This lineup works so well cuz they all move well without the ball an Purtel rolls well to the rim. With DDR, Gay, LMA... the ball stops so much. To me, DDR an Purtel dont mix. It's crazy cuz DDR distributes tbh ball so well. Just not with Purtel.

Forbes marked Covington tonight while white marked rose. Forbes does better against bigger players.
yeah obviously White will have the toughest assignment but when a team has 2 offensive guards it's harder to hide Forbes

It's Pop's public comments if you followed team. He's not only better shooter but 10x better passer/facilitator
Well, it would be a mistake to insert Gasol for Poeltl, imho.

It's a nice quartet of players to compliment Bryn for sure. Surrounding him with shooters and a strong rebounder is gonna get points.

It's not all about what's best for the starters though, it's also what's best for the 2nd unit. Mills is not only not a starting caliber player, but has chemistry with Ginobili and Belinelli. It's easy to envision Poeltl, Bertans and White, fitting in with their free flowing style. They don't need a designated go-to scorer/ball stopper inhibiting that.

No spacing on O for the first unit and no size or defense and no offensive foundation for the second unit. Manu should not even be playing at this point, let alone being the main bench creator. Sure, back in like 2012, that would be an intriguing unit, but even that squad had Diaw and Jack to assist.

First, Gay can create just fine when he wants to. But second, Gay doesn't have to be a play-maker in his own right to relieve Manu's burden. Just him being able to catch the ball and make something happen or being a guy they can throw it to in the post would help

Gay isn't a p-n-r initiator though; he's a mid post ISO scorer. He's not creating for the rest of the 2nd unit any more than Mills' off ball movement/gravity would.

I don't see it as the burden you do. I suspect they'll be lots of mixing and matching and the stretches they play full 2nd unit, their perpetual motion and IQ will make up for the lack of a static, go-to scorer.

I just think you underestimate the importance of having an anchor on the court at all times. Manu had been that for years. Diaw did that in 2014. Gay had his moments where he did that last year. Even if it didn't seem like it, Manu always had the ability to get a bucket for himself when the bench was in its prime. He did that when the team needed it, and that threat made it easy for the rolling big to get good looks. I just don't see Manu being the guy who can pound that rock at this point.

Nice to see you trying to call scoreboard again. Think you missed some things:

First, my comment about Forbes was tongue-in-cheek.

Second, neither Forbes nor White is part of the bench. White's also not part of the ular lineup. No idea why you're calling specific attention to that, especially because in the context of the referenced thread, neither of us would have had a problem with the White/Bertans/Poeltl trio.

Third, you didn't predict Gay being an elite three-point shooter more than anyone else. That's what makes the starting unit work. What you did predict and deserve props for what Gay's dual starter/bench role. I don't love Pop's rotation, but he's doing just what you said he would do, and Rudy is making it work.

Fourth, our actual disagreement in that thread was whether the Spurs would start Murray/DeRozan/Gay/Aldridge/Gasol or Mills/Murray/DeRozan/Aldridge/Gasol. Eventually, Gasol and Poeltl became untenable in the SL, and of course Murray got injured. But I do think Forbes/White/DeRozan/Gay/Aldridge is closer to a win for me than for you. DeRozan playing the three is what most of the fuss was about, especially in contrast to Rudy doing that. The names have changed, but a small shooting guard and defensive-minded PG next to DeRozan still ended up being the way they went. They tried Gay at the three, but that fell apart. Call it a push? I guess.

None of this really matters except for this: You claimed the bench couldn't function offensively without a designated go-to guy, I said the exact opposite and I've been proven right.

Only works if players more without the ball.
