View Full Version : Ditka couldn't have stopped Manu tonight

WOAI was reporting tonight that Manu's 24 consecutive points are a Spurs franchise record (Gervin had it previously with 23 straight, apparently in his 63 point masterpiece in 1978). They were unsure about what the NBA record was, but thought it was possible that Manu could have set that record as well.

Ginobili was never born a lefty. He willed it.
Ginobili taught David Robinson, Beno Udrih, NVE, Nate Archibald, Larry Bird, Calbert Cheaney, Chris Mullen, Bill Russell, Bill Walton and Lenny Wilkins and Lamar Odom to be lefties.
and me :D
BTW, is the reigning 3pt-shooter Jason Kapono a lefty?

This says that MJ had set a record for the most consecutive points in a row at 23 points. And guess who he ended up torchering too ;).
He poured in 58 points against the New Jersey Nets on February 26, then toasted the Atlanta Hawks for 61 on April 16 in a game in which he sank an NBA-record 23 points in a row.

The game was tied 15-15 when Manu scored that driving, 1-handed floater that went as high as the top of the backboard before nestling into the basket with 2:27 remaining in the 1st quarter. Manu then outscored the Hawks 24-8 over the course of the next 4:47 and the Spurs led 39-23 at the 9:40 mark of the 2nd quarter.
Incredible. 24 points in less than 5 minutes.

Sorry to get here so late. A few things worth mentioning:
-Britney Spears' new haircut started as an attempt to copy Manu's hair but quickly got out of hand.
-Peyton Manning was finally able to stop playing scared against the New England Patriots after head coach Tony Dungy set him straight on a very important fact. The media often compared the Spurs and Patriots because of parallels between the two teams' philosophies and successes, not because Manu Ginobili played for both teams.
-The elbow that Kobe Bryant was suspended for was actually due to Ginobili going to great lengths to create contact. At a precisely timed moment, Ginobili took a deep breath in through his nose and the incredible suction did the rest.
-Despite numerous complaints about his style of play the league has yet to do anything to Ginobili. The reason? Ginobili has warned David Stern that should any action be taken he will undergo a sex change operation, defect to the WNBA, and laugh as Stern's league folds in a matter of hours.
-Lots of people would like to think their shit doesn't stink, but in the case of Manu Ginobili it's true. His biggest source of income outside of basketball is selling his excrement to auto manufacturers to create what is commonly known as "that new car smell."

If you're watching the game, you're watching Ginobili settling into a rhythm that is almost a pure, pristine lazer-guided offense.
Sometimes when he can't play that way, he turns into a border bandit with steals, blocks and an assortment of game stoppers happening too quickly to see until the slomo replay.
Oddly, MFin is now playing a bit like that. He was hot midearly in game but is playing decent D together along with Jacq, those steals tranalating into points.
As poor as their game has been, this good regular rhythm that the Spurs have now seem like, well, superb play, in contrast.
But they have to keep up their consistency and not be so complacent the first 5 minutes of every first period.

When Manu is in a good mood, he allows teams to select their poison before they die.
"When you face a player like Ginobili you have to decide if you want him driving to the basket or pulling up and shooting behind screens," Magic coach Brian Hill said. "Tonight we wanted Ginobili shooting behind screens." Ginobili matched one franchise record with five 3-pointers in the third quarter and another with six total in the second half.

I think Manu is still recognized as a starter for most of the league. He has started the majority of their games. The award is probably David Lee or Leandro Barbosa's.

It was a conspiracy. Stern was afraid of what would happen if Manu put on a one man show:
Manu steals the ball and rifles a pass to Manu streaking downcourt. Manu passes to Manu who dribbles between his legs, causing two defenders to fall down. Manu gives a perfect pass to Manu who reverse dunks over Ben Wallace and Dwight Howard. He's fouled and makes the FT. ....well, you can see what this would do to the NBA.

Suns only have six players plus Jalen Rose (who I'm not sure can still run) and a couple scrubs.
Get a couple of the six players in foul trouble early and then just bury them.

In order to keep Manu from taking my wife, family, house and business, I'd be smart to pay homage to him:
for proper decorum and simply to keep Manu off your ass, please recite these lines in hushed, reverent tones with your hands clapsed firmly in prayer and kneel before your shrine to Manu and if you do not have a shrine to Manu, may Manu have mercy on your soul.
Manu keeps the sun burning.
He threatened the Soviets with Manuism...they wept.
He performs abortions and the only compensation he will accept is scotch.
He is the father of every human ever.

It was Manu who took out his own rib to create woman, because he was really, really, horny.
Manu bought a new watch a few years back, so he gave his old one to his pal back in England. They took it and made Big Ben.
He has a summer beach house in Jurassic Park.

The depth of what Manu did to the Mavericks tonight won't be fully appreciated until late May when the Mavs get eliminated in the first round because most of there team will be nearly six months pregnant.
