I think OKC lost. Vertical says they gave up Payne too.
From a win-now perspective? Taj > Payne with Russ playing a ton of minutes and Payne not doing much so far. But long-term? Decent gamble by Bulls to see if Payne truly is starter quality for a big who's good but clearly hit his ceiling and is due another deal next year.

Paul George might be a better fit for Boston, but Butler has been the far better player this year with worse supporting cast..

What an eye opener.
Bulls should hold on to him.

Pacers, while it may hurt PG's value some, can trade PG next year or during draft as well. I get BOS not making moves for the same reason on the other side of the equation.
But damn, these idiots out East scared to build a team to compete with CLE. Sucks.
I like what every single team in our division did to varying degrees. They all improved and some (NO) have insane ceilings.

Ya, maybe if you know for a fact that he'll take a long-term deal, but it sounds like he's going to the Lakers within the next 2 years according to virtually every credible source, so far..
Yeah. Plenty of time for him change his mind, but if a guy wants to go home, that can be a powerful motivator. See: Carmelo Anthony.

Yeah, I think OKC did themselves a real solid. Both Taj and McDermott are likely to do well there.

Why would Spurs fans want Noel? I like his game, but the Spurs already have 5 quality bigs:lol The entire foundation of the team is built around the bigs..
Bc of the troll and schtick game...
They would also give up what depth the team has at the wings and the draft pick for him... so good luck playing manu 30 minutes etc... and bringing up flotsam from the dleague. Likely Garino and others....
then Noel needs to be paid in the offseason and the Spurs are basically in the same situation Philly was this season with a glut of bigs and no perimeter players. :lmao

butler is under contract for three more seasons. the bulls are a mess.
george still has two.
really disappointed that rose/rubio deal didn't happen. and they kept melo. can't help but feel bad for porzingis. the two are stunting his growth.
atlanta fucked up by waiting too long to be willing to trade their players. and their plan is to try to resign millsap this summer :lol for what? so they can be in the same place are now?
while the pelicans, rockets, thunder got better.
playoff seeding should be #1-#16.

- Noel to Mavericks is good news on Dedmon front. I had they pegged as the team most likely to make him an exorbitant offer.
- Nice trade by Cuban-Nelson, to get a starting center, who fits well with Nowitzki, for either a 19th or worse 1st or 2 2nds and Anderson, who had become expendable with emergence of Finney-Smith
- Colangelo was in tough spot and probably did as well as possible, but still an underwhelming return, though Anderson could end up in the mold of Crowder/Tucker
- Excellent work by Ujiri to once again fill a need, at a good price. Top end (mainly DeRozan) isn't good enough to win championship, but roster balance is no longer an issue
- Terrible job by Ainge. Getting George for 2 runs would have increased odds of keeping him from bolting to Lakers. They need to stop acting as if they're sitting on future dynasty and get him or Butler in off season
- Terrible job by Forman-Paxson, but good job by Presti, to get much needed wing shooter/scorer, plus upgrade starting power forward (though a Adams-Gibson-Roberson frontline provides zero spacing), for backup point guard and fourth big

Cameron Payne has got to be one of the worst NBA players I've ever seen play. Sure, there have been worse players, but he came to the Thunder with high expectations and just completely sucked. The funny thing is, he thinks he's good. HE'S BEEN AWFUL. While most Thunder players found another level against the Spurs in the playoffs, that dude just consistently shit the bed. Lol. How many starting guards around the league have passed through Phoenix? Then the debacle of the Morris twins. Team is a train wreck, and there is no light at all at the end of that tunnel. As a Spurs fan who can remember when the Suns were serious competition, I really feel sorry for that fan base.

I have nothing against them and no real attachment to Anthony or Forbes.. but these guys... you have to think in terms of who in the rotation, which minutes they are getting. If you can't envision anyone in the rotation you would rather displace for them there really is no point in them displacing marginal players 13th to 15th. Maybe Tyreke has a spot over Simmons, that is it.
I am not opposed to this, but to displace guys who really don't play most of the season.. that makes no sense.. not even for the FA you want to join the team. They need playing time to earn their next deal. I would not want to get over to the Spurs and be hoping to get in the game in garbage time with the Spurs youngsters. If that is really what these guys are looking at right now they are not joining the Spurs.
Both Jones and Tyreke are going to want playing time.

Sure, but having depth is a great thing with aging AND unproductive guards like TP/Manu (much of the time). Then from the frontcourt, Gasol is older, Anthony has no reason to be on the team and Jones is about versatility.
I can see why Jones/Tyreke might not choose SA but SA should definitely choose them even if they don't end up playing a second. They are wayyyyyyy better than Forbes/Anthony.
However, it's moot since it looks like Tyreke, despite SAC having Buddy and all the other guards is staying put.

For Jones, the reason he asked .. asked.... to be waived is so that he could get a rotation spot elsewhere.
Tyreke has been brittle himself lately. He's had multiple surgeries recently and is less durable than even the old guards you mention and he's going to want playing time too.
Anyways... I don't see either in the Spurs.

I would prefer to keep that 1st round pick. The new CBA makes picks/rookie contracts very valuable, especially for teams that draft and develop players well. Don't see Lou Williams being much of an upgrade over Mills and he's worse than Bonner when it comes to playoff shooting % drop.
Additionally, taking on his salary would mean the Spurs would significantly reduce their ability to keep Dedmon in the summer, should an offer over the MLE be needed.

Yea...he's making a mockery of himself, two seasons in a row already. Draftees that are not transcendent talent as you mention take time for them to even know what they have there and sometimes all you have are nice players but not stars. They also can't develop all of them properly bc they don't have enough roster spots.
Their window with the group they have is right now. I respect Ainge not wanting to throw away his picks initially and waiting for the right time... but by now it seems like there has been no star, no right time, etc. not even a right trade out there to improve their roster. He says he likes their team as they are... perhaps too attached to his roster right now.
