there isn't really a consensus. i think people acknowledge that brady/montana are the top 2. nostalgic old farts put montana up there, everybody else has brady by this point.

after that, i'd probably still say peyton manning. even with his postseason shortcomings in mind, his greatness was on another level. his body of work is goat-worthy which at some point has to matter.

i'd go brees/rodgers/marino/favre after that. next tier is the "winners" who weren't quite as prolific, as in elway/aikman. they have clutch moments but spend most of their careers throwing like 17 touchdowns per year . you can talk all you want about eras, but those numbers were pedestrian even during those times

Yeah, Brady/Montana/Peyton is the undisputed top 3, after that it's pretty much whoever you personally prefer. My 4 and 5 go to Steve Young and Brees.

If cheaters are disqualified then why do you have PED user Manning on the list?

There should be a separate list for the old timer QBs like Unitas, tbh.

    It's generally

    1. Brady
    2. Montana
    3. Manning

and then you have a debate

Ranking NFL players is essentially ranking schemes and supporting casts, tbh

one of the worst calls in NFL history*

but he's still the GOAT. he's done it time and time again after the tuck, and its not like he was anywhere near his peak during those days anyway.

*and no, it's not the case of "it was a stupid rule, but they made the right call." no, not only was it a stupid rule, but it was the wrong call anyway. he had already completed the whole pump fake and had both hands on the ball at the time woodson knocked it out. so yeah, he tucked it, finished the tuck, then got stripped. just because you pump fake once doesn't mean you're immune from fumbling the rest of the play

I put him top 10 and not top 5 as of right now. Peak Aaron Rodgers was maybe the most unguardable QB aid all time, but if last year was any indication the longevity won’t be there. He isn’t going to last into his late 30s or 40s unless he changes his game and relies less on being able to play heroball.

Cant take you serious if you put Young over Peyton.
