said he was jawing with pop during a game and his dad called him after the game and said don’t ever disrespect pop like that. Then preceded to tell him the about the shoe story.
, how did I forget to write that part?

Aww, crap! Pop is really having a trying year. So sad to hear of her passing. The grief process can be so circuitous and disregulating. I wonder if Pop will coach out this season. Might be better than diving head first into the mourning phase.
My guess is that this has had a big effect on him these past few years. It's awesome that he built a classy and principled franchise that will support him through this.

    RIP

woke up to a text from a friend with this terrible news... RIP Erin

    Definitely puts life into perspective.
Yeah I thought this thread was just really low class trolling when I googled Erin Popovich and got a swimmer in the results. Devastating news to hear it was actually true.

They had a beef going on during the 2008 playoffs. That's when Pop went to an aggressive Hack-a-Shaq strategy. I do remember in game 2 of that series Shaq started cursing out Pop during the game after getting fouled. I'm guessing Shaq's story must have happened during that series.

Shaq said he couldn't get size 18-19 shoes in high school so his stepdad went to the Spurs and Pop gave him a couple of pairs for Shaq to wear. The timeline lines up with when he was an assistant to Larry Brown.
said he was jawing with pop during a game and his dad called him after the game and said don’t ever disrespect pop like that. Then preceded to tell him the about the shoe story.
    Thanks guys.

I'm sure Craig Sager's son will send Pop his condolences too.

I don’t give two s about what people on this forum think about me despite the fact I’ve been here for a long time. This hurts. Pop has been a figure, controversial or not, in many of our lives. It’s truly sad. To anyone who’s lost someone close or unexpectedly these things are really difficult (I lost my dad / best frend to cancer). It’s brutal. And I have as much empathy for someone I’ve never met as I’ve ever had.

Knowing Pop, it’s fair to assume Erin Popovich was an absolute legend. My deepest sympathies to Pop and his daughters.

Agreed, I have never met Pop but this news hits hard. Pop is one of the main faces of the city and his work has brought me so much enjoyment for decades now. So you hate to see bad things happen to such an amazing person.

Terribly sad news. I had no idea she was even sick, but knowing Pop I'm sure he fiercely protected his wife and family's privacy concerning her illness. Probably suffering in silence all year over this. Puts things in perspective. God bless the Pops.
