I am 100% against this trade. I have accepted the fact that the season is over for the Celts. A weak old/crappy set of bigs makes this team much weaker on D. Kristic is a piece of . Shaq is too injury prone. Sheed? As a 5th big, yeah. As a 1-2 big, no. Plus I doubt he will return knowing he will be relied on.

I also don't care much for Jeff Green. Yay so he is going to give the celts some depth at the 3. BFD.

The Celts went from being the top dog in the east to now a team with the ceiling of telling Miami good luck in the finals.

As much as I hate you guys what he brought to the Celtics was wonderful to behold on an objective level. Very rarely does that happen. Ainge is reckless to walk away from it before seeing it to it's natural culmination.

Rondo is another one of those of value. That they frittered with him during the contract was dangerous, but, it came out to perfection.

Not so with Perkins. You must feel sick in the pit of your stomach.

I agree with everything but the last part. This doesn't take the Celtics out of contention, as far as making the Finals goes. They can still beat the Heat. Only now, the task got tougher.

What is with the mass exodus, though? Daniels, Erden and Harangody? They're down to twelve players and at least one of them is out right now. Even if they pluck a vet or two after the buyout period, their depth has been decimated. I'm skeptical that J. O'Neal will be able to give them anything. Bradley is too raw to be in the playoff rotation and Wafer too erratic. So they're looking at a nine man rotation featuring the core four starters, presumably S. O'Neal will start and that leaves Davis, Green, West and Krstic off the bench.

Barring a catastrophic injury, I will not rule them out (nor the Spurs, Lakers or Heat). But I must say, before this trade I still didn't have them beating the Spurs in the Finals, but I had it at almost a 50/50 proposition. Now, I look at it more like 60/40 Spurs.

You also got to factor in the chemistry aspect. Already, there's reports that the Celtics' vets are furious.

If they can't get Murphy or coax Wallace out of retirement, I think they'll probably bring back Powe, after he's inevitably bought out. If Ford's bought out, I could see them bringing him in, too. Kapono and Head are other options, if bought out. But if they're healthy, none will crack the playoff rotation.

Am I the only one to think it's actually a good trade for Boston ?
Warm to the idea. The Celtics were playing pretty damn good when Perkins was out, I reckon they felt they had some redundancy at that position that could be dealt.

Pierce and Allen aren't spring chickens - Allen especially, although he's having a good year he needs 12 screens to get open.

I think this move make the Celtics more dangerous, we'll see how they gel together in the remainder of the season.

And Perkins screens help greatly in that area, we'll see if Krstic learns the art of the moving screen. Even if he does, I highly doubt he'll ever be able to do it as well as KG and Perk. And what about the toughness Perk brings? How will that be replaced, the guy is just a bully. Him and KG compliment each other for that reason. Krstic is the kind of guy KG hates, a soft euro player. And now, he'll have to team up with him. KG and the other Celts can't be happy about this.

Perkins' contract is up after this season, and he's already rejected an extension offer from Boston.

I guess Ainge finally gave up on getting him to stay at the price they wanted.

Ouch, good point. I forgot that Perkins is a master of the moving screen. No worries, I'm sure the Doc will explain the wonders of Boston Garden's infamous no-call zone, aka Moving Screen Arena.

Quite the clowning around... You act like giving up a surplus big and back up point gaurd who give the Celts a little scoring punch and nothing more for a premium scorer in Green and a decent role player of the bench in Krstic. Typical fan to say you hate the trade when deep down inside you love it. Boston doesn't lose much at all, but they gain some definite scoring punch. It deepens the entire roster.
    Premium scorer? Define premium...

And yes, we lacked depth when Marquis went down. But now we lack depth at center, so that's not really a good workaround in my eyes.

This was a good trade for the Celtics, from a long-term perspective, and it won't be a significant downgrade for this season, if they sign Rasheed, they won't lose anything IMO..

I've been one of the biggest Green haters since he was drafted, so I'm not high on him, but he might learn a thing or 2, playing with KG, Pierce, Allen and playing for Doc Rivers..he still has some potential, he gives the Celtics some athleticism..I don't think much of him at all, but at least he gives them a different dimension..

Perkins is a great screen setter, a great 1 on 1 defender and a very good team defender..however, he doesn't look the same since his injury, he's a horrible offensive player, and he's undoubtedly going to get overpaid..any team that overpays Kendrick Perkins is foolish, and Boston avoided it..he has injury concerns, and he's never going to develop any offensive ability, he's not worth the $ that he's going to get..he's going to get more than what Brendan Haywood got(depending on the CBA, obviously), which is too much, especially as the NBA continues to get faster..

Rasheed only playing for half a season will give you most of what Perkins gives you, especially since Perkins may not be fully recovered from injury, and you don't have to pay Perkins, from a long-term perspective..they're both mediocre offensive players, but Rasheed will still give you very good post D, he knows the system, and he has experience, he'll be fine..

Krstic is a solid bench big man..
Fair points. I'm going to discount the one about long-term issues, because really, I want to win this year. I understand the C's are going to go to crap in a year or two; I can begrudingly accept that.

And if Perkins can't fully recover, I understand that too.

But damn it, that starting five has been together since 2007, they won a ring together, and they almost won one last year. It's ing criminal to split them up. And yes, I'm speaking more as a fan than an analyst here.
