Here is a few GSP quotes as per 411mania/mma

On his fight with BJ Penn at UFC 94 in January:

"I'm a different fighter than I used to be. And he is as well. This time, I want to take him out. I don't want to go to a decision. I want to finish him."

And i fully expect that he will do just that. Penn is a great fighter but as long as GSP takes it to him with his pace and versatility, by RD 4 or 5, he is going to take BJ out. No way Penn has the gas tank to hang with GSP for 5 rds, not a chance.

On a possible fight with Anderson Silva:

"A lot of people have been challenging me so far. I have a lot of friends at 185. To tell you the truth, I'm not afraid of challenging nobody at 185. I'm very confident in myself.

"I think I can do pretty well (against Silva). I think I'm a different fighter than all the guys who have fought him in the past. There's only one way to find out.

"It's a fight that everybody wants to see, including myself."

It's a mega fight for sure. I think GSP has a little more to do at 170 past Penn though. Love to see him fight Alves, maybe a Koscheck rematch there are a lot of great fights out there for GSP.

Doesn't sound like we have to worry about his contract status Evan.

I'm sure he will re-sign. I never said I wasn't.

Its just something to watch out for now as I think he will sign a ground breaking contract no matter what happens.

Juuuuuuuuuuuuuust wish it wasn't taking so long.

The only thing is they have the Penn fight booked and if he were to lose i am sure the UFC would try and dick him over big time.

Here is what I would bet anything on has happened.

UFC gave him contract A which is huge

GSP's reps gave Dana contract B

UFC said they will accept contract B but only if he wins...if not...he gets Contract C.

Does that make sense?

I think GSP is laying it all out on the line for the biggest UFC contract of all time. UFC seems to give two contracts to big stars. A per fight contract with no win bonus like Penn or a escalating show/win contract like most take.

Do you know if he is getting PPV cuts right now?

I know GSP made about 200 grand on his last couple fights with bonuses

Yessir he is...he stated somewhere he ended up making 900k total for his last fight from the UFC alone. Think it was on sirius radio. Plus he is the only fighter still allowed to wear affliction shirts.

I would say GSP has more pull in the UFC than anyone else by a mile.

If that dude learns how to speak clear English he will double his income over night. He's a good looking clean cut dude who is a badass and is great in front of the camera. What else can you ask for in marketing?

Fedor, Chuck, Arlovski, Nog, Anderson etc all suck on camera yet they are all bad asses... GSP has so much over those guys and he.is.so.young. Dude hasn't even come close to his peak IMO. He needed to be humbled and he was by Serra...best thing that ever happened to him.

Nice, well earned too. The UFC does take care of the big star fighters pretty well, just wish they were more generous to some of the up and comers. It always annoyed me how Tito would just talk about his base money of about 250 grand and not mention how much he was making in bonuses. He was probably making over a mil a fight with the UFC for a long time.

"I would say GSP has more pull in the UFC than anyone else by a mile"

Well Chuck is still making the most money and i think Randy's new deal might make him 2nd, heard that somewhere but both those guys are obviously on their way out, especially Chuck.

His English is actually so much better NOW than even it was like 2 years ago.

Don't have to tell me, GSP is my fav MMA fighter by far, i love the guy. His ceiling is through the roof, just has to stay healthy and focused and he'll rule the sport of years to come.

Agree...but...they do allow them to have those banners behind them so that needs to be considered. UFC could easily put their own sponsers behind the fighters and take the money. Just trying to play devils advocate as I often do here since I love the debates.

Tito stated in his autobiography his fight with Rashad earned him a million and who knows what he earned against Lyoto since the book was written before that.

What is your stand on the TUF contracts?? I heard that is the main reason Jardine is still only making like 10 grand base pay. Hammill just got only 10 grand for the Franklin fight. I have heard a lot that those TUF deals are just lousy and the only way you make a lot of money is if you go on like a 9 fight win streak. Have you heard similiar things or are there a lot of bonuses their i am not aware of??

They get more money than what is stated to the commission (E.g. Griffin, Jardine, etc.). What is reported is only their base salary. How much more? Who knows? It's enough for them to accept their fights.

The standard contracts are signed before the season even starts. The winners sign the '6-figure' contract as an update to their original contract and it's more than 10,000 dollars per fight.

^agree 100%.

After reading all of these MMA biography's available I am completely convinced that the payouts we see are only half the story.

Example...After Chuck beat down Babalu he was talking to him before he got wheeled away to the hospital and Dana came out to say good bye to Babalu and haded him a nice bonus check.

Here's my quick thoughts on money in MMA (we have had this discussion a few times but whatever...its all in good fun)

- We haven't a clue how much these guys make

- Nobody can make money in MMA and stick around except the UFC so I am guessing their salaries are fair whatever they are. Affliction has only put on 1 show and a lot of their roster got screwed with that last cancellation. When was the last time chris horodecki got a paycheck?

- The UFC could probably pay more but they pump a ton of money back into the sport. What other MMA does or has? This venture http://www.mmafacts.com/ (UFC owns that website BTW) to get MMA regulated nation wide is costing them a fortune.

- Only a couple of fighters have complained. Thats significant.

- I want these guys to get every penny they can but I am convinced they are.

I know, in the NFL you have all of these holdout issues and what not. In the NBA and MLB there are a lot of players that have contract issues. In MMA, and UFC in general...not so much. Like Evan said, that is significant.

Shamrock vs. Shamrock - signed?

According to an article on ESPN.com, the fight is signed and the particulars are being sorted out.

"We've both signed a contract to fight each other," younger brother Frank Shamrock told ESPN.com. "Ken is down with it. We talked about it two years ago, and we've agreed materially to fight."

"Will the fight happen? Absolutely," Ken Shamrock told ESPN.com. "He's got a buttkicking coming to him. Everything I've learned, everything I have bottled up in me, is going to come out on him. I've still got love for Frank, but I'm angry at him."

It will most likely be under the EliteXC banner, probably some time in April of next year.

Oops. They were really trying to build him into a super star. If you notice they even have a Roger banner in the TUF gym. Wasn't he asking for more money the BJ Penn makes? Publicly negotiating a contract didn't work so well did it, Roger?

I like the guy a lot…hope this works out. I wouldn't bury him like the write up says though…this could be a ploy by the UFC and nothing more.

Yeah bitching about money, when you are on your last fight of your current deal, only to lose that fight puts you in a bad spot going forward. I like Roger, i expect something to get worked out here but he is going to get far less than he wanted.

Little clean-up from this conversation via fightlinker quoting a Japanese blog that has some speculation. Shaky source at best concerning the money owed Diaz that just popped up.

Dream pays Nick Diaz in full from his last bout in May. Diaz agrees to return to fight in Japan, however at this point it is unclear for which organization. - GracieFighter

A quite big Japanese MMA blog made a post today that KJ Noons, Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett, and Nick Diaz are going to SENGOKU and that KJ Noons will most likely debut on the New Years Event.

Good Points, on second thought, yeah your right he probably doesn't party all that much. I still don't care for Dana's attitude though. I respect all he has done for MMA and lord knows i love the UFC, but all the cursing and really bullying tactics are getting very old by this point.

His constant fighter bashing is something that has always pissed me off as it makes no damn sense. Calling Fedor overrated is not getting him in the UFC any faster. Calling Tito a friggin Moron is not smoothing anything over to get him to re-sign any quicker. Recently when he threw Sylvia under a bus after he lost to Fedor that was waaay over the line for me. Saying how he "Was stinking the joint up for years and thank god Fedor got rid of him" I'm no Tim fan but this is a guy that had a heck of a career in the UFC. Heavyweight champ 2 times over. Why does Dana have to trash him like that to make him look bad?? He does it to make his company appear better. Typical bully. "That guy lost because he sucks that is why we got rid of his ass" "Fedor is a fraud until he gets his ass in our company" I just can't stand him always running his mouth. I know part of his deal is he is a promoter but at this point with all the talent the UFC has, the way he runs his mouth is hardly necesarry anymore. We don't need Dana White cursing up a storm and beating his chest to sell Penn Vs GSP 2. And can the man go 2 sentances without saying "FUCK", i mean is that possible?? That video i posted of Dana was both funny and 100% accurate.

You have to just roll your eyes and ignore that. That stuff used to bother me until I read Chuck's auto biography and he explained that "part of Dana's job is to be a carnival barker."

The UFC and Dana know exactly what they are doing…the day such a brash attitude doesn't work anymore with the public he will stop. He has already turned it down a lot.

However…he does have a fierce 'your either with us or against us' attitude and considering he is neck deep in a industry full of cheaters, ego's and thieves it’s the only way to survive. It works. There is no way he could deal with agents, fighters and competitors unless he acted like a 800lb silver back gorilla.

Unapologetically I really like and admire the guy but when he starts his trash talking I pay zero attention to it. Literally. My eyes will just shoot to the end of the quote. I guarantee not even Dana takes it seriously.

WOW, if his heart is not really into fighting like it was, Cote may have a shot here. Not impossible, Serra hit the lotto with GSP once upon a time. If he is serious about retiring, i would expect the UFC tries to push for GSP and Silva to fight soon. Maybe even after the Penn fight.

I love Kenny Florian. When he retires they should get him in the booth immediately, he was great at UFC 83 and he does that weekly show as well. Maybe they can make Kenny do the play by play and keep Rogan as the color or just have him replace Rogan and find a new play by play.

During a recent interview with Tatame.com, Cris "Cyborg" Santos discussed facing Gina Carano as soon as February 2009 for the EliteXC Women's Championship:

"I think it'll be in February, and it'll be cool. Everybody wanna see this fight, we both fight on the last event and won, and it'll be great. I'll keep my Muay Thai like I did in my last fights. I'll stand with her, and I think she likes it too, so why not? It'll be a huge fight and someone is going down. [EliteXC] didn't say if it's going to be for the belt, but I think it'll be".

Fights like these make me waver on my recent belief that he is willing to fight cans because he doesn't really have a good idea about their background. This eliminates any excuse that he doesn't know their cans.

Yeah but he is fighting Andrei soon, he is a tremendous fighter. So he'll fight a can after that fight. To me it doesn't matter. He owns the current champ in the UFC and would smash any other Heavy in the UFC as well. Randy should be lucky they never fight. He has no chance whatsoever.

Still doesn't wipe out the fact that he is fighting some bogus fights again like the old days. Fact is fact…Anderson should not be fighting cans and neither should Fedor. That’s not the way it is supposed to work. Not with them…not with GSP…not with BJ Penn…not with anyone. Fighting a badass does not give you a free pass to fight a can.

He is fighting Cote who has never been a top flight fighter at any weight class. Not long ago he lost bad to Travis Lutter. And just 3 fights ago he Beat Kendall Grove, who is all but washed up completely in MMA. I know Silva has fought the best a lot in the UFC but Fedor does not have that option.

I'm having an email discussion with someone and I thought I would throw this out there for y'all to agree with or tear apart.

In my opinion...based on zero facts...

There is a great hoax that has been played on us MMA fans…while the fights were legit the organization is not. Affliction is 1 big commercial and has zero intentions of making money off their fights. They just want to get there name out there on MMA sites as much as possible to sell their clothes. Think of how often they are talked about and think about how much they would have cost them in true commercial ads. Yeah Affliction MMA has probably gone in the red 7 million (just guessing) but they have probably gotten back 40 million in free ads and sales (another guess.)

your opinion on my theory?

you talking about this?

Thoughts?

Seriously i think you are dead on. They got tons of fighters wearing their product, they are a huge clothing line and getting in the fight game has helped push the brand. Probably felt, "if we become successful in the fight game great, if not oh well we sold a shitload of T-Shirts while it lasted"

LOL well I have thought about this before when i first heard about affliction. I think what happened with them is that the sales just werent going anymore. Tapout and Warrior started picking up more fighters and their clothing and were WAYYY cheaper than Affliction. There was prob something that we dont know about with UFC and affliction that we dont know about. Affliction prob wanted the other clothing banned and UFC prob said no, so affliction went off to do thier own thing. It was prob a FU to UFC and a way to advertise primarily. Thing is Affliction clothing is pretty much out of style now.

I intentionally don't get too close to people I work with. I have done it before and seen it enough time to realize its not a good idea. The best working relationships have a personal line you do not cross. It doesn't work to have a deep hearted conversation in the morning about a family member and then have to get onto them about not doing ________ that affects your job.

Doesn't matter too much, ideally Junior High or even Elementary level. I am a certified Tennis instructor and taught at health clubs for years, also coached some basketball. Being a teacher and coach will bring me far more joy day to day than the nonsense i deal with now. Plus i just turned 28, no wife and kids, so if i'm going to make a major change, now is a good time to do it.

Before packing up and returning to the U.S. after Saturday's "UFC 89: Bispng vs. Leben," the UFC held an open casting call for "The Ultimate Fighter 9: U.S. vs. U.K." in London.

Just two days after Brit and "The Ulitmate Fighter 3" winner Michael Bisping was victorious in front of his countrymen, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned over 200 hopeful fighters showed up to the Earls Court Exhibition Centre for their chance at a UFC contract.

In contrast, when the UFC held open tryouts for the third season of "The Ultimate Fighters" in 2006, less than 30 fighters showed up for the session.

One of the more notable participants in the afternoon's session was "The Ultimate Fighter 3" cast member Ross Pointon. The Cage Rage veteran appeared twice in the UFC following his stint on the show, losing both contests.

Vying for an unprecedented second stint on the program, Pointon showed up with a haircut that sported the letters "UFC" etched into the back of his head.

Filming for "The Ultimate Fighter 9: U.S. vs. U.K" will begin in Las Vegas in January, and the new season will air on Spike TV beginning in April. The season will feature 16 American and 16 British fighters competing for a UFC contract in the 185 pound and 170 pound divisions.

And the main reason i doubted and still do Rich fighting Bisping is from his own words. After he fought Hammill he said in the press conference that he "Wanted to dedicate himself to putting on more muscle, now that he is at 205" That "He needed to get bigger and stronger if he wanted to compete there" Doesn't sound to me like he'd be thrilled if the UFC knocked on his door and said "We need you to fight Bisping back at 185" All i'm saying.

Man makes a good point here

"According to White there are guys better than Tim Sylvia. Well, who are they? Looking at the world rankings one can conclude it is Fedor himself, Couture whose situation I discussed above, then it’s Nogueira, Josh Barnett and Andrei Arlovski. To face off with Josh or Andrei there is no need for Fedor to come to UFC. He’ll fight them at Affliction"

This is why White needs to Zip it when it comes to the Fedor bashing. He will beat Andrei in Jan probably just as bad as he did Tim.

I am a huge UFC but I honestly could not care less if Fedor comes to the UFC.

Fights like Choi, Lindland and that amateur in June bother me.

Arlovski and Sylvia do not. There is enough interesting fights, as is, to keep Fedor fighting real fights outsode of the UFC for about a year and a half. Josh, Arlovski, Cro Cop (meh), Alistair Overeem , Kharitonov (meh.) Some really good fights but ones that do nothing and I mean nothing for PPV sales. Mere die hard appeasement but what do I care?

However...I am not sure there will be a forum to show those fights soon. Economy may kill off what the UFC hasn't been able to do yet.

There is a very real and very likely chance we will never see Fedor in the UFC and I don't care anymore. As long as we see those fights above without seeing BS cans in between who can complain?

Robbie Lawler news

Former EliteXC Middleweight Champion Robbie Lawler recently released a statement on his website regarding his thoughts on EliteXC shutting down, as well as the rumors of him possibly returning to the UFC:

As everyone knows Elite XC is no longer around. I enjoyed my time working for them and I was treated really well. Thank you to everyone at Proelite for the opportunity to fight in front of millions of fans.
Last week I spent at the UFC with Matt Hughes. The atmosphere was awesome as usual. I spent time talking to Monte Cox about what my options are. I also had a brief conversation with the very busy prez of the UFC. All that said I think I will be just fine. I will blog when i sign with an organization. Until then I will keep my self in good shape.

The status of the EliteXC fighters' contracts is still up in the air.

Would the UFC not want him back? He's a good fighter they can promote fights with him.. Did he leave on bad terms at all??

I have seen him corner a few times so I don't think so. He's even been on TUF as a trainer.

If anyone is interested...Randy's books is very very good. The best MMA bio I have read so far.

If you want to skip to MMA start at page 95. I'm soaking up a lot of MMA shitory here.

Give me a couple more days to finish and I'll answer this.

But here is this...every single MMA biography mentions 1 person…no fighters seem to like Tito and its obvious Tito ducks fights.

I don't think they should all hate Tito, he is one of the original super-stars of the sport that got paid pretty well for it. He did knock down some doors. Back when he fought Shamrock the first time everyone was getting paid chicken feed. And while he may have not been thrilled to fight certain guys, i think it is strong to say he ducks fights. He has fought the best of his era, has he not??

The people that were there from the get go seem to think he caused more problems than good.

Sounds like a little bit of jealousy to me. He became a big star and he got paid. Who was getting paid and a big star in MMA before he came along? really nobody right..

You should read some of these books. You would enjoy them.

Start with Matts or Chucks's if you want to give them the time.

These guys don't seem to hold grudges with anyone but Tito and its not about money.

I got this from 411 mania...not much, but its good to know.

"Dana White has confirmed that he's interested in signing Robbie Lawler, Jake Shields, and Nick Diaz."

^awesome

Shields-Swick has always fascinated me since Mike dropped down. Make it happen. Jake vs Karo would be sweet too.

Lawler could make some noise at 185 but i don't see him being with the likes of Hendo and Rich. Lawler-Bisping would be nice.

Nick could do alot better 155, but with his brother there I can't see him going there. Good gatekeeper for both divisions. Can't beat BJ at either though.

New GSP interview he says he "Has a new deal with the UFC but strangely hasn't signed the Penn fight yet" Then he talks about the fight like it will happen for sure. weird...

Interesting tidbits from Randy's book so far.

His entire left side of his body is wrecked from injuries, but not his right.
Matt Lindland screwed over a lot of people with busienss deals
Tito Ortiz wanted to join team quest but they denied him because he is such a bad influince on young fighters.
He says Dana White has iron clad will and insane ambition (has hasn't used this book to trash Dana, yet)
SpikeTV wouldn't air televised fights so TUF was the alternative.
Dana wanted head gear for TUF 1, Randy told Dana "head gear is for p*ssy's"
