Billionaire Outfit Recruits Trumpists To Fabricate ‘Voter Fraud’ Claims
the Voter Reference Foundation is analyzing state voter rolls in search of discrepancies between the number of ballots cast and the number of voters credited by the rolls as having participated in the Nov. 3, 2020 election.
The foundation, led by a former Trump campaign official and founded less than a year ago, has dismissed objections from election officials that its methodology is flawed and its actions may be illegal,
VoteRef, records show, is an initiative of the conservative nonprofit group Restoration Action and its related political action committee,
both led by Doug Truax, an Illinois insurance broker and podcaster who ran unsuccessfully in the state’s GOP primary for the U.S. Senate in 2014.
VoteRef’s origins and funders are closely linked to a super PAC predominantly funded by billionaire Richard Uihlein, founder of the mammoth Wisconsin-based packaging supply company Uline.
Uihlein and his wife, Elizabeth Uihlein, have contributed in excess of $30 million combined over two decades to mainly Republican candidates on the state and local level, particularly in Illinois and Wisconsin,

One of the GOP themes for next election.
The latest fear-mongering about immigrants supposedly stealing votes is just one line of attack among many, as Republicans have made immigration a focal point in the midterms and Republican governors face off with the Biden administration over what they paint as dire conditions at the border.

The magic (R) dispels any suspicion
City elections officials last week received applications from more than three dozen Republican voters across a pocket of the neighborhood. Those applications requested that mail ballots be delivered not to the voters’ homes, but to P.O. Box 54705, an address registered to a recently formed GOP political action committee, according to state data.
Many of those voters told The Inquirer they have no idea why their ballots were sent there. Some said they never even applied to vote by mail.
And yet one out of every six Republican ballot requests in the 26th Ward — the section of deep South Philly south of Passyunk Avenue and west of Broad Street that voted twice for Donald Trump — listed the post office box. That made it the largest single destination for ballots in the city other than nursing homes or elections offices.https://www.inquirer.com/politics/election/republican-mail-ballots-south-philadephia-20220506.html

A former Democrat congressman, who was expelled from the House of Representatives in 1980 after getting caught taking bribes in what turned out to be an FBI sting, pleaded guilty to multiple election fraud charges this week after the U.S. Department of Justice charged him with bribery, falsifying voting records, stuffing ballot boxes, and more election crimes in Pennsylvania.
According to U.S. Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams, 79-year-old Michael “Ozzie” Myers admitted to bribing Philadelphia election judge Domenick J. Demuro, who already pleaded guilty in 2020, during the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 state elections for $300 to $5,000 per election and then telling him to lie about falsely inflating votes.
Demuro, who “was responsible for overseeing the entire election process and all voter activities of his Division in accord with federal and state election laws,” then manipulated the voting machines in his respective ward and division in a way that satisfied Myers’ desire to “illegally add votes for certain candidates of their mutual political party in primary elections,” especially those clients who paid him “consulting fees.”
“Some of these candidates were individuals running for judicial office whose campaigns had hired Myers, and others were candidates for various federal, state, and local elective offices that Myers favored for a variety of reasons,” the DOJ noted in a press release.
Myers pulled the same stunt with another South Philadelphia election judge Marie Beren, who also pleaded guilty in 2021 to her role in the fraud.
“Myers acknowledged in court that on almost every Election Day, Myers transported Beren to the polling station to open the polls. During the drive to the polling station, Myers would advise Beren which candidates he was supporting so that Beren knew which candidates should be receiving fraudulent votes. Inside the polling place and while the polls were open, Beren would advise actual in-person voters to support Myers’ candidates and also cast fraudulent votes in support of Myers’ preferred candidates on behalf of voters she knew would not or did not physically appear at the polls,” the DOJ stated.
The pair also used cell phone communication to notate in real-time how many votes they faked versus how many were real.
“If actual voter turnout was high, Beren would add fewer fraudulent votes in support of Myers’ preferred candidates. From time to time, Myers would instruct Beren to shift her efforts from one of his preferred candidates to another. Specifically, Myers would instruct Beren ‘to throw support’ behind another candidate during Election Day if he concluded that his first choice was comfortably ahead,” the press release continued.
Much like Demuro, Beren then falsified poll books “by recording the names, party affiliation, and order of appearances for voters who had not physically appeared at the polling station to cast his or her ballot in the election” and balanced the list with the ballots recorded by voting machines before certifying the tainted results.
Myers’ guilty plea adds to the long list of systemic voting issues and election law violations already plaguing Pennsylvania, where voters recently waited weeks to hear the results of the U.S. Senate Republican primary.

She first came to national attention when she spoke last year at a conference hosted by MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, one of the most prominent election deniers in the country.

"Stop the Steal"
Rep. Lee Zeldin made a national name for himself by fanning unfounded and false claims of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election. But in his race for governor, he may now be a perpetrator of fraud after the Libertarian Party claimed that his campaign photocopied petition signatures.
The Zeldin campaign recently submitted petitions to appear on the Independence Party line, a now-defunct third party that lost its automatic ballot access (https://www.cityandstateny.com/politics/2020/11/only-two-minor-parties-in-new-york-will-keep-their-ballot-access/175486/) following the 2020 election. For that reason, it needed to go through the independent petitioning process of gathering 45,000 signatures across the state. A cursory review of the filing passed muster, but Andrew Kolstee, secretary of the Libertarian Party (which also lost its ballot access in 2020) filed an objection, alleging that over 11,000 of the submitted signatures were photocopies of other pages.

unauthorized access to voting machine did not turn up evidence of 2020 election fraud or voting machine problems, but it is a crime in Michigan and it has been linked to a Michigan AG candidate.
Reuters established the connection between Michigan’s DePerno and the Richfield voting-system breach by matching the serial number of the township’s tabulator to a photograph in a publicly released report written by a member of DePerno’s team. The photograph showed a printed record of a vote-tabulator’s activity, which also included a string of ten digits. Reuters confirmed that those numbers matched the serial number of a Richfield vote tabulator through public records obtained from the township. State officials had previously identified Richfield as the site of a voting-equipment security breach.
DePerno had submitted the report as evidence in a failed lawsuit challenging the 2020 election results in a different Michigan county, Antrim. The report claimed that Dominion and ES&S election equipment was vulnerable to hacking and vote-rigging.
Reuters asked an election-security expert to review the materials. Kevin Skoglund, president and chief technologist for the nonpartisan Citizens for Better Elections, an election-security advocacy organization, said the matching numbers indicate that DePerno’s team had access to the Richfield Township tabulator or its data drives.
DePerno led the "Michigan Antrim County Election Lawsuit & Investigation Team,” which included himself, Detroit attorney Stefanie Lambert, private investigator Michael Lynch, and James Penrose, a former analyst for the National Security Agency, according to promotional material for a July 2021 fundraising event in California sponsored by a conservative group that advertised appearances by DePerno’s team members. Penrose, who had assisted other prominent Trump allies in their efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, authored the report that Reuters tied to a tabulator involved in the Richfield Township security breach.
Lambert, Lynch and Penrose did not respond to requests for comment.

Washington, D.C., may soon do away with voter registration as most Americans know it. Under a new bill (https://lims.dccouncil.gov/Legislation/B24-0951), set to have its first council hearing on Friday, D.C. would mail ballots to people it knows are eligible, even if they are not registered.
Drawing inspiration from Colorado, which many voting-rights experts characterize as the national standard (https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/07/colorado-automatic-voter-registration-elections/661475/) for accessibility, the city would take information it collects when residents interact with the Department of Motor Vehicles and other agencies to maintain a constantly-updating list of people who are “preapproved” to vote. For people on that list, all there would be left to do is to vote come election time.

According to audio and video recordings of RNC staffers obtained by Politico,
these recruits will have direct access to party lawyers via live chat on Election Day.
The RNC also has identified
GOP-friendly district attorneys willing to intervene on the spot to block vote counts at certain precincts.
Another part of the strategy is to
install election deniers on the local boards,
such as a Board of Canvassers, that are responsible for certifying election results.
So the scenario the GOP is setting up, Politico reports, is this:
Install politically motivated poll workers who hook up with zealous local lawyers to disrupt voting.
Then file a challenge with the Board of Canvassers claiming that there is so much chaos and disruption at the polling place (which they caused),
that GOP-controlled state legislatures have to intervene to declare the winners --
Republican candidates who actually lost at the ballot box.
"This is completely unprecedented in the history of American elections
that a political party would be working at this granular level to put a network together,"
Nick Penniman, founder and CEO of Issue One, an election watchdog group, told Politico.
"It looks like now the Trump forces are going directly after the legal system itself and that should concern everyone."

The Republican elections board commissioner in upstate Rensselaer County was arrested Tuesday on charges of carrying out a brazen ballot scheme that allowed him to cast votes in voters’ names.
Jason Schofield applied for absentee ballots for voters who did not want to vote, and, in some instances, personally pushed voters to sign absentee ballot envelopes, positioning himself or his associates to commit voter fraud in primary and general elections in 2021, according to court papers.
The 12-count indictment charging Schofield said ballots were counted from at least four voters who were instructed to sign ballot envelopes but were not allowed to complete them.
“Schofield was able to vote — or have other people vote — in the RVs’ names,” said the court papers, using an acronym for registered voters.

more balls than brains
Newly released videos show allies of former President Donald J. Trump and contractors who were working on his behalf handling sensitive voting equipment in a rural Georgia county weeks after the 2020 election.
The footage, which was made public as part of long-running litigation (https://casetext.com/case/curling-v-raffensperger-1) over Georgia’s voting system, raises new questions about efforts by Trump affiliates in a number of swing states to gain access to and copy sensitive election software, with the help of friendly local election administrators. One such incident took place on Jan. 7 of last year, the day after supporters of Mr. Trump stormed the Capitol, when a small team traveled to rural Coffee County, Ga. (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/27/us/georgia-trump-coffee-county-election.html)
The group included members of an Atlanta-based firm called SullivanStrickler, which had been hired by Sidney Powell, a lawyer advising Mr. Trump who is also a conspiracy theorist.
“We are on our way to Coffee County, Ga., to collect what we can from the election/voting machines and systems,” one of the company’s executives, Paul Maggio, wrote Ms. Powell on that January morning. Weeks later, Scott Hall, an Atlanta-area Trump supporter and bail bondsman who also traveled to Coffee County, said “we scanned every freaking ballot” in a recorded phone conversation (https://www.dropbox.com/s/5iuhdxybkhg1pii/Scott%20Hall%20March%207%2C%202021.m4a?dl=0).

Winehole23

The new videos also show that some of the Trump allies who visited Coffee County were given access to a storage room, and that various people affiliated with Mr. Trump’s campaign, or his allies, had access to the building over several days.
The new footage also shows Cathy Latham, then the head of the county’s Republican Party, with members of the Trump team, standing together in an office where the county’s poll pads were laid out on a table. Ms. Latham is among the targets of a criminal investigation in Atlanta, related to her participation as one of an alternate slate of electors who tried to overturn Mr. Trump’s loss in Georgia. That investigation, which is being led by Fani T. Willis, the district attorney of Fulton County, has also touched on what took place in Coffee County.
In a court filing late Monday evening, the plaintiffs in the civil case assailed what they called “the persistent refusal of Latham and her counsel to be straight with this court about the facts.” They accused her of downplaying her involvement with the Trump team when “she literally directed them on what to collect in the office.”

Wohl and Burkman plead guilty to fraud.
Two right-wing conspiracy theorists who placed thousands of robocalls with false information to largely minority and Democratic voters in Cleveland in the months before the November 2020 election pleaded guilty on Monday to a felony charge.
Jacob Wohl, 24, of Irvine, California, and Jack Burkman, 56, of Arlington, Virginia, face a maximum of a year in prison after they pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree felony charge of telecommunications fraud.

The two were charged in October 2020 (https://www.cleveland.com/court-justice/2020/11/right-wing-hoaxers-jacob-wohl-jack-burkman-plead-not-guilty-in-cleveland-in-robocall-case.html)after prosecutors said their group, Project 1599, placed more than 3,500 robocalls that spread misinformation to targeted voters on Cleveland’s East Side and in East Cleveland (https://www.cleveland.com/court-justice/2020/10/right-wing-hoaxers-jacob-wohl-and-jack-burkman-hit-with-felony-charges-in-cleveland-tied-to-multi-state-voter-robocall-campaign.html).
The calls featured a woman warning voters against being “finessed into giving your private information to the man” and that if they voted by mail, police and debt-collection agencies would use their personal information to arrest them for outstanding warrants or collect outstanding debts, according to court filings. The call also claimed the U.S. Centers for Disease Control could use their information to institute a mandatory vaccination program.
Both claims are false.
The calls were among more than 85,000 total that prosecutors said specifically targeted minority voters in heavily democratic areas in Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, New York City and Cleveland.

The court docket in Schofield's federal criminal case indicates that the notice of his change-of-plea hearing was filed on Dec. 13. Later that day, the Rensselaer County Legislature voted 16-2 (https://www.timesunion.com/news/article/Rensselaer-County-Democrats-split-over-elections-17654455.php) to appoint Schofield to a second, four-year term as elections commissioner along with Democrat Mary Sweeney, who is succeeding retiring Commissioner Ed McDonough. It's unclear whether he GOP legislators who supported Schofield's re-appointment — at a time when he was facing federal criminal charges — were aware that he had agreed earlier that day to plead guilty to the charges and step down.https://www.timesunion.com/state/article/Rensselaer-elections-commissioner-to-plead-guilty-17681350.php

Another Repug
Upstate NY County Elections Commissioner to plead Guilty to Voter Fraud
Rensselaer County Elections Commissioner Jason Schofield (R)
has a January court date to enter a change of plea, for Voter Fraud charges, stemming from an investigation of voter fraud by the United States Department of Justice.
Apparently this guy has realized how deep the poo he is in is and has decided to cooperate with the investigation.
Considering he was looking at 12 counts, with up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine attached to each count,
it is not a big surprise that once he figured out that he is not invulnerable, he changed his mind.
The allegations are that he obtained personal information,
applied for and filed absentee ballots from at least 8 people who did not intend to vote in last year’s primary and general elections.
It has been reported that in some cases he actually went to see the people whose information he was using and got them to sign the envelopes.

Arizona’s Supreme Court on Wednesday denied a request from Kari Lake to hear her lawsuit disputing her loss last year in the governor’s race. The lawsuit was based on what the court said was a false claim by Ms. Lake, a Republican, that more than 35,000 unaccounted ballots were accepted.
In a five-page order written by Chief Justice Robert Brutinel, the court determined that a vast majority of Ms. Lake’s legal claims, which had earlier been dismissed by lower courts, lacked merit.
“The Court of Appeals aptly resolved these issues,” Chief Justice Brutinel wrote, adding that the “petitioner’s challenges on these grounds are insufficient to warrant the requested relief under Arizona or federal law.”

She basically lost that case in the AZ Supreme Court:
The highest court in Arizona is giving former gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake another day to fight in court regarding the 2022 election. The Arizona Supreme Court said in paperwork filed on Wednesday the justices are granting the review of one of her seven claims. The complaint challenges how the Maricopa County recorder applied its signature verification policies during the election. The Supreme Court said since it was a challenge of application, not the policies themselves, it could move to a trial court. The Supreme Court won’t hear the case.
As for the other six challenges, the Supreme Court said they were focused on the proceedings in the trial court and were made on “insufficient” grounds. Also in the Supreme Court’s order were possible sanctions for Lake’s claim that “35,563 unaccounted-for ballots were added to the total of ballots at a third-party processing facility.”

missed this one the first time around, there's just so many GOP shenanigans to keep up with
A former upstate New York election official pleaded guilty on Wednesday to federal identity theft charges arising from his fraudulent use of voters’ personal information to apply for a dozen absentee ballots in 2021.
In entering his plea in U.S. District Court in Albany, the former official, Jason Schofield (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/13/nyregion/election-fraud-ny.html), admitted to requesting the bogus ballots through a state website in his role as the Republican election commissioner in Rensselaer County, federal prosecutors said in a news release.
The voters whose names and birth dates Mr. Schofield, 43, used to obtain the ballots either had no interest in voting, absentee or otherwise; had not asked for absentee ballots or his help in getting them; or did not know what he was doing with their information, the indictment says.
In several instances, the indictment says, Mr. Schofield had the voters whose names he had used illicitly sign the envelopes the ballots were to be returned in without completing the ballots themselves. That allowed him to fill out the ballots himself and deliver them to the county elections board for processing, the indictment says.
Mr. Schofield, a county election commissioner from April 2018 until his resignation last month, admitted on Wednesday that he had falsely certified on the ballot applications that he was the voter requesting the ballots, prosecutors said.
He also admitted taking possession of nine of the 12 ballots despite knowing that county election records would show they had gone to the voters whose information he used in the scheme, prosecutors said.https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/11/nyregion/voter-fraud-election-official-guilty.html (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/11/nyregion/voter-fraud-election-official-guilty.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur)

vote fraudster convicted
James Saunders, the 56-year-old Shaker Heights tax attorney convicted last week of voting multiple times in the last two general elections, was sentenced to three years in prison, a judge decided Monday morning.
Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Andrew Santoli coupled Saunders' sentence with a $10,000 fine, a punishment, as Santoli detailed in last week's hearing, to match the severe violation against the nation's voting laws.https://www.clevescene.com/news/shaker-heights-trump-supporter-convicted-of-voter-fraud-gets-three-years-in-prison-42641089

Officially not an expert.
Garland Favorito, co-founder of Voters Organized for Trusted Election Results in Georgia, or VoterGA, spoke of defective voting machines and dead voters while declining to answer direct questions about the accuracy of methods used to assert his claims.
Favorito testified as a defense witness Thursday after the court denied defense motions to name him an expert, which he said affected his ability to respond to questions about the accurate way to compare voter rolls to determine whether ballots were cast in dead people’s name.

more voter fraud at The Villages
According to a complaint filed by Sumter County Elections Supervisor Bill Keen with the Florida Office of Election Crimes and Security (https://dos.myflorida.com/elections/for-voters/elections-integrity/), Rivernider is accused of signing a vote-by-mail ballot for his father in 2020. Keen said the ballot was signed and dated Oct. 16, 2020, but postmarked on Oct. 23, 2020.
However, Keen said Rivernider’s father died on Oct. 19, 2020. Keen also said a comparison of the signatures between father and soon appeared to be similar in 2020. However, Keen said previous versions of the father’s signature were different.
Rivernider is a Republican Party activist, with a website (http://thevillagesgop.com/?fbclid=IwAR3G-9jab4wZPBSYiesjdgYA2nVnaZScO-z8r0PEm9V6v60mo1zf0u3dg3Q) that touts his experience with several party campaigns, including the Trump and Bush/Cheney presidential campaigns and the Laura Loomer congressional campaign in 2022.
Rivernider also served time 80 months in federal prison for mortgage fraud, which he was sentenced for in 2013. He was granted compassionate release in May 2020.
Several residents from The Villages have faced charges in the last few years for voter fraud related to the 2020 election. News 6 has reported that at least four Villages residents were charged with voting twice in the election (https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2023/01/30/4th-resident-of-the-villages-admits-to-voting-twice-in-the-2020-election/). A jury spent about five hours deliberating before convicting Kim Phuong Taylor on 52 counts of voter fraud in federal court Tuesday in Sioux City. Taylor faces up to five years in prison on each count. A sentencing date hasn’t been set.
Prosecutors say Taylor took advantage of other Vietnamese immigrants by illegally filling out election forms and ballots. Her husband, Jeremy Taylor, lost a GOP primary for the U.S. House and won election to the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors in 2020.
Court documents say Woodbury County Sheriff Chad Sheehan was going to testify about comments Jeremy Taylor made to him as Sheehan was running for sheriff in 2020. Sheehan says Taylor told him he had a “lock” on voting in the Vietnamese community, and for a campaign donation, he could secure 500 to 700 votes for the future sheriff. Even though Brown said Sheehan would appear during the trial, he did not, nor did former Woodbury County Supervisor Rocky DeWitt. Brown said Jeremy Taylor denied both men a raise.https://www.iowapublicradio.org/ipr-news/2023-11-21/woodbury-county-supervisors-wife-found-guilty-of-52-counts-of-voter-fraud

sore loser solutions still searching for an actual problem
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, has been monitoring election fraud (https://www.heritage.org/voterfraud/#choose-a-state) cases state by state. Election fraud covers a range of activities — such as registering someone to vote and forging their signature, filling out an absentee ballot for someone who has died or moved away, voting while ineligible, or pretending to be someone else at the polling place and voting. They find that there have been 1,465 proven cases of election fraud — 1,264 of these resulted in criminal prosecutions and the remainder resulted in civil prosecutions, diversion programs, judicial findings, or official findings.
These may sound like big numbers, however, they must be examined in context. The findings encompass more than a decade of data during which, nationally, hundreds of millions of votes have been cast. For instance, in Texas, Heritage found 103 cases of confirmed election fraud. However, those 103 ranged from 2005 to 2022 during which time over 107 million ballots were cast. There were 11 million ballots cast in the 2020 presidential election alone. The fraud in Texas amounted to 0.000096% of all ballots cast — hardly evidence of a fundamentally corrupt system.
Of course, true conspiracy believers will argue that Trump opponents knew that Trump was going to win Texas, so they didn’t bother to commit fraud there — fraud was only rampant in the swing states. But the story is much the same in swing states. For instance, in Arizona, where President Biden won by a mere (https://azsos.gov/sites/default/files/2020_General_State_Canvass.pdf) 10,457 votes in 2020, Heritage documents just four cases of fraudulent voting in the general election. Furthermore, while former Republican gubernatorial candidate and 2024 Senate candidate Kari Lake falsely claimed (https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/31/politics/fact-check-kari-lake-140k-fraudulent-ballots/index.html) widespread fraud following her loss in 2022, there have been zero reported cases from that year thus far. To put these cases (or lack thereof) in perspective, Arizonans cast over 6 million votes in the 2020 and 2022 general elections. There is also minimal evidence to suggest that the few fraudulent votes benefitted Democratic candidates. In one 2020 case, a 64-year-old Arizona Republican cast a Republican ballot on behalf of her deceased mother in an apparent effort (https://news.yahoo.com/arizona-woman-voted-her-dead-123000342.html) to counteract what she believed was widespread voter fraud by Democrats.
Other swing states have also recorded negligible numbers of election fraud. In Georgia, Heritage has reported no cases of fraud in the 2020 or 2022 general elections, in which nearly nine million votes (https://results.enr.clarityelections.com/GA/) were cast. Otherwise, just one case of fraud (http://thf-legal.s3.amazonaws.com/Voter%20Fraud%20Database/43rd%20batch/William%20Chase%202022%20GA%20Source%202.pdf) has been reported in the state in the last four years. It involved a 62-year-old convicted felon who filled out and submitted a ballot sent to the wrong address during the January 2021 Senate runoff election. And yet Trump’s attempts to overturn the election results in Georgia are based on his assertion that there was enough voter fraud to flip the state.
In Florida, there were nine cases of election fraud between the 2020 and 2022 elections but many of those involved individuals who were confused over whether or not they had the right to vote (https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/florida-changes-law-boost-unjust-voter-fraud-prosecutions).
In 2018, voters in the state passed a constitutional amendment allowing people convicted of felonies to vote once they had served their time. Subsequently the Florida legislature passed a law requiring felons to pay all fines before they could vote. In fact, some of those convicted of voter fraud were even given a Florida voter ID card and specifically told by local election officials (https://www.splcenter.org/news/2023/08/11/florida-laws-criminalize-voting-returning-citizens) that they would be able to vote. This was contested as a violation of the constitutional ban on poll taxes. The administrative back and forth left some would-be voters confused about their right to vote (or rather, lack thereof). Whether or not this is evidence of widespread fraud is questionable to say the least.

A succession of Republican state officials, including Byrd and Ashley Moody, the Florida attorney general, lauded Antonacci on his taxpayer-funded appointment in July 2022 (https://www.flgov.com/2022/07/06/governor-ron-desantis-announces-the-appointment-of-peter-antonacci-as-director-of-the-office-of-election-crimes-and-security/) to clamp down on election fraud that did not, by any discernible measure, exist in the state.https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/nov/27/florida-ron-desantis-official-dead-meeting-hallway

appeals court acquits Crystal Mason for casting a provisional ballot that was never counted, while she was on felony probation
The ruling (https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24523532-crystal-mason-court-of-appeals-overturn-conviction-ruling) from the Second Court of Appeals in Texas is the culmination of a seven-year battle that began when the 49-year-old woman was charged with illegally voting in the 2016 election, as Law&Crime previously reported (https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/crystal-mason-asks-states-highest-criminal-appeals-court-to-overturn-her-conviction/). That ballot was ultimately not even cast, but Mason was found guilty nonetheless.
From the outset, Mason said she was unaware that she was ineligible to vote in 2016 as a felon on supervised release for a federal tax crime. She told prosecutors that a poll worker had assisted her when she went to the booths in Tarrant County that year and it was under that guidance that she cast her ballot.
Reasonable belief that she simply did not know she was ineligible went to the core of her appeal and to Justice Wade Birdwell’s opinion who wrote Thursday that one of the poll workers who claimed to have assisted her in 2016 essentially failed to do his due diligence.

This is a nice microcosm: black guy wins the election by 1 vote, Republican sore losers lodge an evidence free allegation that 11 people voted illegally and a court ordered a redo.
The result was identical.
This is what Rs plan to do in November: to spoil valid elections with spurious allegations of fraud.
The whole point of the voter fraud psyop is to create doubt -- and mass rage -- about elections whenever Democrats win.
Last November, a race to elect the sheriff of Caddo Parish, Louisiana (https://lailluminator.com/2023/12/06/caddo-sheriff/), came down to the slimmest of margins: a single vote.
After a recount, which affirmed the accuracy of the election results and should have ended the debate, the losing candidate, John Nickelson, challenged the outcome (https://bloximages.chicago2.vip.townnews.com/shreveportbossieradvocate.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/e/82/e82aa93e-93a9-11ee-93be-ab533de1c73e/656f832c93ca4.file.pdf). A state appeals court voted 3-2 that a redo election was merited due to the allegation that 11 illegal votes were cast in the election, making it “legally impossible to know what the true vote should have been (https://lailluminator.com/2023/12/06/caddo-sheriff/),” according to Louisiana Supreme Court Justice E. Joseph Bleich. In two separate dissents (https://www.scribd.com/document/691932471/Nickelson-vs-Whitehorn-ruling), judges who voted to uphold the election results stated there was “no evidence whatsoever” of voting irregularities that warranted overturning the twice-counted election results. Nevertheless, the court ordered the redo to be held, and the result was the same: Henry Whitehorn, a Black man, had to win his election twice. The message sent to voters in Caddo Parish was that every vote counts—most of the time.
Shortly before the Caddo Parish election in May 2023, the Texas legislature attempted to pass a law allowing the secretary of state to nullify and redo election results in Harris County (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2022-election/texas-senate-passes-bill-allowing-secretary-state-overturn-elections-h-rcna82631) if two percent of the county’s polling places ran out of ballots during voting hours. To be sure, running out of ballots is no election official’s idea of a good day. However, a ballot shortage is a solvable problem, one that officials across the country effectively avoid year in and year out with proper planning. And so last year, when the Texas legislature sought to pass this law, focusing only on Harris County—notably the state’s most diverse county—it set off our alarm bells. Like in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, it seemed an unusual and extreme remedy, far outsized to the problem it purportedly sought to address.
