Joey Crawford fucked us.
When he got back into the Ref's dressing room, quietly pulled off his ref jacked, sat back and recalled the day that Tim Duncan also laughed...the day that Joey threw him out of the game.
Then ever so slightly, Crawford leaned back, and smiled.
No Call--game to Lakers.
For him--Mission Accomplished...
Because that argument is endless. The game obvioulsy boiled down to one last play. The Game deserved to be decided in OT if, and a BIG freakin IF in my book, Barry makes two to tie.
If the the play that led to the opportunity was a fuck up, were going to ignore that and automatically assume the game DESERVED OT? I call bs on that. Sure we don't have to argue every call but the play before it was a DIRECT RESULT.

While it could be said that Fisher fouled Barry, it was a good no call. Barry pulled the ball down, bent down and put the ball on the floor initiating the contact with his off shoulder. Even though Fisher was in the air, Barry initiated the contact, and he shot, after the contact. Good call!!
Joey Crawford fucked us.
Moron.
It was not Joey Crawford.
Vujacic gets grazed and ends up with 4 points.
Barry gets sat on and gets zilch...

Game 4 - Lakers @ Spurs (Reffing)
Kobe's 0 FTA
Watch the game, the Spurs philosphy is not to foul Kobe, and force him around the perimeter. Half of Kobe's points in the paint came from dunks/break points, and the other half he wasn't fouled on. Kobe drove a few other times, there could have been possible contact on a few of them, but it wasn't something completley crazy, there hasn't been a lot of easy fouls in this series for either team.
Ginobli's final three
His foot was on the line, the score should have been 90 - 93, putting SA in a 3 point hole going into the final poss. (at the very least).
Fisher's shot/24 second violation
Clock should have reset, it clearly hit the rim (clearly on replay that is). This gives the Lakers 2 freethrows (most likely from Kobe) -- odds are Kobe makes at least one of those freethrows, again putting them up by at least 3, but possibly 4 or 5 (depending on the call on Manu's 3).
Barry's last play
He was fouled on the ground, there is no denying that. It should have been two shots (not in act of shooting) - which would tie the game (if none of the other calls went the right way). Otherwise, if the last minute was officiated correctly, Barry two freethrows would not have mattered.
Final:
Lakers made many mistakes down the stretch, what would otherwise should have been a fairly easy victory after only 1:20 or so was left. The Spurs played with heart, but fell short. The better team won tonight.

That was a foul. You KNOW the shooter can initiate contact while the defender is in the air.
Either way, the play shouls have never happened if the refs had reset the clock on Derek's shot...:bang:bang

That's why you are taught not to leave your feet on defense, cause then the other guy bends down puts the ball on the floor and initiates the contact. Its only a no call if the defender jumps straight up which he didn't.

we can't argue prior plays, because Tony totally deserved an and 1 the previous play. All we have is the OBVIOUS FOUL down the stretch.
OT would have settled the game properly, but Joey is God in his mind and he decides how games should end. Whatever, this is nothing a victory Thursday can't cure.
You really are making yourself look like a fool. You should go replay the goaltend, the fish rim touch, and the last call. I agree they last call should have been called a 2 pt free throw if you are in the penalty or out of bounds, IT WAS NOT SHOOTING ANYWAY YOU LOOK AT IT, he dribbled after the contact. Prior to that, Lamar cleanly blocked Parker but it was close and they missed it, i can accept that, you move on. Bad call none the less. The fisher shot DEFINETLY hit the rim. You dont even get the ball if they call that.
Grow up, take your loss, and get ready for game 5. Or quit, go home, and blame everybody but your play for losing.

about the lebron shot: the ref do him a faver with the no call, tha spurs was up 3 and the foul was a 2 shot foul so they give him possibility 3 point shot that was much more better for the cavs
Pause it at .24, his feet was clearly behind the three point line. That foul was even more blatant than Fisher's. If the refs aren't going to bail Lebron out in the end, they definitely won't bail out Brent Barry.

Tony got fouled the previous play, so what's your point? both the foul on Tony and Fisher's shot were not obvious to the oppossing side. The foul on Barry was a joke. However, LA deserves major props for the game they played. they did what they needed to do, I just wish Joey Crawford didn't think he was God. Lakers don't deserve any of the taint, but the NBA does.

The whole "let the players decide the game" shit is BS.
If that foul was called, the game was not won because "the ref decided the game". It would have been because FISH made a stupid defensive play and because BARRY made FT's. The ref would have been doing his JOB, to make the right calls. The ref never decides to the game, the players always do, by fouling, making shots, missing shots, etc.
Until a ref randomly comes out says "hmm....i'll say........[insert nba team here] win game!, refs do not decide the winner.

From a Spurs fan
I've come down off my momentary tilt and the call isn't the reson the Spurs lost the game. Fish's shot did hit the rim. So they got their break at that point.
More importantly they had plenty of chances and made a lot of mistakes at crucial junctures. Theyd didn't get much from anyoen but Tim, Tony, Bowen and Barry. They just need more from Manu especially and from Finley Udoka and Horry as well.
Offensive rebounds killed this team tonight right down to the bitter end..

Why do the refs stay on the court if they shouldn't call fouls at the end of the game?
As to the "we would have beaten the fatigued spurs" excuses, the ref calls the foul, the players have to make free throws, the game isn't decided before they play.

Both Pop and Berry both admitted that it was a good no call. Plus the ball had hit the rim (clearly from the replay) on the possession before when Fish shot it and the Refs missed that, forcing us to hoist up a desperation shot.
The guys on TNT all agreed that this was a good non call.
There were many poor calls on the Lakers tonight as a whole (and some on the Spurs too).
Spurs were 7-24(29.2%) from behind the arc. Lakers could have won the first half by at least 12-14 points but the referees kept the spurs in game with some BS calls.

Manu Ginobili: "I don't know. It's hard to tell. I haven't watched it yet. It was kind of a close call."
"But we ran a good play - Kind of knew Kobe was going to switch on the screen on Brent - but Fisher had to make a great read coming from the weak side, all the way from Michael Finley on the other side. It kind of bothered him in taking that shot, so it was a good read, and I think it was a good play, too."

And Fishers shot clearly hit the rim.
It didn't "clearly" hit the rim until everyone watched on Youtube a dozen times. You can't expect the refs to make that call.
What clearly happened is that this game ended tainted because there was clearly a foul that wasn't called on the final play that could have tied not only the game but the series. Yes, it was not automatic Barry would have hit 2 free throws or that the Spurs would have won in overtime, but you let the players decide the game. That should be expected.
Pop and his players take a no excuses attitude into each new game (Tim played with 103 fever and wouldn't admit it).
For anyone to say that this is just whining or should be dropped immediately by Spurs fans or other NBA fans is simply ridiculous.

Do you realize the complexion of the game would've completely changed if they made the right call on that possession. Spurs would be forced to foul and most likely down by 4 with approximately 3 seconds left. Refs did not decide this game. Spurs lost.

Do you realize that you are assuming that the Spurs would have been down by 4? What if only one free throw was knocked down? Then the Spurs would have had an extra second (maybe two) on their possession. Do you realize Pop may have called a different play with an extra second? As we all know, a lot can happen in a second (and .4 apparently).

The Spurs were CLEARLY outplayed and couldn't hit shots when it mattered. I won't dispute that. Had Barry taken a shot and missed with no contact on the play, I'd be ok with that. I can take a loss, but not like that.

Gasol's missed free throws which would have put LA up by 8 or 9 pts, Kobes stupid decision to go for a layup that early in the shot clock, are a few of the reasons why the spurs were even fortunate enough to be in this position.
If a few of those brain farts dont happen, this game ends with the Lakers winning by 7-10 points and the spurs not even being in this situation.

You can't complain about the refs when they gave you several calls in your favor to even put you in that position. That's pure hypocrisy.
this is where you're out of your freakin mind. We can argue all day that Odom went over Tims back and Brent somehow got a phantom call or that Fish's shot hit the rim, or that Tony deserved an and1 (you say it was a clean block which makes you an idiot), but the fact is that Brent was obviously fouled on the last play to decide the game.
The only point i will concede is that the best team will win a 7 games series. Feel better?

This crap is deja vu. After the .4 debacle, the Laker fans were saying "yeah bad call but there should have been .8 on the clock".
When a game comes down to one final call, that's the call to look at. You can start back tracking to try to even it up. Barry got fouled. Crawford didn't blow the whistle. Game over.

We got a gift with that call that scored the two to make us down two.
The ball hit the rim and the refs called shot clock violation anyways and gave us the ball.
We got a gift.
Derek Fisher fouled Barry on the last shot of the game. He should not have to sell the foul to get it called. But it wasn't called.
A gift to the Lakers.
They offset each other.
I know Crawfish screwed us in Game 5 against NOH.
But he didn't do shit tonight other than let contact at the rim go with Duncan in the final 5 mins.
Spurs couldn't rebound, as usual Manu went to sleep. And Parker is just a here-there type player now. We lost so get over it.

OK, forget the fact that Fisher made contact, obviously Barry traveled first anyway:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWiw60NusOY
Not to mention that in the last minute alone you got a bogus goaltending call on Parker's layup, a 3 pointer by Manu where his foot was clearly on the line and then a bizarre no call when Fisher's shot with 5 seconds left hit the rim.
If that is called correctly, the clock is reset and you have to foul (most likely Kobe) and are down most likely 4 points or 3 points minimum with maybe 2 or 3 seconds left.
There is no way you can honestly believe the officials favored the Lakers tonight, does anyone really believe that? It was a biased fix job in your team's favor for the first 47 mins and 57 seconds of the game.
And Barry does travel, watch the video link above and tell me that isn't traveling.

It's weak. They know there were so many calls that were missed at the end to get the Spurs in that position. Refs favored the Spurs for majority of the game just to keep the score close. Every time Lakers made a run, Lakers would get handicapped on defense by ticky tack touch fouls. The worst part is, they got away with the EXACT same thing with Bowen last year yet no one of them will admit it.

In looking at the replay, it was a two shot foul on Fisher (Lakers were in the Penalty), and this "selling the foul" stuff is just stupid on the part of the TNT guys - they are better than that, but in the end those guys work for the league. Fisher hit Barry from above coming down because he got fooled by Barry's ball fake on the play. And Joey C swallows his whistle.
The ABC/ESPN announcers were all beside themselves when LeBron James did not get a call at the end of game 3 of the 07 finals with much less contact. On this one, Barry should have "sold it more"? Please. It's an obvious foul. The no call then prevents Barry from getting a clean look at a game winning shot.
How ironic it is that the play determining the Spurs 07-08 season in all likelihood is determined by Joey Crawford looking on as Derek Fisher fouls Barry?
Bill Simmons from the ESPN website predicted this very scenario before the playoffs even began - the Spurs getting hosed on a game ending "no call" play and Joey Crawford (of all people) is the official making the "non-call". Barry had no chance to even lauch an accurate shot because the defender ran into him.
The Spurs have a contentious history with Crawford. In the 2006 playoffs against the Mavericks (Game 3 I think), Joey Crawford calls a foul with less than 24 seconds left in the game when Dirk Nowitski steps on Tim Duncan's PLANTED foot. The last year the infamous "I'll throw you out because you are laughing on the bench" call against Duncan. Joey gets suspended for the playoffs with his ridiculous behavior. And of course in 2006, the officials did NOT swallow their whistles in game 7 with Dirk N getting a foul call on Ginobili.
Why does the NBA put itself in this position in the first place? It's human nature to hold a grudge against someone when something bad happens to you like what happened to Crawford last year when he lost his mind. The NBA in its infinite wisdom assigns Joey Crawford to this key game. Joey blows the end of game call that was pretty apparent.
The Spurs got a raw deal on this one. Barry should have received two free throws and a chance to tie the game (which is no guarantee, an OT would have occurred only if he made them both). All the other calls or non calls in the game may or may not have determined the outcome. This play DID determine the outcome without question and Joey Crawford blew it again. This guy has a freakin record of criminal tax evasion (underreporting income by selling first class airline tickets years ago) in his past, so his integrity and judgement on and off the court comes into question.
I'm sure the most of the Laker people will throw out the sour grapes card since they are more interested in getting to the finals than this Joey Crawford stuff. The NBA will be happy the Spurs (in all likelihood) will be eliminated from the finals.
Piston fans be very concerned. They will stick to you too.

You are one of the more reasonable posters here.
The goaltend play was really a close call. But a Laker fan slowed down the video to snail speed and Odom did contact the ball just before it hit the backboard. Thus, it should not have been called a goaltend.
However, that play happened at a very fast speed and was so close it had to be slowed down electronically to tell for sure.
The official who made that call? Joey Crawford. Hmmm.
Fisher's shot did hit the rim, actually fairly obviously. Again, from the overhead camera view it cannot even be debated. So I don't know what in the world the refs were thinking on that one, just a horrible missed call at the most crucial time of the game. Lakers would have been able to likley inbound the ball to Kobe and Spurs would have been forced to foul.
And I have to mention that Ginobili's late three also should have been a two as his foot was clearly on the line. So that is three blown missed calls in your team's favor in just the last minute!
Barry's travel was at least as obvious as Fisher's foul and you are in fantasy land to think a ref is going to call that 35 feet from the basket to decide the game. Although I am surprised Crawford didn't actually, he was fixing so hard all game for SA that would have been the final cherry on the cake.

I'll take that as you either didn't view the video link I posted or somehow don't think Barry moved both feet before dribbling.

If it is any consolation, I thought the Lakers were very fortunate (even lucky) to win Game 1 so this series could easily be 2-2 right now.
That's why I wanted the Hornets all along, I knew this series would be a very hard fought one as the Spurs have a lot of competitive players who don't quit.

ROFL @ A Laker Fan who thinks the NBA conspires against the Lakers. I think that's the definition of lunacy in the dictionary. Every year the Lakers don't win the championship, that costs the NBA hundreds of millions of dollars.
The NBA isn't rigged. But to anyone who thinks it is or ever was rigged against the Lakers is in desperate need of a reality check. If there's one team in sport that can be confident that the refs aren't trying to make them lose, it's the Los Angeles Lakers. When the commissioner comes out and says he wishes every Finals could be Lakers vs. Lakers, that's when it's time to retire the tin hat.

Harry, did you think Barry moved both feet prior to dribbling?
Yes or no? Yes. The movement of his feet is MUCH more difficult to pick up than an opposing player RUNNING INTO YOU.
And did you think the layup attempt by Parker was a goaltend?
Yes or no? Yes.
Did you think Fisher's shot with 5 seconds left hit the rim?
Yes or no? Did not see it.The answer key is as follows: Yes, No, Yes
Barry's play was the determining factor. He was fouled. At full speed it is extremely difficult to see the feet especially with Fisher initiating contact. Once again, for the third time, when the Spurs try to defend their title, an official's action or inaction clearly INFLUENCES the outcome.

Thank you for your response. In real time, I didn't notice the travel at first either and the goaltending call was so close that it could have gone either way....unfortunately for my team it went the wrong way but that one I could understand.
But missing the ball hitting the rim or Manu's foot being on the line is fishy. It just seems three refs should be able to see things that obvious.
Considering the Lakers never trailed in the game, I think it is a bit hard for the Spurs fans to feel too outraged about it, it isn't like the game was back and forth with a lot of lead changes or anything.....have a good evening.

Every year the Lakers don't win the championship, that costs the NBA hundreds of millions of dollars.
No it doesn't.
I know you are a small town guy so maybe it is hard to face the facts.
The facts are the NBA has already made their money, no matter what two teams play in the Finals or what team wins a championship. They don't make any more money if the Memphis Grizzlies win the Championship or if the NY Knicks do.
The people who do make more money is the owners who get additional playoff games and the network ad guys who sell tv ads.
But the NBA itself makes it's money on the TV contract, not on who wins the title. You could argue if it gets too boring (Spurs-Cavs finals, Spurs-Pistons finals, etc) that they will make LESS money at the NEXT contract negotiation, but that is still a hard sell considering the money goes up and up every time.
So to make a statement like the one I quoted above is not intelligent. But I know you are smarting from the game tonight, imagine how bad a loss that would have been for the Lakers after leading the entire game and then you might know what true basketball pain really is.
Either way, I would be ecstatic if Joey Crawford not only never officiated any more Spurs games, but no longer officiated ANY NBA games going forward. Controversy and bad calls follow this guy around.
Barry did travel by the way and the refs did miss THREE other calls all in your team's favor in the last minute before that play. But I think you already knew that right?

i dont care what happened before or what calls were made or not made or missed or whatever
THAT LAST PLAY WAS A FOUL ---- A FOUL. PERIOD
you call that 1 minute into the game or 47 minutes into the game. It should not matter.
YOU ARE A REF with NO AGENDA, NEUTRAL, there for the sake of the teams, players and fans who paid to see a basketball game, not you.
You call fouls because it was a foul NOT BECAUSE you DON'T want to bail someone out, thats nowhere in the rule book .
IT DOESN'T MATTER, shouldn't matter.
You are there to call a match neutral with no stake in the outcome. Either way, road or home.
TNT says, "the shooter didnt sell it" and "they don't call those at the end of the game"
A shooter needs to "act and sell it" in order to get a foul called? But then now, you try to "sell it" and they penalize you for flopping...
Why not just whisper into the players ear like the WWE refs do when they need to pass instructions?
This is sad that all playoff games have some sort of REF drama and presence. Since 2000 when the Lakers came into the national scene with the Shaq and Kobe team.
Too many times we worry who the next refs will be, that shouldn't be the case, EVER.
This is about the game and about the players, not about the Refs.
A FOUL IS A FOUL and that was corrupt and personal by Crawford.
Sasha got a touch foul 3 pointer and 1, while this play by Barry is not a foul?
If the same play was made at Minute 25, it would of been called a foul, why not in the end? The rulebook gives no time limits on certain fouls.
Gimmie a Break.
Kobe would of gotten that call, I BET ANYTHING HE WOULD been given that foul.
Combine all this with the other game where the Celtics got close to 40 FT and still lost to Detroit.
The fix is in this year more than ever.
A year with dropped ad revenue, attendance and ratings.
BOSTON vs. LAKERS = huge interest from all markets.
Oh how I wish the NBA treated and ran the refs like MLB does with it's umpires.
In baseball, betting on the game or throwing a game is no nonsense serious ever since the 1919 White Soxs, complete with lifetime ban, no bullshit or playing around from the comissioner down.
In the NBA, the refs scandals is business as usual since the league was taken over by Marketing genius David Stern who is there to sell entertainment first, a game second.
The NBA needs international refs , something to clean the game from these biased and agenda driven marketing arms of David Stern.
The NBA needs a committee that is set up independently from the league to monitor questionable games, where there is no fear of retaliation from Stern.
When boxing was being accused of throwing fights, the government stepped in, when Horse Racing was being questioned, an independent panel was created, when MLB was questioned back since the 1900's, harsh punishment came down from the commissioner in order to protect the intregity of the game.
In baseball there is no thought of betting, throwing games and so forth, no one checks for the umpires before the game.
The NBA thought it cleaned up its allegations with an quick press release about Tim Donahue scandal but Stern's rotten apples are still lingering around ready for the next cue.
