Bobby Lashley's 3rd Fight/Opponent Confirmed

From Dave Meltzer...

"Bobby Lashley’s third pro match is scheduled against former NFL defensive tackle Marcus Jones on 4/25 in Knoxville for the XFC promotion. The card will air live on HDNet. Jones, 35, (4- 2), is 6-6, 278 pounds and was the first round draft choice out of North Carolina by the Tampa Bay Bucs in 1996. He played seven seasons in the NFL, and trains out of the Gracie gym in Tampa and debuted as a pro 28 months ago. In his last match, on 2/14 in Daytona Beach, Jones finished John Juarez in 1:39."

I think this is another great fight for Bobby. This will not only put him in there with someone who has more MMA experience, but the guy is bigger/stronger than him, so it will force him to rely more heavily on the technique he's been training at ATT. Thoughts?

Based on what i saw in his fight with Guida he has a LONG way to go, and the Lesnar comparisons should be over with for now. We'll see how he does..

A light heavyweight bout between Forrest Griffin (16-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) and Thiago Silva (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), first reported by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), and the long-awaited return of Amir Sadollah (1-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) are both official for UFC 101.

Former "TUF" champions Griffin and Sadollah announced the bouts during the airing of the debut episode of "The Ultimate Fighter: U.S. vs. U.K."

The pair also confirmed UFC 101's Aug. 8 date in Philadelphia.

The news was announced in a segment entitled "Inside the Octagon brought to you by Burger King: Late Night News Your Way." SpikeTV officials informed MMAjunkie.com the segments are scheduled to air throughout the ninth season of "The Ultimate Fighter."

After confirming his bout, Griffin also showed off his surgically scarred left hand and described the results of the procedure necessary after his December 2008 bout with Rashad Evans.

"Got me a little plate and some screws," Griffin said. "Just one more piece of metal in my collection."

Meanwhile, Sadollah gave an update on what has kept him out of action since his winning run on "TUF 7." Sadollah also confirmed his drop to welterweight, a move first reported by MMAjunkie.com.

"I dislocated my clavicle, and it's all better," Sadollah said. "I dropped down a weight class, and I'll be fighting with [Griffin] at (UFC) 101."

Sadollah last fought in a June 2008 Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale win over C.B. Dollaway.

I don't care but he's incredibly out of line. No head of any major sport, NBA, NFL, MLB, you name it, acts in this fashion.. Dana on his recent comments, his future, and his FINAL video blog
Hey guys, I'm Carmichael Dave's Producer.

Dave just got off the phone with Dana and Dave just went on the air and talked about the conversation. Here's the link to download the audio:

http://mp3upload.ca/download/9882/da...ologue_low.mp3

Some bullet points:

* Dana will make a Video Blog Statement
* Most surprisingly, it will be his FINAL video blog.
* Dana says he has no interest in media "games"
* He's tired, and is going to greatly reduce his PUBLIC role in the future.

Dave goes on to describe Dana's thought process and mood. It was a very candid statement.

A middleweight bout between veteran UFC middleweight Chris Leben (18-5 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and recent WEC transplant Jake Rosholt (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will take place in August at UFC 102.

A source close to the negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) both competitors have agreed to the fight and that bout agreements are in the process of being finalized.

UFC 102 takes Aug. 29, most likely in Portland, Ore. Although not officially announced, a heavyweight bout between former champ Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is expected to headline the pay-per-view show.

Leben, an Oregon native, returns to competition for the first time since his unanimous decision loss to Michael Bisping at October's UFC 89 event. Leben failed a drug test administered at the overseas show due to his use of the synthetic anabolic steroid Stanozolol.

News of the failed drug test first came from the UFC since the organization itself oversaw drug testing (UFC 89 took place in England, and the country has no regulatory body to oversee MMA events). As part of the announcement, Leben issued a statement apologizing for his decision to use the banned substance.

Prior to the Bisping loss, Leben, a cast member from the first season of "The Ultimate Fighter," looked solid in back-to-back knockout victories over Terry Martin and Alessio Sakara. He'll now go for his third win in four fights.

He'll look to do so against Rosholt, who was moved to the UFC when his former home, the WEC, eliminated its middleweight division. Rosholt, a three-time NCAA Division I national wrestling champion and four-time All-American at Oklahoma State University, faced a stiff test in his octagon debut when he was matched up against Dan Miller.

Rosholt's five-fight win streak came to a halt when Miller forced him to tap out from a guillotine choke just 63 seconds into their UFC Fight Night 17 bout.

A win over Leben, a proven veteran known mostly for his stand-up game, would be the biggest of Rosholt's young MMA career.

I didn't catch this before - Kang had a recently broken ankle going into his UFC debut:

Denis Kang (31-11-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) made his highly anticipated debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship at UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland, not long after fracturing his left ankle.

He fractured his ankle on the first day of training in December 2008 for his fight with Alan Belcher (14-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC), and he struggled to get three weeks of camp in before the fight.

His performance was less than what was expected of a guy who for years has been regarded among the world's finest middleweights – Belcher submitted Kang with a guillotine choke in the second round – but do you think it might have had something to do with that gimpy ankle?

Kang wouldn't say it because he didn't want to take anything away from Belcher. But be serious: How strong could the ankle have been after he broke it, took two weeks off and then was in a fight three weeks later?

"I'm the kind of guy who doesn't want to pull out of a fight, no matter what," Kang said. "If there is a way I can fight, I'll fight.

"Anyone who fights for a living knows you really never are healthy in a fight. My right hand has been broken three times. You should see what I've gone through with that. It looks like a lump of flesh and bones. You do what you have to do. Injuries are part of it."

Kang will be healthy – or as reasonably close to it as he can expect to be – when he meets Xavier Foupa-Pokam (20-9 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at UFC 97 on April 18 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

You have to agree that nobody truly knows what goes on inside a relationship except for the people actually in the relationship. It is entirely possible that they are all wrong. For example - I got married pretty young, and pretty quickly, by a jp over the weekend. Everyone assumed I was pregnant - they were all pretty surprised when the "baby" actually came two years later :lol

As far as the married thing goes - that was wrong of her. But that makes it doubly wrong on his part, being the married one. You can't assign blame to one and not the other.

The money and career... that I couldn't say. The gym actually belongs to her; he just trains out of it. Maybe she handles all of the finances for that reason. She's the businesswoman, he's the fighter.

UFC 94 ON SPIKE TV PUMMELS COMPETITION ON BOTH BROADCAST AND CABLE

Replay Of Event Headlined By Georges St. Pierre And BJ Penn Ranks As The #1 Program Among Men 18-34 In All Of Television (Cable And Broadcast) During Its Time Period

The long anticipated welterweight championship battle between champion Georges St. Pierre and challenger BJ Penn proved to be as compelling to audiences two months after it took place, as Spike TV’s replay of UFC 94 (originally airing on pay per view on January 31) was the #1 program among Men 18-34 in all of television (cable and broadcast) during its time period on Saturday, April 11 (9:00 PM – 12:00 AM, ET/PT). It was also the highest-rated telecast among Men 18-49 on cable for the entire day.

Headlined by the title bout between St. Pierre and Penn, UFC 94 peaked with 2.4 millions during St. Pierre’s successful title defense, as he won the fight due to a referee’s stoppage after the completion of the fourth round. The entire fight card, which included Lyoto Machida’s KO of Thiago Silva to establish #1 contender status in the light heavyweight division in a battle of unbeatens, averaged 1.9 million viewers for the 3 hour telecast.

Overall, UFC 94 on Spike TV drew a 1.4 household rating and a 1.6 among Men 18-49 (878,000), a 1.3 among Men 18-34 (387,000) and had an average audience of 1.9 million viewers. By comparison, HBO’s live coverage of “World Championship Boxing: Winky Wright vs. Paul Williams” on drew 1.5 million viewers.

for anyone who wonders how the UFC/Sherdog split started

"dana says the reason sherdog not given press pass because sherdog was selling ufc dvd's for zuffa before zuffa had a distibutor to get them out. zuffa was selling the dvd's to sherdog at a reduced price. when zuffa found a distributor they increased the price of the dvd they sold to sherdog and sherdog threaten to ONLY cover pride events unless the price was reduce."

Because nothing says success in Boxing like a glass chin....

Do you think Andrei will be going back and forth between boxing and MMA, or is boxing more of his future?

He likes to box so much more than MMA. He likes the stand-up game. If boxing takes off for him I think he’ll stay, but obviously if he gets a world title fight in MMA he probably would not turn that down. I think we’ll know quickly, though. We’re not going to baby him and give him 20 tune-up fights. We’re going to lay it all on the line. My final goal would be to fight (Nikolay) Valuev of course, he’s a champion, and maybe one day a Klitschko. I used to train Wladimir Klitschko. He’s a good friend of mine and I think he’s the best heavyweight in the world today, but the division is not that strong now.

Anderson Silva, he comes to my gym and he wants to fight Roy Jones. He has four pro fights in Brazil but I don’t think he’s quite ready for Roy Jones yet. But he does have a lot of potential. He’s a very good athlete

Just an exhibition...a non-event as expected. Anybody that even mentions this as "see there, Fedor won't fight the top guys" material is a retard...

Fedor was basically playing with Aoki. He allowed him to get sub attempts like a flying armbar, a leg lock attempt, and even takedowns like the double leg and a nice seoi-nage.

Watching it though, you could very much tell that Fedor was allowing Aoki live and catch stuff for the sake of the fans. It didn’t stop him from picking him up and slamming him all around the place though, locking up subs of his own before letting go to stand back up. There was one instance where Fedor pounded the ground with a huge fist, right next to Aoki’s head—kind of a sign that, “hey, I can stop this at any moment, kiddo.”

Both were all smiles all the way through the exhibition though, so I imagine they were having lots of fun.

I totally agree with you. Randy's little contract debacle, with the UFC let a lot of people know he is not the sweetheart everyone believed him to be. Before he pulled that nonsense, everyone seemed to think it was just Tito that had a problem with his pay and was a prima donna. And yes 3 divorces for a guy not even 50 yet, is pretty bad. He's got some issues, he better not get married again, i tell ya that..

Dana White, Forrest Griffin and Kenny Florian on Dr. Phil.

Ultimate Fighting Champion president Dana White and UFC fighters Forrest Griffin and Kenny Florian recently taped an episode of the "Dr. Phil" show.

The taped episode airs next Thursday, May 14. (Check local listings for details.)

A representative from the daytime talk show today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the show will feature aspiring fighters who are practicing their craft in dangerous situations.

The UFC contingent will apparently caution viewers (and the would-be fighters) about how real-life mixed martial artists prepare and train safely for their bouts. It's also possible the trio will need to defend the sport to an audience likely to be unfamiliar with MMA.

White has previously appeared on the "Dr. Phil" show. Earlier this year, he was a special guest on the program and talked to a wife who was concerned about her husband's aspirations of becoming an MMA fighter. White shared some statistics from the sport's stellar safety record while also discussing the many precautions that are put in place to protect competitors.

In reply to suggestions Chuck Liddell should retire after his April 18th loss to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, John Hackleman explains his position to Sherdog:

“If Chuck was getting the s--t beat out of him by a bunch of nobodies and getting knocked unconscious all over the place, I would try to influence him to retire,” he continued. “But since I don’t see that –- Rashad was the only time I’ve seen him actually knocked unconscious –- if he really wants to still fight, and I think it’s in his heart, I don’t think anyone, including Dana, should take his livelihood and his love away.”

Dana White, however, disagrees:

"Obviously, John Hackleman didn’t pay his house off yet. John Hackleman needs some money, because anybody who claims they care about Chuck Liddell even a little bit would not be making these f--king statements," White told Sherdog.com Thursday.

The girl's mother was there, giving plasma. She told officers her cousin should have been watching the little girl."

The ESPN E:360 piece on Dana was pretty even i thought. Highlighted some of his good points that he has done for MMA and the bad ones.

Lorenzo was talking about, how they are where they are mainly because of Dana's hard work.

Pat Miletich said "He's done some good things for the sport, no doubt about it but i have seen the wreckage around him. Dana has never told me anything that ended up being the truth, besides the fact that his intent was to crush and ruin other people's lives and businesses"..

Also had Tito talking about the UFC denying his claim for his back surgery, which i agree with him on, although most Tito Haters probably don't..

Says things like "He was never a real fighter" Dude fought the best of his era. People can rag on Tito all they want but check the cash register. He was one of the most bankable stars ever in MMA. UFC could still be making money with him..

BJ Penn Continues Pursuit of NSAC Claim, Seeks Exhaustion in Order to Take the Issue to Court

"You may have thought grease gate was dead, but it's not. Penn's attorney and his mother were in Nevada again this week for a further hearing.

Team Penn has conceded that NSAC won't do anything, and they are now trying to get NSAC to make an official ruling against them so they can take the issue to court:

While addressing the NSAC, Penn's attorney appeared anxious to exhaust all avenues of action from the commission in order to take his complaint to a different venue.

"This whole process, and I've indicated this to you before, is relating to the administrative procedures – that we have to exhaust administrative procedures for us to move forward with this issue," Nahabedian said. "I need to have the commission make a definitive statement as to their decision, and I would request that the commission provide us with information relating to these motions represented because they are directed to the commission. They're not directed to anybody else."

In order to bring this issue into a Nevada court, Penn must exhaust all administrative remedies. His lawyer is trying to urge a swift judgment that he knows will be adverse so he can take the next step and bring suit. NSAC for its part appears to be in no hurry to take any action. This thing could get ugly even faster in court. If Penn files suit St. Pierre will undoubtedly respond with counterclaims of his own.

I don't know what Penn's angle is, and I don't know anybody besides the true believers that think he is doing this because he is so concerned about justice. Maybe he's trying to bring down St. Pierre out of spite, or maybe he's trying to get himself a rematch with St. Pierre. The latter sounds a bit conspiratorial, but it would be an interesting strategy to file suit and then condition dropping it upon St. Pierre agreeing to fight him again.

It's almost hard to remember the days when I had so much respect for BJ Penn. I really think that the realization that he's not a better fighter than St. Pierre has crushed him mentally, and he's doing everything he can to try to convince himself it wasn't legitimate. If it means spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees to bring St. Pierre down, he's willing to go there.

I almost think they should just do a third fight if both of them win their next fights. There are no clear contenders at their weight classes after Florian and Alves, and the issue remains unsettled. The octagon is there to put things to rest, and as apathetic as I am about a third fight, the idea of GSP vs. Mike Swick doesn't exactly sound amazing to me either."

http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2009/5/14...ursuit-of-nsac

At this point i hope GSP, gives him a 3rd fight and a brutal ass beating one more time..

Time Warner Cable confirmed Monday it will stop offering HDNet and HDNet Movies across all of its systems effective May 31.

The move by Time Warner Cable, which has 8.7 million digital cable subscribers, is a blow to the Mark Cuban-backed HDNet, which was among the first HD services available to cable and satellite operators.

Asked why the company was dropping HDNet's services, Time Warner Cable director of corporate public relations Robyn Watson said, "There's a limited appeal for the programming. In a world with more than 100 HD channels, being in HD is not enough. We are adding other channels in HD to give our customers more choice."

...

Cuban, in an e-mail to Multichannel News, said he would not comment "on ongoing negotiations." However, he took issue with Time Warner Cable's characterization of HDNet's programming as lacking appeal.

"[T]here are millions of viewers who enjoy our unique and exclusive programming," Cuban wrote, adding that "we are not a cookie-cutter network like those from the big media conglomerates" and claiming that HDNet's viewers "do business with providers specifically to get our progamming."

DAMN: AJ out of June fight against Matt Brown.

An injured knee has forced Anthony Johnson out of June 20 fight with Matt Brown.

The bout was scheduled for the televised main card of The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale, which airs on Spike TV.

Johnson released the news with a recent MySpace bulletin, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the injury with a source close to the fighter.

However, the UFC has yet to announce the injury, and as of Tuesday morning, it was still listed on the UFC.com Events page.

The UFC has a full month to find a replacement, though the bout could be scrapped from the already-loaded fight card, which takes place at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort. The televised slot could be fill be an already announced preliminary bout between veteran Chris Lytle and Kevin Burns or a rumored bout between Melvin Guillard and Gleison Tibau.

Johnson gave no time table for his return. The welterweight fighter was going for his third consecutive win following a knockout of Kevin Burns in December and a TKO win over Luigi Fioravanti in February.

Brown, meanwhile, is looking for his fourth win in five UFC fights. He most recently scored a brutal first-round TKO of Pete Sell at UFC 96 in March.

And again...

Veteran heavyweight and once again rising contender Cheick Kongo (14-4-1 MMA, 7-2 UFC) will replace Heath Herring (28-14 MMA, 2-3 UFC) and fight Cain Velasquez (5-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) at next month's UFC 99 event.

Kongo posted the change on his Facebook early Wednesday morning, and the UFC has since made the adjustment official.

UFC 99 takes place on June 13 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany.

On Tuesday the UFC announced that an injury forced Herring out of the co-main-event fight. However, a report from MMA FanHouse stated the fighter instead was dealing with a sickness that's left him out of training for the past couple weeks.

It is currently unknown if the Kongo vs. Velasquez bout will remain in the same slot on the evening's schedule.

As far as drawing power in Germany and the potential impact on the heavyweight title picture, Kongo is arguably an upgrade. However, his UFC 99 appearance would be his second fight in just two months. He most recently topped Antoni Hardonk with a second-round TKO at UFC 97.

It was the third consecutive victory for Kongo, whom UFC President Dana White recently said was back in the title picture and possibly just a win or two away from a shot at the belt.

Satoshi Ishii to Sign With Sengoku

A press conference was held in Tokyo today, announcing that 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist in Judo, Satoshi Ishii, has signed with World Victory Road to fight in their SENGOKU event. No debut date was announced but he is expected to debut within the year. This is easily the biggest signing of the year and a HUGE signing for WVR.

Update #1: Ishii has signed for more than one fight. He has signed a provisional contract and on Thursday he will sign the real contract at an open to fans contract signing event in Japan.

*******************************************

Dana said he would let him go if "he hit the lottery" so I guess thats it. Good for Ishii...hope to see him in the UFC in the next few years.

I only say that because I burned thousands on cars from age 18-28...not only modifications and upgrades, but high insurance, terrible gas mileage, expensive maintenance, speeding ticketing (goes along with having a sports car, because you DO get picked on).

Sold one of these in 2004...
http://www.s2performance.net/ws6nick2.jpg

and bought a sportbike instead, which I then sold when the kiddo came along...I miss both of course...and wouldn't mind getting another bike since it's a relatively cheap "toy"...

In hindsight, I should've bought a stock Civic when I was 18 and socked a bunch of money away...you'll get to that point someday too... ;)

Koscheck vs. Trigg signed for UFC 103 in September

Kos will dominate Trigg badly, he better..

Shortly after inking a new deal with the UFC, Frank Trigg (19-6, 2-3 UFC) now has an opponent. The MMA veteran will face Josh Koscheck (12-4, 10-4 UFC) at UFC 103 in Dallas on Sept. 19.

Sources close to the event recently confirmed the news of the bout to MMAJunkie.com.

Trigg will be making his first appearance in the UFC since 2005. He recently signed a four-fight deal to return to the organization after back-to-back losses to Georges St. Pierre and Matt Hughes led to his release from the company four years ago.

Trigg is currently riding a four-fight win streak heading into his bout with Koscheck.

After winning seven of his first eight fights in the UFC, Koscheck has gone just 3-3 in his last six fights. He lost a pair of tough decision losses to Georges St. Pierre and Thiago Alves, and then suffered a surprising TKO defeat to Paulo Thiago in his most recent outing at UFC 95 in February.

Koscheck will look to get back on track Sept. 19 when he steps into the cage against Trigg.

Andrei Arlovski's days as a fighter for Affliction Entertainment are over.

Fighters Only first reported that Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio will not offer Arlovski a new contract now that his original deal has expired. MMAjunkie.com has since independently confirmed the news.

Arlovski (15-7), a former UFC heavyweight champion, most recently suffered a 22-second TKO loss to Brett Rogers at a June 6 Strikeforce event. He earned $2.25 million for his two Affliction fights.
