You have probably read this passage many times.
James 14 - 17
"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. "
Quoting passages from the Bible will get us nowhere because, to the uneducated reader, there seems to be many contradictions (just like the one I pointed out) and many ways to interpret it.
To bridge these so called contradictions and different interpretations, we Catholics believe there is an en y that has been around for 2000 years, the RCC, which we can go for guidance; you Protestants believe that the Holy Spirit helps you interpret the Bible.
Also, for further understanding and interpretation of the Bible, we believe in consulting the people who knew Christ, or the people who knew the people who knew Christ. We do this through these people's writings. Protestants do not adhere to this belief.
