Jared Jeffries (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/307839) has informed the Knicks (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/page/NY) that he intends to re-sign with them, according to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com (http://twitter.com/#%21/KBergCBS/status/144123156779630592). The deal is expected to be for one year.

According to the Los Angeles Times (http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/nba/lakers/la-sp-lakers-20111206,0,3081429.story), Kapono and the Lakers (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/page/LAL) are close to a one or two-year deal for the league minimum. "The Spurs are believed to have been in contact with representatives of at least four free-agent small forwards: Dallas’ Caron Butler, former New Jersey Net Bostjan Nachbar and Washington Wizards Josh Howard and Maurice Evans."

Nachbar?.. What?

objective
12-07-2011, 03:22 AM
Nachbar is 6-9 and had the same terrible rebounding numbers Bonner usually has when he was last in the NBA, and can shoot the three.

Maybe he's a floor-spreading PF now that he's older and probably slowed down?

That contract isn't horrible. A little overpaid but not too bad. Chuck Hayes plays some of the best post D in the league despite being shorter than Blair.

But the Kings? I don't really understand that fit because Hayes is much more valuable to a contender, though it does make some sense to sign a guy who doesn't want to be a part of the offense since Sac will have enough trouble finding enough shots for everyone as it is.

Tough to model your game after someone when your the polar opposite mentally. There's a major difference between the two players.

One uses his body in a disciplined manner on the defensive end, the other is undisciplined over-committing while lunging for steals way too often.

One is disciplined in his eating habits, the other is disciplined in the Whataburger drive through.

I disagree. Winning starts from the top down, that means from the owner and Sterling has never made that his priority. He's traded away so many gems he's received from ending at the bottom. At least holt and company have winning on their agenda.

Doesn't change the fact that the clips have a decent shot at a better record than the Spurs at this moment. The Spurs really aren't a championship contendor right now and they certainly won't be any closer in the coming years barring another Tim Duncan/David Robinson.

Free agent Grant Hill is expected to choose a team this afternoon, according to a league source. The source said Hill will decide between the team where he has played the past four years, the Phoenix Suns, and a newly emerged contender: the San Antonio Spurs.

One thing the source ruled out: “It won’t be New York.”

The Knicks had been a rumored destination for Hill, but now they are now attempting to shed salary, not add it, so they can pursue Tyson Chandler.

The Spurs are apparently willing to give the 39-year-old Hill a second year on his contract, which the Suns would not. If Hill, a small forward, were to sign with the Spurs it would presumably coincide with San Antonio using the amnesty provision to waive small forward Richard Jefferson, who has three years and $30 million remaining on his contract.

Doesn't change the fact that the clips have a decent shot at a better record than the Spurs at this moment. The Spurs really aren't a championship contendor right now and they certainly won't be any closer in the coming years barring another Tim Duncan/David Robinson.

Time to face the facts.

Contender? maybe not. Better record? Not sure I would go that far. Spurs wont have the best record again, but I dont think they will fall to number 8. Clips on the other hand didnt even make POs, they finished 13th out of 15 teams. It would be an accomplishment to make the POs for them.

I understand your point about the future, looks bleak. But to go from #1 to #8, or #13 up to #8 the following year are both drastic swings.

I think you may have just answered your own question. Aside from Ford, they're not. All the FAs (aside from ford) are going for other teams, I'm guessing they think their chances are greater elsewhere (or greater money). Personally I think caron did it for the money, clips may have something in the future as some may think, but not next year.

Learn to read. Who said anything about Paul? I said Odom. They'd walk away with Bynum, Blair, Butler, a 1st in a deep draft and more cap space. It would also free them up to trade Okafor, who'd bring more assets. I also said they probably wouldn't do it, but it's worth a shot.

This is a terrible trade for the Hornets. They should be re-building with young, high upside players and draft picks. Not veterans who have plateaued as a cut under All-Star caliber. What's their goal, to be a perennial one and done team? I don't get this at all. Looks like another team (owned by the league, no less) has conveniently stepped up to help the Lakers just when they're beginning to fade.

It may not look great right now for them, but they will get Howard, which will give them three of the top six to at worst eight players in the game and unlike the Heat, their big three will have no overlap in their games. The front line may look bare, but they'll take Turkoglu with Howard. As bad as he is, he beats the vaunted Caracter/Walton duo. And some half decent veteran PF will sign their on the cheap for a shot at a championship.

This just in: Brandon Roy is done. on Yahoo.

Brandon Roy is set to retire, way earlier than he should have to
By Kelly Dwyer

It was knee trouble that moved several teams to pass on Brandon Roy in the 2006 draft, until the Portland Trail Blazers swung a trade to acquire him with the sixth pick in 2006. It was knee trouble that limited his minutes in the years following, that put him on the shelf for months at a time, and that led us to cheer for the star-in-waiting as a martyr-on-court as he seemed to overcome the trouble in a thrilling performance during last spring's playoffs.
It's knee trouble, we're told, that is going to end the 27-year old's career sooner rather than later. ESPN's Chris Broussard first reported the news, and Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski offered these details on Friday morning:
Portland's Brandon Roy has been diagnosed with a "career-ending (knee) injury," league source confirms to Y! Sports. "He's done."
And it's so incredibly sad.
Just two years ago, Roy was nipping on Kobe Bryant's heels. His per game numbers were limited due to Portland's league-slowest pace, but when you accounted for that pace his accomplishments were substantial. He managed a Player Efficiency Rating of 24 at age 24 (Kobe's career PER, for comparison's sake, is 23.5), all while working with a Blazers team that seemed on the cusp of greatness, behind their three-time All-Star.
In April of the following year, Roy tore the meniscus in his right knee. He returned too soon to play in that spring's playoffs, and the combination of that tear, his lack of cartilage following a 2008 operation, and his career-long discomfort with both of his knees resulted in a 2010-11 campaign that was more frustrating than promising.
The highlight of that deadening season was clearly the dominant showcase that Roy put on during Game 3 of the Blazers' opening round series against Dallas, one that saw Roy score 16 points 23 minutes off of the Portland bench. This not only allowed Blazers fans to assume that an offseason of rest, coupled with the extended lockout, could have Roy back and firing at his 2009 levels once the 2011-12 season eventually tipped off. When word came of an amnesty provision in the newest collective bargaining agreement, one that would allow teams to cut highly-paid players like Roy in order to save salary cap space, fans of 29 other teams wondered if theirs could be the one to pick up Roy as he worked his way back to health.
The bone-on-bone situation in his knee, sadly, will be too much to overcome. Cartilage protects too much, and a lack of it hinders way, way too much for those attempting to perform at this level. Roy, for all his gifts, will not be able to overcome something he's lacking in centimeters.
To have this happen in Portland, following the star-crossed careers of Bill Walton, Sam Bowie, and Greg Oden? It seems just as unfair to the fans as it does to the 27-year old who will have to retire before he even hits his prime.

Let's see, our front court couldn't hang with the big boys last year, and all we've done to get better is maybe lost McDyess or just gotten even older with him. Neither is really an improvement.

Our starting SF sucked so much at the end of last year that he got benched in the end, and all we've done to get better there is release him? I guess we can hope Andersen steps in, but he's basically a rookie still and I think more of a SG. And forget Leonard, he might get some fun time like rookies do with Pop, but he'll be lucky to make the playoff roster.

NBA teams informed of key dates today, sources say. Window to amnesty players is Dec. 9 (today) thru Dec. 16. Trade deadline is March 15

One more note for when games actually start: From Dec. 25-Feb. 6, NBA teams allowed to dress/play 13 guys per game, one more than usual 12

Jesus Christ, whoever let him shoot that many threes should be fucking fired. I hope all of them were half court shots at the end of quarters. Seriously, who the fuck thinks it's a good idea for every single person on the team to get shots? So what if he never takes a shot that isn't a put-back? The Spurs have plenty of guys who can shoot. What they need is someone who can defend. Did we miss the playoffs?

I'm talking more about how SF are used in our system. You realize our SFs get 7 open looks from long range in 1 game the way he have it set up. Them being able to play 5 on 4 on defense isn't exactly recipe for success. Unless were willing to change the offense up a bit.

Agreed. Thornton averaged 21 points per game with them. Seems a little premature to give him that much money based on just a handful of games though.

I see what you're saying. If that's the case, then Matt Bonner shouldn't be such a disaster. The Spurs have never relied on the three this much and had success doing it. The Spurs are not going to have easy threes like they did when Tim Duncan was dominant just because they're running plays to get them or stocking the roster with shooters. I'd much rather have four guys doing all the scoring if I know it's going to be a 70-85 point game. Maybe that's pie in the sky, but defense never takes a night off.

Yeah, well either way I'd rather be a defensive team who can't hit 3s than a 3 pt shooting team who cant defend. So I ultimately agree.

As you said, if the Spurs system is to shoot that many threes then it's time to change it up. Happy mediums are probably the best way to go about it.
