that's par value though, nothing special

ideally you hold them to 1 through that long, but fortunately for the Astros the bullpen came up clutch.
Great. You show me the list of playoff pitchers who do that "par" on the regular. Against a good hitting team like the Yankees.
Hinch is a strategy moron who, along with the rest of modern day MLB never sacrifice to get a run in.
Bottom 2nd men on 2b and 3b you got to put the bat on the ball and attempt to get a run in. Nope, modern day MLB don't think like that.

with nobody out? yeah, sac fly all day. Even in a shootout, a run is a run. It seems like the bunts and sac flies only tend to happen in NL pitcher's duels these days.

Verlander is a dumpster fire. Gone the way of 2016 Jake Arrieta. Washed up. Too much Kate Upton pussy juice, I guess.

Huh? He did what he was supposed to do. The Yankees have great arms. Judge alone can wreck a team by himself so the fact he kept it at 2 and got a no decision is a win.

The Astros offense is the one that needs to wake up. You're not going to beat the Yankees scoring 1 run a game.

Nats go up 3-0 today surely. Flaherty is a gun but he can't help a terrible hitting team. Fowler still in the lineup makes me :lol

Are the Cardinals really going out like chumps? Pathetic waste of my time.

Been a pretty bad post-season thus far. October baseball is about improbable 2-out rallies, collapses, spotlight chokejobs, dumb errors that lead to big rallies. Started out great with the Brewers vs. Nats Wild Card game and a solid Braves/Cards series that ended with a shitty blowout, but other than the Kershaw choke, no classic games. This post-season has been defined by one team racing out to a 2 or 3 run lead and then a Strasberg, Scherzer, Cole, on the leading team just mowing down batter after batter with strikeouts.

Manfred is too limp dicked to do anything about it, though. This is the future of baseball if he doesn't rebalance the game to give hitters a buff. In any given season, there shouldn't be more strikeouts than hits. I still won't :lol today's MLB, because Manfred is "letting the game progress," while the NBA took a sport that didn't need any rebalancing (there was nothing wrong 2000s basketball) and forced rule changes to create the chuckball we see today. It's not like the MLB moved the mound up a foot to create more strikeouts.

I'd like to see a 2004 type Red Sox comeback. The Cardinals seems like a team that could pull that off.

That said, the nats seem kind of destined for a WS trip to just get swept by iether the Astros or Yankees there.

Eh Cards were easily the worst team in the postseason season, especially on offense. The only reason they got this far was cuz of the shitty NL Central + Braves choke job.

Grienke then Verlander announced by Hirsh for 4 and 5.

Big Ears yet to announce Tanaka for Game 4 but i would think he will. Tank said he "was gassed" after 68 pitches in Game 1s beauty.

Stategy: If Greinke gets smacked around again / Tank silences Astros bats, I would put in Wade Miley in relief. Especially if Greinke gets knocked early. Do not blow your top bullpen in a long drawn out Gm 4 loss only to have them not available for Game 5 Verlander.

like I said, playing the Astros in the playoffs means having to steal 1 from either Cole (not possible) or Verlander (possible, but still quite tough) without fucking up in a different game like the Yanks did tonight. And you still have to deal with the Astros bats even if one of the aces isn't available.

So many stupid decisions by Boone in the series. Went to the pen too early in game 2. Still goes with Edwin Encarnacion at the 5th sport when he was historically struggling (lowest OPS in ALCS in history). Doesn't command Gregorious not to first pitch swing for the 100th time in a high leverage spot. Too much faith in Gary Sanchez. Also, Stanton remains a China Doll. Not that he would've mattered. He's basically a guaranteed strikeout in the playoffs.

that's what I'm thinking. Cole and Verlander (although I'm iffy on him) pitching the first 2 is a big advantage for the Astros because they're at home in DH territory and when the lesser pitchers and bullpen take over the next 2-3 games they basically get a free out every 9 batters.

main thing is not to get into an extra inning game in the middle 3, that can historically prove trouble for AL teams pitching wise

MLB needs to fix the leagues, either go both DH, or no DH. As a lifelong Astros fan, I was very much anti-DH, always thought NL baseball was more pure. However, now that I follow the AL, I must say my stance has changed. The game is better offensively, while pitchers can focus on their main task only. The DH is used in college. IMO, both leagues should finally bring unity to the game and use the DH.

League wide DH is coming. They will argue it decreases injuries to pitchers and allows more parity since pitchers are so expensive. I also think it is why you are seeing all this stadium netting going up.

I think NL play is more interesting. Base runners keep me more intrigued than waiting on home runs.

They're actually a pretty stacked team. Just got off to a slow start, but had the best record in the NL since like July. Bullpen is their weak link. Houston needs to gameplan around working their starters pitch count up to get them out by the 6th. Then they'll feast on that pen.

Players like Alvarez always kill teams in leverage spots in the playoffs. Their game is tailored for beating up on a mid-tier pitchers during the regular season. I'm not saying Alvarez won't improve, he's a rookie and a raw talent, but the Joey Gallo approach won't cut it against stud pitching.

Yep. Kurt Suzuki hitting clutch homeruns, Bregman booting fairly routine plays to spark that big inning. All the way back to the automatic Josh Hader melting down and blowing the lead. Everything breaking their way. But full credit to them. Every batter in that lineup tries to be a tough out and put the ball the play, which leads to shit like the Bregman error and the comeback against the Brewers. I wish the Dodgers would learn that rather than just try to hit dingers with every swing.

I could see Cole going Madbum this series. Game 1 was still a bit of a fluke until the Nats can prove they can get to him again. If the Stros win tomorrow, Cole pitches Game 5 and probably closes out a potential Game 7 on the back of a Greinke 5 inning start. Series just got fun. Even if the Astros lose, they still have another Gerritt Cole start in their pocket at the very least. Then Verlander for Game 6.

Eh, at this point Verlander shouldn't be counted on. He's been mediocre outside game 1 against Tampa. The Astros bullpen came through against the Yankees so they might be up to the task again.

Yeah, Verlander's been shaky, but I think he's got one more classic performance in him. Hopefully the Astros figure it out, this series deserves to go 7. I'd love to see a game 7 situation when it's 2-2 in the mid-innings and Scherzer and Cole come out of the pen.

Brantley's become one of my favorite hitters to watch.

This has all the makings of a backdoor sweep.

Nats are really crumbling. A lot of terrible at bats. Urqidy and Harris were solid, but they left a lot of hittable pitches.
