KCP to Orlando is a surprise to me (I thought Philly or Denver) but it’s a great signing for Magic exactly what they need shooting at the 2.

Good for Spurs too as it keep the Magic firmly in that top 8 group and separates them from the Hawks even more.

Can’t see the Hawks being close to anyone in the top 8 in the East from this season.
I’m hoping Charlotte can bring back Bridges, and the Raptors can get a solid piece in a trade (Cam Johnson maybe) then they too will have a solid group they can bear out the Hawks and push them down further into the bottom 5 in the East.

Ah yes, the casual hate for Zach (and any Spur flavor of the month for that matter) blinding commonssense. It’s not about Zach so much as the Bucks having 1) to cut money, and 2) little ways to inject youth into their roster. That has value to these capped out teams, which should be ruthlessly exploited, as in here by the spurs 1) by moving off a bad deal, and 2) picking up a small asset.
Bucks have neither firsts nor seconds to trade through 2030. The most they could offer is a 31 swap in the first or a 31 second

I find it hard to believe they to that for a much worse player

Harden deal is a player option year 2. Fascinating how Harden has essentially turned into a guy on very expensive one-year deals.
Honestly, isn’t that about how long he stays anywhere? He’s like the Larry Brown of players.

They should call the Spurs front office then.

it, I’d take Lavine if they’re going to drop protections and give us another first (preferably 2029). It’s not like we’re ever going to need the cap space for anything else.
Not a LaVine fan but for that I’d do it. He’d be a fine place holder for two years. If he rehabs his game then he’s tradable in that final year and still at a reasonable age if we resign.

That capital would be well worth it.

Whispers are that he's roundly disliked, a religious freak Candace Owens-fan type.
Like Aaron Rogers but without the success?

I'm not as high on it as consensus. The Magic needed not just shooting, but play making to boost their sub par offense. Now even if they get it, it won't be in a starter/closer.

I’m not sure he’s actually worth it ($150MM for two first round picks is steeeeeeeeep)… but I don’t think the Spurs get too concerned about proper valuation of assets these days, instead they just fixate on what they want and pull the trigger.

As much fun as it is discussing Lavine trades, I don't buy the reports of them attaching a first rounder. Trying to dump for savings with a potential expiring Chris Paul? Sure.

But they're not burning picks if it ends up they're out of the tax and and losing DeRozan. Easier to sucker the paying casuals to just waste time with Lavine and enjoy the lottery picks

I’d also take the Lavine deal to drop the 25 protections to unprotected and a future unprotected first out in 2029 or something. Would also send them back Collins to reduce the net $ hit. Lavine has $135m over 3 years remaining ($155m with the 15% trade kicker I think). Collins has $35m left over next 2 years. Spurs are in theory paying $120m over three years for two unprotected picks.

    It’s a lot still

Whether the deal is viable depends on how productive Lavine can be over the next 3 years.

SpursTalk: Devin Vassell is wildly overpaid.
SpursTalk: Zach Lavine, a ballhogging chucker who his team is desperate to get rid of is a good placeholder at twice as much.

SpursTalk: Goddamn it we traded a mediocre pick for an unprotected first and a swap. What kind of deal was that??
SpursTalk: We should buy a first round pick for one hundred and fifty million dollars.

OKC landing Hartenstein would be nasty. They'll be the biggest obstacle for us during the next decade with just how much better their coaching staff/front office is tbh.
Wemby sonned Hartenstein in the most recent game, and fouled him out in the 4th.

Tired: Spurs should wisely use their cap space and assets to improve the team

Wired: Spurs should plan for the far future before worrying about the more immediate future

Inspired: Spurs should value future picks above all else and do any and everything that adds more picks to the war chest

Theres context as well. Spurs by doing the Lavine trade aren’t functionally trading much if any flexibility in cap space. The trade boils down more to are you willing to trade Keldon for what could be pick 4-10 in 25’-27’ drafts?

Because in my scenario the money in the first two years for Lavine vs Keldon/Collins isnt enough of a difference to materially matter in most cases if SA is operating as a cap space team.

If you're buying Zach Lavine's contract for $150 million freaking dollars for a draft pick, then that's $150 million freaking dollars you can't use for anything else. This... this isn't hard.

Again, I get y'all are ing desperate for anything to happen - although the team has made it abundantly clear they aren't making huge deals yet - but please, for God's and Satan's ing sake, try to make any semblance of sense. It would take multiple FRPs to make Lavine make sense and then you're boxing yourself out of improving anything for three years.

Dude, I often feel bad for how much people attack you on this forum. I still feel bad because I know how vicious ST can be when people feel permitted to be their worst. But the man? The point of a forum is to have stupid ideas. We're not the team's board of directors. We're just chodes online shooting the .
