So let me get this straight, you made the switch from PC to Mac then found out that Windows is actually what you needed and installed Windows OS on your overpriced Mac hardware?
It was buggy, and so was MacOS 8 & 9 at the time. The Mac didn't have the the slowdown or need a reinstall, but it did have the same crashes and freezes from the lack of memory protection, just like 95/98. XP actually came before OS X, and solved that, which was huge and IMO made it a superior OS at the time.
Sounds like you would not buy a Porsche because it is already great...
instead you would buy a car and try to improve it....

Macs have virtualization too. You can also boot them into other OSes also (including windows).
There's also the fact that, with some tweaks, you can run MacOS X on fairly generic PC hardware too, and you end up with the benefits of both worlds: A cheap, upgradable system and the niceties of what MacOS X brings.
Then again, if you're comfortable with your Windows, what's the point?
One regard that I prefer Macs is the efficiency of starting the computer. With my Dell PC, it takes a while to be able to begin using the computer from the time I start it or open it back up out of a "hibernate" or "sleep" mode. With a Mac, there's very little wait time at all; you just open the damn thing and start using it. This is a pain in the ass that influences me to keep my computer on for much longer periods of time. It's sort of a stupid thing to about since this effect can only waste a tiny amount of time out of my day, but it's still a frequent inconvenience. I hate when I just shut my PC (putting it in sleep mode) and realize there was one thing I forget to check before I leave for work or class, like the weather or location of a meeting, etc. With my busy schedule I usually leave my place to make me exactly on time. If I had a Mac, none of this would matter.
I don't know how much this has changed with more recent models from typical companies like Dell since I bought mine about 3 years ago. But it's not like I bought some bum ass machine, my Dell is on the high end for performance and the price was comparable to a Mac.
So the hardware used in Macs never experience any failures, no issues?
If they fail you send it in because you cannot fix it. I can fix my own . I've not had a PC failure in 10 years, and back when I did it was because I was overclocking the out of things and couldn't cool enough.

Lets see you get 400K miles from your "dependable" car. I get that much from my "non-dependable" trucks, but then I am the dependable one. Machines break, they have flaws, and I find ways to make them work better. I don't just go buy another one.it is like saying that you'd rather have a car that breaks down on you regularly and leaves you stranded...because this makes you a "competent" car owner...while those idiots who drive around in dependable cars are doing so because they are too stupid to fix the car....

You would pay twice the going PC rate for something you feel you don't have to know anything about. On the other hand, I know enough to be self sufficient, so I can build my own if I choose to. Let's see you build your own Mac.
It's like trading in every 35K and keeping a large monthly payment because you are too intimidated by the thought of maintenance on your own vehicle. It's just so easy when you let others do it for you.

Nope. That is not what I said. I do not use only one program, Einstein. I commented on the fact that it is surprising that Windows, for some reason, seemed more stable running under Parallels.
When I started with computers there were no PC's or Macs and the operating systems I used were CPM and Xenix (a form of Unix). I can build my own PC's if I ever had the notion. I briefly considered moving to an open-source platform but really those OS's while perhaps more stable suffer from a lack of consistency in the interface and clunky feel.
Bottom-line is my time is valuable and the Mac lets me get my work done quickly and simply. Please don't tell me you use a PC and do not have problems with it. If that is the case you must be using it as a doorstop.

Might just be the hardware. If you're looking at macbook airs with solid state or flash media then they'll always boot up WAY faster than a machine with a regular old HDD.
Probably. I guess one option is to not be lazy and research my next purchase more thoroughly, or pay one of my computer nerd friends build me a sick ass machine. But that's also why I can justify a Mac for someone like me and also why I actually buy some of silverblk mystix's points in this thread. When it comes to something I use for 4-8 hours daily that will last me years, an extra few hundred bucks doesn't matter at all.
A buddy of mine just upgraded his desktop and one of the things that he did was install a SSD. He told me that the windows portion of the boot up takes lest time than the BIOS' POST. He also mentioned that the windows on sound isn't even finished playing and his computer is already ready to use. Crazy.
Just do research. You can definitely get a windows machine for cheaper but if you like the speed of an SSD I'm not sure how the prices compare. I do think the MacBook air laptops are bad ass though.
and the SS DRIVES are slowly coming down in price...it is definitely a hot technology...
Yeah - pretty awesome when you're not limited by physical movements in a device and can just pretty much operate as fast as the electronics.
Yeah, I told him about it because it was a super saver deal on newegg a couple of weeks ago 64 GB for 59 dollars, but it was a brand we didn't know anything about. He got the itch though and ended up buying a good brand 128 GB for 160. I will start thinking seriously about them when they get to about a buck a gig for a good brand (seeing as I just bought a new laptop, it will just supercharge that ).

Solid State Drives definitely provide a major boost. They're still pricey though.
And you can retrofit those on any Mac/Windoze/Unix.
You don't carry around 3 or 4 huge textbooks in a backpack plus a 6lb laptop though. Next laptop I get will have good specs but a small monitor. I'll just hook it up to one here at home.
Should have majored in CS, math, or physics where all the textbooks from freshman to graduate level are available as .pdfs/.djvus tbh.
Got my Dell laptop working again, now I have one to use for Access and Visio and can do projects for work at my house.
Or Finance and Economics because the concepts are easy as to understand and thus having textbooks is not critical, and your earning potential relative to the amount of effort you need to put in during college is solid.
