This was a good trade for the Celtics, from a long-term perspective, and it won't be a significant downgrade for this season, if they sign Rasheed, they won't lose anything IMO..

I've been one of the biggest Green haters since he was drafted, so I'm not high on him, but he might learn a thing or 2, playing with KG, Pierce, Allen and playing for Doc Rivers..he still has some potential, he gives the Celtics some athleticism..I don't think much of him at all, but at least he gives them a different dimension..

Perkins is a great screen setter, a great 1 on 1 defender and a very good team defender..however, he doesn't look the same since his injury, he's a horrible offensive player, and he's undoubtedly going to get overpaid..any team that overpays Kendrick Perkins is foolish, and Boston avoided it..he has injury concerns, and he's never going to develop any offensive ability, he's not worth the $ that he's going to get..he's going to get more than what Brendan Haywood got(depending on the CBA, obviously), which is too much, especially as the NBA continues to get faster..

Rasheed only playing for half a season will give you most of what Perkins gives you, especially since Perkins may not be fully recovered from injury, and you don't have to pay Perkins, from a long-term perspective..they're both mediocre offensive players, but Rasheed will still give you very good post D, he knows the system, and he has experience, he'll be fine..

Krstic is a solid bench big man..
This is a terrible trade for the Celtics, both in the interim and long term. They'll have a difficult time replacing Perkins long term. Short term, they're relying on O'Neal, the oldest, heaviest player in the league, who happens to have more wear and tear on his body than any active player, to man the middle. The other O'Neal may not be able to come back this season and if he does, it's anyone's guess as to what he'll be able to give them. Krstic is the other option in the middle, but he's not a shot blocker/rebounder type.

The problem with Green is that he won't be more than a 20-24 mpg, 7th - 8th man for the Celtics, so they won't get a ton of use out of him. I'm wondering if Pierce is more injured than they're letting on?

Whether Perkins eventually get's overpaid or not is irrelevant (as is his current play to an extent, obviously anyone would need time coming off that type of injury to work off the rust, particularly a 280 pound lumbering C), this was most likely the Celtics last chance at glory and they probably just threw it away for a guy who's upside is as a mediocre starting SF or a good 6th man. There goes their main advantage over the Magic, their quality depth of big defenders to throw at the Spurs and their ability to match-up with the Lakers period.

Even if Wallace returns, I doubt he's in great shape and he's not a true C. It's fine to play him their for stretches, but going forward, can his out of shape, follow prone ass be counted on to guard Howard/Bynum/Duncan for roughly 30 mpg? Because they may need him for that.

The current version of Perkins isn't the same as Perkins of the last 2 years..he has looked ty since returning from injury..the Celtics have been worse when Perkins is on the floor, his +/- impact has been in the negative..it's possible that he might need some time to get back into rhythm, but it's also possible that his injury problems will take it's toll..

Either way, the Celtics just got some value, before overpaying him in Free Agency..

The Celtics' D has been in the top 3 all season, even when Perkins was out..

LOL at ppl thinking Rasheed will make a difference if he comes back. Hes probably so fat & out of shape right now. Danny Ainge better hire some extra security in Boston lmao. The celtics are gonna be even worse at rebounding now. Spurs/OKC second round es! Cant wait for the playoffs to start.

I totally agree. This team has an amazing history of moves since Ainge. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

It's because the Celtics needed the Bonner stopper in Jeff Green. They saw how he played him last night and decided they had to have him.

Good trade for OKC thought. Their interior defense just got a whole lot better.

Honestly who cares if this trades makes the Cs better 2 or 3 yrs down the line. This team is on its last wheels as far as championship aspirations go...they should be worrying about the present not the future. Who cares if Perk wouldve jetted in the off-season, you take that risk if it means the difference between winning a championship or not. Injury rust or not, Sheed still wont be able to bring what Perkins brought to the table. If we thought Sheed was fat and lazy last season I can only imagine what kind of shape he's in right now after 8 months away from basketball.

Honestly... wtf? Perkins is a great defender, and another big body in the paint... and you trade him (and Nate, who can make dumb decisions but can also make some shots) for Green and Krstic?

Really? Are you just giving up this season? Wtf is the reasoning?

Hey Wigga man... you ready to bow down at the Koolaid alter yet... u best be changing your sig now... I told your silly ass he wasn't worth ...like I said before:

    Ratliff > Perkins

Playoff basketball isnt like the regular season. It slows down & Perkins was one of the only players that could defend players like Dwight 1 on 1. Now they have a 40 year old injured Shaq & Kristic.

But Perkins did look slower since coming back. It would of probably taken him too long to get back into good shape again. Green doesnt scare anyone though, he makes a lot of boneheaded plays & Kristic icant match up with real bigs.

    Random thoughts....

    a) Jeff Green was one of a few players in the west who willingly bent over when facing the lakers...(others are D.Williams, Peja, Boozer,Atlanta Hawks) so this is good for the west...

    b) Celtics just realized that the Spurs are dominant with a new style of offense and will try to compete with the Bulls, Heat & Magic in this way ...

    c) I wouldn't put it past Doc Rivers to turn Jeff Green's career around the way he did with Perkins...remember...Perkins was in no way rated better than Al Jefferson and it killed Doc to lose Al J. ...but he turned Perk into a serviceable big...

    d) Lakers and Celtics fans are getting their panties in a twist over nothing...because they were never gonna meet again this year anyway.

Don't be so sure. The Heat are in desperate need of a Center, MORE SO than Boston.

It was not for "no reason"

It was because they were going to lose Perkins no matter what in the off-season. So they traded him now to get some value and see if they can sign Troy Murphy or some other guys who get bought out.

It's not a terrible plan, but it definitely is a gamble and makes them a weaker team in the short term.
