But Manu;s contract doesn't really affect anything. Porkers contract though.
Doesn't matter if Manu's contract has an impact on team's cap space or not. It's the fact of still relying on 40 years old players/giving them contracts "because loyalty", instead of getting younger, faster, more athletic with proven NBA guys -not a bunch of rookies like this summer-.

The Spurs' backcourt in playoffs will be composed by a point guard who would excel as a PG backup coming off the bench but he will start "because loyalty=he-will-retire-as-Spur/his-contract-doesn't-allow-to-sign-an-elite-PG". And a 40 years old SG who can't stay in front of faster/elite guards anymore but he will play 20 minutes against them " 'cause loyalty=etc/etc..."

It doesn't seem a winning formula.

The value of loyalty is in what it shows the next generation: basically, Kawhi, at this point. That's just my opinion.
Well, the question it's about living for the present or building for the future.

In my opinion, it would be nice not to waste the best years of Kawhi/LMA combo for Spurs' loyalty to old players...

I agree with you entirely. Perhaps I should have said,"the ONLY potential value of loyalty..."

Those salaries aren't a big deal. Manu comes off the books next season with Tony the season afterwards. That combined with the next cap increase puts the Spurs in very workable financial position. The much bigger issue is that they are using roster spots on old or incomplete players. Even at the min, having guys who can't carry the load anymore and others who can't function without those guys carrying the load is just a lot less stable. That you can't rely on Manu playing a lot of minutes is a big deal, because the Spurs NEED someone who can do that to be their sixth man. That Mills needs a guy like Manu next to him just compounds this issue. These two things screw up the bench-guard rotation. A similar thing is true for Parker and Green, but Danny should be able to transition to other forms of offense.

The projected bench of Mills, Manu, Anderson, Lee and Dedmon is just awkward unless David becomes a three-point shooter overnight. You have two roll-men who won't pull the defense away from the basket if they aren't the ones setting the screen, a guy who's best in a triple-threat, high-post position, a player who has to dominate the ball on nearly every possession whether due to his own nature of the coach's expectation, but who can't actually do that anymore, and a guy who mostly relies on getting open threes with will be at a premium due to the rest of the unit.

    Ew.

Well, sucks for Ayres that he couldn't even by the 20th guy. Anyway, just take my post about the rotation but swap out Ayres for Anthony. I don't expect it to change the result at all.

Anthony isn't that much of a surprise. Seasoned vet shot blocker who probably won't stick with the Spurs past camp but can school-up Jean-Charles.

Ed Davis got paid going the T-Rob route so I can't really blame him if all he wants is money.

I'ts a training camp deal. He's competing with ji yianlan for the 15th spot in the team. I don't know if that was Davis' situation. I think he really turned off teams with his massive ego expecting 20 minutes per game over the summer. This is what he was humbled into.

Looking forward to seeing our new scrubs either mess up big time or exceed expectations!
