Ok, I'm a little behind on this show. I recently watched the first season on DVD and I'm definitely going to watch this season, but I have no idea what the hell happended in the 2nd season. Can anyone give me a quick rundown on the main points of season 2 before I watch the opener later tonight? Much appreciated!

Actually, I would go out and buy the 2nd season. Watch it. Don't watch tonight, but record it. Then when you're done, watch the episode tonight. Reading what you missed out on kinda sucks compared to actually watching it, IMO.

I've hear we only get to see four of the regular cast members in tonight's episode. We will for sure see Jack, Kate, & Sawyer, with the fourth member either being Michael, Hurley, or the fake Henry Gale guy (if they consider him to be a regular all ready). I can't wait, tonight is going to be awesome, it's too bad that I wont be able to watch it live (thank God for the DVR) because the Tigers are in prime time again, but I'm assuming their game will be done by Midnight (EST) and then I will be able to watch the commercial free version just before bed time. FWIW, it is a Jack flashback tonight.

Well, according to this article in The Detroit Free Press, Michael won't be around this season

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061004/ENT03/610040350/1038

Here is a "Lost" plot primer, with a peek at what might be coming:

• Jack Shepard (Matthew Fox), James (Sawyer) Ford (Josh Holloway) and Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly): The trio at the heart of the story, intrepid doctor Jack, con man Sawyer and tortured bad girl Kate are prisoners of the Others, traded by fellow castaway Michael for his kidnapped son, Walt. ABC released photos of Sawyer in a wooden cell and Jack in a flashback to his doctor days. Harold Perrineau, the actor who plays Michael, isn't on the cast list this season. Sawyer and Kate face hard labor, while Jack gets a tempting offer from the Others' leader. Producers have said Kate chooses between Jack and Sawyer.

• Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick): Originally a bit player, Desmond surfaced last season as the guy who pushed buttons for years inside the hatch before the Losties discovered him. We know Desmond becomes a bigger fish this season because Cusick joined the permanent cast.

• The Hatch: Before this space was blown up by Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) at the end of last season, it was the hub of action. It revealed details of the Dharma Initiative experiment and contained a computer that required regular input to avoid disaster --activating an electromagnet that can pull down a plane, it turned out. We think Mr. Eko and Locke survived the blast.

• The Numbers: Introduced as the digits that Hurley (Jorge Garcia) played to win the lottery, they kept popping up in episodes and were explained this summer in the Lost Experience, an online game. They are the key to a formula predicting exactly when the human race goes extinct. The Dharma Initiative was an experiment aimed at forestalling that apocalypse.

• Sayid (Naveen Andrews), Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Sun (Yunjin Kim): The Losties' redeemed Iraqi soldier Sayid pulls together a party of survivors to rescue Sawyer, Jack and Kate from the Others. But his plan endangers the Korean couple, Jin and Sun, who already face a challenging question: Since Jin was believed to be infertile, is he really the father of the child Sun is carrying?

• The Dead Guy: Killed in spectacular fashion while trying to make a radio transmission near the end of the first season, Boone Carlyle (Ian Somerhalder) returns as flashbacks in the mind of John Locke (Terry O'Quinn). ABC lists Somerhalder in the cast for the Oct. 18 episode, "Further Instructions."

• The New People: Kiele Sanchez plays Nikki, who becomes the love interest of another new character played by Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro. Elizabeth Mitchell (Dr. Weaver's first lover on "ER") also joins the crew

Here is a interesting question. So Desmond activated the failsafe, right? Therefore the islands magnetic field is no more, correct? And since the island has healing powers, does the lack of a strong magnetic field mean the island's healing powers are no more? And if so, does that mean Locke is no longer able to walk anymore??

I like Locke. He is one of my favorite characters. It will be interesting to see what becomes of him this season.

Didnt someone say Ben earlier in the episode? Apparently that is Henry Gale's real name. I thought the first 3 minutes was insane. The rest sucked.

Yes and he's evil. He's an evil little man.

I thought the entire episode was good. More questions, of course, but that's Lost for you. Is Juliett new to the show? I swear I've seen her before. Anyone else seen her on the show before? She looks like Desmond's girlfriend, but isn't Desmond's girlfriend European?

And Sawyer gave Kate his fish biscuit!

Ginofan
10-05-2006, 09:18 AM
I liked the episode. I thought there was way too many commercials, but Matthew assured me that it was the same length as any other episode, blah!

I didn't like how "Ben"/FakeHenryGale wanted to dress Kate up and feed her when he didn't do squat for Jack or Sawyer. It seemed like he wanted to play with her mind more than make her "feel like a lady" And who was that kid that tried to help Sawyer escape? Was he from their plane crash or a different one?

More and more questions!

That kid who tried to help Sawyer escape was the same kid fixing something under the house in the first scene of the episode. Anyone else catch that?

No it wasn't. The guy fixing the plumbing under the house was Ethan - the guy who was sent off by Henry/Ben to 'infiltrate' the front section - and killed in the first season.

I don't get what people are looking for in this season. It's the same as it's always been. it sort of answers earlier questions, and introduces a whole lot more. It hasn't changed the formula at all. Maybe it has to do with people watching season one and/or two all in a row, and getting their 'answer' as soon as they want it - while the rest of us have waited a week from the beginning.

I just don't know what you're waiting for. If you're not liking the show, why watch it?

Not personally at all. It just seems like people are annoyed with the show because it isn't something that it's never been in the first place. It's never revealed a lot. It's always left more questions than answers.

It's done it since episode 1.

It's done it since episode 1.I think the answer to why people get annoyed is right there. It has never revealed a lot. For awhile, that is great, but as time goes on I feel people expect there to be answers as well as new questions. Lost rarely gives you much resolution and at some point that gets old.

If you listen to fans of Alias, the exact same thing happened with that show.

It is still an entertaining show, without a doubt. But I am annoyed that there are still very answers. It does seem as though the "monster/smoke/security system" will return next week. Perhaps while get some answers there. I'm not holding my breath though.

I just got done watching the episode, (recorded it and watched the Tigers kick ass tonight) and the closed captioning has his name at Benjamin Linus. I screamed a "hell yeah!" when Sun shot that bitch. I'm afraid we won't find out what is going to happen to Jack, Kate and Sawyer until November when it will be just before they take their "hiatus". You're exactly right, Manny. I LOVED Alias the first 2 or 3 seasons. But eventually you get tired of having to try to figure out new secrets and answer new questions, without fully learning/understandin all the old secrets and questions. Very frustrating. Same thing is happening to me with Lost. I was addicted the first two seasons...this season, not so much.

BTW, I'm probably the last person to realize this but I just saw him interviewed on Access Hollywood and he said he was off the island for good!

I thought last night's episode was great! I dig Locke stories.

When Locke and Charlie were in the jungle running from the polar bear and Locke turns around to throw the knife and ends up stabbing Hurley's book, that was pretty awesome, I loved when he said "dude..." ahaha.

Gig, that looked like a pretty bad ass polar bear, I don't think anyone would want to fuck with it even Eko. Even though Eko is Mr. Badass himself, he was still so fucked up from the blast that I'm sure even Claire could drag him off.

Next week's episode looks awesome. It looks like they are going to torture Sawyer and mess with Kate's head a little bit. I just want to know when the hell are Sayid, Jin & Sun going to rescue them so they can put together an army to take on the Others?!

:lol Nooooo, I just find it funny that they somehow managed to "build this little hospital" on the island...they even had a freakin heart rate monitor!

I don't get the big deal about that stuff, obviously all the "others" haven't been stranded there or anything like that. Obviously they have had contact with the outside world or even been in the outside world recently. Desmond's ex girlfriend obviously was just out in the real world not that long ago, they made that perfectly clear in the finale. The plot is no longer giving the impression that these people have been isolated or completely cut off from the outside world.

I was wondering when the black smoke would return, I started to think that they would never bring it back. I can't wait to find out eye-patch guy's deal is. One thing that bugs me is how they are starting to bring new characters into the fold that were on the plane.

The eye patch guy might be "Radzinski". That's a theory I've read on some Lost sites earlier today.

If you remember in the Season 2 finale during Desmond's flashback Kelvin said Radzinski killed himself in the hatch.

So who knows with this show.

Also what do people think about Eko's last words? I think he said "you're next" or something like that. Does he mean Locke or the entire plane crash survivors?

Finally watched it. Can't believe they killed Eko. I don't believe he's done. Not after some of the biggest Jesus references EVER. Rolling the giant stone outside of the 'tomb' to find the body gone? HELLO.

It was cool to find out why he was building the church (he 'owed' one) as well as some of the backstory. This was a great great great episode and you finally got some answers along with some plot twists.

I don't like the introduction of new characters. Here's an idea assholes, stop killing them off after I start to like them. Eko can't be done for good, and if he doesn't come back with a major role I'll be super super pissed. He's the coolest motherfucker around!

Eko is dead for good. According to the TV Guide link I will post below, the actor didn't want to be a permanent fixture on the show, and the article kind of paints him like an asshole, so I guess the writers were more than happy to oblige. He is dead for good.

I actually was a little disapointed in this episode, up until the Juliet and Jack video scene, which for me totally saved the episode and offered insight into the "Others" psyche. That scene alone is making me pissed that there is only one more episode left for the next few months.

That flashback was a waste of time. Kate's a lying, manipulative con artist with a soft side and a criminal history she's trying to run from? Thanks for reminding us in case anyone forgot. If they wanted to make this interesting she should having been banging the FBI agent instead of a random Miami cop.

There's a lot I'm frustrated with on this show right now. Desmond seeing the alleged future, no mention. Eko's stick telling Locke to look north, no result. If we wanted an annoying blonde and her sidekick to go tag along with Locke, maybe they should have kept more than one freaking person from the back of the plane alive and used them. I feel they wasted half a season on the tail when only Bernard's around anymore.

Luckily there was a basketball game on at the same time last night that I had just a little interest in. Also, the "Taye Diggs' Groundhog Day in a Chevy Avalanche" show that I guess is replacing Lost for the next few weeks has about zero appeal to me.

So the tail section people found a glass eyeball along with the Bible that contained the missing footage from the Dharma video. Do you guys think the glass eyeball is from the eyepatch dude? That is pretty crazy. I thought I was the first person to realize that. However I just typed in "glass eyeball LOST" into google and it seems as if hundreds before me figured that out.

I agree. There is a blog called "Lost Mysteries" where they keep track of all of the unanswered questions/unresolved issues on the show and there are hundreds of them. There's no way the show wraps everything up by the time it runs its course. This is especially true for the storylines dealing with characters like Walt. They alluded to some specials powers that he had, but never addressed the issue and now, the character is no longer on the show.

I'm not sure she was trying to get her pregnant because she would have to have a sperm donor for that, and that stuff looked like some kind of medicinal liquid. I am confused for the first time in this shows history. How was he trying to save Charlie? I don't get it. Also, who the hell was that creepy lady?

He saw Charlie get hit by the lightening in his preminition, and he saw Charlie go in after Claire and drown while attempting to save her...so he set up the lightening rod and he went in to save claire, thus preventing Charlie from entering the water (and drowning).

Not sure if the lady represents anyone..."death" maybe?

I'm losing interest in this show. Nothing ever gets resolved, nobody ever gets sick, food is plentiful, the characters rarely interact, etc.

This show is moving at a snail's pace.
The original plan, I think, was to have the show last 5 seasons total.

But, since it was a hit, of course ABC execs want to stretch it out as long as possible.

So the plot starts to implode and people stop watching.

Once people stop watching, ABC reacts by advancing the plot to try to get people watching again.

Allegedly, the producers and writers met with ABC to demand that they be allowed to wrap up the plot by the end of Season 5.

This happened to Alias too. The show went back and forth, speeding up and slowing down. So many questions went unanswered that the plot imploded. They tried to reinvent the show in more of a serial format. Nothing worked.

The show ended with an all-encompassing, very weak ending that tried and failed to answer all the questions. Lost likely will meet a similar fate. The writers are not given the freedom to do their job, and the executives eventually kill the golden goose.

No, scratch that. They will raise 30 new questions, so we'll be up to 1,027.

The writers on that show are so full of crap now. They really don't have any idea where they are going, and the answer to every question is, "Well, you'll just have to wait, watch, and see."

And payoffs are so rare, that they actually have to tell viewers when they are going to answer questions. Ooh, whooptey-doo, they're going to answer 3 questions lingering from Season 1! It only took them two years to pull some contrived answer out of their asses!

The show is a fraud.

I'm still pissed about the Walt thing. Why did he have those powers? What were they exactly? Why did they take him? And then, poof!, he was gone. We had to hear Michael cry about looking for his son in, at least, 10+ shows and then they answer zero questions?

Great plot line.

And why can't they have a decent back story/flashback AND a decent on-island story in the same episode?

I don't care about Walt and Michael. At this point they're no longer a part of the story. Given that the island is fucked up, it's understandable that Michael and Walt would be affected by it somehow... but I don't think it's essential to have a complete story arc for every character. In fact, I think that would get very convoluted.

Imagine if David Lynch tried to answer all the questions raised in some of his films. Would they be as good? Is it as fun to discuss something that answers all of your questions for you? I don't think so.

Yeah, but Walt had some form of telekinetic powers before they got to the island. And, he was something special because the Others were performing tests on him. I'd like to know the story behind that.

So I had to DVR lost this week (22 Feb) because I went to the ATL/SA game, but I watched it last night...

What three questions got answered? Because I'm at a loss for that one...

Also, the fact that Jack's tatoo says "He walks among us but is not one of us", when it was supposed to say "leader of men, lonely, and angry" or whatever...what the hell does that mean?

Also, why does that old chick say "it's ironic" when reading the tatoo? Is it because "he walks among us, but is not one of us" describes the "others".

Funny that the predicition before this week's episode was that it would answer three but raise another 30...seems to have done exactly that for me.

Can anyone help?

Here's another thing...

The tattoo that it showed only had the Chinese characters on it, not the large symbol that was placed above the writing....was that just some random "art" or was there more to the story, more to the tatoo?

Nothing really major, just a few scenes with Charlie/Hurley/Vincent finding the car keys, and before that, the began with a young/thin Hurley talking to his dad before he leaves him for I believe was 17 years, promising a roadtrip to the Grand Canyon and giving Hurley a candy bar before he went off.

Worst episode of Lost ever, what a waste of time. I'm really beginning to lose faith in the show.

I don't think that they really knew where they wanted to take the show after last years great season, either that or they knew exactly where they want to take it and that is into eternity like the X-Files.

They continue to create far more questions than they answer, and they are writing themselves in circles. Continuing to introduce more characters 3 seasons into it while they haven't given answers about the existing characters. If they insist on introducing new characters this late into it, at least spend the episodes giving the back story on them instead of additional pointless back story on the main characters that we already know about. Like Jack and Hurley the last 2 weeks.

Did they feel that they had an episode to waste on Hurley? It had nothing at all to do with the plot, and it was completely cheesy. They revealed more plot in the preview to next weeks episode than they did in this weeks episode in its entirety.

Agree with other posters, it was a good episode. My thoughts....

How did Locke become the mistake-prone dumbass all of the sudden? Who leaves a tied up "other" to go play a game of chess and then gets the station with the satellite blown up? Totally out of character for him....

I wanna know what the hell the black lady and the russian said to eachother. I can only guess, but I'd say she told him "they've figured out that you won't kill them, you have to kill me and yourself so they don't find out more about us".

I like how the back-story tied into his final decision to let the russian live.

I didn't like how the station got blown up, because it could have clearly answered several more questions (like why/how the food drops occur, etc.).

It's crazy how the Dharma Initiative knew about the hostiles.

I'm sure I'll think of a bunch more shit, but that's the stuff off the top of my head....

Jack is playing along with the others to gain their trust, so him and Juliet can try and escape and get off the island.

I'm very curious who the Russian was referring to when he spoke of the great and brilliant man that brought them there, who wasn't Ben, and what is up with the list.

This show will never answer all the questions it has created, I can only hope it will answer to major ones. I have a feeling that the writers are somewhat winging it at this point, they still just making up all these little plot twists as they go. I think I might be very disappointed when it is all said and done.

This episode was awesome. LOST finally impressed me. If the only way they move from the island to the mainland is using the sub, they are fucked right now. Also, why is the island hidden? If a plane crashed on it, it is visible to a plane flying overhead. I am also curious about the season finale of season 2. I wonder when they are going to tie Desmond's ex into it. Total mindfuck with that ending last night. The good, or frustrating (I can't decide which), thing about Lost is that it lulls you into thinking about the "human" side of the island with the communication towers, submarine, community, etc...BUT, then it throws you for a loop with the black smoke, the random appearing things, the references to "him", and now this "box in the middle of the island" that things come out of....and what came out was Locke's dad?

Here's what I can't figure about that...

Locke has a connection with the island, so it's very likely that he "made" his dad appear...but then if he blew up the Sub to get away from his father, why would he want him on the island?

This goes back to the Purgatory theory in that...the Island is making Locke confront his demons, his unresolved matter so that he can't continue to run away.

Either way....it was a crazy good ending and I want to see what next week brings (hopefully not some storyline from the other side of the island).

BTW, about last week...I knew Claire was Jack's sister from the Episode when Analucia went with Jack's dad to that house in Australia where he got into a shouting match with that blonde woman about wanting to see his daughter...

Vizzini
03-22-2007, 10:25 AM
great episode. I was thinking that Locke's dad was somehow going to be on the island, it just seems like something Lost would do. I liked Locke in this episode, he's better when he's got a dark side to him (kinda like Charlie last season). I can't wait to find out why no can get back to the island once they leave it, it's a big frickin' island, that should be interesting.

It seems like Kate and Sayid are going to need Rousseau to save them, cause I can't see Ben just letting them go on their merry way after what they've seen. Question: Who exactly is the "Man from Tallahasse"? It seem logical that it is Locke's dad, but I think it might be that dark haired dude that recruited Juliet back in early February.

DirkAB

When are they going to give us a little more about the sub-station in that arctic region they showed us in the finale last season?

And I'm still confused as to who answered the phone call at the very end of the season 2 finale, the call from the arctic sub-station having to do with the anomaly, Juliette or Desmond's ex.

I think the call consisted of "We've found it," or something like that. I was thinking that Desmond's ex was on the island until that episode this season where he went back.

AFBlue

Lockes Dad is the man who killed Sawyer's mother. He is the real Sawyer, remember Sawyer's back story? James Ford Aka the fake sawyer had been looking for the real sawyer and he killed the wrong guy. This is an interesting twist in the story as well.

Everyone is saying that the last 2 episodes were great, and thats not the case at all. Don't get me wrong, they were OK episodes, but what has happend is that after so many medicore and bad episodes everyone is salivating at these slightly above average episodes and calling them great.

Nothing I've seen this season compares to season one (the best season) and probably not even last years less than stellar season. Meh, its moving now so I'm mildly intersted, but its not the way it used to be. Lost has lost a lot of luster.

Overall I thought it was a decent episode. If you remember from the last 2 seasons they've done this before were they end an ep. with a cliffhanger and then the next ep. had nothing to do with the previous ep.

Kinda creepy with 2 people being buried alive on the island. One thing I thought of though, even if Nikki and Paulo couldn't move from the spider bite wouldn't they be breathing? Hurley and Sawyer just presumed them dead it seemed.

I actually thought the "late revalations" about them discovering the hatch first, the plane first, seeing the others talk about Jack etc., was their weakass attempt at making this episode relevant. The problem is that we didn't learn anything new from these backstories, except that these two completely pointless characters were exposed to everything mysterious first....which changes nothing.

I have to admit I was excited about them killing someone off when I thought it could be one of the main cast members, but that's a horrible cop-out to kill off someone that had never even been featured in an episode, and was barely even noticeable as an extra on the show.

I reiterate...it was pointless and then disturbing at the end.
