In the second of two compelling Quarter-Finals on Friday, Slovenia turned in a dominant third quarter on their way to beating Croatia 67-65, and book their spot in the Semi-Finals.

Erazem Lorbek led the way for Slovenia with 27 points to go with eight rebounds.

Turning Point: Croatia led 47-32 with 28 seconds remaining in the first half when they lost their concentration and allowed Slovenia back into the game. After two free-throws from Domen Lorbek, Marko Popovic picked up a technical foul while arguing with Jaka Lakovic. The Barcelona guard Lakovic went to the line and made two free-throws and with Slovenia retaining possession, Domen Lorbek buried a long three-pointer at the half-time buzzer to trim the deficit to 47-39. They then held Croatia to just three third-quarter points and took a 53-50 advantage and stayed on top the rest of the way.

Hero: Erazem Lorbek underlined his sensational EuroBasket with game highs in points (27) and rebounds (eight) while also coming up with three steals.

Key Stats: Erazem Lorbek played all but 40 seconds of the game. Slovenia shot 21 of 24 (88%) at the free-throw line. Roko-Leni Ukic 21 points, including 16 in the first half to help Croatia take a big early lead.

I am so proud of these guys that I still have chills. I cried the day they qualified for the worlds for the first time ever in the tournament in Belgrade, and I cried today. No one gets to blame their missing players when you see what Slovenia has done. I am extra happy for Samo.

Pipan lacked any logistic support from the federation. Remember when they sent players on a 10 hour flight to Asia in coach? The greek players complained they didn't get enough rooms and two players needed to share the room - Slovenian players got first chance to have single rooms at this championship. And when they didn't get good practice hours in the official court this support team arranged them a seperate practice hall. This kind of small things add up and they distract the team from concentrating on the only thing that matters - playing.

Pipan was far from perfect, but he was the best we had. Plus one has to remember the state of the team, when he took over - a team with losing mentality, with lots of infighting and players not wanting to play for the NT. He did good - not great and far from perfect, but he did good.

Refs are the same in each FIBA event, its allways a type of a suprise party with them.

You have no idea how tough their criterium is gonna be on a given night, they seem to think they are equal participants of the basketball game (and therefore steal the spotlight at least a few times with their moronic calls, which they "make right" on the following play with another absurd call), there allways seems to be a seminar or conference before every major competition, in which they decide they are going to be stricter/ tougher on something then they used to be, and they call at least a few techicals in each game which actually matters ( not one in those where the W is more or less immaterial).

Thats how i see it as well. The problem is players in Euroball get get a lot more physical with each other then in the States. So if fouls are not called, we gonna be watching handball with a really small goal. What I mean is that I don't see the difference in stopping a fast break and fouling intentionally in the last minute. I always thought that it is absolute nonsense to call those situations differently. It also was not a "clear path foul", there were 2 players closer to the basket.

I don't know why there was intentional there. It's like sometimes refs call it, sometimes not. And I think I saw more situations where they don't call it. Maybe it was because Brezec accidentally tripped Teodosic a little and the ref thought that was intentional.

It's probably chemistry issue. When your team really plays as a team, you don't want to risk ruining the chemistry by adding a player who didn't train with all the others. The other thing is that point guard position is the most difficult to play without proper training with your teammates. And last but not least Klobucar did go through the whole training process and deserved his participation at the euro championship. Apart from that he also doesn't moan when he doesn't get playing time and before the Goran's injury it was expected that the third string PG/SG wouldn't play a lot.
