That was the case until the balls were juiced. Now HRs are a dime dozen. Even the Royals had a guy who won HR king. The game radically changed the last few years. And quit jinxing my football team. Your predictions have been proven to be garbage.

I would start Keuchel game1 regardless but especially since Soroka is so dominant on the road, that moves him to start the pivotal rubber match. Folty kinda stole the 3rd spot from Fried late in the season, Fried a bit too hot or cold. We'll definitely see him against the Dodgers
I have a big pub day planned for Monday (Game 4) so selfishly hoping the series stretches that far and Braves close it out. I wouldn't be surprised if the series goes 5.
I think Twins vs Yanks will be the 2nd best DLS.

Braves choked
https://i.ibb.co/nwFzHHw/Screenshot-2019-10-04-00-22-19-1.png
But honestly only had the lead because of surprisingly sloppy Cardinal defense. Snitker went to the bullpen too early and it really blew up in his face when Martin went down on the mound before even throwing a pitch to start the 8th
I dunno why he took out Fried to begin with after his dominating 7th. I guess it was to have him ready to start Game4 but as it turns out Martin is now OUT, Teheran IN and Julio might start Game 4. Zzz zzz
Cardinals hit well for most of the game after the 3rd Inning and Braves a team led by its offense was let down by its lack of hitting
I'll always remember Game1 as the Acuna game. How often does a player manage to piss off the opponent AND anger his own teammates in the same game. His imprint was all over this game with homer/double, thrown out stealing, diving catch and doubled up at 2nd. Oh yah and his jogging likely cost the Braves a 4-1 lead heading into that pivotal 8th inning
Cardinals played sloppy but Braves played dumb.

Probably because the managers fear the calculator heads in the FO coming down on them if they stay with the starter instead of "going with the analytics" and it backfires. Acuna was brilliant aside from that baserunning faux pas. Flaherty is going to be tough. I'm rooting for you (not because of matchup purposes, but the bullshit the Cardinals pull off in the playoffs is irritating. Pocket of full miracles at all times).

That is exactly what some fans said. Analytics told him too.
What if Braves win Flaherty's start but Cards come right back to take Soroka's?
Saw a stat from 2017 - DLS history winner of Game1 has advanced 72% of the time. Legit expected closer to 77%
Yah I still give Braves close to a coin flip chance in the series but that "here we go again" is alive & well. The stadium seemed really tense.

Another nail in the coffin of Kershaw's legacy. Hit two batters, afraid to throw the curveball, meatball to Rendon. I would say he could salvage this performance if he keeps the Nats to 3 runs until the 6th, but he's already at 60 pitches. He'll be out by the 4th or 5th.

He really made progress this year cutting down the Ks and hitting for average, but why I'll never put him on Trout's level (or Bregman's, who I think has emerged as the second best in the AL) is because of his height. Players of that build are traditionally feast or famine sluggers. Longer limbs=worse bat control.

Yeah I don't think they'll ever find something that compares well enough to baseball. Even in test the strategy pales in comparison to a 3 hour baseball game. It can be a little too one dimensional... especially after watching a lot of baseball

Damn sounds like I missed another fun day of Playoff baseball today at work
Few thoughts
- watching recording of Braves right now. Folty, what a performance. Looks like Snitker discovered something the way Fried is dealing out of the pen. Based on how Soroka performed against St.Louis this season and how Wainwright pitched versus Atlanta - Braves should be solid favorites to take 2-1 lead in the series. Only the pen on the road gives me hesitation
- so the win today assures Game 4 on Monday. I have big drinking day planned. Will check out 3-0 49ers on MNF later in the day for the first time. So my buddy is from Houston and we planned to watch them play
....on the West Coast the Astros/Rays game is scheduled for 10AM. Where does MLB come up with this shit.

Schildt is going to rue intentionally walking McCann to get to Swanson. I realize McCann has more experience against Martinez (3-11 lifetime) and it was lefty vs. righty, and Swanson is career 0-5, but this is where "feel" reigns over pure stats. McCann is past it, and Swanson has been hot all series. Not to mention, you put the go ahead run on base. Bad decision overall.

when you're down 4 runs, you gotta get at least half of that back in the middle innings

A team that has confidence in themselves and know they are capable of getting the runs back do not panic.

It seems like I say this every playoffs but this is why I think 5 games series suck. It’s too much of a risk because basically every game needs to be approached like a game 7 if you’re the #1 seed.
Just make all rounds best of 7.

I hope he's fired, but he does what Friedman's print out sheets tell him to do. It's actually the Dodgers blind allegiance to analytics that keeps them from getting over the hump. The idiotic FO needs to understand large sample size methods don't work in the playoffs, and it's more about taking advantage of situations. This team still doesn't take advantage of small ball situations, doesn't creatively use their bullpen, doesn't value speed, and stupidly thinks regression to the mean is guaranteed.

I will say this: it's not just Kerchoke, the Dodgers' offense was incredibly undisciplined at the plate. Seager especially looked like Mark Reynolds the way he was swinging at everything. I know some of that is just how the game is played nowadays, but still, you don't always have to swing at the first pitch.
The Dodgers have a serious problem with a team full of playoff chokers who are now pressing in every playoff game because they're so desperate to avoid failure, as well as a manager who goes into panic mode as soon as the playoffs begin.

Yankees have also tweaked their approach. They grind out ABs now (remember, "Savages in the Box"), which was definitely done with a potential Astros matchup in mind, since you ain't beating that staff by swinging away, as the Rays are showing. Yankees weakness is starting pitching, of course. Severino can look good against the Twins all he wants, but that guy is meltdown waiting to happen. 5.33 post season ERA. Tanaka is their only lockdown guy. But I do agree if it's the Rays, they'll be a dogfight.

They have too heavy a reliance on three true outcomes. If they're not hitting homeruns or extra bases, they seem incapable of scoring. The club is allergic to small ball.

I just hope the Yanks don't get homer happy, because if they do, Cole and Verlander will eat them alive and we'll be looking at a bunch of boring 3-1, 4-1 games where Astros jump out and the Yanks flail away trying to play hero, like tonight. Post-season baseball is about meltdowns, back-and-forth leads, chokejobs with one out away. As much as I appreciate someone like Gerritt Cole's craft, their dominance can be boring to watch.

Gerritt Cole is looking like 2014 Madbum. An auto-win every time he takes the mound. Luckily for the Yanks, they won't see him till game 3. But Verlander still looms. I don't expect him to be that shaky again. Greinke is hit-or-miss, per par over his post-season career.
1st time Verlander has done post season on 3 days is what is reported. For that matter career? While I do not think he is infallible, (he obviously isn't) I would look for his next start to be very good+. Ditto Greinke. Usually after a rare stinker he comes back great. That retard Domingo German may have cheated us out of an all time great series. Oh well Yanks are still very capable of winning.
But...GTFO rookies. Astros gonna win.

MLB cheating for the Cards as per usual. 2012 infield fly and 2011 WS strikezone all over again.
But seriously, MLB needs to pick a ball and fucking stick with it. I hope they stick with this non juiced up version for good.
They still make money on their most notorious cheater.

I'm just making the call. Would require a monster change (which of course is possible). The bats have gone through super inconsistent stages this year and I don't see it changing

True, but they've been anemic the entire postseason. I understand they've faced some good pitchers, but you can see it when they're at the plate that they're trying to force the issue. If I didn't know any better I'd say I was watching the Doyers at the plate.

Yeah. They seem very impatient. If the Yankees continue their trajectory, I think they'll go down as a historic great offense. Even power hitters like Judge are content to slap a ball oppo instead of trying to dinger. Gleybar is fuckin' amazing. That ball he hit for a bloop on a 3-2 was ridiculous.

Good game, but good god MLB needs to do something about pitching changes. If you're going to allow unlimited pitching changes, it needs to be near-instant. Should take 20 seconds max. Pitcher doesn't need additional mound warm up pitches. 3 batter minimum rule should help with that next year, hopefully.

that's really going to hurt the analytics people and specialization... offenses can just put a left handed batter who destroys righty pitchers and vice versa

He is the best. His NFL knowledge is second to none (maybe Al Michaels) for play-by-play announcers. He color commentates well in his own games because Troy Aikman is a boring dud.

ideally you hold them to 1 through that long, but fortunately for the Astros the bullpen came up clutch.
