Team's not good enough. He won't win MVP but he has a good shot at scoring title.
The refs give Russell such a long leash. He berates them after ever single call against him. He even does when he gets the calls too.
Surprised it took this long.

Russell trying to plead he wasn't arguing of course, but you gotta sleep in the bed you made all season.
Russell Westbrook scored 54 points on 43 shots, good for a 1.26 points-per-shot average. Over the past 30 years there have been 187 50-point games, only four of them have been less efficient.
Espn taking it to Russ. You know who two of those four are.... Mister Kobe Bryan. Can anyone prove that the chucker soul of Kobe migrated to Russ?

Devastating.
And why do people think guests can't beat okc unless Westbrook is suspended? The current okc is terribly defensively. Lillard will pound them. Westbrook will chuck ask right, chuck out of the playoffs.

Portland has nothing to play for. They will probably rest any player that has even a minor physical problem.

I find this to be very interesting..... so out of the 90 shot attempts that Okc took Westbrook took 43 but only had 54 points, talk about not being efficient. Far fromn a team player in my eyes

Westbrook was never a team player. It's all about getting his stats.

From OKC's perspective, this season has been a disaster in many ways, but the worst thing has been Westbrook's heroballing while Durant was hurt. The biggest problem this team already had was Russ wanting to shoot more than Durant, and now I'm sure he's more convinced than ever that he should lead the team in shot attempts. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if this is a bigger issue than ever next season, with the final result being that it turns out to be Durant's final season there.

WB is very talented but I wouldn't want to work with him. To much of a mixed bag and I don't know if you can reign it all in: throwing fits on the sidelines, yelling at refs, altercations with team mates..
Why go out and make trades to shore up depth if WB is just going to put it up 40 times a game? They never run plays, Brooks is terrible.

Kanter is a turnstile on defense, yet he was still good on offense shootin above 50% for the season. Westbrook is taking 22 shots a game and hitting only 42%. That was even when Ibaka was healthy and shooting 47%.

ISWYDT. Amazing how having an idiot who can't fucking shoot threes instead of Ray Allen can make a difference. If you watch the video of this from the inbounds, RW gets the ball on the right side of the floor with only Danny Green between him and the basket with about 13 seconds left. The left side is overloaded. So, what does he do? He dribbles over to the already crowded left side and chucks up a horrible shot off the shot clock.

Yeah, I just rewatched the 4th qtr and OT of game 6 and Westbrook's heroballing is ridiculous. Most of the time, he's not even looking for Durant. They have no ball movement at all, which is unforgivable when there are two players with that much talent on the floor at the same time. Westbrook relies 100% on natural talent and 0% on BBIQ.

Big difference here. Mr Tony parker, in his prime, would be banging swift. Russell has to go fan girl, buy a ticket. Better player, probably a better career too. And Tony was lucky to not live in the Instagram slut era. But for real, let's recognize game here.

I have come to appreciate him too. He's about as alpha as you can get in basketball. Always plays with effort and to win. He has no coast-through-the-season state. Has improved his decision making a whole lot. He's one of those guys I will miss in basketball when his athleticism declines. Have to enjoy watching him play while he's going all out like he was last year. I wish him and Durant to be healthy this year. It's really a shame when the best players in the league get injured. It makes for a less fun product, when games are really no contest. I would have loved to have seen a fully healthy Cavs vs GSW last finals. As it was, the outcome was decided unless GSW choked. I wish all these playoff teams to be healthy this year. It will be epic.

Westbrook when dialed and focused is easy top 3-5 of the league... he has yet to prove he is capable to keep his cool over a season
Untill now when you play OKC you still have hope dude will lose his cool, start chucking 10 bad shots in a row, forget his teammate and lose the game for his team.
If his coach can control him and help keep his cool during a PO run, OKC will ring... So far it has not been the case, compared to his potential he is a significant underachiever... Thread would call him a loser.

Good take. He is an absolutely prodigious talent. Up there with LeBron IMHO. If under reasonable control OKC is tough to beat. That's why I was actually modestly pleased with the game on Wed. Westbrook played to his potential and a Spurs team on the road not quite in sync almost won.

In terms of talent and physical tools I fully agree, the closest thing is Lebron tbh... but when Lebron took shitty teams to finals and won 2 rings with a good roster, Westbrook went to one final.
Of course it is much easier to make the finals in the east but point remains lebron is a clear example of maximizing his talent while Westbrook has a clear tendency to waste it by being a bonehead when it matters the most.

Just watch the highlight video of Westbrooks game against the Spurs. A few observations from the video. 1. The spurs were terrible at defending picks. Once OKC set a pick Westbrook was able to easily drive to the basket. The Spurs help defense has to be a lot better. 2. Danny Green got lazy a few times and allowed Westbrook to easily drive by him. 3. Westbrook hit a good amount of contested jumpshots. 4. Westbrook scored on every defender the spurs threw on him Ginobili,Green,Mills,Parker. 5. As much as people hate Parker his defense wasn't bad he did a decent job guarding Westbrook.

Dion didn't wasn't able to drive to the hole against Parker so yeah I would say Parker's defense was decent. Dion hit two contested jump shots against Parker. Dion is a streaky player just like JR Smith. He has the tendency to hit bs shots every now and then. Unfortunately it happened against the Spurs.

Unbelievable.. it's like he was playing alone.
High screen with Adams and go hard to the basket every time from the 4th quarter.
I also think the constant attention teams give to his drives to the basket makes it easier for the Thunder to grab more offensive rebounds
I like the Magic and I hated that they let him take a comfortable shot at the end of regulation after that great shot by Oladipo.

OKC's just fucking ridiculous. And I mean that in a "they scored 139 points tonight and STILL got more than 50% of those points from just Westbrook and KD" way. It's almost like this is their default mode, and then they play the Spurs, and suddenly they're the one of the most potent, well-rounded offensive teams in the league. 18 points down against Orlando? No biggie, just let KD and Westbrook do everything, including tie the game from almost half court.

It always seems to happen against the Spurs, it's not a coincidence anymore when a scrub has a great game against them Slicer. Fortunately they have 5 titles and win a lot more than they lose or else it would drive a fan mad. The most flukish b.s. happens against the Spurs it seems.

There a problem and a very tough match up for the Spurs. Those two on talent alone can carry a team to 50 plus wins.

They are. It's no disrespect to those two players, they're immensely talented. Westbrook is obnoxious as all hell but he's a competitor. I just can't ever see that team getting over the hill in the playoffs. They've got good players, but at the end of the day most of the damage done by that team is done by Westbrook and KD. It's frustrating when the Spurs run into that buzzsaw, no doubt. I'm just baffled at a 139 point performance (an impressive comeback, don't get me wrong) where 80+ points are two players. It's ridiculous.

After two games, I mostly agree. New guy hasn't implemented many changes - OKC still responds to adversity by having Westbrook and KD put up anywhere from 40-60 shots combined. It makes for casually entertaining ball and some thrilling games, but I agree - they're not going anywhere unless their system changes.

I've always felt that the Spurs suffer from a psychological effect against OKC. Chesapeake is loud, the Thunder are athletic and tenacious, while the Spurs are precise and systematic. Nothing freaks a team out more than trying to run a well-oiled machine in a hurricane. I think 2014 did a lot to show that the Spurs can impose their will against OKC and grind out those mentally exhausting wins.

OKC are a very good team. Just based on what I saw in the season opener, I think Spurs have enough size and offensive options to handle OKC.
The top 4 teams in the West are Spurs, Thunder, Warriors and Clippers. All these 4 teams surprisingly are better than they have ever been and it will come down to which team is the most efficient and which team can shut down the other team.

Spurs were just on a mission that year and not going to be stopped, they were so focused they went in there in A TOUGH game 6 without Tony in the 2nd half and still pulled it off. They just were not going to be beat that year. OKC is what you said though and a big problem for the Spurs when you think of it, Russell and Durant routinely can go off on you and if they are hot that night you are probably going to lose the game.

Guarding Westbrook is like guarding prime Lebron.
He will impose physically and you'll probably get called a foul if you try hard.
Then there's Durant, who'll have clear vision for a jump shot every time.
However, Spurs as supposed to have defenders to slow them down, specially in a series.

His poor shooting is the biggest issue, which exacerbates his questionable decision making..if he was a relatively good shooter, his late-game chucking would be viewed the same way as Kobe and some of the other volume-shooting wings of the previous era of basketball..
I wouldn't want Russy if I was trying to win a title, I've already said it several times in this thread:lol..he's just one of my favorite players, one of the most exciting to watch in the history of the league, a fashion icon, and he generates more subconscious/subtle racism than any other player in the NBA..
The amount of blame he receives is ridiculous, too, since Dominos Durant always gets a pass for his shortcomings for whatever reason..

One of those guys I doubt could have ever co-existed with a "legitimate coach", tbh. That's what Lebron, Harden and Westbrook all have in common - not measurable on the court.

Great coaches are great for a reason. These guys are like that for a reason. The coach usually didn't know what they are doing. If Kobe, Jordan, etc being two of the worse teammates and egotistical players could be coached.. so could these guys. Westbrook has drastically changed his game since he first came into the league as a shooting guard and turned into an amazing point guard. People don't give Westbrook any credit for fining his craft and developing into the player he is. LeBron has won rings with two other superstar egos. Harden is the only one who's a joke out of those three.

The latter part of your post is irrelevant(hundreds of examples of bottom-feeders beating/competing with great teams, including historically great teams), but it's pretty easy to make a statistical argument re: OKC's supporting cast, especially with Ibaka's decline..

The latter part of your post is irrelevant(hundreds of examples of bottom-feeders beating/competing with great teams, including historically great teams), but it's pretty easy to make a statistical argument re: OKC's supporting cast, especially with Ibaka's decline..
The 2014 Heat were far better after their top 2(not even close, really), and the Clippers were probably better, as well(although they were a 5 seed IIRC, so they weren't a top-seeded team anyways)..
The Heat were slightly better than average but were worse post All-Star break. The Clippers missed out on the 3 seed by one game :lol. They were 23rd in bench production that year.
It's also hard to make a statistical argument without stats to back it up. OKC's ranked 17th in bench production (not ideal) but that isn't even the worst among this year's elite (Cleveland - 19th). So, like I said, saying they have the worst supporting cast in recent history is probably a slight exaggeration after a poor performance.

That’s their MO. That’s just how Westbrook and Durant are gonna play unless they have a real system. People (Presti) think you can stack talent and it just works. You need a coach to put players in a system, in a position where they can thrive and help them. And that coach has to get the players to buy in. It ain’t easy. Which is why coaching isn’t overrated as casual fans may think.
TBH, I was in the “Scotty Brooks is the Worst” clan but I gotta admit that there’s been a dropoff with Donovan, at least in my view. Billy Donovan is in over his head and it shows when in crunch time. OKC still don’t know what to do, they still living in this entropy like basketball blunt taking the most awful shots.
And not to mention that they’re one of the most predictable teams out there. It seems that their only plays are:
Westbrook’s drive to the lane and shoot.
Westbrook’s drive to the lane for a wild pass.
Durant’s jumper.
Durant’s drive to the lane.
Waiters' 19ft fade-away jumper.
Westbrook’s desperate “I’ll do whatever I want” jumper over 3 defenders (specially reserved for clutch/crunch time.)

Yeah, you're right, Westbrook always gets the blame.
Pretty terrible take, HH. I know you're in here trying to defend your boy but 8-22 against a team like Dallas is completely inexcusable, and if that were Parker you'd be in here with your minions excoriating him and laughing about it.
Odd that you rush to the player of another team's defense, but that's not unexpected.
Durant had his worst game ever, but that doesn't mean Westbrook was vindicated. He should be decimating a team like the Mavs, especially since he's now been branded the best player on the Thunder.

If you think Durant gets anywhere near the amount of blame as Westbrook, you're delusional, bro..
Durant is one of the most media-protected superstars in recent history, only rivaled by Chris Paul..for a player that has only been to 1 Finals and has lost several series' where his team was favored, he doesn't receive anywhere near the blame as his peers have received..
You pointed out 1 example of Durant receiving criticism, and in case you don't remember, the publication that ran that picture/article got blasted by everybody and had to apologize to Durant:lol
Blaming Westbrook when he struggles is fine, but constantly ignoring Durant's choking in big games/moments is pretty typical of people like you, tbh..he just had 1 of the worst games we've ever seen for a superstar in the playoffs, yet still didn't receive Westbrook-like scrutiny:lol..also, let's not ignore that Westbrook was easily better than Durant in their last playoff run(2014), yet all people could focus on was Westbrook's stupid shot in game 6 vs. the Spurs(conveniently ignoring the Servant dribbling the ball off his foot and blowing the game:lol)
The best part of your post? Durant himself has acknowledged the ridiculous amount of blame that Westbrook receives:lol..not just once, but many times..he even fought back tears during his MVP speech when he began to discuss the unfair/borderline-racist criticism Russ receives..

it says a lot about the nba, tbh. Someone like this guy getting meaningful minutes in the playoffs as a pg who can't dribble. so much for "best in the world" talent of nba

Durant was hitting everything mid 4th quarter. Then Westbrook took over. Always can count on him and OKC inability to coach him to win games for Spurs.

Sucks that the Spurs are gonna have to defeat him a second time in the playoffs, tbh..he'll probably outplay Dominos in the series again, yet still receive all the blame when they lose:lol

That play where he thought he got fouled so he decided not to run back on D was an incredible display of how much he's matured as a player.
Spurs won by 4 after two late FTs.
Thanks Russ!

"Twenty-one of Westbrook’s shots were when he started and ended a possession without passing, most in the playoffs this season. He made just five of those shots." That's my favorite Westbrook stat from game 3. 21 possessions where he didn't bother passing the ball at all lol :)
Keepin' it real

That's what makes him a top 5 player in the NBA. :rolleyes
Is the <3 in the thread title supposed to mean he has balls? Or is that the number of passes he makes in fourth quarters?
