We got to get one of Edwards or DGB!
Some recent quotes from DE Hassan Ridgeway at the Army Bowl. He's being sarcastic when asked about recruiting for UT:
"I'm very excited to play with all the other athletes out here," Ridgeway told Orangebloods.com as he checked in to officially begin the Army All-American festivities. "It's a great opportunity. I just [want to] show everyone what I can do. Overall, just want to go out and be me on the field."
"I don't know (if I will recruit for UT at the Army Bowl). I've got no one in mind," stated Ridgeway with a big smile on his face. "Yeah, on my official I did that (with Denton Ryan defensive end Mario Edwards Jr.). Yeah, I thought he might have committed then but wanted to check a couple more schools out."
"I liked watching the defense (in the Holiday Bowl)," said the defensive end with a big grin, a type of grin from a guy that likes to get after the quarterback. "I liked that a lot."
"Just going back down there (on his official visit), looking at it, seeing it and just saying, 'This is what I want to do and there is where I want to go.' Just players. That's what initially did it and that's what did it again," responded Ridgeway when asked what locked him into the Longhorns. "They've always got great players."
We got to get one of Edwards or DGB!
Quotes from LB Tim Cole at the Army Bowl:
"I'm finally here," said the Texas commit. "I've been waiting for this for a while. I'm just ready to showcase myself. I'm just out here to get better and have fun."
"I'm not nervous at all," Cole stated. "I'm not trying to make this game bigger than what it is. It's an honor to be in this game. I just want to go out there and have fun and do what I've been doing all my life."
"Dorial Green-Beckham," responded Cole when asked who he would be recruiting for the Longhorns. "Oh yeah. [I'm] trying to get him to come to Austin. I'm one of those more vocal recruiting types."
"I'm ready to get out on that practice field and hit people," stated the senior.
Damn, I turned on right when they were interviewing Mario Edwards, and just caught last few seconds where he was talking about Texas. Was a long sit down interview, he really seemed well presented. The part I caught he was mentioning how he liked 'family atmosphere' and how they use the defensive line players creatively, but those were only 1-2 sentences I caught. Too bad I just missed his other comments but maybe they will post to ESPN later.
On the Texas recruits at the game -

"We are like a family already," said defensive tackle Malcom Brown (Brenham, Texas/Brenham). "I am real close with all the guys and getting closer every day. This is great for us."

He was talking about Florida State when mentioning that stuff, I wish he was talking about Texas.
My bad, I'm so used to 'family atmosphere' being stated I thought he was most likely talking about Texas. Did he make any interesting comments?

And from article on ESPN some funny quotes on guys going after Edwards:
espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/football/story/_/id/7415770/texas-commits-having-ball-together-armour-all-america-game
"I am working real hard on Mario," Norman said. "I am trying to make sure we get him. I am also working on that dude [Noah] Spence [Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt]. He's a baller."
Spence has already made his pledge to Urban Meyer and Ohio State, and he's not budging. But it's a different story for Edwards. He's committed to Florida State, but there certainly has been some serious talk that he could flip to another school -- and Texas is in that discussion.
"We have to get Mario," Brewer said. "He's from Texas and he's hanging out with everyone from Texas. It would be a good spot for him, and to be honest, I think Texas is in good shape with him."
Its been talked about before but nice to see it in USA Today:

The Marines are sponsoring an event called the Semper Fi Proving Ground Underclassmen Combine this week in Phoenix, AZ. 2013 QB Tyrone Swoopes and 2013 OL JJ Gustafson were two of the bigger names in attendance. Here's a good pic of Swoopes to show you how developed he is for his age:

If Texas misses out on DGB and Edwards are they finished?
Probably so since their decisions will be so close to National Signing Day. I think Hobbs looks like a UT commitment and then the staff could try to steal Coleman from Baylor late if TJ splits for Oregon.

Encouraging update from Hook 'Em 24/7. Even though UT's chances with DE Torshiro Davis aren't great, Mack Brown and Bo Davis plan to do a school and in-home visit this month. The date is unconfirmed at this time. I like that the Horns are going to give it their best effort despite being a longshot.
What is the name of that 2013 OL from Davis HS?? I think that this home visit has something to do with that. Relationships with coaches, politics, and stuff.
I think you're referring to Davis' teammate, 2013 DT Christopher Robinson.

Oh, I always thought they were from the same school but they are just from the same town. I was talking about Josh Thomas. He was teammates with Jermauria Rasco, my bad.

Oh, ok. Yeah, I'm anxious to see how the staff deals with Thomas next month since he claims to already have an offer from Searels, but he's not considered to be as good as any of the Texas prospects. He apparently reps UT all of the time.
Deion Sanders talks about Texas recruits and others:

p.s. its been a quiet day or is everyone back at work??
That's what I was thinking...
Anyway, great article on ESPN on Johnathan Gray. Can't wait to see him on the field next year.

Harsin made "the call" to Bo Wallace!! Seems like Bo Wallace is coming to Austin for an official.

HUGE (and almost unbelievable) news. Just fantastic all the way around. Mack and Harsin aren't f***ing around on this one. Harsin called Wallace tonight and wants him in Austin by this weekend. He's set to visit Indiana tomorrow and then he'll make his way to Baylor shortly after that. It's looking like Saturday could be his official visit to Texas, but he and Harsin will discuss plans in more detail tomorrow. All you need to know is he's been waiting on this call and he's said UT has "moved straight to the top" of his list. The Horns may have their JUCO QB in less than a week. This news tells us a few things:
1.) Mack wants to win NOW
2.) McCoy is most likely gone
3.) Brewer and Overstreet will get their much needed redshirts
For those that don't remember, Wallace is the JUCO teammate of DT Brandon Moore so he already has a connection with UT. Both guys helped East Mississippi CC to the NJCAA national le this season. Wallace set NJCAA single season records for total offense (4,810 yards), passing yards (4,604 yards) and most TDs thrown (53). He's also had four games of at least seven TDs.

More good news. Per Hook 'Em 24/7, 2013 DB Marcell Harris will be visiting Austin while he's in Texas for the 2012 US Army All-American Bowl. He will be participating in the underclassmen combine that they hold and his family will fly to San Antonio tomorrow. His trip to campus is still in the works but should be set up pretty soon.
Things are still looking really good with WR Dorial Green-Beckham. He's had the opportunity to spend a good amount of time with UT commitments in San Antonio (there are ZERO Arkansas guys at the Army Bowl and one of the UT guys said "we'll get him!") and he's looking to cut his list down to three schools when he gets home to Springfield. We've thought this for the past week or two, but OU looks like they're on the outside looking in at this point. He's been saying he wouldn't take any more official visits for a few days now, but he mentioned this evening that he would be visiting Arkansas after all. Some recent quotes from DGB:
“It depends on how I feel at that point about where I'm going,” Green-Beckham said. “If there's a school further away from home that I really like, then I'd have to sit down with my family and really see where we go from there if that school is the best place for me.”
“For my first time being down there and just knowing everything I knew about Texas and all of the great athletes they have, and the great coaches, and the great people, it was just a tremendous experience,” Green-Beckham said. “I just couldn't believe how well the people treated me when I was there. It made for a great atmosphere. It lived up to everything I thought it would be.”
“If I chose Texas, then I feel like I'd be able to do what the coaches want me to do,” Green-Beckham said. “I feel like the Texas coaches want me to fill a specific role in the offense. I'd be running the routes that I like to run and I'd be able to do what I do best to help the team. I'd be able to catch a lot of balls and help them out.”
“My relationship with him is one that's very close,” Green-Beckham said. “He's a really good receivers coach and I know he's put a lot of guys in the NFL.”
“Coach Brown is great,” Green-Beckham said. “He's a great coach and there's a reason his program is successful.”
“I've seen it (the photo from K-State weekend with all of the UT guys),” Green-Beckham said. “When I talked to those guys, they weren't 100 percent sure they were going to commit, but they loved it at Texas. When Donald (Hawkins) committed, he sent me a text that first day saying that I needed to come join him.”
“We joked about it because he was my roommate when we had our visit,” Green-Beckham said. “We had a good time and he let me know that I should join him down there. We got really close on the visit.”
“They've (the UT commitments) been pretty chill with me so far,” Green-Beckham said. “I really respect that. They're good guys and they've just kind of given me my space and given me time to make my decision and that's something I really appreciate.”
Excellent news. Longtime lurker here. Ash in my opinion just doesn't have the decision making, and his high school stats reflect that. Decision making isn't something that is likely to improve that greatly either. McCoy just has a worse arm than me, and that isn't likely to ever get up to a serviceable level, which is depressing.
So give me a JUCO please! If we offer Bo I suppose that means that McCoy is gone as Tfloss said.
One more update from Hook 'Em 24/7. OL/DL Arik Armstead is still talking about taking an official visit to Texas. He was going to use his final official visit for Auburn later on this month, but they are supposedly now out of the race. The only issue is there hasn't been any contact with the staff since they were trying to plan a trip for banquet weekend in early December. There is a brief contact period that started today and will run through this Sunday in which the staff could decide to make a move. If the Armsteads visit Austin, it will probably be next Tuesday or Wednesday after the Army Bowl comes to an end. What's pretty cool about all of this is Armstead's father is the one pushing the visit the hardest (I believe he is a native Texan). If the UT staff doesn't put in a call or visit Armstead in San Antonio this weekend, they'll probably go straight home to California.
