I think Lesnar's new contract with WWE is ridiculous. I heard he only has to work 2 dates per month and even then, I heard his next appearance will be the Monday before SummerSlam!

I agree, but I guess the WWE figures a little bit of Lesnar for a year is better than nothing. I would think they'd want Lesnar there for the 1000th show, but knowing him he won't show up if it isn't in the contract.

Funny thing is that I could care less about Brock Lesnar being in the WWE. It was cool to see him back on Raw after WM but he's already grown old on me and he's not even on TV anymore.

Yep. These new wrestlers lack charisma, and are unfortunately somewhat limited by the PG-13 rate. Only one that could last in the attitude era on the mic is CM Punk. I think Daniel Bryan is a faggot and shouldn't be a wrestler, IMO. Sheamus needs some fucking charisma. WWE needs to find characters who have the physical build and charisma to pull off their act. This shit nowadays is so predictable and cheesy that it makes it discomforting that I waste time in watching it.

Same thing with Sting at 36 and Hitman at 10, though I think that Eddie and RVD did the Frog Splash differently enough to warrant them sharing the list. And Hogan's shitty leg drop at 7 is way worse than the Pedigree at 3. Fuck that TOSB.

The rasslin' has been sucking since the late 80's.

But even then it never matched up to the days of....

Gorgeous George
"Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers
Lou Thesz
Verne Gagne
Killer Kowalski
Dick the Brusier
The Sheik
Freddie Blassie
Edouard Carpentier
Bruno Sammartino
Ray Stevens
Fritz Von Erich
Bobo Brazil
Antonio Rocca
Johnny Valentine
Crusher Lisowski

back in the days of the NWA, AWA, WWWF, WWA.

Back before all the bullshit.

If we took the top 10 rasslers of all time only Hogan and Flair would be on the list from those who were post 1970's.

The Lesnar vs Triple HHH situation has no heat, both aren't rasslin'. Now take into consideration the non talented John Cena is the current megastar of the biz, yikes!

@ VBM (Assuming you follow this company more frequently than any of us on this site)... if you stumble on this thread:

What the fuck is going on in today's WWE and what are they trying to do with their angles?

I still watch Raw more often than not, and I'll stream a PPV here or there when possible.

WWE has been locked into hooking the youngins ever since Rock/Stone Cold moved on. It's the Hogan philosophy with John Cena playing the new "each your vitamins, say your prayers, I'm a fake marine" schtick-ster. I will give WWE props for beginning to showcase the talent that doesn't look completely roided out (CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler (unfortunate name, tbh)). The importance of mic skills was showcased during the "Summer of Punk" last year, and Punk and Bryan are two of the best right now.

With that said, I think the writers are so worried about crossing Vinnie Mac or telling him "No!" that their angles sometimes just crash and burn. Whatever WWE fans are left simply hope that one out of every 20 angles gets a chance to run its course. > The crazy AJ Lee angle for example.

Has there ever been a time in WWWF/WWF/WWE history when the talent pool was as shallow as it is right now? They have to manufacture name rasslers. Here it is 2012 and nobody currently on the roster comes remotely close to Buddy Rogers, Hulk Hogan, Stonecold, Shawn. Sad to see.

I was looking for some old Buddy Rogers stuff when I found this. If you aren't into the history of it all, cool. If you are then you know just how big a deal this was. Talkin' rasslin' more so than the WWE.

It's pretty shallow right now. You've got Cena, Punk, Bryan and then there's a drop-off. Can't say that it isn't WWE's fault for not developing them right though. They have yet to let Bryan show his full potential in a match. I've seen Bryan perform much better elsewhere than in his best performances with WWE so far.

I have no doubt that this 1000th Raw is going to be epic, but I just can't see how the WWE thinks they can sustain a 3 hour show after the 1000th Raw when they have a hard time creating substance with the current 2 hour Raw.

Word is they're considering doing a "pre-game" type show similar to what we see prior to the start of an NBA or NFL game, and that will take up the majority of the first hour.

Daniel Bryan isn't horrible. The Gimmick they have him on is horrible. It's catchy, but it's fucking annoying at times as well. That's always been a huge problem of WWE's for some reason. They sign a huge name and then don't ever use them the correct way.

He apparently was reckless in the ring and injured some guys (namely Randy Orton, who was rumored to be behind Kennedy's firing). It's too bad, he was entertaining on the mic.

Wrestling-Inc:

"WWE's creative committee appears to be leaning toward CM Punk retaining the WWE Championship next Monday on Raw SuperShow when John Cena cashes in his Money in the Bank contract. According to PWInsider.com, there is a lot of talk within the organization that Cena will be the first person to not win a title directly after cashing in the briefcase."

WWE can go many ways with this. I like it.

I was watching some old wwf matches on Netflix today, and Shawn micheals in his prime was a bad motherfucker. I always liked Shawn as a kid, but now that I'm older I can really appreciate his skills in the ring. There is some good old school shit on Netflix if anyone wants to check it out.

Yeah..I don't see Cena winning it on Monday either, though I do see him getting the belt back in the fall. I hear Vince has a huge plan for a major angle that will get started at the end of the 1000th show. I'm so fucking pumped about this episode. Gonna be amazing. I also hear Taker is going to return there...just another rumor.

No....just no.

And where's Mr. Perfect? British Bulldog? You have Lex Freaking Luger ahead of Macho Man? Best Post '70s wrestlers? Where's Ric Flair? Undertaker? Mick Foley? Son..did you just copy and paste off some website mentioning names of good wrestlers? You need to brush up on your knowledge. The gall of putting Goldberg ahead of ANY of the names I just mentioned...just fucking ridiculous.

That's a lot better...But still way off in my opinion. The greatest of all time imo is HBK. Nobody put his body on the line more and had better mic work than Shawn. He was a natural. And Austin, Taker, HHH and Savage all deserve to be above Rhodes...I'd say Rock does too. Rhodes should be 9th, if in the top 10 at all. I think you're overrating him immensely. I'd put Perfect ahead of him, honestly.

You must not know much about the American Dream.

Shawn Michaels was never on a par with Hogan or Flair, never! Im talking impact, not rasslin' skills. As we know mic skills/selling your character are above actual ring talent.

100% agree

Who does he belong ahead of?

If we're going impact, Austin is Top 3 at least. He ushered in the Attitude era, which saved wrestling in it's modern state. Without Austin there is no Attitude era. Without the Attitude Era, wrestling isn't what it is today. Therefore, in your comment about impact being most important, it could be argued that Austin is #1 all time.

Who does he belong ahead of?

Steve Austin is the most popular wrestler of all time, and he did it in about a four year span. He brought in a whole different demographic to who was watching wrestling, probably sold more merchandise than anyone ever has, and like the poster above mentioned was the leader of the attitude era. Without the attitude era wwe would probably be bankrupt right now. I would have him at one or two only behind Hogan because of the impact of the nWo.

I agree with you 95% on this one. Hogan would probably be number one ahead of Austin but not because of the impact of the nWo. I think the impact behind Hulkamania was bigger than the impact behind the nWo. Without Hulkamania, wrestling isn't around at all.

I didnt mean because of the NWO by itself, but add that to Hulkamania and together that might put that above Stone Cold. But overall Austin was way more entertaining.

By a long shot. And the beauty of it all was the gimmick came from his head. It was just him. That's why it worked so well. He was able to be himself. That and a ruthless criminal (can't remember the name) were the inspiration for the don't give a shit attitude Stone Cold. Awesome.

Steve was Vince's main weapon in the Monday night battles against wcw. He was such a creative genius that you had to see what he was going to do next which started to give wwe the upper hand. We agree completely on that. Austin is my favorite. HBK is the best showman. With Austin, the only way WCW held on to the lead was giving away what Raw was going to do. Funny thing was, that's also what killed them. When they announced Mick Foley was going to win the world title for the first time, everyone changed the channel and WCW never won again.

I get this impression a lot of you started watching rasslin in the last 10 years. If so then you are going to think those you watched/know about are the best. That simply isn't the case.

As we all know rasslin' has a cult following, it's not for everyone. We all have heard....you actually watch that fake shit:rolleyes.....I always reply...you watch movies, fake shit!.

Anyway...

Joe Public knows nothing about the strange world of pro wrestling. He however knows who Hulk Hogan is and probably knows that The Rock was a rassler. When guys like us talk about the rasslin' it's all about inside that world. The outside world doesn't care.

Rasslin' has it's legends...Strangler Lewis, Gorgeous George, Lou Thesz, "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers and on and on. So when we try to give these guys today/recently some props they are in competition with some huge stars in the biz. Forget the wrestling talent, as we know Kurt Angle, Cowboy Dick Hutton, Danny Hodge, Verne Gagne and Brock Lesnar were legit wrestlers, while Hulk Hogan couldn't wrestle a lick. Only Gagne would come anywhere close to Hogan as far as big name in the biz goes.

Shawn Michaels, Randy Savage, Steve Austin were all huge in the biz but keeping it in the biz they had nothing on Killer Kowalski, Dick the Brusier or Bruno Sammartion. The thing is big time nation wide tv vs local tv. I never saw those guys I mentioned on tv since I lived in Cali, I got Fred Blassie, Ray Stevens, Pepper Gomez, The Destroyer.

So when you try to put these recent guys on some level with legends keep in mind it's the exposure not so much the impact made inside the sport.

Dick the Brusier? Bruno Sammartion? If you're going to try to talk down to people, at least learn to spell. And the "rasslin" business as you put it is a MUCH bigger and better industry now than it was back then. I've watched since I was 5 years old, and it's gotten better even since then, in 1985. The industry isn't just about going out there looking angry at your opponent, throwing some moves out there, and walking out. If wrestling was just about that, nowadays, Shelton Benjamin would be a hall of famer, instead of fired from the WWE. You have to have more than just a decent look and the ability to take a bump. You have to have the ability to cut a good promo, you have to be able to act a little bit outside the ring as well as inside. Today's "entertainers" are better than yesterday's "rasslers" overall.

First off, Cena was in the attitude era...and was one of the most popular, with his Thuganomics character. He was a heel that everyone began to love, just like Austin and The Rock. The PG era killed him, and I'll agree with you that sucks, but these guys are only doing the best they can with what they're allowed to do, so you can't blame them..it's not their fault. And Taker is phenomenal, but he's not as good as HBK, Austin, or The Rock. Those guys were amazing because of their mic work. Taker didn't have near the mic work that the top performers at that time did, so he's not in the top 3 in my opinion. Oh, and if you truly believe Punk sucks, you're ignorant as shit. He's one of the best wrestlers in the last 20 years, and one of the best mic guys ever. Austin even said it.

Cena's mic skills are horrible he just has never sounded authentic ever & by popular do you mean with kids under the age of 12? Taker has never been a talker, I mean this is wrestling not a damn soap opera, Taker lets his performance do the talking, he lays it all on the line every single time he's in the ring. When does Cena? When does Punk? Punk is a joke & he also lacks that appearance of someone you'd think is wwe champion, Taker, Austin Rock & Michaels even Cena had that size or muscle tone you'd expect from a wwe champ, Punk does not. I'll give you this Punk isn't a bad wrestler but he's just not a cornerstone, he fits the RVD mold imo.

Meh...he's doing more action now. The Journey movie..or whatever the hell it is is a kid's flick, but before that, he hadn't really done a lot of kids flicks since The Tooth Fairy. He was a badass in Fast 5. Not a huge Rock fan, but I guarantee you Rock would never HAVE to come back to WWE...he just chooses to.

Spursfan092120
07-23-2012, 08:38 PM
imo the only thing they can do is have Cena v. Rock 2 at the Rumble, because Cena's the only guy they'd let beat him, after Rock beat him at WM, and they're not going to let Rock hold the belt...he won't be around enough.

It doesn't make any sense for Rock to win the belt. He will lose against whoever he faces, my bets are that person will be Cena.

yeah but between royal rumble and wrestlemania, Rock would have to make more frequented appearances on raw (and 2 ppv) between Jan 27 and April 7 (dates that royal rumble and wrestlemania fall on). I'm assuming this because I'm sure the company would want to flaunt it's champion on a weekly basis (and probably be put into some type of angle)...I just don't see how the company would go this far as to put Cena over the top...if so, then so be it.

Guess I was wrong.

Steve Austin posted a blog entry on BrokenSkullRanch.com about why he missed last night's historic 1,000th episode of RAW. Austin, who had been strangely quiet about last night's show for the past several weeks, revealed that he recently underwent major surgery on his left knee on July 2nd.
Austin noted that the surgery was a "complete success," however he is on crutches and began physical therapy a few days ago. He plans to lose the crutches in another week.

"STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN IS A 100% ASS KICKING MACHINE," Austin wrote. "There was no way I was going to limp down the ramp on crutches for RAW 1,000. It was time to get my knee fixed. The decision to no-show RAW 1,000 was made by me and no one else. I have always taken pride in making my shots and have never faked an injury or illness. Pro Wrestling is a tough game and it was time to pay the piper for some of the damage I incurred in the ring. No gripes. No complaints.

"To the fans that were hoping to see SCSA, I'm sorry I missed the show. I would have loved to be there under different circumstances. I normally keep my personal business to myself, but due to feedback and incorrect speculation, I have posted this blog and given the 411 on why I was not at RAW 1,000."

What are you wanting Cena to do? He can't be the old Cena anymore, the PG rating doesn't allow it. And everything he says is true..he is the hardest working sumbitch in the back..everyone knows it. What exactly is it you're wanting him to do? I don't understand people who hate him for no reason. He works his ass off, has amazing matches, hasn't had the belt or been in a title match for a year, so you can't use the "Oh, he's always on top" thing anymore. What is it that you don't like?

He's the face, no doubt. But the reason everyone hated him was because he was always champion. At least that's what they were saying...they wanted someone else to have the belt. Those people still hate him...there's not really a reason, they just do.

It was awesome to be at Raw tonight. After the cameras went out, Cena called out Shawn. Shawn said he wanted to keep it simple. That wasn't happening. HHH came out and they were talking. Punk came out completely out of character even saying he'd probably get in trouble for it, but didn't care. Talked about getting his autograph as a kid and still having it in his wallet. Vince came out and was out of character. Then....Undertaker. Lights out, lightning, smoke, and everything. Then, completely out of character. Hugs and everything. It was surreal. Santino lost to the guy with the really big nipples. Jericho beat Ziggler...pretty badass match, tbh. Daniel Bryan beat Kane with a small package...yeah...he beat Kane with a fucking small package. Like any of us are going to believe that shit. Miz beat Rey straight up. Sheamus beat Del Rio after the little barking chihuahua threw his shoe to Del Rio when the ref was trying to get the chihuahua out of the ring. Not paying attention, Sheamus caught the shoe and hit Del Rio with it. Then he gave him his crazy ass backbreaker move and beat him. Kofi and R-Truth beat the newly lonely Titus O'Neil and Darren Young. Punk won after Cena gave Show the AA and then Punk pushed Cena out of the ring and pinned him. Brock broke HHH's arm again and made him tap.
