Protectionism has always been a thing in the US, in that regard Bernie is probably more liberal than Trump. Europe is also protectionist by its liberal standard except not using importation tax but subvention or regulation so nobody would be choked by his protectionist takes tbh...

I'm pretty sure that even Bernie would be chocked by the level of state intervention in countries like France, Spain or even Germany (here I'm not even talking about northern european countries). As far as I know Bernie proposals for health care, retirement etc... would be seen as right wing radical in Europe compared to the systems in place. Now compared with what exists in US thats a big step forward.

You have also the protection system for unemployed people and the system to avoid people to be fired... I'm pretty sure Bernie stance on that are quite right wing compared to European view...

wasn't bernie's healthcare proposal basically among the most generous on the planet? including dental and child care in there, etc. i just dont see how specifically it adds up to him being right wing (or radical right) in europe . i think thats a meme... suggesting that while he might seem "radical left" here he's pretty standard in europe
