canada, writing on his social media platform X that Canada is “not a real country.”

Montreal Tesla dealership vandalized amid backlash against Elon Musk

Activists sprayed paint on the exterior of a Tesla dealership in Montreal on Wednesday, as cases of vandalism climb in the United States and around the world against Elon Musk's electric car company.

Montreal police arrested a young man and woman at the dealership on Décarie Boulevard in the city's Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough.

The climate group Last Generation Canada claimed responsibility. In a statement posted online, the group called on Canada to "stand up" to Musk, who they said is "destroying democracies and spreading climate denial."

Tesla (TSLA.O) (https://www.reuters.com/markets/companies/TSLA.O) is recalling 46,096 Cybertruck vehicles in the U.S.- nearly all Cybertrucks made up to February - to fix an exterior panel that could detach while driving, adding to a series of call-backs for the pickup truck since last year.
While Tesla does not break out deliveries of its Cybertrucks, the recalled vehicles would represent a vast majority of the pickups on the road, based on analyst estimates.

$1.4bn is a lot to fall through the cracks, even for Tesla

...
Compare Tesla’s capital expenditure in the last six months of 2024 to its valuation of the assets that money was spent on, and $1.4bn appears to have gone astray.
The sum is big enough to matter even at Tesla, and comes at a moment when attention is returning to the group’s underlying numbers, now that its fully diluted stock market valuation has crashed from $1.7tn to below $800bn.
A closer look at Tesla’s cash flow statement may also prompt investors to ask other questions, such as why a business with a $37bn cash pile raised $6bn of new debt last year?

...

Yet Tesla also raised a net $3.9bn in new finance, on top of the $2.6bn raised in 2023.
A combination of excess cash flow and ongoing capital raising is another red flag that can signal accounting misstatements. Jacek Welc, professor of corporate finance at the SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences, has examined 17 such examples including Germany’s Wirecard, the US-listed but Chinese-based Longtop Financial Technologies, and the FTSE-listed hospital chain NMC Health.
He says in those cases “allegedly healthy (but in reality inflated) operating cash flows tend to be matched by significantly positive financing cash flows (and a seeming “cash cow” appears to require large amounts of new debt and/or new equity financing).”

Tesla recalls most Cybertrucks due to trim detaching from vehicle

Tesla said Thursday it is recalling nearly all Cybertrucks in the United States to fix an exterior panel that could detach while driving, the latest in a series of call-backs for the pickup truck.

The recall covers just over 46,000 vehicles built from November 2023 through Feb. 27 of this year, Tesla said in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall could prove to be a setback for Tesla, whose stock has lost about half its value this year as the EV automaker grapples with rising competition, an aging lineup, and backlash against CEO Elon Musk's controversial role overseeing cuts to federal spending in the Trump White House.

The recall addresses risks a stainless-steel exterior trim panel can detach from the vehicle, making it a road hazard boosting the risk of a crash, Tesla said. Tesla's service will replace the rail panel assembly with a new one that meets durability testing requirements, the automaker said.

As many as 80 Tesla vehicles damaged at dealership in Hamilton

Hamilton police say they are investigating a “series of mischiefs” after dozens of Tesla vehicles were damaged at a local dealership this week.

According to police, officers were called to a Tesla dealership, located at 999 Upper Wentworth Street, on Wednesday for a report of damage to some of the store’s inventory.

Police arrived to discover that “upwards of 80” Tesla vehicles parked outside had sustained damage, including deep scratches and punctured tires.

“Police are currently reviewing CCTV camera footage and are asking the public for their assistance in solving this crime,” investigators said in a news release issued Thursday.

El0n sells pie in the sky to Tesla employees and begs them to hang onto their stock

Elon Musk held an "all hands" with Tesla employees and live-streamed it on X tonight. “What’s the most exciting future that you could possibly imagine?" he asked. “A future of abundance for all…. The future we’re headed for is one where you could literally just have anything you want...

...If there’s a good or service you want, you can just have it. Everyone in the world will be able to have anything they want." And he's talking about this as "sustainable abundance" enabled by AI and robotics.

He said Tesla would have regulatory approval "globally" to operate autonomous vehicles in 5 years. "The software update just enables that capability - overnight you have an increase in usefulness overnight..."

"Some people like Cathie Wood at ARK invest DO see the future," Elon Musk said. "So what I'm saying is hang onto your stock." (Applause) "It's mind blowing."https://bsky.app/profile/lorak.bsky.social/post/3lkud4tr6tc2f

Musk’s X suspends opposition accounts in Turkey amid civil unrest

Elon Musk's social media platform X has suspended several accounts belonging to opposition figures in Turkey amid widespread civil unrest in the country.

Musk, a self-proclaimed protector of free speech, said he acquired X to restore free speech on the platform.

The suspensions come after extensive demonstrations were sparked by the arrest earlier this week of Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan's main political rival, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. İmamoğlu was arrested just hours before he was nominated to be the presidential candidate for the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP).

The opposition protests have spread despite the government banning gatherings for four days.

Tesla about to get lapped by BYD

The Super E-Platform offers a range of up to 400 kilometres (249 miles) from just five minutes of charging thanks to 1,000 kilowatt charge speeds. Most Tesla Supercharger stations have an output of 250kW or less.

“The new charging performance blows the competition out the water,” Ryan Fisher, head of charging infrastructure research at Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), told The Independent. “It’s three to four times the charging power Tesla's can consume, and the vehicles will be similarly priced in China as the Model Y.”

BYD said mass production of the new technology would “completely solve users’ range anxiety when travelling”, with plans to introduce the “flash-charge” battery in its Han L and Tang L models in China as early as next month.

Tesla Is Allegedly Withholding Wages Of German Employees On Sick Leave

Amid a streak of absenteeism at its Grünheide, Brandenburg, factory in Germany, Tesla has reportedly withheld pay from its employees on medical leave. As reported by German newspaper Handelsblatt, the automaker sent mass letters to employees who have called in sick, which expressed doubts as to the veracity of their claims of illness or injury. Not only that, but Tesla also asked said employees to divulge their diagnoses and release their doctors from their "duty of confidentiality." The Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory produces the company's battery cells, as well as the Tesla Model Y.

Fire at Tesla dealership near Rome destroys 17 cars

Rome CNN — At least 17 Tesla cars were destroyed after a fire broke out at a dealership on the outskirts of Rome on Monday morning, according to Italian fire officials. No one was at the dealership when the fire broke out and no injuries have been reported.

Rome’s fire service said it was investigating “all avenues” while looking into how the fire started, but it did not rule out arson. Local police said officers interviewed the dealership owners and are looking at surveillance footage.

The fire comes after a string of reports across Italy in recent weeks of Tesla vehicles being vandalized and defaced, with anti-Elon Musk and anti-Donald Trump sentiments written with spray paint.

Another car dealership burned down in northern Rome a week ago, destroying 30 cars, including used Teslas. That fire was initially blamed on an electrical fault, but an investigation is underway.

Also in Rome, several Teslas in the Garbatella neighborhood, where Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni grew up, were defaced, according to police and social media posts. Meloni and Musk are self-described close friends, but the Italian leader has not commented on the vandalism. Tesla dealerships in Milan have also been targeted by environmental groups in recent weeks.

Starlink rival Eutelsat rolls out wifi on Air Canada planes

Eutelsat, Europe's rival to Elon Musk's Starlink constellation of internet-providing satellites, said on Wednesday it has started providing onboard wifi for passenger and business planes.

Its was now delivering broadband connectivity to Air Canada aircraft and some corporate jet outfits, it said in a statement.

It added that it had a "backlog of over 1,000 aircraft scheduled for installation".

The European satellite operator is vying to be seen as an alternative to Starlink, as companies in Europe and elsewhere look askance at Musk's political manoeuvrings as advisor to US President Donald Trump.

EU set to fine Elon Musk's X up to $1 billion for breaking disinformation law

The European Union is poised to fine Elon Musk's social media platform X a record $1 billion after it broke landmark laws combatting illicit content and disinformation, sources told The New York Times.

The move will likely ratchet up tensions with the U.S. as it targets one of President Donald Trump's closest advisers. The penalties will reportedly include a fine and demands for product changes.

The penalties will reportedly be announced this summer and will be the first under the new EU law intended to force social media companies to police their platforms.

Elon’s Edsel: Tesla Cybertruck Is The Auto Industry’s Biggest Flop In Decades

...
Judged solely on sales, Musk’s Cybertruck is actually doing a lot worse than Edsel, a name that’s become synonymous with a disastrous product misfire. Ford hoped to sell 200,000 Edsels a year when it hit the market in 1958, but managed just 63,000. Sales plunged in 1959 and the brand was dumped in 1960. Musk predicted that Cybertruck might see 250,000 annual sales. Tesla sold just under 40,000 in 2024, its first full year. There’s no sign that volume is rising this year, with sales trending lower in January and February, according to Cox Automotive.

And Tesla’s overall sales are plummeting this year, with deliveries tumbling 13% in the first quarter to 337,000 units, well below consensus expectations of 408,000. The company did not break out Cybertruck sales, which is lumped in with the Model S and Model X, its priciest segment. But it’s clear Cybertruck sales were hurt this quarter by the need to make recall-related fixes, Ben Kallo, an equity analyst for Baird, said in a research note. Tesla didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The quarterly slowdown underscores the fact that when it comes to the Cybertruck, results are nowhere near the billionaire entrepreneur’s carnival barker claims.

“Demand is off the charts,” he crowed during a results call in November 2023, just before the first units started shipping to customers. “We have over 1 million people who have reserved the car.”

In anticipation of high sales, Tesla even modified its Austin Gigafactory so it could produce up to 250,000 Cybertrucks a year, capacity investments that aren’t likely to be recouped.

Tesla Semi suffers more delays and ‘dramatic’ price increase
...
The goal was to start production in 2025, start customer deliveries, and ramp up to 50,000 trucks yearly.

Now, Ryder, a large transportation company and early customer-partner in Tesla’s semi truck program, is talking about further delays. The company also refers to a significant price increase.

California’s Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) awarded Ryder funding for a project to deploy Tesla Semi trucks and Megachargers at two of its facilities in the state.

Ryder had previously asked for extensions amid the delays in the Tesla Semi program.

In a new letter sent to MSRC last week and obtained by Electrek, Ryder asked the agency for another 28-month delay. The letter references delays in “Tesla product design, vehicle production” and it mentions “dramatic changes to the Tesla product economics”:

BYD's global EV takeover is far from over as overseas sales double to start 2025

...

BYD sold 377,420 new energy vehicles (NEVs) last month alone. Like most Chinese automakers, BYD reports NEV sales, including plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and fully electric vehicles (EVs).

Of the 371,419 passenger vehicles BYD sold in March, 166,109 were EVs, and the other 205,310 were PHEVs. Combined, BYD’s sales were up 23% compared to last year.

BYD’s Dynasty and Ocean series accounted for 350,615, while its luxury Denza brand sold 12,620, Fang Cheng Bao had 8,051, and its ultra-luxury Yangwang brand sold another 133 models.

Through the first three months of 2025, BYD sold over one million (1,000,804) NEVs. That’s up 60% from the 626,263 sold in Q1 2024. Fully electric models accounted for 416,388 while PHEV sales reached 569,710, an increase of 39% and 76% from last year, respectively.

X’s UK profits collapsed the year after Elon Musk’s takeover

Twitter UK Ltd also narrowly averted being struck off last month for failing to file the accounts on time, according to other recent filings to Companies House. It only filed full accounts on Monday for 2023, the year in which it was rebranded as X after Musk’s takeover.

“The business continues to take corrective measures to build brand safety tools, invest in platform safety and content moderation and then educate advertisers about these initiatives,” the company said.

Its overall revenue totalled £69.1m, down from £205.3m in 2022, a decrease of 66.3% year-on-year. The profit for 2023 dropped from £5.6m the previous year to £1.2m. Pre-tax profits were 74% lower at £2.25 million. This was a “significant decrease in the performance of the company”, it said.

Tesla Cybertruck is in crisis: new discounts and throttling down production

The Tesla Cybertruck is in crisis. The automaker is still sitting on a ton of old inventory, which it is now heavily discounting, and it is throttling down production to try to avoid building up the inventory again.

When launching the production version of the Cybertruck in late 2023, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed that the vehicle program would reach 250,000 units a year in 2025:

“I think we’ll end up with roughly a quarter million Cybertrucks a year, but I don’t think we’re going to reach that output rate next year. I think we’ll probably reach it sometime in 2025.”

We are now in 2025, and Tesla is expected to currently be selling the Cybertruck at a rate of about 25,000 units a year – a tenth of what Musk predicted.

...

Despite Tesla’s efforts, the automaker has only reduced its Cybertruck inventory by about 100 units since the beginning of the month.

Tesla is now further throttling down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas, according to a new report from Business Insider.

According to two Tesla workers speaking with BI, the automaker has reduced its Cybertruck production teams and now operates at a fraction of its original capacity. It also moved some Cybertruck production workers to Model Y production at the plant.

Exclusive: Tesla to delay US launch of affordable EV, a lower-cost Model Y, sources say

SAN FRANCISCO/NEW DELHI/SEOUL April 18 (Reuters) - Tesla's long-awaited plans for an affordable car include a U.S-made, stripped-down version of its best-selling electric SUV, the Model Y, but the production launch has been delayed, three sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

Tesla (TSLA.O) has promised affordable vehicles beginning in the first half of the year, providing a potential boost to flagging sales. Global production of the lower-cost Model Y, internally codenamed E41, is expected to begin in the United States, the sources said. That would occur at least a few months later than outlined in Tesla's public plan, they added, offering a range of revised targets from the third quarter to early next year.

Total revenue slid 9% from $21.3 billion a year earlier. Automotive revenue dropped 20% to $14 billion from $17.4 billion in the same period last year.

Tesla said one reason for the decline was the need to update lines at its four vehicle factories to start making a refreshed version of its popular Model Y SUV. The company also pointed to lower average selling prices and sales incentives as a drag on revenue and profit.

Net income plummeted 71% to $409 million, or 12 cents a share, from $1.39 billion or 41 cents a year ago.

Tesla is in worse shape than you think

...

The bottom line problem at Tesla is its vanishing bottom line. A deeper look at its first quarter report shows it’s now losing money on what should be its ostensible reason for existence – selling cars.

It was only able to post a $409 million profit in the quarter thanks to the sale of $595 million worth of regulatory credits to other automakers.

But if the Trump administration gets its way, the company can kiss those regulatory credits keeping it in the black goodbye, too.

It also faces possible rising costs due to the tariffs that the Trump administration is weighing on imported auto parts, which even Musk has said could be significant, albeit less so than at some competitor.

Sales are falling partly due to rising competition from other automakers’ EV offerings, especially in China. Tesla’s sales are falling in both Europe and China even as overall EV sales increase in those key markets. It’s about to lose its long-held title of the world’s largest seller of electric vehicles to Chinese automaker BYD.

X saw the biggest decline in France with a loss of more than 2.7 million monthly active users, dropping from 20.1 million users to 17.4 million users in between this transparency report and the last. X also lost nearly 2 million users in Poland, close to 1.5 million users in Germany, and more than 1 million users in Spain. In Denmark, the automaker has delivered only 180 vehicles in April. That’s down a staggering 67% compared to April 2024 and 59% from January 2025, when Tesla did not yet have the new Model Y.

In Portugal, Tesla delivered only 239 vehicles in April based on registration data – down 47% year-over-year and down 39% from the first month of Q1 2025.

More data from European countries is expected to be released in the coming days, with the full dataset to be made available later this month.

In Q1 2025, Tesla’s 37% decline in sales in Europe coincided with a 24% surge in battery electric car sales.

Tesla's refresh to best-selling Model Y SUV starts on rocky road

...
Supplies are not tight. The refreshed version is available immediately in many parts of the world, with some units already available in Tesla's inventory. That is a far cry from the long wait times typically seen for the previous Model Y, which was the highest-selling car in the world last year.

In fact, overall Tesla sales in Europe continued to plunge in April across key countries, data showed this month. Sales in China dropped over 8% last month, data from the China Passenger Car Association showed on Sunday.

"Short delivery wait times, low-interest loan offers, and weak April registration numbers in China and Europe all point to soft demand for the refreshed Model Y in key markets," researcher Troy Teslike, who follows Tesla, told Reuters.

A slow kickoff for the Model Y - which Tesla has blamed on retooling needed at its factories for the revamp - piles fresh pressure on the company to launch its long-promised cheaper models.
After Tesla reported its first drop in annual deliveries last year, Musk pulled back his forecast of a 30% increase in vehicle sales this year and said simply that Tesla would return to growth. Last month, Tesla said it would revisit that forecast in three months in light of "shifting global trade policy." After a 13% drop in first-quarter vehicle sales, analysts expect Tesla deliveries to fall again this year.

Exclusive: Musk took leased cars back so Tesla could use them as "robotaxis." Instead, Tesla sold them

May 15 (REUTERS) - Tesla last November ended an unusual policy that prohibited U.S. leasing customers from buying their cars at lease-end.

The policy started in 2019, when Tesla announced that customers could lease its mass-market Model 3 sedans but would have to return them, at the end of the lease, for use in Tesla's planned "robotaxi" network.

"You don't have the option of buying," Chief Executive Elon Musk said at an investor gathering in California in April 2019. "We want them back."

"Next year, for sure," he added, "we'll have over 1 million robotaxis on the road."

None of that would prove true. Despite repeated promises, the robotaxis never came. Tesla instead found an unusually lucrative way to make money by flipping many of the off-lease cars to new buyers, according to four people familiar with Tesla's retail operations.

BYD sells more electric vehicles in Europe than Tesla for first time

BYD has sold more electric vehicles in Europe than Tesla for the first time, marking a breakthrough for the Chinese group’s efforts to expand into overseas markets.

BYD registered 7,231 fully electric cars in Europe last month compared with 7,165 registrations for Tesla, according to Jato Dynamics, the automotive data intelligence firm. Tesla’s monthly volume was down 49 per cent year-on-year, while BYD reported a 169 per cent jump.

The Chinese group’s registrations including plug-in hybrids soared 359 per cent.

The Chinese group’s aggressive expansion into Europe has coincided with a slump in sales for Tesla due to its ageing product portfolio and a backlash to Musk’s intervention into regional politics.

Tesla starts accepting Cybertruck trade-ins, confirms insane depreciation

...
When Tesla started production and deliveries in late 2023, the vehicle was significantly more expensive and had less performance than initially announced.

At one point, Tesla boasted having over 1 million reservations for the electric pickup truck, but only about 40,000 people ended up converting their reservations into orders.

Now, Cybertruck inventory is sitting unsold for months and Tesla is having to offer heavy discounts to move them.

...

Tesla sold a brand-new 2024 Cybertruck AWD Foundation Series for $100,000. Now, with only 6,000 miles on the odometer, Tesla is offering $65,400 for it – 34.6% depreciation in just a year.

Pickup trucks generally lose about 20% of their value after a year and 34% after about 3-4 years.

It’s also wroth nothing that Tesla’s online “trade-in estimates” are often higher than the final offer as noted in the footnote o fhte screenshot above.

xAI to pay Telegram $300M to integrate Grok into the chat app

Telegram has struck a partnership with Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, to distribute the latter’s chatbot, Grok, via Telegram and integrate it into apps available on the chat app’s platform for one year.

xAI will pay $300 million in cash and equity to the chat app as part of the deal, Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov said on Tuesday.

Durov said Telegram will also earn 50% of the revenue from xAI subscriptions purchased through the app.

Earlier this year, xAI made the Grok chatbot available to Telegram’s premium users. It seems Grok might now be made available to all users.

A video posted by Durov on X suggested that Grok can be pinned on top of chats within the app, and users can also ask questions to Grok from the search bar. Notably, Meta has also integrated Meta AI into the search bar on Instagram and WhatsApp.

GM takes over as the ‘#1 EV seller’ in Canada

...
GM’s electric vehicle sales in Canada surged by 252% in the first three months of 2025, with new Chevy and Cadillac models driving growth.

The Chevy Equinox EV led the way with 1,892 units sold, followed by the Silverado EV with 894 units. Cadillac’s new entry-level OPTIQ had a strong showing, with 615 models sold, nearly matching the 720 units sold of its first EV, the LYRIQ.

Even the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV saw more demand, with sales up 232% (186) and 88% (252), respectively.

Combined, the automaker sold a total of 5,750 EVs in Q1. According to GM, this was enough to top Tesla to become “the #1 EV seller in Canada.”

GM Canada recently posted on social media, saying, “We claimed the top spot as Canada’s #1 EV seller!” The news comes as registration data show that Tesla registered just 524 vehicles in Quebec in Q1, down 87% from the same period last year.

Tesla becomes desperate with Cybertruck, launches biggest discount yet

Following the unveiling of the Cybertruck in 2019, Tesla reported having accumulated over 1 million reservations for the highly anticipated electric pickup truck.

However, after launching the production version in 2023 at almost twice the price and with less range than previously announced, the vehicle program became a total flop.

Tesla had planned for a production capacity of 250,000 vehicles per year at Gigafactory Texas, and CEO Elon Musk said that he could see the automaker doubling to half a million trucks per year.

However, Tesla ended up having issues selling 40,000 Cybertrucks in its first year, and the delivery rate fell even further in 2025 with inventories piling up.

To address the demand issues, Tesla began throttling down production earlier this year and offering deeper discounts on its new vehicles.

Today, Tesla announced its biggest Cybertruck discount yet: 0% APR financing for those who order the truck with its $8,000 Full Self-Driving Package.

Tesla Misses Robotaxi Launch Date, Goes With Safety Drivers

Tesla’s much-anticipated June 22 “no one in the vehicle” Robotaxi launch in Austin is not ready. Instead, Tesla has announced to its invite-only passengers that it will operate a limited service with Tesla employees on board the vehicle to maintain safety. Tesla will use an approach that was used in 2019 by Russian robotaxi company Yandex, putting the safety driver in the passengers seat rather than the driver’s seat. (Yandex’s robotaxi was divested from Russian and now is called AVRide.)

Having an employee on board, commonly called a safety driver, is the approach that every robocar company has used for testing, including testing of passenger operations. Most companies spend many years (Waymo spent a decade) testing with safety drivers, and once they are ready to take passengers, there are typically some number of years testing in that mode, though the path to removing the safety driver depends primarily on evaluation of the safety case for the vehicle, and less on the presence of passengers.

Tesla has put on some other restrictions--rides will be limited to 6am to midnight (the opposite of Cruise’s first operations, which were only at night) and riders come from an invite-only list (as was also the case for Waymo, and Cruise and others in their early days.) Rides will be limited to a restricted service area (often mistakenly called a “geofence”) which avoids complex and difficult streets and intersections. Rides will be unavailable in inclement weather, which also can happen with other vehicles, though fairly rarely today. Tesla FSD is known to disable itself if rain obscures some of its cameras--only the front cameras have a rain wiper. The fleet will be small.

Tesla Pauses Texas Gigafactory Production of Model Y, Cybertruck Amidst Slowing Demand

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is one of the best QQQ stocks to buy according to hedge funds. On June 17, it was reported that Tesla is implementing another production halt at its Gigafactory in Texas, which will affect the Model Y and Cybertruck production lines. This shutdown is slated to begin on June 30 and extend through the week of the July Fourth holiday. It will mark the second such pause at the facility in 2 months and the 3rd in the past year.

The production halts come amid mounting pressure on Tesla due to slower demand and increasing inventory levels. Earlier in June this year, reports indicated that Tesla was renting overflow parking lots across the US to store unsold vehicles, which included Cybertrucks. Cybertruck production has already been scaled back in 2025, with sales tracking at about half of the previous year’s figures, despite the introduction of cheaper variants, eligibility for federal tax credits, and increased discounts.

Tesla Robotaxi Incidents Draw Scrutiny From US Safety Agency

...
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is aware of the incidents that were captured in videos posted on social media and is gathering additional information from the company, the agency said in a statement to Bloomberg. NHTSA officials regularly interact with automakers on safety matters, and it’s common for those discussions to stop short of a formal investigation.

“Following an assessment of those reports and other relevant information, NHTSA will take any necessary actions to protect road safety,” the agency said on Monday.

Tesla’s shares fell as much as 1.4% in postmarket trading after Bloomberg reported NHTSA’s discussions with the company. The stock was little changed at 5:33 p.m. in New York.

In one video taken by investor Rob Maurer, who used to host a Tesla podcast, a Model Y he’s riding in enters an Austin intersection in a left-turn-only lane. The Tesla hesitates to make the turn, swerves right and proceeds into an unoccupied lane meant for traffic moving in the opposite direction.

Tesla sales drop in Europe for fifth month in a row

NEW YORK -- Europeans still aren't buying Teslas with figures out Wednesday showing sales plunged for a fifth month in a row in May, a blow to investors who had hoped anger toward Elon Musk would have faded by now.

Tesla sales fell 28% last month in 30 European countries even as the overall market for electric vehicles expanded sharply, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. The poor showing comes after Tesla's billionaire CEO had promised a “major rebound” was coming last month, adding to a recent buying frenzy among investors.

They were selling on Wednesday, pushing the prices down more than 4% in early afternoon trading.

Musk had said Tesla was sure to get a boost once the company was done retooling its factories to produce a new version of its biggest seller, the Model Y. But that was finished months ago, and the new models are widely available. Investors are now hoping that a cheaper Tesla expected to be out later year will help reverse the sales decline.

Overall, battery electric vehicle sales rose 25% in Europe compared to a year earlier. The market for EVs was particularly strong in Germany, where Musk has angered potential buyers by publicly supporting the far-right, anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany party in elections. Overall EV sales there leapt 45%.

China’s Xiaomi undercuts Tesla with yet another cheaper car

BEIJING — Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi is taking aim straight at rival Tesla with a new electric SUV.

Xiaomi’s luxury YU7 SUV will start at 253,500 yuan ($35,322), CEO Lei Jun said Thursday, pointing out that the vehicle is 10,000 yuan cheaper than Tesla’s Model Y, which starts at 263,500 yuan in China.

Prior to the official price announcement, a Citi report had listed expectations that the YU7 SUV would be priced around 250,000 yuan to 320,000 yuan ($34,800 to $44,590), forecasting monthly sales of about 30,000 units. Once the pace picks up, Citi predicts annual sales of 300,000 to 360,000 units.

Xiaomi’s company’s SU7 sedan launched last year was also priced below Tesla’s Model 3.

Lei on Thursday claimed the YU7 beat Tesla’s Model Y on a range of metrics, but still came short on driver assist. The YU7 comes with driver-assist software, the most advanced version of which is powered by Nvidia’s Thor chip. Pre-sales start at 10 p.m. on Thursday, with deliveries expected within one to five weeks.

EU car market: more e-cars again in May, Tesla and combustion engines plummet

...
In May, battery electric cars had a market share of 15.4 percent in the EU, significantly more than in May 2024 with 12.1 percent. Last month, almost 142,800 battery-electric cars were newly registered in the EU, corresponding to an increase of 25 percent. This increase confirms the trend of the first five months, in which electric car registrations rose by more than 26 percent.

By contrast, the previously strong electric car brand Tesla recorded a decline of more than 40 percent. Only, 8729 of the brand's models were registered. Tesla attributes the slump to the model revision of its best-selling model, the Tesla Model Y (test), which has only just been launched on the market. However, market observers assume that the majority of the reluctance to buy can be attributed to the erratic actions of company boss Elon Musk alongside the US President.

Tesla's deliveries drop again as competition, Musk backlash hit demand

(Reuters) -Tesla (TSLA) posted another big drop in quarterly deliveries on Wednesday, putting it on course for its second straight annual sales decline as demand falters due to backlash over CEO Elon Musk's political stance and an aging vehicle lineup.

Still, shares of the electric automaker jumped 3% in early trading as the decline proved less severe than the bleakest analyst projections.

Tesla said it delivered 384,122 vehicles in the second quarter, down 13.5% from 443,956 units a year ago.

Analysts expected it to report deliveries of about 394,378 vehicles, according to an average of 23 estimates from Visible Alpha, though projections went to as low as 360,080 units based on estimates from 10 analysts over the past month.

General Motors' EV Sales Doubled As Tesla's Shrank

General Motors is on a tear. Its electric vehicle sales more than doubled in the second quarter, hitting 46,280 units.

The carmaker sold some 114,000 EVs in the U.S. last year, crossing the 100,000-unit mark for the first time. That momentum carried on in the first several months of 2025, on the back of new models like the Cadillac Escalade IQ and Optiq. In the first half of 2025, GM says it sold some 78,000 EVs, amounting to a 13% share of the electric market.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV, launched last year with a $34,995 starting price and over 300 miles of range, is the real hero of GM's lineup. In the first half of 2025, GM says it sold more than 27,000 of them. The company says it's on track to become one of the top three most popular electric cars in the U.S. so far this year. Indeed, it passed the Ford Mustang Mach-E in the first half to become the best-selling non-Tesla EV in America.

Meanwhile Tesla, by far the U.S. EV sales leader, is struggling. Cox Automotive estimates that its U.S. sales dropped by 20% in Q2 as it grapples with an aging lineup, no truly affordable model and the controversial politics of its CEO, Elon Musk. Tesla's slump is the primary driver of a 6% drop in sales across America's EV market in Q2, Cox says.

Panasonic delays full production at US battery plant as Tesla sales drop

OSAKA -- Tesla supplier Panasonic Holdings has backpedaled on its internal goal for electric vehicle battery production at a U.S. factory in the state of Kansas, Nikkei has learned.

While the Japanese electronics giant was initially aiming for full production of an annual 30 gigawatt-hours by the end of March 2027, it will postpone the target date.

Tesla, Panasonic's biggest customer for EV batteries, is struggling with dwindling sales, and U.S. President Donald Trump has been a skeptic on the issue of providing sizable funding to encourage widespread EV adoption.

With uncertainty surrounding its battery business, Panasonic has decided to change tack.

Panasonic invested about $4 billion to build the Kansas plant, which is its second battery plant in the U.S., after one in Nevada.

Tesla's global sales in the April-June quarter decreased 13% from a year earlier to 384,122 vehicles, according to its announcement on July 2. Political strife between CEO Elon Musk and Trump has raised alarms about the automaker's business outlook.

Musk’s X refuses to hand over data in ‘politically motivated’ French investigation

Elon Musk’s X on Monday denied allegations made by French authorities as part of a criminal investigation into alleged data tampering, adding that it would not submit to the prosecutor’s demand to hand over data.

X’s global government affairs account said the French investigation, which ramped up this month, is “politically-motivated” and designed to “restrict free speech.”

“French authorities have launched a politically-motivated criminal investigation into X over the alleged manipulation of its algorithm and alleged “fraudulent data extraction,” X said in a post on the social media platform. “X categorically denies these allegations.”

French prosecutors started an investigation in January over allegations that the company’s algorithm was being used for the purposes of foreign interference. The probe began after two complaints — one from a French member of parliament and another from a senior official at a public institution.

This month, the investigation was handed over to a key unit of France’s national police. Prosecutors said the investigation would focus on investigating offences of tampering with automated data systems as well as the fraudulent extraction of data from these systems.

The brand's registrations - a close proxy of sales - fell 86% year-on-year in July to 163 cars in Sweden, 52% to 336 cars in Denmark, 27% to 1,307 in France and 62% to 443 in the Netherlands, official industry data showed, marking a seventh straight monthly drop in all of those countries.

Tesla sales dropped by over a third in Europe in the first six months of the year.

Norway and Spain bucked the trend, with Tesla's registrations up 83% and 27% to 838 cars and 702 cars, respectively.

Spain recorded a 155% jump in total sales of electrified cars - either battery electric or plug-in hybrid. Tesla's Chinese competitor BYD (002594.SZ), opens new tab sold 2,158 cars in Spain in July, almost eight times more than in July 2024.

Jury orders Tesla to pay more than US$200 million in Autopilot crash case

MIAMI — A Miami jury decided that Elon Musk’s car company Tesla was partly responsible for a deadly crash in Florida involving its Autopilot driver assist technology and must pay the victims more than US$200 million in punitive damages.

The federal jury held that Tesla bore significant responsibility because its technology failed and that not all the blame can be put on a reckless driver, even one who admitted he was distracted by his cell phone before hitting a young couple out gazing at the stars. The decision comes as Musk seeks to convince Americans his cars are safe enough to drive on their own as he plans to roll out a driverless taxi service in several cities in the coming months.

...
The case also included startling charges by lawyers for the family of the deceased, 22-year-old, Naibel Benavides Leon, and for her injured boyfriend, Dillon Angulo. They claimed Tesla either hid or lost key evidence, including data and video recorded seconds before the accident.

Tesla has previously faced criticism that it is slow to cough up crucial data by relatives of other victims in Tesla crashes, accusations that the car company has denied. In this case, the plaintiffs showed Tesla had the evidence all along, despite its repeated denials, by hiring a forensic data expert who dug it up. Tesla said it made a mistake after being shown the evidence and honestly hadn’t thought it was there.

Exclusive-Tesla's brand loyalty collapsed after Musk backed Trump, data shows

LOS ANGELES, August 4 (Reuters) -Tesla for years had more repeat U.S. customers than any other major automotive brand but its loyalty has plunged since CEO Elon Musk endorsed President Donald Trump last summer, according to data from research firm S&P Global Mobility shared exclusively with Reuters.

The data, which has not been previously reported, shows Tesla’s customer loyalty peaked in June 2024, when 73% of Tesla-owning households in the market for a new car bought another Tesla, according to an S&P analysis of vehicle-registration data in all 50 states.

That industry-leading brand loyalty rate started to nosedive in July, that data showed, when Musk endorsed Trump following an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on the Republican nominee.

Tesla awards Musk $29 billion in shares with prior pay package in limbo

Tesla CEO Elon Musk was awarded an interim pay package of 96 million shares of the company over the weekend. The shares would be worth about $29 billion.

Tesla stock climbed about 2% Monday.

The company said in a filing Sunday that the pay package would vest in two years as long as Musk continued as CEO or in another key executive position.

The new award would be forfeited if the legal battle over his 2018 compensation ends with Musk being able to exercise the larger pay package, which was valued at $56 billion.

In January, Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick upheld a prior ruling in the case, Tornetta v. Musk, that the compensation plan was improperly granted. Tesla shareholders approved the pay package in June 2024.

The case is now before the Delaware Supreme Court.

Tesla is heading into multi-billion-dollar iceberg of its own making

Tesla’s ‘Full Self-Driving Supervised’ expansion is back firing as it exposes its shortcomings. Customers left without promised features are growing discontent and demanding to be compensated.

It’s turning into a multi-billion-dollar iceberg of Tesla’s own making.

In 2016, Tesla proudly announced that all its vehicles produced onward are equipped with “all the hardware for full self-driving,” which would be delivered through future software updates.

The automaker turned out to be significantly wrong about that.

At the time, it was producing its electric vehicles with a hardware suite known as HW2, which it had to upgrade to HW3 because it couldn’t support self-driving (FSD) capability.

HW3 was produced in vehicles from 2019 to 2023 and Tesla switched to HW4 in 2024.

At first, CEO Elon Musk claimed that FSD software updates on newer HW4 cars would lag roughly 6 months behind updates to HW3 cars to make sure to deliver the promised self-driving capability to those who have been waiting and paid for the promised capabiltiy a long time ago.

That strategy barely lasted a few months. Tesla quickly started releasing new FSD updates to HW4 cars first and it now hasn’t released a significant update to HW3 cars in close to a year.

Tesla only admitted in January 2025 that HW3 won’t be able to support unsupervised self-driving. Musk claimed that Tesla would retrofit the computers, but there has been no word about it for 10 months.

Tesla recalls almost 13,000 Model Ys and Model 3s over risk of sudden battery loss

If you recently bought a Model Y or Model 3, you might be impacted by the latest Tesla recall.

Tesla is recalling almost 13,000 Model Ys and Model 3s manufactured between March and August 2025. Tesla dealers were notified around October 15.

An estimated 1% of the vehicles experienced sudden power loss, according to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The culprit was a battery pack contactor that "may suddenly open due to poor coil termination connection," the highway safety regulator said.

"If the contactor opens when the vehicle is in drive, the driver loses the ability to apply torque to the vehicle using the accelerator pedal resulting in a loss of propulsion, which may increase the risk of a collision," the report read.

Drivers who have lost the ability to apply torque receive a visual warning telling them to pull over.

The Bestselling Tesla Model Y Just Scored the Worst Reliability Rating in a Decade

The 2025 TÜV Report has delivered an unwelcome verdict for Tesla, with the Model Y topping the unreliability list among two to three-year-old cars with a 17.3% serious defect rate. TÜV represents Germany’s rigorous vehicle inspection authority. It ensures all vehicles meet strict safety and environmental standards through mandatory biennial roadworthiness testing. These inspections are among the most stringent in the world, examining everything from brakes and suspension to emissions and lights.

The German-made Model Y’s defect rate marks the worst TÜV has seen for nearly new cars in a decade. It even outdoes the Model 3, which had previously held the dubious distinction of worst reliability for two years. The main trouble areas included suspension, braking systems, and lighting equipment. By comparison, the Mini Cooper SE recorded a 3.5% defect rate, demonstrating that even complex electric vehicles can still achieve high reliability.

Electric vehicle sales are booming in South America — without Tesla

...
EV penetration in Latin America, including Mexico and Central America, doubled in 2024 to around 4%, and continues to grow, boosted by government incentives and an influx of affordable Chinese models, the International Energy Agency said in its Global EV Outlook 2025.

Latest figures show EV market share hit 10.6% of new cars registered in Chile in September, 9.4% in Brazil in August, and 28% in Uruguay in the third quarter of the year — all record highs, according to local car associations and consultancy firms. In Europe and China, half of new cars registered by mid-2025 were EVs (56% and 51% respectively). In Japan and the U.S. rates were lower, closer to 2% and 10% respectively.
Even in Argentina, where economic headwinds persist and trade barriers are higher, EV sales are rising from a low base. China's largest carmaker, BYD, launched in Argentina for the first time in October. The company already leads electric car sales in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay.

Part of China's success has been partnering with trusted local importers to offer more affordable models tailored to regional tastes, according to seven dealerships Reuters spoke to in Peru, Chile, Uruguay and Argentina.
Nowhere is this shift more visible than in Uruguay, where BYD is the third-biggest seller across all vehicle types, trailing only General Motors' (GM.N), opens new tab Chevrolet and Hyundai (005380.KS), opens new tab. China's market share has more than doubled in the country since 2023 and is now 22%.

EU slaps €120M fine on Elon Musk’s X, straining ties with US

BRUSSELS — The European Commission on Friday imposed a €120 million fine on Elon Musk’s X, the first-ever penalty issued under the bloc’s flagship content moderation law.

The move is likely to inflame tensions with the U.S. over the bloc’s digital rules and prompted early criticism from U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who blasted the plans as a fine for “not engaging in censorship.”

While the fine’s size is moderate compared to earlier tech penalties issued by Brussels, the U.S. has repeatedly pushed the EU to water down its tech rule books in trade talks.

X was found in breach of transparency obligations it faces as a very large online platform under the EU’s Digital Services Act. The Commission said the design of X’s blue checkmark is “deceptive,” after it was changed from user verification into a paid feature.

The EU's executive also said X’s advertising library lacks transparency and that it fails to provide access to public data for researchers as required by the law.

The fine marks the conclusion of only one part of the EU’s probe into X, which opened almost two years ago as the first one under the DSA. Other major parts, such as on X’s efforts to counter the spread of illegal content and battle information manipulation, are still ongoing.

Tesla US sales drop to under 40,000 units following tax credit expiration, lowest in years

Tesla’s US sales have taken a significant hit in November, dropping to just 39,800 units according to new data. This comes as the market adjusts to the expiration of the federal tax credit, despite Tesla’s attempt to mitigate the blow with more discounts.

Since the federal EV tax credit expired at the end of September, the US electric vehicle market has been in a bit of a turmoil. We expected a hangover period after the rush to buy in Q3, but the numbers for November are stark.

According to new estimates from Cox Automotive (via Reuters), Tesla sold approximately 39,800 vehicles in the US in November.

That represents a roughly 23% drop compared to the 51,513 vehicles delivered in November 2024. It is also reportedly Tesla’s lowest monthly sales volume in the US since January 2022.

Tesla reports another Robotaxi crash, even with supervisor as it moves to remove them

Tesla has reported yet another crash involving its Robotaxi fleet in Austin to the NHTSA. The new data keeps the program’s accident rate alarmingly high compared to human drivers, even as the company prepares to remove human safety supervisors from the vehicles.

As we have been tracking in our previous coverage of the Robotaxi pilot in Austin, Tesla is required to report crashes involving its automated driving systems (ADS) to the NHTSA under a Standing General Order.

For months, we’ve seen these reports trickle in from Tesla’s small pilot fleet in Texas. In November, we reported that the fleet had reached 7 total crashes as of September.

Now, a new report filed by Tesla reveals an 8th crash occurred in October 2025.

According to the filing, the incident took place on October [Day Redacted], 2025, in Austin. The valid report (Report ID: 13781-11986) lists the “Highest Injury Severity Alleged” as “No Injured Reported,” but details are scarce because, as is typical for Tesla, the narrative description of the crash has been redacted to hide proprietary information.

We have been highlighting how Tesla often abuses NHTSA’s capability to redact much of the information in the crash reports, especially the ‘Narrative’ section, which explains precisely what happened in the incident.

...

Last month, Tesla confirmed the fleet had traveled roughly 250,000 miles. With 7 reported crashes at the time, Tesla’s Robotaxi was crashing roughly once every 40,000 miles (extrapolating from the previously disclosed Robotaxi mileage).

For comparison, the average human driver in the US crashes about once every 500,000 miles.

This means Tesla’s “autonomous” vehicle, which is supposed to be the future of safety, is crashing 10x more often than a human driver.

While Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet reportedly increased in November, with the number of cars spotted going up to 29, there’s no evidence that the Robotaxi mileage increased. In fact, the utilization rate indicates Tesla is running only a few vehicles at a time – meaning that mileage might have actually gone down.

Tesla’s 4680 battery supply chain collapses as partner writes down deal by 99%

A major link in Tesla’s 4680 battery supply chain has just snapped. South Korean battery material supplier L&F Co. announced today that the value of its massive supply deal with Tesla has been slashed by over 99%, signaling a catastrophic drop in demand for the automaker’s in-house battery cells.

This is arguably the strongest evidence yet that Tesla’s 4680 program, and the vehicle that relies on it, the Cybertruck, is in serious trouble.

In early 2023, L&F announced a $2.9 billion contract to supply high-nickel cathode materials directly to Tesla.

At the time, the industry saw this as a major move by Tesla to secure materials for its ramp-up of the 4680 battery cell, which Elon Musk had touted as the key to halving battery costs and enabling cheaper electric vehicles, a plan he later scrapped.

Right now, Tesla’s Cybertruck is the only vehicle using the automaker’s own 4680 cells.

In a regulatory filing today, L&F revealed that the contract’s value has been written down to just $7,386.

No, that is not a typo. $2.9 billion to roughly $7,400.

Tesla sales fell by 9 percent in 2025, its second yearly decline

Tesla published its final production and delivery numbers this morning, and they make for brutal reading. Sales were down almost 16 percent during the final three months of last year, meaning the company sold 77,343 fewer electric vehicles than it did during the same period in 2024.

For the entire year, the decline looks slightly better with a drop of 8.6 percent year over year. That means Tesla sold 1,636,129 cars in 2025, 153,097 fewer than it managed in 2024. Which in turn is more than it managed to shift in 2023.

Malaysia and Indonesia block Musk's Grok over explicit deepfakes

Malaysia and Indonesia have blocked access to Elon Musk's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Grok over its ability to produce sexually explicit deepfakes.

Grok, a tool on Musk's X platform, allows users to generate images but has recently been used to edit images of real people to show them in revealing outfits.

The South East Asian countries said Grok could be used to produce pornographic and non-consensual images involving women and children. They are the first in the world to ban the AI tool.

There is also growing pressure to block Grok in the UK, with its technology secretary saying she would back the move, leading Musk to accuse the government of wanting to suppress free speech.

Malaysia and Indonesia's communications ministries announced their move against Grok in separate statements over the weekend.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission said on Sunday that it issued notices to X earlier in the year to seek tighter measures after it found "repeated misuse" of Grok to generate harmful content.

UK to bring into force law to tackle Grok AI deepfakes this week

The UK will bring into force a law which will make it illegal to create non-consensual intimate images, following widespread concerns over Elon Musk's Grok AI chatbot.

The Technology Secretary Liz Kendall said the government would also seek to make it illegal for companies to supply the tools designed to create such images.

Speaking to the Commons, Kendall said AI-generated pictures of women and children in states of undress, created without a person's consent, were not "harmless images" but "weapons of abuse".

The BBC has approached X for comment. It previously said: "Anyone using or prompting Grok to make illegal content will suffer the same consequences as if they upload illegal content.".

It comes hours after Ofcom announced it was launching an investigation into X over "deeply concerning reports" about Grok altering images of people.

If found to have broken the law, Ofcom can potentially issue X with a fine of up to 10% of its worldwide revenue or £18 million, whichever is greater.

And if X does not comply, Ofcom can seek a court order to force internet service providers to block access to the site in the UK altogether.

European Commission opens investigation into Elon Musk’s X

The formal investigation into X comes after outcry at the platform's failure to prevent the creation of sexually explicit images of real people – including children.

The European Commission has launched a formal investigation into Grok, X’s chatbot, after the image-editing function of its built-in AI tool was widely used to virtually undress pictures of real women and underage girls without their consent.

As first reported by Handelsblatt, the probe will look at whether or not the social media platform did enough to mitigate the risk of the images being created and disseminated.

If X is found to have breached EU online platform rules under the bloc's Digital Services Act (DSA), the Commission could fine the company up to 6% of its global annual turnover.

Last December, the European Commission fined Elon Musk’s social network €120 million over its account verification tick marks and advertising practices.

The concerns emerged last summer after the platform's built-in AI tool, Grok, was enhanced with a paid feature known as “Spicy Mode”, which allowed users to prompt it to create explicit content.

For comparison, human drivers in the United States average approximately one police-reported crash every 500,000 miles, according to NHTSA data.

That means Tesla’s robotaxis are crashing at a rate 9 times higher than the average human driver.

However, that figure doesn’t include non-police-reported incidents. When adding those, or rather an estimate of those, humans are closer to 200,000 miles between crashes, which is still a lot better than Tesla’s robotaxi in Austin.

Paris prosecutor’s cybercrime unit searches X office, Musk summoned

French police raided the offices of Elon Musk’s social media network X on Tuesday and prosecutors ordered the tech billionaire to face questions in April in a widening investigation, amid growing scrutiny of the platform by authorities across Europe.

France’s raid and the summoning of Musk — which could further increase tensions between Europe and the U.S. over big tech and free speech — are linked to a year-long investigation into suspected abuse of algorithms and fraudulent data extraction by X or its executives.

Britain’s privacy watchdog, meanwhile, also kicked off a formal investigation into Musk’s artificial intelligence chatbot Grok over the processing of personal data and its potential to produce harmful sexualised images and video content.

Tesla ‘Robotaxi’ adds 5 more crashes in Austin in a month — 4x worse than humans

...
Tesla submitted five new crash reports in January 2026, covering incidents from December 2025 and January 2026. All five involved Model Y vehicles operating with the autonomous driving system “verified engaged” in Austin.

The new crashes include a collision with a fixed object at 17 mph while the vehicle was driving straight, a crash with a bus while the Tesla was stationary, a collision with a heavy truck at 4 mph, and two separate incidents where the Tesla backed into objects, one into a pole or tree at 1 mph and another into a fixed object at 2 mph.

As with every previous Tesla crash in the database, all five new incident narratives are fully redacted as “confidential business information.” Tesla remains the only ADS operator to systematically hide crash details from the public through NHTSA’s confidentiality provisions. Waymo, Zoox, and every other company in the database provide full narrative descriptions of their incidents.

where are you, right wing free speech warriors?

Trump leaned on Apple and Facebook to remove ICE tracking apps

Is it illegal to share information about what the US government does internally, in public?

Tesla is recalling its cheaper Cybertruck because the wheels might fall off

Tesla is recalling its RWD Cybertruck Long Range over faulty brake rotors that could cause the wheels to fall off, as spotted earlier by MotorTrend. In a notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website, Tesla says “brake rotor stud holes may crack and allow the stud to separate from the wheel hub.”

The recall affects all 173 of the $70,000 Cybertrucks sold by Tesla, which come with 18-inch steel wheels. The company notes that it has identified three warranty claims potentially linked to the issue, but it’s “not aware of any collisions, fatalities, or injuries” related to the recall.

This is the 11th Cybertruck recall so far, following issues with the vehicle’s accelerator, trim, inverter, reverse cameras, and even font size. Tesla released its RWD Cybertruck model last April, but discontinued it just months later. It launched an even cheaper $60,000 dual-motor AWD Cybertruck variant in February of this year, which isn’t affected by this recall.
