Right from the beginning of the clip in the meeting they say they want to abolish capitalism in America so you'd have to remove all the laws in the constitution that protect capitalism out of it. I mean its hardcoded into the constitution and you need 3/4 of the states to alter it. This is a group of completely unserious morons.

"What does DSA believe in?

Like most socialist organizations, DSA believes in the abolition of capitalism in favor of an economy run either by “the workers” or the state — though the exact specifics of “abolishing capitalism” are fiercely debated by socialists."

this is like kindergarten stuff no one ever took seriously. These aren't the people who call the Scandinivian model which is basically very free market capitalism with heavy redistribution socialism but actual socialist idiots

With each policy being more dumb than the next:

"While both DSA and some left-wing Democrats agree that the government should provide universal health insurance, DSA ultimately wants to nationalize hospitals, providers, and the rest of the health care system as well. While both will work toward higher taxes on Wall Street, DSA ultimately wants to nationalize the entire financial sector. While left-wing Democrats believe in criminal justice reform, some DSA members are calling for the outright abolition of the police and prison systems. While both DSA and left-wing Democrats support reforms to get money out of politics, some in DSA see capitalism as fundamentally incompatible with genuinely free and fair elections. In practice, however, the two wind up ultimately taking the same positions."

AOC has a right to think and say whatever she wants, even if I don't agree with most of it and she is also a duly elected representative whose job is to be the voice of her constituents, whether I think they're morons or not.

That's probably just about the only defense I would advance. Unfortunately, she continues to gain more and more prominence in no small part from the obsession the red team has on her.

24 hour news cycles demand loud noises and edgelords... either to shame them or prop them, they just need something to talk about. She's also clearly very willing to be vocal about whatever topic.

She might well be the future of the Dem party. Honestly, looking at the current clown car they're running for the 2020 election, it's hard to tell who's going to be the future of the party, tbh... their more prominent figures right now are Pelosi, Bernie, Schumer, Biden.. they're like 800 years old between them.

I think posting a video of some random DSA meeting full of idiot kids and then saying LOL THIS IS AOCS PARTY is a dishonest shot. And I’ll call it out as such.

As for media calling her the future future of the party or whatever, i doubt it’s because they believe the party is adopting her views. “The crew” is seen as the fringe. But calling her the future is likely because she’s a young freshman congresswoman who is already (through whoever you want to point the finger at) one of the most broadcast voices in Congress. She’s also been unusually assertive in her first stint, rather than being a more quiet observer as learner. Not saying that’s right or wrong but you look at that trajectory and i don’t think it’s an outrageous claim.

i know you have a hard on for letting everybody know that you are left but like totally reasonable and not crazy loony left, so I’m sorry for getting in your way

That video is objectively idiotic and reminds me of a Portlandia episode.

I've honestly never heard AOC or any other elected Democrat (or even "Socialist") official talk like that, though, or even advocate for such behavior. Not that I follow her comments every day, per se, but I'm sure if she was introducing herself with gender pronouns or suggesting we keep the chatter to a minimum so we don't trigger people's anxiety, we'd never hear the end of it from conservatives.

Contrast with the every-bit-as-crazy shit happening at CPAC, with actual elected Republicans as speakers and attendees, and this doesn't really register on the concern meter for me.

But it's still funny and it's something that Leftist Outrage Twitterverse needs to reckon with.

Timothy James Ireland Jr. posted on Facebook that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ‘should be shot’ and

said he would face no repercussions from the public backlash because,

“Can’t fire me, my employer would load the gun for me.”

Police searched his home and found ammunition. Ireland is not legally allowed to own guns because of his criminal record.

An FBI criminal history check found that Ireland has two outstanding warrants.

One is a felony failure to appear in Sarasota County, Florida, and

the second is a misdemeanor failure to appear bench warrant related to a marijuana possession charge in Cook County, Georgia.

Ireland was also convicted in 1996 on four felony counts of dealing stolen property in Sarasota County, Florida.

He was arrested on the warrant outstanding in Florida.

He has been charged with

being a felon in possession of a firearm,

being a fugitive in possession of a firearm, and

making interstate threats. (https://www.toledoblade.com/local/courts/2019/08/09/timothy-ireland-charged-in-federal-court-for-Ocasio-Cortez-threats-illegally-possessing-ammunition/stories/20190809136)

No further information is available at this time, but the shooting comes amid a time of hostility towards the law enforcement agency, sparked by the rhetoric of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). (RELATED: Antifa ICEBomber Invoked AOC’s ‘Concentration Camp’ Rhetoric Before Terror Attack)

Democratic Socialism is a hybrid system of capitalism and socialism - capitalism with a high social safety net. Democratic socialism aims to keep some aspects of the capitalist system in place while making basic reforms to meet the bare necessities of life and provide equal opportunity. Examples: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, etc.

It is not the right-wing strawman version of communism/socialism where the state takes over the means of production and property rights.

The one thing people completely ignore is proportionate correlation. There's a reason we're the only 1st world country with over 110+ million in population; it's fucking expensive to be a 1st world country. Figure in that we're 3x plus bigger than the second largest first world country.

Throw in the fact that we're addicted to consumerism and unwilling to change that as societal norms force people to live outside their means more and more. And, if for some reason, this shit moves forward and people become responsible with what's left of their monies after the massive tax hikes necessary to pay for 350 million of us to have "free shit" cripple people, then we'll be hated because the global economy tanks because we stopped becoming gluttonous consumers. All facts. You won't get a rebuttal to this one. People blindly accept corporate welfare, tax cuts for the super wealthy but when the average American struggling paycheck to paycheck asks for help they get scolded.

"getting on the electoral college thingy' requires an amendment to the US Constitution. it's not something that can be done on a whim.

you'd need to have 2/3 of the senate AND the house propose it (or have 2/3 of the state legislatures call for a national convention), and then have 3/4 of all state legislatures ratify it

its not just some bill you have to get passed :lol

It's a bit like wanting to get rid of birthright citizenship by executive order... :lol

When it comes to news, August is traditionally the silly season and President Donald Trump certainly did his part last week to lighten the national mood. He got into a fight with the Danish prime minister because she wouldn’t sell him Greenland, said he wanted to award himself the Medal of Honor, and endorsed the claim that “Jewish people in Israel ... love him like he is the second coming of God.” It’s possible that the Greenland idea was serious. He did cancel a state visit because of it. But all the rest was clearly parody. How stupid would you have to be to think Israeli Jews would be excited about “the second coming of God?” I mean, if you’re Jewish, that’s not even a thing.

If you are a lawyer, the most hilarious thing Trump did last week was his schtick about eliminating birthright citizenship by executive order. Now, it is true that lawyers can have an odd sense of humor, but this is a joke that, with a little explanation, can be enjoyed by lawyers and nonlawyers alike.

Trash campaigned against cheating, unfair China, and all he is doing now is trying to keep his campaign promise by IGNORANTLY warring with China, and getting his fatt butt beat, while hurting 10Ms of Americans and American companies.

Trash is a 100% total fuckup visiting $Bs in fuckjobs on his own base.

He understood that our teeth were kicked in & asked China to stop kicking them in and to act like somebody. That China President skinnined, he grinned, then proceeded to kick our teeth in some more.

The old man put on his jack boots, the ones he slaughtered Hillary with & proceeded to kick China's teeth in, so, they know. The principle of (empathy) must be application. That's Empathy 101, remember Splits?

John T. Stankey (born 1962) is an American businessman who is the current CEO of WarnerMedia, parent company to CNN. Stankey donated $2,000 to Tennessee Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn's successful 2018 election campaign.

No, you're being purposely obtuse, because you know I got you by your short hairs on this one.

When did Bush 1 or 2 ever try & stand on their own 2 feet? Never. They were IN bed with their enemies & Media the entire fuckin' time. Shit, I fell for it. And if you're right & I'm wrong and Trump is in bed with "Clinton" & Media I'll stipulate at once. But, until that day I will remain fast in the ranks.

Trump is a lazy shit who can't be bothered to do the work in hiring people who aren't lobbyists.

The lobbyists are the ones who want the jobs the most, and who the various industries have been recommending for posts when asked.

The door is wide open, and the scum has slithered in, for the most corrupt administration in modern history.

i've been vocally anti kamala/booker/castro, so i'd rule them out offhand.

biden would be a very uninspired choice and would suffer from some of the same electability issues clinton did (will always be linked to black president), so he wouldn't be the best bet to unseat trump. beto's ability to connect with young voters was really interesting in texas. i dont see the appeal, generally speaking.

warren is my #1... i also think sanders would have a good shot of prevailing in the general election. there isn't anybody else that i'm particularly excited about. would probably take some time to round out my top 5. tulsi in there for now. i dont think there are a lot of great options in the forefront. i wouldn't have minded gavin newsom, but he was never going to run given he just got elected as governor

warren provided she can get past the native american shindig

dont care for harris/booker/castro or the old guard like biden

sanders as a follow up because i think he'd be able to energize young voters the way beto did in texas

no, i'm not in favor of youtube censorship. but it's not a first amendment free speech issue.

i feel exactly the same way with the NFL.

when kaep started kneeling, my initial reaction was that his kneeling was a stupid way to get his point across. when people said he had a first amendment right to kneel, i said sure, he does, but the NFL can discipline him if they choose to do so. but i also said it would be really stupid to discipline him for silently protesting. i've been vocal on this forum about how kneeling shoulnd't piss fans off. when trump started railing on NFL players for protesting, i then supported the reaction the following week when most of the league protested in solidarity.

i've also been a kaep proponent on this board, saying on multiple occasions that he's been blackballed from the NFL for politics, and not because "he's not good enough"

AOC to Zuckerberg: Why is a white supremacist-tied publication fact-checking for Facebook? (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/10/23/1894632/-AOC-to-Zuckerberg-Why-is-a-white-supremacist-tied-publication-fact-checking-for-Facebook)

At one point she asked Zuckerberg whether he removed proven lies from the social media platform (first tweet), and

he didn’t seem to have an answer.

And then she went for the jugular (second tweet).

OCASIO-CORTEZ: Can you explain why you’ve named The Daily Caller, a publication well-documented with ties to white supremacists, as an official fact-checker for Facebook?

ZUCKERBERG: Congresswoman, sure. We actually don’t appoint the independent fact-checkers. They go through an independent organization called the Independent Fact-Checking Network that has a rigorous standard for who they allow to serve as a fact-checker.

OCASIO-CORTEZ: So you would say that white supremacist-tied publications meet a rigorous standard for fact-checking?

ZUCKERBERG: …

OCASIO-CORTEZ: Thank you.

ZUCKERBERG: Congresswoman, I would say we’re not the one assessing that standard. The International Fact-Checking Network is the one setting that standard.

the white nationalist problem at Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller, a conservative political outlet launched in 2010 (https://www.theguardian.com/media/pda/2010/jan/11/daily-caller-tucker-carlson) as a “response” to the Huffington Post, is bigger than just Kessler.

Throughout the 2016 election and since,

the Daily Caller has not only published the work of white nationalists, but

some of its writers have routinely whitewashed the Alt-Right,

while one editor there is an associate of key Alt-Right figures.

Two Daily Caller contributors, including a senior investigative reporter, were

recently announced as speakers (https://www.splcenter.org/sites/default/files/screencapture-hlmenckenclub-org-2017-conference-1502826111871-mercer-pollock.png) at the upcoming white nationalist H.L. Mencken Club (https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2013/11/01/white-nationalist-academics-gather-weekend-hl-mencken-club-annual-meeting) conference organized by Paul Gottfried (https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2016/11/04/white-nationalists-gather-baltimore-ninth-annual-hl-mencken-club-conference), a godfather of the Alt-Right (https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/ideology/alternative-right).

In addition, Tucker Carlson, the founder of The Daily Caller, has gone on record as saying the whole concept of white supremacy is a “conspiracy theory.” (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/8/7/1877384/-Tucker-Carlson-claims-white-supremacy-is-a-hoax-and-conspiracy-theory)

'We Were Proven Right,' Says AOC After Amazon Expands in New York Without Taking Billions in Public Cash

"Maybe the Trump admininistration should focus more on cutting public assistance to billionaires instead of poor families."

The decision (https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2019/12/06/amazon-new-office-hudson-yards/) by the online giant to lease 335,000 square feet of office space in Manhattan and employee 1,500 employees in the consumer and advertising departments was first reported (https://www.wsj.com/articles/amazon-leases-new-manhattan-office-space-less-than-a-year-after-hq2-pullout-11575671243) by the Wall Street Journal.

The announcement came roughly 10 months after Amazon announced (https://www.commondreams.org/news/2019/02/14/anything-possible-declares-ocasio-cortez-after-defeat-amazons-corporate-greed-new) it was ditching its widely condemned plan (https://www.commondreams.org/news/2018/11/13/corporate-bribery-lands-amazon-hq2-queens-ocasio-cortez-says-outrage-best-describes) to locate a second headquarters site in Long Island City, Queens—a plan for which New York state would have given the online giant nearly $3 billion in tax incentives.

Plus, the politicos in NYC were on board with Amazon, to the point of approving the tax breaks, so no surprise here that they did the same somewhere else.

Main reason Amazon isn't in NYC is due to the push back of actual people.

Most other countries aren't hamstrung by a two-party system. AOC would do better to work on legislation that makes it possible for multiple conservative and multiple progressive parties to get candidates. A purity test to narrow the appeal of our already limited and unappealing parties is a bad approach.
