You and 2 million Slovenians. We could use a good C to help out Erazem, although Breza played good today.

The Toronto Raptor Slokar?
That guy can play basketball? He looks like a retard.
Yes, he can play and yes, unfortunately he does look a bit retard-ish. No offense, really, just stating the fact.

Has Rasho attended any of the games this year or is he already in Toronto?
Without Smodiš (and Nesterovič) is our weakest point defending the paint. As perfect as E. Lorbek is on the offensive side is he average in degending bigs. Brezec really wourked his ass out in the defense - major props to him. Jagodnik should be moved at 4 - he is strong and is fighter.
Colaps in Q2? I guess our players though it is already over. I hope they learned the leasson.

Great Britain 59-72 Slovenia
EUROBASKET 2009, Poland, 7-20 September GB matches: 8 September v Spain (2000 BST); 9 September v Serbia (2015 BST) Coverage:
By Rob Dugdale
BBC Sport at EuroBasket in Poland
Great Britain's opening EuroBasket game ended in a 72-59 loss to Slovenia in Group C in Warsaw.
Pops Mensah-Bonsu hit 18 points in his first game for the team this summer and Robert Archibald added 12.
After losing the first quarter 27-15, GB came roaring back to lead 35-33 just before half-time and were just four points adrift after three quarters.
But Slovenia hit some big shots to open the fourth period with a 14-5 run and GB were unable to close the gap.
Coach Chris Finch had Slovenia in his sights as the likeliest to give up a win which could allow GB a place in the second phase of a tournament which a united Great Britain team has never played at before.
The top three teams from the four-team group in Warsaw will travel to Lodz for the second phase of the tournament, but at least one win is needed to make that stage.
Slovenia had lost to GB at a tournament in Seville three weeks ago, but came out shooting the ball much better than they had in that game and had Britain 23-11 down in the first quarter.
Bostjan Nachbar and Goran Jagodnik hit shots from distance when their team needed them in the third quarter and Jaka Lakovic and Domen Lorbek hit threes to start the fourth-quarter run that edged GB out of contention.
GB's recently-simplified offensive sets are designed to maximise their power under the opposing basket, and it was Archibald and Mensah-Bonsu that started the second-quarter comeback that brought GB level and six points from the underused Joel Freeland that brought the lead.
"Great Britain certainly punished us under the basket in the first half," admitted Slovenia coach Jurij Zdovc. "Also we helped them because we weren't doing our job properly."
Although the addition of Mensah-Bonsu to the team certainly helped, the poor shooting that has plagued GB all summer was again a factor in their defeat.
They hit only four three-pointers in the game and of the back court players, only Nate Reinking and Flinder Boyd scored field goals.
"No we didn't move the ball well enough at times to get the open looks that we wanted," admitted Finch. "Our game plan was to pound the ball inside and I think we tended to take our eye off the basket. I told the guys at half-time that we needed to be ready to drop a few more shots out there but we never really did that.
"Pops gave us a nice game and a ton of energy. The fourth quarter you could see he got out of rhythm with the team a little but he helped us get back in the game.
"We're satisfied although we're not happy. We played hard, we gave it a good shot, we just ran out of gas," said Finch. "We needed to get a few plays at the right time - they made them, we didn't. It wasn't a 15-point game - we just fell short by about five minutes."
"We were targeting the first game simply because it would be great to get a win on the board early.
Great Britain's next game could not be more daunting. Spain are reigning world champions and the favourites to win the title in Poland. In addition to that, they are trying to shake off their reputation as perennial silver medallists (three in the last five EuroBaskets) and finally win a gold.
"This is what you play basketball for - so you can play against the best," said Nate Reinking. "It's going to be easy for us to get up for tomorrow. Even so, we're disappointed with tonight - we had a chance until the fourth quarter.
GB must now look to Plan B and get a win against either Spain on Tuesday or Serbia in the final group game on Wednesday.
Serbia's unexpected 66-57 win over Spain in Monday's second game merely confirmed how high the level of competition is in Group C.

Eurosport - Mon, 07 Sep 19:12:00 2009
Buzz Up!
Chris Finch's side fell to an early deficit but fought back during the second quarter of the game and headed in to the half-time break just two points down at 35-37.
Pops Mensah-Bonsu was the focus of most of Team GB's attacking play and the Houston Rockets forward ended the game with an impressive 18 points.
He was ably assisted by Robert Archibald, who drained 12, but Britain's offensive game deteriorated during the third quarter before slowing to a near halt in the final period.
Slovenia put away some big shots at the start of the fourth quarter, pulling away to stretch their lead to 15 with just under six minutes remaining.
Erazem Lorbek had 19 points to lead all scorers while Jaka Lakovic added 11 for the Slovenians.
Britain failed to find a reply and now face an uphill struggle to qualify from Group C with games against favourites Spain and powerhouse Serbia to come over the next two days.
But despite the defeat, Britain's head coach Chris Finch was encouraged by the display.
"Slovenia played outstandingly well tonight, particularly when they had to," said Finch.
"The game went pretty much as we expected it to go. We thought they would come in with a big first quarter and they did that.
"But I was pleased with the guys. All in all I was very proud of the way we played and we took a big step forward with where we had been before we came into this tournament.
"Pops got a nice game for us. He gave us energy but you could see in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter, where he was a little out of rhythm from the rest of the team. He did a great job to help get us back in the game.
"We just kind of ran out of gas. They had up to a 15-point lead but it wasn't a 15-point game.
"If we can put 40 minutes together we can beat anyone."
He added: "It doesn't get any easier but we knew the schedule and it hasn't changed. We have to stay committed to what we try to do and we did it for about 35 minutes and tomorrow we will have to do it for 40 to have a chance of winning.
"You can see that our team can compete in every level and at every moment."

Slovenia Pull Away Late, Top Great Britain
07 September 2009
By Simon Wilkinson
Slovenia pulled away in the fourth quarter to register a 72-59 win over Great Britain in the Group C's opening game at EuroBasket.
Erazem Lorbek had 19 points to lead all scorers and Jaka Lakovic added 11.
Turning point: Slovenia used a 10-0 run in the middle of the fourth quarter to extend their lead from 57-52 to 67-52 and seemingly put the game out of Great Britain's reach for good.
Hero: Samo Udrih and Domen Lorbek. The lesser known of two pairs of brothers on the Slovenian national team, they hit the basket at the right time during that fourth quarter spurt.
Stats: 100 per cent. That was Erazem Lorbek's shooting percentage for the game. He hit all eight of his field goal attempts (including one three-pointer) and made good on both of his free-throws.
----
Slovenia used a near-perfect fourth quarter shooting display to shake off stubborn Great Britain and secure a 72-59 win in EuroBasket Group C in Warsaw.
Jure Zdovc's men heated up in the final frame, hitting nine of 13 field goal attempts (including three of four from three-point territory) as they outscored their opponents 21-12, at one stage reeling off 10 unanswered points to turn their 57-52 edge into a 67-52 cushion.
Erazem Lorbek had a game-high 19 points despite playing only 20 minutes due to foul trouble. He was perfect from the field, hitting all eight of his shots and both his free-throws.
"This was a difficult game. We really had to work hard in the final quarter to hold them off," he said afterwards.
"They [Great Britain] are a very good team and I think we saw that especially in the middle quarters. We played well in stretches but we need to do a better job especially defensively in the next game."
Pops Mensah-Bonsu led the way for the Brits with 18 points and saw both the positive and negative from the game.
"The way we played in the second quarter was very encouraging to see but we need to duplicate that and not have big gaps when we struggle as we did," said the forward.
"In the final quarter it was just a case of Slovenia hitting the shots at the right time. They got a hot hand and they capitalised on it."
Great Britain started slow but were within three, 10-7, on Andy Betts' three-point play with 6:36 left in the first quarter.
Slovenia then outscored them 17-8 the rest of the period courtesy of some accurate three-point shooting by Samo Udrih and Bostjan Nachbar for a 27-15 advantage heading into the second quarter.
Newcomers Great Britain looked to be in real trouble but Robert Archibald and Mensah-Bonsu provided a timely offensive boost as Great Britain went on a 14-2 run to tie the game at 29 when Joel Freeman, fresh off the bench, converted a three-point play with just over six minutes left in the half.
Slovenia struggled with their low-post defense as big men Primoz Brezec and Erazem Lorbek both picked up second personal fouls and Chris Finch's side capitalised to take their first lead of the game, 35-33, when, once again, Freeman made good on the shot and the free-throw.
Domen Lorbek hit a tough runner and Jaka Lakovic made a pair of free-throws to edge Slovenia back in front, 37-35, at the break.
Slovenia pushed their advantage to 47-40 early in the third quarter as some crisp ball movement led to open three-pointers for Bostjan Nachbar and Goran Jagodnik who made good on their attempts.
Great Britain hit just one field goal in the first six minutes of the third period but got a lift when Flinder Boyd came off the bench and scored five quick points to get back within two, 47-45.
Erazem Lorbek though scored the last four points of the quarter as the Slovenians led 51-47 and they would carry that momentum into the final frame.
Lakovic and Domen Lorbek buried two quick three-pointers for a 57-50 advantage. Great Britain came back within five, 57-52, on a Betts' basket, but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way as Slovenia responded right away with a 10-0 run and never looked back.
Domen Lorbek and Samo Udrih accounted for 11 of Slovenia's 22 points in the final frame.
Despite being short of captain Matjaz Smodis and big man Uros Slokar, Slovenia did a good job on the boards, out-rebounding their opponents 28-23.
Afterwards, Finch gave due credit to Slovenia.
"They made plays when they had to, especially in the fourth quarter when the game was on the line. We wanted to keep it close to the fourth quarter and did, but they came out and hit some shots. We had some turnovers and were chasing the game."
Zdovc praised his team's defense, especially late in the game.
"I am very happy with the way we defended in the fourth quarter. We made shots but our defense is what stopped them from fighting back," he said.

A Greek on the bench of Slovenia.
'Greece will have another representative in the upcoming Eurobasket. Besides our National Team, Stefanos Dedas was announced as the assistant coach next to Juri Zdovc. The sepk.gr contacted the Greece coach to ask for his first impressions.' ....
http://www.sepk.gr/portal2/content/view/1573/1/lang,en/
"Slovenia has great offensive talent. The coaching staff is troubled about the fact that the team doesn't play good in the crucial moments. Another thing is that the star players are not so good in defense. Juri Zdovc has to work on that. He was a great defender as a players, while on the same time embraces the same philosophy as a coach. He can bring a winning attitude to the team".
Dedas is (was) scout for Slovenian NT, taping other teams' preparation games etc.

Brave GB and Mighty Mensah fall short to the Slovenians
September 7, 2009 at 1:32 pm · Filed under Uncategorized
Thankfully, the BBC realised that the achievements of the Great Britain basketball team in reaching Eurobasket were so phenomenal that they felt they must broadcast the history being made by Gb being at Eurobasket. Albeit, it was only on the bbc website or on the red button. Nevertheless it is a chance to promote the game and Great Britain didn’t dissapoint as they played 3 and a half quarters of very entertaining basketball.
GB did get off to a very slow defensive start, as Slovenia opened up an 8-2 lead following two open threes and a very open layup. This open layup was followed by 2 more, and it seemed to be a woeful start to Eurobasket. On the offensive end, Pops Mensah-Bonsu was trying desperatly to assert himself in his first competitive game for GB over summer due to difficulties with securing his insurance. However, maybe a little to desperatly, as his first three shots were unadvisable difficult shots to make and unsurprisingly he missed all three, one missing the rim entirely.
Half way through the first quarter it was Andy Betts who showed the way for his team mates, with a delightful spin move off his defender to lay it in. for 2 points. Pops seemed to learn from his team mate and mimicked the move shortly after. GB were starting to play a hand in the game, but shocking defense and sizzling offense saw Slovenia close the quarter shooting 90% from the field and out-rebounding GB 8-3. The first quarter ended with the score 27-15 in Slovenia’s favour.
Finch sprinkled some coaching magic at the quarter interval and GB game out all guns blazing. Archibald – perhaps luckily – began procedures with an edgy 3 point shot banking in off the backboard. Pops would then show his worth, scoring a super layup followed by another, but this time converting plus the foul. Completing the three point play he flew up high to unleash a mighty block on Lorbeck. Who then vengefully hit a beautiful jumper along the baseline to lead by 4.
Mike Lenzley drove to the hoop getting the foul and converting from the foul stripe, a habit that was becoming very regular from GB, who finished 11-13 from the foul line. This also meant Jagodnik was in foul trouble with 2 fouls, whos old legs could not keep up with those of Mike Lenzley. GB took their first lead off Lenzley at 34-33. Jurij Zdovc decided a timeout needed to be called and as the Slovenian players walked sulkingly off, the cheerleaders charged on dressed in black and white to entertain the fans. The second quarter ended with Bonsu being blocked in the paint but it was a good quarter for GB and Slovenia had racked up a shocking 12 fouls in comparison to GB’s 3. On a positive side they were still shooting a massive 81% and lead the game 37-35.
Nachbar had so far been slow and so must have been looking to light up in the 2nd half, but as the half began it was Nate Reiking who did the lighting up with a deep 3 in the corner. However, Nachbar repaid the favour with a 3 of his ownto make the scoe line 40-28 to Slovenia. Bonsu showed his explosiveness with another block, this one even mightier than the last. However, Slovenia continued to shoot well despite a bad spell, and led by 7 points midway in the third. Lorbek was than forced to the bench with 3 fouls.
Boyd perhaps felt the game was starting to run away from GB, and so turned it on with a 3 ffollowed by a magical runner. Sadly, this was the end of the good for GB, and from here on out the start of the sloppy play, which had so far been good (with only 5 turnovers) began. With the shot clock turned off GB were gifted with the last shot, but they coughed this up and with 3 seconds remaining the ball was in the hands of Archibald on the 3 point line, not the man people would immediately associate with 3 point buzzer beaters. And rightly so, Arch showed us why by throwing up an airball. Nonetheless, the game was still very much in touch for GB, and the fans knew it as some Slovenians began to get a little restless.
Entering the fourth quarter Slovenia were shooting 80% from the field and Lakovic decided to contribute with a precise 3 pointer from the corner. Samo Udrih then began what would be the fall of the underdogs with a nice jumper inside the 3 point line. Slovenia went on a 10-0 run who now lead 62-53 and it took a 3 from Flinder Boyd to put an end to the rot. Robert Archibald showed the last nice play with a shot off the dribble but it seemed a little to late.with the scoreline at 69-55. Bonsu added the last of his 18 points with a swift steal and a coast to coast layup. The obvious fatigue that had begun to plague the GB roster was proven as Archibald badly mishandled a pass on the run to the basket leaving 4 seconds on the clock. The final result 69-57. However GB showed some promise and will be deeply sad to leave with a loss. Pops Mensah-Bonsu lead all scorers and showed the explosiveness and the reason he is many fans favourites.
One thing can be said for certain, we haven’t seen the last of the GB basketball team. Tune in tomorrow to watch the tough encounter with Spain.

Slovenia Slay Brits In Opener
September 7, 2009 at 2:20 pm · Filed under GB Team News

Dave Ryan for gbbasketball.net in Warsaw – A poor fourth period cost Great Britain dearly as they went down 72-59 against Slovenia in their opening Eurobasket game on Monday.
Chris Finch’s team had recovered from a poor start to put themselves in a position to win the game, but they were hit by a barrage in the final quarter to be were outscored 21-12.
Pops Mensah-Bonsu led the way for Finch’s side with 18 points, six rebounds and two blocks, while Robert Archibald finished with 12 points and five blocks. Andrew Betts added nine points, with Flinder Boyd chipping in with eight.
GB will now face Spain on Tuesday evening in their game of the tournament.
Erazem Lorbek finished as the game’s top scorer with 19 point for Slovenia, with Jaka Lakovic the only other player in double figures with 11.
Slovenia won a messy tip, and Rob Archibald was called for an early foul bef ore Primoz Brezec opened the scoring for the Slovenians.
A trey from Jana Lakovic followed before Archibald became the first GB player to score in a Eurobasket finals game with a hook.
Lakovic hit another three before Nate Reinking made it a four point game, but it took a Betts and-one to keep Britain in the game at the 6:30 mark, as they trailed 10-7.
Britain continued to struggle defensively, and with Bostjan Nachbar left open for a stuff to put Slovenia 18-7 ahead with 3:33 on the clock, coach Finch called a time-out.
Betts scored from inside the paint after the restart, and although Pops Mensah-Bonsu’s introduction to the action saw him quickly add to the GB tally, Slovenia continued to dominate from outside the arc as they reached the first break with a 27-15 lead.
Archibald drained a trey as the shot clock ran down to open the second period scoring, and Mensah-Bonsu made it a seven point game with a basket before quickly taking his tally to eight and forcing a Slovenian time-out with a score at 27-22 at 8:00 on the clock.
0A
The break made no difference to Britain as they extended their run to 10-0 with an Archibald and-one.
Joel Freeland made a belated entry into the game, and his and-one levelled the score at 29 with 6:02 on the clock to silence the 2,000 Slovenian fans.
Britain stayed in the game, and Freeland gave them their first lead of the night with a hook shot, forcing a timeout with 3:09 on the clock and GB 34-33 ahead, and with the bonus shot to follow.
Freeland converted the free-throw, but Britain went scoreless during the rest of the half, and Slovenia scored the final four points of the period to lead 37-35 going into the locker room.
Brezec opened the second half scoring for Slovenia with a dunk, but Nate Reinking replied with a trey to make it a one point game.
Slovenia replied with five unanswered point, but Nachbar was called for an intentional foul on Mensah-Bonsu, and the Londoner hit both free-throws only to see his three from the resulting inbound rim out.
The Slovenian lead grew to seven as Goran Jagodnik buried a trey, and Finch called a timeout with GB trailing 47-40 and 4:01 of the third remaining.
Britain chipped away at the lead, and a Betts hook shot made it a two point game with 1:23 on the clock, and that lead was doubled before Archibald’s attempt at a buzzer-beater rimmed out leaving Britain trailing 51-47 at the final break.
Janak Lakovic hit a trey to open the fourth period scoring for Slovenia, but Mensah-Bonsu took his tally to 16 with an old fashioned three-point play.
The deficit hit double figures as Lorbek did likewise, forcing Finch into a timeout with Britain trailing 65-52 and 6:39 remaining.
Flinder Boyd made it a 12 point game with a trey, but Udrich hit a long two at the other end and a long three from Lorbek effectively wrapped things up for Slovenia.

Courtesy of gameongb – Britain pushed Slovenia all the way in their opening group game in Warsaw, but they were unable to make the most of a dominant middle period and eventually lost 72-59.
Pops Mensah-Bonsu topscored on his birthday, in his first game for the Standard Life GB men this summer, with 18 points, while Rob Archibald added 12 and Andy Betts was one-point shy of double figures. Meanwhile Slovenia were led by Erazem Lorbek with 19, Jaka Lakovic recorded 11 and Samo Udrih and Primoz Brezec both took 8.
With Slovenian fans dominating the crowd of 3,054 at the Torwar Arena, GB found themselves 27-15 down after the first quarter but they rallied back to make it a two-point game by half time. However, coach Chris Finch admitted his side ran out of gas in the latter stages of a game, a game he firmly believes was not reflected by the final score.
“Slovenia played outstandingly well tonight, particularly when they had to,” said Finch.
“The game went pretty much as we expected it to go. We thought they would come in with a big first quarter and they did that.
“But I was pleased with the guys. All in all I was very proud of the way we played and we took a big step forward with where we had been before we came into this tournament.
“Pops got a nice game for us. He gave us energy but you could see in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter, where he was a little out of rhythm from the rest of the team. He did a great job to help get us back in the game.
“We just kind of ran out of gas. They had up to a 15-point lead but it wasn’t a 15-point game.
“If we can put 40 minutes together we can beat anyone.
“It doesn’t get any easier but we knew the schedule and it hasn’t changed. We have to stay committed to what we try to do and we did it for about 35 minutes and tomorrow we will have to do it for 40 to have a chance of winning.
“You can see that our team can compete in every level and at every moment.”
GB play world champions Spain in tomorrow night’s game and Nate Reinking insists Britain will bounce back in time.
“It was a tough game tonight and we fought to the fourth quarter. Slovenia had shots and good rallying. We turned it over and lost our rhythm and then it got away from us,” said Reinking.
“They shot extremely well and I think that was the difference down the stretch.
“This is why we play basketball, to play against the best. It will be easy for us to get up tomorrow morning and just get ready and keep improving as a team to go after the world champions.”

Today is almost a must win. We need at least one if not two wins from the next two games. Otherwise we get in the second round with 0 point and we play Turkey - a great team, Lithuania - another great team and Poland - home team, and we'll need at least two wins from them to get to quarter finals.
So game against Serbia is big. Hopefully they get a bit complacent after their big win against Spain.

Serbia, Slovenia Look To Build On Strong Starts
08 September 2009
By Jeff Taylor
Serbia's aim before the EuroBasket was to claim a top-six finish in order to qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
After Monday's 66-57 upset win against Spain, the Blues might want to set the bar even higher.
...
...
Key Match-up: Goran Dragic v Milos Teodosic. Phoenix Suns reserve Dragic struggled against Team GB but will be one of the quickest players on the floor while Teodosic is coming off a strong game against Spain in which he virtually shut down Rubio.
X-Factor: Goran Jagodnik. The Slovenia veteran has played in the Serbian league and is familiar with many of Tuesday's opponents. He had two big three-pointers in the second half to help fire his team to victory.
Key Stat: Monday's triumph over Spain was Serbia boss Ivkovic's 19th win in as many EuroBasket games as a coach. He won two titles as the coach of the former 'big' Yugoslavia, when the team still had all of the republics including Croatia. In 1995, he also led a 'small' Yugoslavia to the European title when the squad consisted of players from Serbia and Montenegro.
Sounding Off: "This tournament is long so we won't get carried away" - Ivkovic discusses the mindset of his team after the win over Spain

Making History (Day Three) D-Day
...
The march down to the Arena was fairly uneventful although I did manage to get into a conversation with a Slovenian about football. Strangely my mention of the word Newcastle resulted in guffaws of laughter.
At the Arena itself half of Slovenia was queueing to get in. We dutifully joined the back of one of the queues before laying eyes upon Worthing`s finest (if that’s true then god help the rest of Worthing) who as ever were in raucous good humour and being looked at by the Slovenians in the way a circus audience assesses the performing elephants.
The queue banter was excellent. I`m quite proud of my we are the dyslexic beegees chant but sadly it was repeatedly drowned out as it became clear that Slovenia was the airhorn capital of Europe.

Slovenia Stay On A Roll
08 September 2009
By Simon Wilkinson
Game Summary
Turning point: Erazem Lorbek hit a three-pointer from the top of the key early in the third quarter to put Slovenia up by 17, 47-30, and at the other end, Primoz Brezec swatted away Stefan Markovics lay-up attempt to let Serbia know it just wasnt going to be their day.
Hero: Bostjan Nachbar made big buckets time and time again to end Serbias several attempts to rally back. Whenever Duzan Ivkovics men came too close, you could count on the swingman to hit a clutch basket.
Stats: 33 that was Serbias shooting percentage as they scored only 29 points in the first half. They made just eight of 22 attempts from two-point range and three of 11 from beyond the arc.
------------------------------------------------
Slovenia used a three-point barrage to take a 13-3 lead and never looked back as they cruised past Serbia 80-69 in EuroBasket Group C.
Jaka Lakovic buried two three-pointers and Bostjan Nachbar knocked the other one - despite being defended closely - to set the tone as Slovenia took their first double-digit lead just three minutes into the game.

A big hello to everyone from Warsav!
I will write in broken paragrafs because my thoughts will jump around as i write them for sure...
-Atmosphere before/betwen and after the games is INSANE as far as Slovenian fans are considered. My throat (and bassicallz from everyone) is completely sore from screaming and singing... simply fanatical.
- I have to admit I was dead wrong with Lakovic. He sucked ass on all the preaparation games but here in Poland he plays as well as we can wish. I guess he was horribly tired before or something because I simply dont get it....
-Our weakest link looks to be Brezec... You guys had some praise from him but as far as fans here are considered (including me) he is our weakest link. But as Smodis and Slokar will come back our frontline will be insanely good. ERAZEM IS A BASKETBALL GOD! Everytime he gets the ball you know something good will happen.
- Spanish fans suck... there is aproximately 500-700 of them imo but today they were basically outperformed by 50 british fans who are also very nice. There is also very little Serbian fans as many of them couldnt get visas. Basically Slovenians cheered for both of them against the Spanish who seem lame, players and the fans.
-Fans start gathering 2-3 hours before the game... the atmosphere andf full scale cheering start aproximately 1,5 hours before the game. Thousands of liters of beer drank :P
-Slovenian designated pub SUCKS. The only nice thing about it is the location in the center of Warsav, which is a beautiful city btw... at least the parts we seen. I didnt expect it... Also the people are nice allthough their english skills usually suck or are non existent. Anyways... the prices in this pub are practicaly the most expensive in Warsav. Also the staff cheats you out of money on regular basis with an excuse they dont have change to return. I paid 20 euros or so yesterday for 3 jager colas and 1 beer to give you and idea. In other normal pubs beer is something like 1,5 euros.
Basically most of the fans would like to know who was the brainpower behind the choosing of this pub and smack the shit out of him. After games less than 200 out of 2500 fans actually go there because it sucks.
-Spanish seem in a bad shape... they lack defensive players to back their great offensive talent they have in Navarro, Gasol and Rubio. They probably have the best 5 offensive players on the floor but they lack hustle.
-I loved the officiating as it lets the game to be rough and the number of free throws is not too excesive. Insane loudness of the places and 2500 screaming their loungs out seems to be helping our guys to get away with some rough defence that could result in calls.
-Our hostel is full of Slovenian fans and a few british... Drinking starts early and ends late as you can imagine. :P Even though 2 games and 8 hours of being crazy through the day really drains the energy out of us and we cant keep up the pace late into the night....
-Some of my friends had some contact with players after todays game... Erazem Lorbek and some serbian players were great and friendly but Nachbar was cocky and not too nice.
-Police in Warsav is quite tolerant to the fans as we really break shitloads of small laws. Especially loudness/public drinking :P Also the Polish employees of the hotel are really really friendly and dont complain about anything. Not to mention it is also very clean and nicely organised. Golica is being played a lot in the hostel pub :))))
So much for now... I hope everyone is enoying the games and it is as loud and crazy at home as much as it is here.

Most of our guys also thought this... but me and another friend stayed until the end and joined the GB fans who are extremely loud considering there is only 50 of them.
GB was actually really really close to beat them. You could see Spanyards got extremely nervous and started missing even more shots when Brits took the lead by 4 points a few minutes until the end.
Unfortunately it showed they are quite unexperienced and they had some unnecessary turnowers at the end. Basically.... Put Ben Gordon on the GB team in those last few minutes and they would surely win because Spanyards started to shit their pants when they were close to a humiliating defeat and a trip home.
This GB win would be almost as sweet as the Slovenian victory was :toast

Star's Brothers Proving Their Worth
08 September 2009
By Simon Wilkinson
Erazem Lorbek and Beno Udrih have helped Slovenia make great strides in basketball over the years, but in the early stages of EuroBasket 2009 in Warsaw, it is their unheralded brothers who deserve all the praise.
Erazem may have led all players with a game-high 19 points but it was Domen Lorbek and Samo Udrih who combined for nine of Slovenia's 22 fourth-quarter points as they pulled away to beat Great Britain 72-59 on Monday and get their campaign off to a winning start.
Samo made his bow in an official senior international competition in the win and his astute play down the stretch almost made everyone forget about his older brother's absence from the tournament.

WTF is wrong with you?
Basketball is not just offence - try to observe and appreciate work under the basket also. Brezec worked hir ass out for 2nd evening in the row and (with help of the team) stopped Krstić and Perović. And he is not primarly option on offence, E. Lorbek is.
I know it is blasphemy to say something like this on this forum, but E. Lorbek (in offence) reminds me on Timmy: leg-work, baskets of the board...

Slovenia Aim For Perfect Preliminary Round
09 September 2009
By Simon Wilkinson
After coming very close to losing to Great Britain, in what might have been one of the biggest upset in European basketball history, a shaky-looking Spain will bid to hand Slovenia their first defeat in EuroBasket Group C on Wednesday.
Pau Gasol was the world champions' saviour on Tuesday, hitting the go-ahead three-pointer with about three minutes left in the game to give his team a 74-73 lead, one they didn't relinquish on their way to an 84-76 win.
Spain led by as many as 16 but Great Britain ran off 14 unanswered points to take their first lead at 68-66 midway through the final frame but they eventually ran out of steam.
Slovenia come into this game on the back of an impressive win over Serbia which guaranteed their place in the Qualifying Round. Jure Zdovc's men had a double-digit lead only three minutes into the game and never trailed on their way to an 80-69 win.
Head-to-head: Spain have won two of the three meetings between the two sides. The last time they met, at EuroBasket 2001 in Turkey, Slovenia were crushed 85-61 in the opening game of the tournament.
Key match-up: The battle of the big guys - Pau Gasol v Erazem Lorbek. They are the centre of their teams' offense. It will be interesting to see if Lorbek can slow down the Los Angeles Lakers All Star.
X-factor: Slovenia had their shooting touch going for them in the defeat of Serbia. They made 19 of 29 field goal attempts from two-point range and nine of 21 from beyond the arc. If they can keep up that kind of accuracy, Spain have their work cut out.
Stats: 32 - That is the number of points starter Jaka Lakovic and back-up Goran Dragic combined for against Serbia. Slovenia's guards have certainly been instrumental in their team's success so far and will be called upon again. Domen Lorbek and Samo Udrih led the fourth quarter charge to beat Great Britain on Monday and it was the turn of Lakovic and Dragic on Tuesday. The former hit two three-pointers to set the tone in the early stages and the latter scored 10 first-half points - including eight early in the second quarter - to keep Serbia at bay.
Sounding-off: "It will be a tough game. Slovenia have been the best team in the group so far. It is important for us to do a better job mentally than what we have shown in the first two games. If we do that, then I hope that the rest will take care of itself." - Spain head coach Sergio Scariolo.

Technically the Arena is in Warsaw. Once inside however you are transported to downtown Llublijana. The approximate proportion of fans is GB 1%, Serbia 2%, Spain 3%, Slovenia 94%. The place was absolutely jumping with the Slovenians obviously way up for the match against old rivals Serbia.

You guys should know that Mel_13 has said now several times in the forum that none of these games count. According to him ALL EuroBasket games are unofficial "exhibition games" and they are not even a real game. They are just an exhibition game and no one even takes them seriously and they are not even actually a real game.
He swears this is a fact. These EuroBasket games are NOT official competitions. They are just "exhibition games".

Good News, Bad News: Day Three
10 September 2009
By Yarone Arbel
Back-court come back
Spain held a safe 13 point lead, 64-51, with 8:21 to play only to see the two guards of Slovenia - Jaka Lakovic and Goran Dragic take over the game and manage a personal comeback. Lakovic hit a three ball, Dragic wrote back-to-back steals with lay ups before Jaka nailed another three. Dragic put on the final touch with a defensive rebound and a couple of hits from the line, to complete a 12-0 run and close the gap, before "the shot".
The shot
In case you missed Erazem Lorbek's tying buzzer-beater shot that sent the game between his Slovenia and Spain to overtime, make sure to visit the video section of Eurobasket2009.org and catch that arc which will be in any EuroBasket 2009 highlight clip.

Lithuania Search For Form Continues Against Slovenia
11 September 2009

Lithuania have their work cut out as they look to overcome an 0-2 hole in Group F of the Qualifying Round.
On Saturday, Ramunas Butautas' side go up against in-form Slovenia, who came very close to finishing with a perfect 3-0 mark in Group C, also known as the ‘Group of Death'.
An overtime defeat against world champions Spain put an end to the winning streak, but Jure Zdvoc's side still took top honours in Warsaw.

Slovenia cruised to an 81-58 win over Lithuania in Group F of the EuroBasket 2009 Qualifying Round in Lodz.
Jaka Lakovic knocked down six three-pointers as part of a 24-point outburst and Erazem Lorkbek chipped in with 17 to go along with eight rebounds.
The result saw Jure Zdvoc's side improve to 2-1 while the Lithuanians dropped to 0-3 and a place in the last eight looks to be a near-impossible task for them as they have to beat both Spain and Serbia in their remaining games.
Turning point: Jaka Lakovic hit his fifth and sixth three-pointers early in the third quarter to make it 51-28 and put the game well and truly beyond Lithuania's reach.
Hero: Who else but Lakovic. He connected on his first four attempts from beyond the arc and had his game-high 24 points through three quarters of play.
Stats: While Slovenia had the hot hand, Lithuania struggled mightily, hitting just 38 percent of their shots (21 of 58 including six of 22 from three-point range).

Awsome that Slokar is well. We really need him going forward.
At the moment our guys really work like a well oiled machine and we still practically didn't use Smodis.
Poland is beatable and Turkey (also beatable offcourse) will probably not play 100% in the last game.

I cannot remember ever seeing such a destruction of Lithuania before.

CIA Zdovc, why use him when you don't need him. His time will come, I have no doubts. :lol

Yes if don't beat Poland, we'll have trouble getting in. Win over Poland gets us to quarter-finals.
