That squad would struggle to win the D-League championship. Aminu is the only rotation player & he's useless on offense unless someone else is creating shots for him ala Danny.:lol

Only your fandom talking as bad as some guys were in SL at least the game were more thrilling and there were definitely more talented guys in some squads than Nigeria has there. I couldn't watch the brazil game earlier either. Even the team USA games were boring. Felt like a scrimmage.... I can only watch blowouts if its the Spurs TBH.

I did miss the close game with Spain and the France dud-although that one was over early I would have watched the two first quarters. It's really the ones that get so wide in talent gap that get non-competitive at some point. The Brazil one ended up being close after it turned it off lol but there was also no one I cared to watch in that team or Lithuania for that matter.

Lithuania is actually pretty good. I actually like a few things about the FIBA game: the physicality, the fact it's just 10 mins per quarters and 5 fouls, and there's no 300 commercials, tbh

Yes. it´s Al Farouq´s brother. Nigeria is missing him and Ezeli, their two best players easy.

About Argentina what can i say, they have found a way to hide their smaller size in the bigs with their guards and small forwards rebounding abilities. I was lucky to watch all preliminary games, and what they did after Australia completely dominated the boards against them is start rebounding with all five players.

I am still not sure if that will be useful in real deal competition, but if it works, that pretty much takes away the only advantage most teams have over Argentina, their size.

In the Spurest of ways, Argentina might have a Big 3 that is pretty old, and a not so flashy team, but i have no doubt they have the most corporate knowledge of all teams not named USA, they trust their system, their new and old players know their roles and they play to their strengths.

If a team fails to play very smart against Argentina they have a very good chance of being beaten, even if they have good size advantage.

I can't watch the US at all. Had Kawhi or LMA been part of it or had a couple of the other teams been healthy, I could've seen myself watching them in the medal matches. But it's not fun to watch guys I don't root for during the season destroy teams that are at such an obvious talent disadvantage.

i'm with you. the US team just comes off as brash and annoying. and leading the cheers are durant and green so it just comes off as a golden state arrogance fest.

The Australian v Serbia game was a very good game of basketball.
King Delly was outstanding
Bogut is class and there is no substitute for that, sorry GSW you let him go?
infact Bogut/Big Banger Baynesy/Anderson were excellent.
Aussies had a patch from mid 2nd to mid 3rd where they went away from the interior bigs and showed a spectacular display of how not to shoot the 3 ball. Thankfully they readjusted going back to the bigs before 4 late 3s showed they actually could shoot 3s?
MVPatty caused big trouble with his speed off the dribble getting to the rim 3 or 4 times using an impressive stutter step as well. For most of the game his shot was not particularly good but got that going in the last.
Miroslav Raduljica was a standout for Serbia. Nice to see a big man so comfortable at the line.
Teodosic had a great first half before Raduljica stamped himself the man for Serbia.
Dare I say it before the USA game but the Aussie team play good D. They need to improve still on boards as Serbia did well with offensive boards against the Aussie bench fwiw.
Again I say- Keeping Bogut fit is the key for the Aussies.

What comes next is going to be very difficult
By Manu Ginobili

RIO DE JANEIRO - Without a doubt, what I'm experiencing in these Olympics is very special. I'm here because of that. I wanted this. And what we did in the first game against Nigeria makes me very happy, because we played great, we had a lot of intensity, very focused, and didn't let them play comfortably at any time. And well, that let us get a 20 point lead, which is always complicated to revert for most opponents. We knew that perhaps they could make a 6 or 8 point run, but it never really got to that. We played well and we did what we thought we could do, from an optimistic view. Because there was always a bit of worry. Mostly because they're a team that are a bit unpredictable. If they shot 12 out of 24 from three point land, like they did in the first friendly game in Vegas, instead of the 3 of 24 in the last game, everything changes. So we're happy because everyone feels important, we all could score, and we all feel useful. It's a great way to start.

We still have to be cautious about what the team showed during the friendlies and the first game of the Olympics. In the friendlies, we played pretty good, and this last game was impeccable, but nevertheless, you have to be measured about these things. We still have to see how we react when a team makes it difficult on us, when we can't execute our game, when the other team is playing better in some aspects of the game. We need to know how we're going to respond, the old guys, the young guys, all together. Winning a game by 20 or 30 doesn't mean we have everything figured out. We have to go slowly and we have to know that all we did during the friendly games was just get to know each other, and not much more. Now we have four finals in a row. Everything we did during the friendlies don't mean anything, this is going to be very difficult. Lithuania looked like they were going to destroy Brazil, but they kept coming back and coming back and they almost turn it around and beat them. Same thing with Croatia and Spain. They're tough teams and very physical. If we think that we're good because we beat some of them in friendly games, we're screwed. So, I insist, we have to be cautious.

This was an intense start and even though I know how hard is the road ahead of us I feel things worked out well for me in the first game. I felt good. I think I played a lot of minutes in the first half, and that kind of took some of my legs on the second half. But I felt good and useful. Perhaps the enthusiasm of the first game made me spend more energy that I should have spent, but mostly because of how the game developed. But sometimes that's just not under your control. The good news is that we have a day off before the next game. And it's not a small detail, because they're going to be very tough and physical games. When you play against Lithuania, Croatia or Serbia, and you know they can play any position and do it well, you have to be smarter in your game. So we have to play well. It's not going to be one of those games (like the game against Croatia today) that you win with grit and grind. Those things you always need to have, but to win you have to play well, make your shots and be very focused on defense. They're young, talented, so we're playing against a great team, that already won on the road against Italy to qualify for this tournament. That's no small detail. It's a game that's going to help us, so I hope we have a good game.

I really would like to thank the fans that came to support us in the first game. At certain moments it felt like the arena was rocking. It was very emotional. Now, with that said, I also want to explain that I'm against the insults against the Brazilian public. I know there's people that made a tremendous effort to be here and support us, and that helps, but even without talking a single word with Chapu [Nocioni] and Luifa [Scola] we all three talked separately during the press conference about that specific situation. It's just absurd. We're always talking about the hooligans, violence in sports and all that stuff... If we look the other way it's kind of like we're giving that a pass. I honestly don't want to be part of that. I think it's worthwhile to say it. I don't understand it, because we weren't even playing against Brazil. Plus, it's something that comes from soccer, that happened there, we have nothing to do with it. I don't know, it wasn't necessary, at all. I'm always of the idea that if you identify with a team that you like, the best is to root for them, instead of insulting the rival or anybody else. I see it as unnecessary and in some ways violent. And I'm saying this with the best intentions, because we're always grateful for your support, but if I had to choose, I prefer to save the insults against the other team, and rather you support us.

But in these games things happen all the time. And it's impossible not to talk about Paula Pareto and say that it's spectacular what she achieved. It was epic and emotional for all of us, the ones that watched it on TV from Argentina, all of us here, everybody that know her... Honestly it's incredible. I couldn't watch it live, but when I found out, I watched all the replays, heard all the comments. I saw all the images, when she was signing the national anthem, it's impossible not to get emotional! See her emotion. And, in some way, you feel identified with that, because of all the memories. A lot of us, 12 years later, we still look back at that day in Athens as something magical, they're unforgettable moments that move you. What happened to Paula in these few days, I'm sure will be with her for the next 20 or 30 years and it's going to be one of the best things that happened to her. Something that doesn't happen often. So I want to congratulate her, because she was magnificent. I'm happy for her, because I know she's a great person, because we have friends in common, and this happened to a friend, that is also a good person, she completely deserve it. How could we not feel happy for her? It was a great day for Argentina's sports.

I think you are jesting (?), but a huge reason the Warriors were so stingy in the paint was because of Bogut the past several seasons. When he went out against the Cavs, the lane opened up. Bogut is an awesome paint defender.

The only things this Sevens team has in common with the All Blacks is the somewhat similar team name and code-hopper Sonny Bill Williams (who is also a familiar face in Australia's Rugby League scene). But it's nowhere close to having the collection of best Kiwi players from the Super Rugby competition that form the All Blacks.

You just can't tell me that in a country with more than 300 Million people, they can't find a dozen or so half-backs, linebackers and safeties with ball skills and passing vision. I understand that rugby is criminally under-appreciated here (my third-favorite sport behind basketball and AFL), but come on. They had years to prepare for this.

That's even sadder. Could totally add in tight-ends, and defensive linemen to the mix if you went 15s. I can understand why Union isn't palatable here, even though I prefer it to sevens. It looks too much like soccer on TV, but it doesn't have the same ethnic support, so it can't even be an alternative sport. But sevens seem perfect for the American viewing experience (short, lots of scoring, limited stoppages).

Maybe the issue is that it's TOO short. No way to really broadcast it.

I don't think he's passive -- they just camp him out in the corner 3.

Plus which he's playing with ballhogs like Scola and Nocioni. He's a team player, they're not.

Ugh. Tough one.

Those techs buried us. Along with that black hole in the third.

Coach sealed the deal with his ejection. Jesus.

Argentina was pretty decent all-around. Some tough shots went in, played solid D, we pressed them in the 4th.

Still, optimistic about the upcoming games.

Btw. Garino looked solid on defense. Offense was non-existent, by team design, i'd say.

It's looking pretty bad for the US in rugby right now. If GB loses to NZ, then it would mean the US would have to beat Fiji just to earn a tie-breaker. Really messed up by letting Argentina drive down the pitch in extra time.

Though Brazil could do the US the favor of kicking the hell out of Argentina so the Americans can get second place in their bracket. That works too.

Manu is the obvious GOAT, but the player this team will miss the most is Scola.
It's a mix of things
Luis is a dominant offensive player in FIBA and he's the one taking the most shots, plus he's the Captain and has been there for the NT even when Manu wasn't because of injuries
Also Argentina are kinda stacked on the wings, not so much with bigs, so Luis is gonna be harder to replace
Said that, Manu's leadership on and off the court is uncomparable, and you can see it during timeouts, interviews, during games when he's talking to the younger guys, encouraging and teaching them
And in the 4th, despite taking just 3 shots all game and already having 4 fouls, when nobody could make a basket and Facu was starting to get careless with the ball they went to him, and he delivered

In fewer words you'll have a hard, hard time losing them both :lol
