That play where he thought he got fouled so he decided not to run back on D was an incredible display of how much he's matured as a player.
Spurs won by 4 after two late FTs.
Thanks Russ!
He did it twice. Both times resulted in a jumper made by Tony Parker. Five point swing.

I expected KD to go right at him but he didn't demand the ball either. That's as much an act of beta deferral as it gets too.
Will the real Russell Westbrook please stand up?

21 missed shots (7 from three point-- why does a notoriously bad 3 pt shooter take 10 in an important playoff game?), 5 turnovers, multiple times not getting back on D... it was one thing when he was a young player, but there's just no excuse anymore. He'll never be a good decision maker.

the dribble drive is still the name of the game (today's)..everything flows from there..he probably had a hand in 8-10 other easy baskets from the sheer defense breakdowns he causes just to mitigate his own inefficiency..
Warriors actually wish if it was the Spurs facing them because we couldn't score, and if we do, it was predictable AF...

He's a pretty standard post- Jordan player who doesn't talk politics/social issues etc for fear of losing endorsements.... Bullshit, he's a modern day (with a bigger frame), glorified version of Allen Iverson. He'll give you insane out put statistically but at the expense of bone headed plays and complete inefficiency. His high motor and intensity will never make up for the fact that he isn't natural point guard and doesn't have a very high BBIQ.
As the "head of the snake," a majority of the blame rests on his shoulders. Just like when the Spurs fail, no matter who the best player on the team is, jackasses around here place the blame squarely on Tony Parker's shoulders (sometimes deserved like last postseason) without fail.
Although, most of the blame goes to (IMHO) management for failing to find a third star (:lol:lol:lol replacing James Harden's efficient, versatile production in OKC with Waiters, Kanter and Ibaka) and Roberson not being a good enough shooter to fully replace Thabo Sefolosha.

From OKC's perspective, this season has been a disaster in many ways, but the worst thing has been Westbrook's heroballing while Durant was hurt. The biggest problem this team already had was Russ wanting to shoot more than Durant, and now I'm sure he's more convinced than ever that he should lead the team in shot attempts. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if this is a bigger issue than ever next season, with the final result being that it turns out to be Durant's final season there.

Seriously though, yeah. He is up there with the generational talents and so much of that comes from the insatiable fire in his belly.
It would be fascinating to see how Pop would handle him once it gets down to the nitty gritty in the playoffs.
Try to put him on a leash? Let him go free, willy nilly?
Take the ball out of his hands to Kawhi, or (shudder) LMA? Or Pau?

I have a thought that Donovan may be a bit hamstrung, coaching-wise, in that he will have orders to placate Westbrook, come hell, or high water this coming year, which might make the team suffer as a whole.
So although he may be a good coach, to which I agree, he may have some hurdles to jump over on top of his mission to win games.

The corny fans all over this thread want you to believe that Dominos wanted to get away from the "cancerous teammate", but the reality is that all the players on OKC's roster were growing frustrated with Durant's lack of leadership and quitting..
As Woj said on his show, today:
“And there’s no question, I know Russell [Westbrook] was bothered by — and other teammates were too — of, like, there was some knowledge there that Draymond [Green] was in contact with Kevin [Durant] all season long and they’re in a playoff series and I know there was some conversation around the Thunder team of ‘hey man, this guy kicked Steven Adams in the nuts twice in this series and what are you doing hanging out with this guy? What’s the relationship? We’re trying to beat these guys.’”

2014: 42%
2016: 41%
Average: 41%
The guy is a consistently terrible shooter in the playoffs (a little worse even than how bad he is in the regular season), so the last thing you want is him shooting a high volume, which is exactly what you get (21 shots a game on average).
This is why, even with the MVP and a stacked cast, the Thunder couldn't win a championship. And when Durant got hurt, Westbrook couldn't even make the playoffs. The guy is a ball domainant player who can't shoot and truly disappears at the end of games...well, actually it would be better if he disappeared. He actually shoots them out of close games. You brought up the top 10 points list. Lets look at the playoff efficiency(true shooting percentage) of all the players on that list(up to Tony) and see how Parker stacks up:
.568 - Jordan
.571 - Kareem
.541 - Kobe
.565 - Shaq
.550 - Duncan
.526 - Malone
.577 - Lebron
.541 - Jerry West
.498 - Havlicek
.551 - Bird
.515 - Parker
Everybody on that list has scored a lot of points in the playoffs on good efficiency. Except for the three bolded players. These three stand out as being considerably less efficient than the others. Malone is a reputed choke artist in the playoffs. His low efficiency reflects that. Parker's another one. Just more proof that these two are the biggest choke artists in post-season history.
How about we compare Parker's .515 TS% to other great PGs past and present:
.595 - Magic
.568 - Stockton
.583 - Nash
.578 - Billups
.577 - Paul
.515 - Parker
Poor Tony isn't even close. Then again, TP never was an elite point guard.

He shot 39% on 44 FGA in the game, 2-10 from 3P. Maybe he has to do it because his teammates suck. But maybe his teammates suck because he takes half the available shots, and mostly creates as an afterthought. I know, I know... he got 10 AST, and a triple-double. I guess if you can do that, your team doesn't need any chemistry - as long as you're playing Phoenix, anyway.

(Danny shot .332 from 3P last season, and people wanted him cut - or at least benched.) For his whole fucking career, Hardon shoots about .350 on his 2-pointers outside of 3 feet. If a whole team shot that shitty, they would never win a single game. Not one. Ever.
Anybody who wants to jack up that many shots, with that kind of shitty FG%? I'll take him on the opponents' team every time. You can talk all you want to about the good things he does. No shit, Sherlock. There are probably 15 or more PG's better than Tony at this point. Thanks for that astute observation.
I would take at least 10 other PG's (all-time) in their prime over current day Westbrook. And truthfully he is probably more physically gifted or talented than most of them.
Funny, people laud over and praise Westbrook for the same sort of antics that Rondo, Marbury and Francis were hated/bashed for. He is going to wind up being this generation's Kobe Bryant, IMHO. And I don't mean thay as any sort of compliment.

Sucks seeing him out there with such a shitty supporting cast, tbh..not as bad as Cousins or Davis, but still, respect for sticking with those scrubs..
How many of those "shitty teammates" are lottery picks, Harlem? The team was going to take a huge hit talent wise once they lost Durant, but they still have a ton of quality big man depth (Adams is easily top 10) and young, athletic wings that can run with him.
He is just a glory hound simple as that. I hate that Durant took the "easy" route going to Golden State, waited until he was gone to finally admit playing with Russell isn't fun/was frustrating, but his style of play will likely never, ever lead to championships. Not unless he final takes a backseat to a more talented player, though the last 7 years probably prove that won't happen.
Perfect definition of his mindset and mentality: "now, I do what I want."
LOL... Westrbick now on pace to put up the third most shots in history, in a single season - the most in the modern era (due to decrease in pace).
His 44 shots in the last game would be on pace to blow away Wilt's all-time record, set in 1962.
And from this USA Today article:
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/07/nba-oklahoma-city-thunder-russell-westbrook-shots
"During the Durant-less games over last two years, Westbrook averaged .677 shots a minute. Over 41 minutes, that works out to 27.7 shots a game, which just beats out Kobe’s 27.2 shots per game in ’05-06 and would work out to 2,271 shots over the course of the season. That would put Westbrook in the top-10 all-time, and it would be the only season after 1987 to make into that illustrious group.
We could be headed for the greatest season of chucking in modern NBA history."
Yeah, he's not a ball hog. :rolleyes

The guy is a loser. Plain and simple, doesn't matter who is playing with him. He can't win a title.

Neither of them have had a Westbrook or an Iguodala or the league and its refs to carry them to the Finals.
Durbeta and Cucky exposed themselves as the biggest choke artists in the game today in last year's playoffs. They are also mentally weak and softer than Charmin.

They only have 2 other players that can create anything(Oladipo, Kanter), and Kanter can't play more than 20 MPG due to his historically bad defense..
They don't have a decent SF on the roster, too..Roberson had a nice 14-day stretch in the playoffs, but a couple of weeks doesn't erase an entire career of being a role player that literally has no offensive skills..he's not a starting caliber player(not even close, actually)..
Kyle Singler should not be on an NBA roster, let alone in an NBA rotation..
Steven Adams is a pretty good role player, a top 15 C, but can't create his own shot and isn't a defensive anchor..he's a worthy starter, though, I agree..
Overall, they have 4 notable players(Westbrook, Oladipo, Adams, Kanter) surrounded by a bunch of 10th-15th men..
I agree that Westbrook will never win a championship as the main guy, but doesn't change the fact that they are a poorly built team, at the moment..

Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated (http://www.si.com/nba/2016/10/19/russell-westbrook-thunder-nba-season-preview-kevin-durant):
Westbrook and Durant were not best buds, but they were peerless partners, a souped-up Stockton and Malone, transporting a mini market to the big time. Westbrook’s closest friends are actually former high school teammates, long-standing wing men like Donnell Beverly and Demetrius (Juice) Deason, who flank him in summer pickup games and play dominoes with him on the Fourth. “He didn’t talk much about what happened,” says Beverly. Westbrook didn’t disparage Durant. He didn’t judge him. All he did was take a picture. When Kendrick Perkins played center for the Thunder, he called teammates “cupcake” if he thought they were acting a little soft. Westbrook and Durant adopted the term in jest. Westbrook posted a bittersweet pic on Instagram: three plates of cupcakes topped by red and blue stars and sprinkles.

LMAO - do you guys even understand that he took a quarter of his shots last year from the 3P line, and shot .296? (Danny shot .332 from 3P last season, and people wanted him cut - or at least benched.) For his whole fucking career, Hardon shoots about .350 on his 2-pointers outside of 3 feet. If a whole team shot that shitty, they would never win a single game. Not one. Ever.
Anybody who wants to jack up that many shots, with that kind of shitty FG%? I'll take him on the opponents' team every time. You can talk all you want to about the good things he does. The bottom line is he jacks up a shitload of shots, at a percentage that loses games. But, damn, he looks good doing it.

Yup and yup.
I love KD because he is a Prince George's County (Maryland) product, but can't deny that I lost a bit of respect for him (not that he cares) over the last few years. His passive behavior throughout his time in Oklahoma City and "turncoat" mentality going to Golden State ("it won't be easy/I'm helping them win") only deepened it.
Westbrook is just Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson (who I also love cause he's from VA) & Steve Francis (PG/Montgomery County too) in a shiny, new package. Everything most of these clowns hate about Tony is completely TRUE about Westbrook, but people love his dunks, "intensity and passion" that he plays with.
Like I said earlier, he'll never, ever win playing this ridiculous brand of Ultra Hero Ball.
And he is nowhere near the 3rd best player in the NBA. I would take LeBron, Curry, Durant and Leonard before even thinking about Westbrook with his constant chucking, selfish play and terrible efficiency.

As much as I do not like Kobe Bryant, how is that an insult to RUSS? Kobe is a hall of famer, plus Pop said he wants Kawhi to be more like Kobe. Oh the IRONY :)
The problem with Tony is that he is a defensive liability, RUSS can hold his own and then some. Your comparison of the two players is point less. Russ would make the Spurs the BEST Team in the NBA right now; Russ, Danny, Kawhi, LMA and Dedmon will grab over 50% of their missed shots, it would be hard to beat and that's guaranteed!
