I've liked Taylor's show so far, but being a big time Cowboys homer probably has something to do with that. He has Mickey on every week, T. Newman on weekly, so it's great to get an up close look at what's going on with the Cowboys (also enjoy Wade on the am show, although he's not the most stimulating guy to listen to).

My only gripe with Taylor's show is that they get too caught up at times with talking to each other and not talking with listeners, also knowledge about UT sports is fairly limited. Overall I would give them about a 8.6 on a scale of 1-10.
Great points. As I mentioned before, Taylor has good contacts from his days here in Dallas. This type of inside information enhances his show. I highly doubt that it could be provided by anyone else in the San Antonio market. He's be a fool not to capitalize on that. Personally, he does a real good job on Cowboys coverage, as a whole.

It's is the Spurs coverage where I feel he needs some work. I'd like to see more inside information, particularly from local beat reporters, coaches, and NBA insiders, etc. If he takes the same thorough approach with the Spurs, as he does with the Cowboys, the show would be excellent.

I also wish they'd tone down the sop ric humor a bit. However, I've come to the realization that that stuff sells in many markets. Don't know why. If had my way, I'd just prefer the sports.

I don't know Taylor, but have listened to him for years in the Dallas area. He seems like a good guy and is extremely knowledgeable. Whether that comes across consistently to the masses - I don't know. I think everyone should separate constructive criticism from the personal criticism. I've been guilty of that on ocassion too. The chatter should be business, it should never be personal.

Actually I said it twice before, even as long as 2 1/2 years ago when you went to your first ST gtg. The only reason I picked Andy was he was the only underrated sports person that had no Spurs show on the ticket and he will also let you have some mic time.
Vex,Walter,Don Harris,David C,and Charlie Parker like to be the main focus of all shows and will not let you finish your bit,or your points you may want to elaborate on.

It would be cool to hear you and Dawn do a show. or maybe you and Chris Duel.

I have heard Mike interview George Hill and Manu. Both interviews were some of the most boring and bad interviews I have ever heard. No substance whatsoever. The guy does not know too much about Spurs or basketball.

If he had a show on the Ticket to talk about the Cowboys for about one hour, that would be cool. Other than that, not so much.

Maybe they need a topic wheel it has Spurs, cowboys,or other on it. Where it lands they do a show that hour.

If it was me, I would make Jim Bob the anchor host Mike as back up, and have them do Taylor Trash every 45 minutes, followed by Jim Bobs basement.

then one hour of nothing but calls.

On a positive note, I do like the "Sports Grind" that comes on @ 6pm for my drive home.
yea...those two brothers at least have valid sports takes. Taylor gets on my nerves w/ the "oh my lorrrrd look @ her..." I feel like im in 8th grade gym class listening to the boys giggle about girls u know what. I'm glad i have a choice.

They could have promoted it big time and he could have the Spurs Coyote baptize him in the San Antonio river. while he puts on a Spurs Jersey and sets on fire a Mark Cuban life sife doll.

    The possibilities are endless.......

Looks like I've made enemies on STSA. Both guys tag teamed me today on the Live Blog. But hey man, if you can't take the heat, get out of San Antonio.

BTW: It says something when the "Producer" of the show bolts early in order to go to his moonlighting gig in San Marcos.

You know, I really didn't except it do go this far, but I got an detailed email from Taylor himself regarding this post. I wasn't gonna post it, but he said it was cool so here it is:

    A-Rod,

Hey man you didn't make any enemies with me or JB. You can say whatever you want whenever you want. Unless we get thousands of emails saying the same thing we can't take complaints too seriously. I didn't tag team you on the blog. I gave my side. I must feed what the majority wants. I can't worry about hundreds when I'm trying to cater to thousands. I don't normally respond to this kind of stuff but you've been a long time emailer and I hate to lose you. I have gotten far worse feedback from people and it's part of my gig. I expect it. In fact, if we're not pissing some people off we're not doing the job. I disagree that the only outlet you had was on spurstalk.com. You know my email address.

For the record: I read some of the chat sites from time to time. I was made aware of this one and I was thoroughly entertained for the most part. That's what Kori's site is about right? You will never, ever see me post on a chat site. Ever. I have a 3 hour outlet everyday. I think it's unbecoming of a host to go on a chat site and pander to the people. It's also not cool. Reeks of paranoia and comes off thin skinned. You won't succeed for very long in my business being like that. You certainly won't be very successful. Jim Bob knows how I feel about this. It's my opinion. Tell the people on spurstalk.com that I have no ill will. None. Also tell them that the picture of that generic red neck idiot cowboy picture isn't me but looks very much like one of my dead uncles. Hilarious. Ah , go ahead and copy this email on there if you wish. Consider it a very rare appearance on there by me.

    Go basketball. Taylor..

Ok, a couple of side notes: 1st: "I can't worry about hundreds when I'm trying to cater to thousands." I think this thread proved that it's not just hundreds. This is just the online voice.

2nd: "I disagree that the only outlet you had was on spurstalk.com. You know my email address." Yeah I do Mike. And I've tried emailing you about this subject but to no avail. Again, it's not personal, but it's obvious you don't care about the Spurs.

    LOL @ the appearance

Just a comment on this whole thread... There's been plenty of radio bashing threads in this forum over the years - from bashing Vexler to Chancellor to Pasacrita to Charlie Parker to the Thompsons to now, Mike Taylor and Chris Duel. I always laugh when I read the threads complaining, "Every single day he ..." That means you are listening, every single day. So they must be doing something right because you are tuning in.

I honestly don't listen to sports radio that much. I used to listen to Game Night React a lot. I always listened to the Pop Show, but other than that ... not much. But I know radio isn't easy and I know you aren't going to please everyone.

For every person in here who bashes the current radio hosts, there are hundreds of people out there who are tuning in and enjoying their shows. If there aren't, then won't get any ratings and they'll be gone soon enough. Mike, though he's a Dallas guy, is obviously doing something right because he's improved on the ratings numbers of all the previous STSA hosts. The Cowboys, "holmes" and "puro" talk might bug you ... but you are still listening.

yes we r listening but its trying to pick the lesser of two evils....i switch back and forth from 760/1250...sometimes i just got to put on music......i love sports talk but like when i listen to rome...i can only take so much....we have our pet peeves about taylor but like i said i wish there was more SPURS talk....thats our team and would like to hear more about them. instead of a lopsided show with mostly cowboys, nonsense and a slice of spurs

No dude, that's a misconception. It's called a lack of options. Put STSA up against another local sports talk show that's dominated by Spurs talk, then let's see who gets more listeners. And by the way, I do tune in every day, but most times I have to change the station for big chunks of the show, cause it's soooo boring. They spent an hour yesterday on Longhorn coaches talk.

Here is where I'll disagree with Mike a little bit. He believes that it's unbecoming of a host to hop on a message board and pander to the people, as he thinks it comes across as paranoid and thin skinned.

I take all the good and bad posted here. There are people that hate my show, and there are others that like it. I know that you aren't supposed to be swayed but posters, but truthfully, I think we live in an info age, that message boards provide instant feedback.

It's hard to ever get a true gauge on if people like a show. The radio ratings method is a joke. Friends and Family aren't going to ever give honest feedback, and a program director rarely will sit a host down unless its a major major issue.

The difference is that Duel, Taylor, Charlie Parker....etc. They are professional broadcasters. Their broadcasting skill level is much higher than mine, because that's what they have grown up doing, and they have the training and background. So, they don't need or want the feedback, they've been taught to do the best show they can.

Me on the other hand, as many of you know, I'm just a sports fan, that got an opportunity to be on-air. I like the feedback. If a person posts that I talk over listeners too much. I'll make a note, and try to work on it. If people want to hear more Spurs, then I'll try to work it in the show more. Call it pandering if you want, but to me, it's the audience reaching out. And if I can use that feedback to make a better show product, then I think everyone wins.

Oh well, different strokes for different folks. But I will say, Taylor is damn good host, and I'm proud to have him anchoring our afternoons for a long time coming.
