Anthony Johnson’s appeal to the Nevada State Athletic Commission of a controversial July 19th TKO loss to Kevin Burns due to an eye poke at UFC Fight Night 14 has been denied.

"Based on advice from the Nevada Attorney General’s office, the appeal was rejected due to lack of remedy," [NSAC Executive Director Keith] Kizer revealed to MMAFrenzy.com.

I'm stunned.

No Contest

There's your damn remedy....at least give the kid that. No financial impact...no fines or penalties....no suspensions.

I still don't blame Maz since he was on the other side and couldn't see the poke and it was a reasonable assumption that he was KO'd since he went down like a KO so I fully blame NSAC for this.

I wondered why Melvin was pulled from that upcoming card...

Guillard Arrested on Drug Probation Violation
Monday, September 15, 2008
by Loretta Hunt ([email protected])

UFC lightweight contender Melvin Guillard was arrested Aug. 13 in Houston for violating probation on a 2007 drug charge, a Harris County deputy told Sherdog.com.

The 25-year-old New Orleans native is in custody at the Harris County jail in Houston, the deputy said last Thursday, and will be released to a drug treatment facility as soon as space becomes available per the terms of his recently amended probation.

Details of the violation were not readily available.

Guillard (21-7-2) was quietly pulled last week from a scheduled bout with Spencer Fisher at UFC 90 on Oct. 25 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. Fisher will now face southern California standout Shannon Gugerty (11-2).

Guillard, who is 4-3 inside the Octagon after a 36-second onslaught on German Denis Siver at UFC 86 in July, was originally arrested on Aug. 3 2007 for possession of a controlled substance (less than a gram). Under a two-year probation finalized on Oct. 10, 2007, Guillard was deferred jail time in favor of a fine, restitution and/or community service, and had to report regularly to a parole officer.

From 5ozofpain...

Juanito Ibarra, a converted boxing trainer that at one time could boast working with the likes of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Michael Bisping, has lost yet another fighter.

Published reports indicate that UFC heavyweight Cheick Kongo has left Ibarra in order to join Jackson and Bisping at the Wolfslair MMA Academy in Liverpool, England.

Ibarra had been Jackson’s trainer and manager but was relieved of his duties following Jackson’s upset loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 86 in July.

Jackson has not publicly addressed the reasons for his decision to part ways with Ibarra, but former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz recently accused Ibarra of overcharging Jackson to run his training camps.

I really hope Rampage knows what he is doing here. Ibarra took him a long way. Rampage's standup has grown leaps and bounds since he started working with Ibarra and he supposedly has to fight Wandy in Nov. Who beat him twice in Pride. I'm guessing there is some truth to what Tito is saying here since he and Page are supposedly still good friends.

Billed as the “World Cup of Mixed Martial Arts,” the M-1 Challenge is set to premiere on HDNet this Friday at 8 p.m. ET.

Over the course of the past year, 10 teams representing eight different countries (including two teams from Russia along with an international team) competed in events held all over the world to determine the first-ever winner of the M-1 Challenge.

Much like the IFL’s team concept, each country fields a team with a representative in the five major individual weight classes including lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight.

Hosted by former PRIDE announcer Sean Wheelock and Jimmy Smith of the Discovery Channel’s “Fight Quest,” U.S. fans will be able to tune in each and every Friday and see how the tournament unfolded. Friday’s premiere episode will feature France taking on the famed Russian Red Devil team.

In-fucking SANE CARD right there. I can't wait for NOV, i am shitting myself with excitement. Plus the MMA forum will be here by then, so it will be even better. :toast

And Evan, i am where you are in that fight. I love Wandy and Page. It is rare when i have to just sit back and watch and not root for a fighter but this will be one of those rare occasions. I was so happy for Wandy when he beat Jardine, he needed that win badly. I felt Page got a bit of a raw deal with the Forrest fight. I mean he did way more damage and lost his title. Not a fan of the judging that night. Who needs the win more?? Probably Wandy, since he has lost 3 of his last 4. Page however is looking for a big comeback and wants to get right back in title contention assuming he avoids jail time on these charges.

The best outcome for this fight is a Liddell Wanderlei'esque slugfest where nobody really loses....

Got to hand it to the ufc...they grind everyone...not many easy fights out there.

And to your question...Wanderlei needs this far more than Jackson IMO.

"I kicked ASS and the UFC paid me Dick"

"Dana White is an Asshole"

"How to Kick Ken Shamrock's ass in 6 easy steps"

"Dana White is an asshole"

"I refused to fight Chuck because i knew i would lose, and they were still paying me Dick"

"Dana White is an asshole"

"What it's like to Knock up a former trashy porn-star"

I like Tito but the man has his flaws

SWICK VS GOULET AT ULTIMATE FIGHTER 8 FINALE
Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - by Ken Pishna - MMAWeekly.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweights Mike Swick and Jonathan Goulet have agreed to fight on the finale of season eight of The Ultimate Fighter on Dec. 13, according to Goulet’s manager, Ken Pavia of MMA Agents.

The bout will be Swick’s third since making the move from the middleweight division down to 170 pounds. He is 2-0 in his new weight class, defeating both Josh Burkman and Marcus Davis by decision, but hasn’t yet found his vaunted knockout power in the lighter division.

The fight with Goulet will mark Swick’s first bout since undergoing surgery in July to remove bone fragments and bone spurs.

“I had a few bone fragments floating around in my elbow joint causing inflammation. There were also bone spurs that needed to be removed. It has been ongoing for a while,” he told MMAWeekly.com in an August interview. “It reduced my flexibility in the right arm and if it was extended too much it would swell up and be useless for a few days until the inflammation went down.”

He is now looking forward to a return to form. “I am extremely motivated and excited to get back in the Octagon… Mentally and physically I will be where I need to be to return to the aggressive, explosive fighter that I used to be.”

Swick and Goulet were originally slated to fight at UFC Fight Night 11 a year ago. Swick bowed out due to injury and Goulet ended up losing via submission to Dustin Hazelett. He has since gone on a three-fight winning streak, including his last two in the Octagon.

I like Goulet, but frankly he's got a weak chin. I don't see this ending well for him.

During a recent interview with Tatame.com, UFC middleweight Demian Maia announced that he will be taking on Nate "The Rock" Quarry at UFC 91 on November 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The undefeated Maia last fought at UFC 87 where he defeated Jason MacDonald via submission. Nate Quarry last fought at UFC 83 where he earned a unanimous decision victory over Kalib Starnes. Starnes was released after that fight due to the fact that he refused to engage with Quarry and basically ran around the cage the whole time. UFC 91 will be headlined by Randy Couture defending his UFC heavyweight title against Brock Lesnar.

NOGUEIRA BROTHERS OPEN TEAM NOGUEIRA DALLAS
Friday, September 19, 2008 - MMAWeekly.com Staff

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Both Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and his brother have been very successful as trainers in the field of mixed martial arts and now the tandem is expanding into Texas with the opening of “Team Nogueira” Dallas, which will be located in the new Octagon MMA gym.

The Nogueira brothers are hopeful to train new mixed martial artists while continuing to teach and broaden their Brazilian Jiu-jitsu education to new students in the Dallas area.

“We are bringing the best mixed martial arts and Brazilian jiu-jitsu training that most people in Dallas have not experienced before,” said Nogueira. “We’ve developed training programs for men, women and children, as well as competitive fighters.”

Lead trainer, Greg Seal, owner of Octagon MMA, who is a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu black belt and who has trained with the Nogueira team for the past six years is very positive about bringing the popular fighter’s style to the Dallas based gym.

“Learning jiu-jitsu changed my life for the better,” said Seal. “Jiu-jitsu has given me a level of fitness and sense of confidence that I don’t get from other sports or activities.”

The Nogueira brothers will be in Dallas to help introduce the school from Oct. 13 through the 18 while the grand opening takes place.

After being scrapped from UFC 89 because of Thiago Silva’s back injury, Lyoto Machda keeps training in Brazil, but less than before. With his back to the octagon still undefined, Machida waits for the UFC to set his next bout. “I continue training, I can’t be caught unprepared for a fight, but I’m training less now, doing only some physical training, Jiu-Jitsu and Karatê… They didn’t say anything, but told me that this fight (with Thiago Silva) still can happen”, said the fighter, who would need to wait for his recovery to come back to the octagon.

But if it depended on his decision, he’d come back tomorrow with another opponent. “I’m waiting for any situation, or face him, if he gets better, or having another opponent. I would like to face Rashad Evans, and the winner gets a title shot, but now it seems like they will put him against Forrest Griffin… I’d like to face him and the winner gets Griffin, it’s a good way”, suggests Machida, who waits for a top opponent for his next fight.

“I don’t know how it’s gonna be, I’m ready to fight, but don’t wanna fight anyone, because I’m building my way in UFC and I wanna fight the top fighters so that they could give me a title shot after”, says. Between the option in the light-heavyweight Top 10 ranking is Maurício Shogun, getting better from a knee injury and waiting to fight in December, still without and opponent. If Machida could choose, another Brazilian fight could happen. “I never chose opponents, I leave it to UFC and my managers, what they want for me is good. If they think fight Shogun is better I’ll do it, I’m prepared to for everything”, guarantees Machida.

Sorry no source...someone posted it on a forum with no link

Anderson Silva retirement talk

UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva was recently interviewed by Brazilian cable channel SporTV. The TV show [Sensei SporTV], featuring Spider, will air on September 27, but the editors released a shocking exert from the interview with Silva, when the champion spoke on his retirement from MMA:

"I'll retire next year, I already gave my all. I don't need to prove anything for anyone and within one year I'll put my gloves aside."

Ana Hissa, the editor who contacted us with this breaking news, was emphatic, saying that Silva mentioned retirement several times. This was unimaginable for them because Silva is in the best stage of his career and is the king pin of UFC's 185 pounds division.

We where unable to reach the fighter to add more on this bombastic interview or to know if he'll leave MMA and move to Pro Boxing.

I say shenanigans

a few months ago he says he wants to fight 6 to 10 times a year and now this? Meh...

He might retire if he really wants to box and is pissed off the UFC won't let him do it on the side. He has no competiton at all at 185. Maybe he doesn't want to fight much at 205

I dunno….he doesn't do a good job defending himself. If it was me and I was innocent I would be more outspoken along with a lot of specifics.

The UFC did that when Randy was lying and made him look like an ass and won the public relations battle which was an impossible task given the UFC's image at the time.

These fighters seem to put too much faith in 1 person and I think one day we may hear how Fedor was pillaged. That camp is more secretive than North Korea.

HMMMMMMM…….some of these people are in no way shape or form ready for the UFC.

They really need to be signing a slew of fighters now.

I wonder if they will be making some phone calls to a lot of previous TUF guys.

Interesting stuff there. He and Ibarra were very close and he took Rampage a long way. He is a much better fighter now than he was a few years ago. I hope he is getting first class training still especially with his fight with Wandy coming up. He doesn't want to lose to him for a 3rd time. I think after the loss (Cough Bullshit) to Forrest everyone was playing the blame game. Probably Jackson's people around him were in his ear on a lot of things. Personally i did not feel he was in the shape he was in when he fought Chuck and Henderson. He had too much time off in between fights and did not look as ready to go.

Thoughts on whether he comes off as believable???

I really don't know. I just bought the UFC DVD, where Rampage fought Henderson and Page and Ibarra really looked tight. Ibarra came off as almost a father figure to Rampage. Was he using that closeness to take advantage of him?? Maybe. The effection seemed genuine from what i saw. The interview didn't tell me much as he didn't really say a whole lot.

Hey Evan i just bought UFC 84 on DVD and Lyoto still sucks :p:

Seriously though, as good as he is he just runs too damn much. There was actually an exhange in the 2nd RD where Tito with about 10 seconds to go, put his hands down out of anger, and Lyoto ran in threw 3 or 4 haymakers, Tito blocked them and Lyoto put his hands up and literally ran backwards all the way into the fence until the RD ended. He is very skilled but he'll never be loved fighting like that. Not when you got warriors like Wandy and Rampage that want to get in your face and bang like Gladiators. I also don't think he has much punching power and he looks a little scared to get hit.

I agree with that logic but from what i have seen he is going to have to engage a lot more if he wants those KO's to come. I don't see one Punch KO power from him. He is more of a punches in bunches guy like Forrest. Gotta get into the danger zone and look to enagage for more than a second here or there if you want KO highlight reels.

"Hey how is that DVD anyway? I will check it out on netflix"

Karo inks an 8 fight deal

I love the UFC. I love Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta, they’re one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and that’s the truth. I don’t kiss ass. I had a meeting with them last week they gave me a new, eight fight contract and the deal is I’m happy with them, I’m happy with the UFC. But the deal is there is a lot of stuff even Dana can’t control. He can’t control a lot of the referees. A lot of the judges are from the commission so he can’t control all those guys. It’s very hard. He can control [them] a certain amount of time [and] a certain amount of people, but not everything

Frank Shamrock gold...

Stolen from bloody elbow who stole it from someone else who stole it from someone else.....etc.......

On Shamrock vs Kimbo, and potential Shamrock vs Shamrock:

'I know that Ken has ten times the skills that Kimbo has, but can he put it together at this age with this many injuries, and you know with the way life is - it's always the big question. So honestly I don't know. I hope he smashes him and then we set up a fantastic PPV with him and I. You never know.'

On Chuck Liddel getting KO:

'I don't watch the UFC, so I didn't see it, but I'm a huge Chuck Liddel fan. It sounds to me like it was lazy boxing and he got caught. Which he's always doing lazy boxing, and a couple guys stay in the pocket, they aren't scared, and they throw straight punches, and he just fell victim to that.'

On UFC:

'I built that whole company. ... I was the first middleweight champion and I set a couple of world records there for them.'

'There are a lot of problems with the sport. One of them is the monopoly that the UFC holds on it, so I made a tough call. And that was, do I join the monopoly, and give my brand and my dream over to these people who I know don't care, or do I follow my dream? I decided to follow my dream.'

'They don't tell the truth, they tell what makes the most amount of money. They don't support the sport,, they do what makes the most amount of money.'

On Dana White ('that bald headed dude', as the host put it):

'I've never not gotten along with him, I just don't think he's a good representative of MMA. I don't think the promoter should try to be a star, and I don't think that you need to curse and wear skin tight shirts and be a weirdo when you're the lead face of MMA.'

On Kimbo:

'I like him. He's got a great look, a great persona, he goes out and fights - that's what it's all about. In the beginning I didn't know who he was, I thought he was a complete idiot. I realized, people like him because he's just your regular street thug type dude who went for it, and he made it there. He's got your little American dream story. '

Evan did you ever see, the UFC 65 DVD when Tim fought Jeff Monson?? It was hilarious in the behind the scenes. Tim went on and on for 20 min about how Monson because he is only like 5'9 is such an easy fight for him, that he'll KO him in Round 1, he had ZERO respect for the guy whatsoever. He must have said the fight will be "Easy" like 15 times. Then as you know he goes out there and stinks it up for 5 rds, barely throwing a hard shot, doing just enough to win most of the rounds getting boo'd all the way through. When it was over, he says to everyone that "Oh yeah we all knew it would be hard to KO him, because he was going to try and take me down so much"

LOL, Tim was hilarious to me in the UFC. The fans hated him and he always stuck his foot in his mouth to boot.

Oh I agree....I genuinely thought it was a funny line.

QUICK AND RANDOM THOUGHTS from Rich Franklin on diet, training, lifting, fitness, fighting tips and whatever else comes to mind...

DO FIGHT CLUBS REALLY EXIST?

People still talk about the 1999 cult classic, Fight Club, starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. This drama is about two young guys who start an underground place where bare-fisted combat takes place. The movie continues to appeal to some, it still generates buzz. (It also offers us the memorable line, “This is your life and it’s ending one minute at a time.”)

Do fight clubs really exist? I’ve been asked and I say I really don’t know. Likely, if there’s money to be minted, they must exist somewhere.

If I ever happen upon one I’ll bolt in the opposite direction – of that I’m sure. Even bars have more illegal violence than I care to be around. I don’t need to have my career in jeopardy at a crazy fight club with no rules, referees or law enforcement. That’s not sport.

If fight clubs really are around, the fighters and spectators must know what they’re getting into. Hollywood cannot be fairly blamed for causing any raw violence, because people know right from wrong. Responsibility flows out of that awareness – and most everyone accepts this. A teaspoon of sense is all it takes.

Felipe Maurer de Barros: How many fights do you still have in your UFC contract?

Brandon Vera: After this fight with Keith Jardine I will have one more fight with the UFC.

Felipe Maurer de Barros: Which fighter would you like to face in the light heavyweight division and why?

Brandon Vera: There are so many good fighters in the light heavyweight division that are phenomenal (and) I will probably have to face them all some day.

Felipe Maurer de Barros: Who are you training with these days?

Brandon Vera: I train with a whole slew of guys. Dominic Cruz, Gary Padillia, to Gator Man “Jacare,” Rampage Jackson, Tim Carpenter, Cain Velasquez… the list goes on and on.

Felipe Maurer de Barros: Talk about your loss to Fabrício Werdum? Do you still want a rematch?

Brandon Vera: I’m still upset about that fight and I can’t wait to get that avenged.

Felipe Maurer de Barros: Could you explain us what really happened about your proposed fight against Lyoto Machida? Did you really deny the fight against him or it was a misunderstanding?

Brandon Vera: I said that I did not want to fight Lyoto Machia on short notice. For a fighter like him I need to study his gameplan and be ready for that fight. I didn’t want to take it on three and a half weeks notice.

Don Frye Gold...

On being sober and resuming his career

Frye certainly wouldn't be the oldest competitor in elite-level MMA. UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture has single-handedly rewritten the books on what can be accomplished by a fighter that most would deem over the hill.

Frye also wouldn't be the first legend to wander into relative obscurity before making a return to the sport's highest level. With UFC 93's recent addition of 43-year-old Mark Coleman's , the door has been opened for other pioneers of the sport to return.

But don't expect Frye to follow precisely in Coleman's footsteps.

"For some reason (UFC President) Dana White doesn't like me, and I don't care enough to find out why," Frye said. "So he can go pound sand up his ass as far as I'm concerned."

Instead Frye, a veteran of the UFC, PRIDE, K-1, DEEP and King of the Cage, will focus on alternate paths to the MMA forefront as he plays out the remainder of his 12-year career.

"I've got about two years left," Frye said. "Eventually I'll get my head out of my ass and make another run at it."

And never one for self-censoring, Frye said he won't limit his options -- with one notable exception.

"I'm a whore," Frye admitted. "It's all about the money. I'll fight for anybody but the UFC."

Rashad Evans can suck my motherfucking dick!

Listen: So a New Mexico based show called my gym last Thursday talking about they need someone to fight Rashad's brother at 205 in TWO days. Our boy Frank Lester, who fights at 185, is out of shape, but says he'll do it cuz he's broke as a joke...lol Soooo the next morning he's on a plane to NM. He weighs in at 192 to fight a bigger, stronger, in shape, light heavyweight.

Fight day comes and Frank's super nervous...he's knows he's not well prepared, knows he's smaller, knows he was brought there to lose, and to top it all off he's a fan of Rashad Evans and it's a bit intimidating to have him in the opposing corner.

Anyway the fight kicks off and within the first minute Frank gets dropped and grounded and pounded...some how he manages to survive and starts to turn the tide a bit. The first round ends and in the corner Wade tells him to just go out there and go for it....swing for the fences.

Round two starts and Frank comes out aggressive, he stops Evans' shots and ends up dropping him with a knee and as he is getting up pins him against the fans and bashed him with punches until Evans' VERBALLY QUIT!!

So Frank is super happy and backstage he goes up to Evans and says good job/good fight and Evans says the same. Then Frank walks up to Rashad and tells him its an honor to meet him and tries to shake his hand....Rashad looked him up and down....made a stupid lil noise with his mouth....turned around and walked away.

Go cry Rashad...sorry your bro couldn't beat a guy who took a fight on two days notice, who was out of shape and was like 20 pounds lighter. You might be a great fighter but that's no reason to treat the guys under you like punks. Suck a dick cool guy.

Funny thing about me and the Mavs...

I was a very big Mavericks fan when they were complete garbage up until they embarrassed the entire league by their Heat meltdown. I'm not sure what happened but my interest has been on a steady decline since then until now which is close to nothing.

Either my interests just naturally changed as they do for people over time or that loss just sucked the NBA life out of me.

Basically just NFL, MMA, EPL for me nowadays with NHL taking up the rear. In that order.

While it is still unknown when WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko will return to action, one date can certainly be removed from consideration.

Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio recently told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he has been assured by Emelianenko's management team that the Russian will not be appearing on New Year's Eve for DREAM -- or any organization.

"I've been told actually 100 percent that he is not fighting on New Year's Eve," Atencio said. "[The members of Emelianenko's management team] are our partners. We have extended his contract, and that's where we're at."

Emelianenko has fought on year-ending cards in Japan annually since 2003. A recent appearance by Emelianenko in Japan at DREAM.6 fueled speculation that the 32-year-old was looking to keep that tradition alive.

Atencio said the speculation was not based in fact.

"I spoke with [Emelianenko's managers] the other day, and they said he is not fighting," Atencio said. "So that's just rumors."

I think Fedor does not take his career nearly as serious as others do. He's the best in the world but does not seem to care much about proving it to others. Although his dessimation of Sylvia, was proof enough for me.

He's not really a MMA fan and doesn't follow it. Its amazing how some elite athletes in their respective fields don't care too much for their sport. Josh Hamilton for the awful Texas Rangers, he says baseball is boring but just likes playing it.

So do you think that he is so physically talented that he almost half-asses it in training and it doesn't matter or when it is time to go to work, he busts his butt getting ready for a fight?? Then just turns it off when he is done. Maybe that is why Randy wants this so BAD. He thinks, he'll out-work Fedor in camp and it will show up in the fight.

No need to be nervous he is not going anywhere. He maybe is waiting for the Penn fight to be over to negotiate a deal. Or maybe the hold-up on inking that fight is his new contract being ironed out right now. I am very confident he'll win that fight. Only scenario i could see there being a problem is if he loses to Penn and the UFC tries to dick him over on a new deal. He probably will want a deal with nice PPV percentages and what not. The UFC is the only big time game in town. He can't really go anywhere for long anyway.

I read that as well but i don't think that means he is going FA. Long-Term it is all about the UFC. GSP is not like Tito. Of course GSP wants to get paid but Tito is really only fighting for money these days. His legacy is no longer relevant as he can't beat so many top 205 pd fighters. GSP believes he can beat anyone. Sure but also you are the one that is always saying how all these companies are bleeding money left and right. So logically long-term GSP can't really leave than right

If he wanted a big pay-day or 2 i guess he could but this is a scenario where the UFC would just have to anti-up. This is GS Friggin P we are talking about. The shit the UFC would take for losing him would never be worth the extra cash, they could just give him to stay. They just tore up Randy's contract and gave him a new one. I think they have learned their lesson.

Evan let me ask you. Do you know if GSP was getting a good slice of the PPV?? I know he was making about 200 grand or a little less after he won. So he was getting like 150 to show, 50 to win and maybe a bonus for fight of the night and whatever he got in sponsorship. Perhaps he wants a nice slice of that PPV (HE deserves it) and his new agency is playing hardball with that.

UFC signs Mo...

Sources: UFC signs U.K. fighter Abdul Mohamed for UFC 93
by Kieran Malone on Oct 07, 2008 at 7:30 pm ET
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has further added to its growing roster of European talent by inking a deal with top U.K. lightweight Abdul Mohamed (16-6-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

Sources close to Mohamed told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) of the signing on Monday, though terms of the contract were not undisclosed.

Mohamed is expected to make his debut at UFC 93, which takes place Jan. 17 in Dublin, Ireland.

No opponent has been determined.

Mohamed, a five year-veteran of the sport, has fought the entirety of his career in the U.K. A member of the expanding Wolfslair gym, he will join stablemates Michael Bisping, Paul Kelly, Quinton Jackson and Cheick Kongo on the UFC roster.

Mohamed has been a longtime target of the UFC, and he had been a rumored participant during past UFC shows in the U.K.

Mohamed is a powerhouse grappler known for overwhelming his opponents with wrestling and dominant top position control. He picked up a unanimous-decision victory over Ross Pearson at Cage Gladiators 9 this past weekend. The victory is believed to have secured the UFC deal, sources close to the fighter said.

During his career, Mohamed has competed against the likes of former Cage Rage champion and EliteXC fighter Paul Daley, whom he fought to a draw, and grappling sensation Vitor Ribeiro, to whom he lost via submission. He holds victories over the likes of Jean Silva, Ross Pointon and Robbie Olivier.

I dont know if anyone cares...but this is from 411mania/MMA

The following comes from The BBC News:

Cage fighters 'behind £53m raid'

Two cage fighters masterminded the £53m raid on a Securitas depot in Kent and then fled to Morocco, a jury was told.

Paul Allen and Lee Murray, 29, were at the heart of the raid in Tonbridge in February 2006, the Old Bailey heard.

Mr Allen, 30, of Chatham, was extradited to the UK while Mr Murray remains in a Moroccan jail.

Mr Allen is on trial along with Michael Demetris, 32, of Bromley Common, south London. Both deny conspiracy to rob, to kidnap, and to possess a firearm.

Mr Allen and Mr Demetris, a hairdresser, are accused of conspiring with five other men who were jailed in January after being found guilty of kidnap, robbery and firearms charges in connection with Britain's biggest cash raid.

During the raid, depot manager Colin Dixon and his family were kidnapped at gunpoint by men posing as police officers.

Telephone records

Sir John Nutting QC, prosecuting, said Mr Allen and Mr Murray were friends of long standing, and both worked part-time as cage fighters, a martial arts activity.

"We have their telephone records. In the period leading up to 21 February they speak regularly during the day and almost invariably last thing at night," he said.

The two, it was said, had hoped to remain living in Morocco and share proceeds from the raid.

Sir John told jurors that evidence at the Securitas trial held last year provided by Michelle Hogg, who applied prosthetic masks to disguise members of the gang, led to Mr Demetris being charged.

The court heard that Mr Murray allegedly began to take an interest in the Securitas depot in summer 2005 and later that year he and Mr Allen bought several pay-as-you-go mobile phones and SIM cards.

In January 2006, the pair visited a specialist security shop to buy covert miniature cameras and recording equipment, used in the reconnaissance of the depot and the Dixons' home.

Mr Murray also bought police clothing used in the robbery on eBay, as well as a paintball mask from a shop which he used as a disguise, while Mr Allen helped buy one of the cars used in the kidnapping and to transport the robbers to and from the depot, the court heard.

Mr Murray allegedly helped buy prosthetic material and wore a prosthetic disguise made by Miss Hogg, which he used to pose as a policeman during the kidnapping of the Dixons.

Jurors were also told that a few days before the raid Mr Allen visited Herne Bay, where his mobile phone signal was detected near the Dixons' home in the early hours of two consecutive mornings.

Sir John said Mr Allen was also with Miss Hogg when she applied prosthetic masks to the robbers, and allowed his home in Chatham to be used by Mr Demetris to "perfect the disguises" just before the kidnapping.

"He may well have actually participated in the robbery and, after it, he assisted the other conspirators to unwrap a large number of holdalls which were used to take the proceeds of the robbery away," he said.

He told the court there was no suggestion that Mr Demetris, who employed Miss Hogg at his hair salon, was a kidnapper or robber.

Mobile phone call

However, he had introduced her to the conspirators "so that her expertise could be used in the creation of disguises" and "organised" her life, encouraging her to work at home on the disguises and helping her generally, he said.

"After the robbery he instructed Michelle Hogg what to say to police if she was interviewed," the court was told.

Referring to Mr Murray, Sir John said a conversation between him and Lea Rusha, one of the five men jailed in January, was accidentally recorded on Mr Murray's mobile.

The trial was also told of another alleged robber - Keyinde Patterson, known as Cane, who has not been arrested and may be in the West Indies.

Jurors heard that £20m from the robbery was recovered within a month.

The trial continues.

Which sucks because Sam is nailing so many awesome exclusive interviews but its too hard to navigate. Seems like everyone has run off to bloodyelbow.com which for some bizarre reason (probably "blood".) Love that site.

Anyway....just my rant.

Today, MMARated.com has learned that, as is the case with most European UFC cards, Spike TV is considering airing the event on tape delay in primetime. The network will be airing UFC 89 from Birmingham, England, on tape delay next Saturday.

This news is very promising for MMA fans as not only will they potentially have the chance to see four of the best 205-pounders compete for free, but this card comes nudged between UFC 92 on December 27 (Mir vs. Nogueira, Evans vs. Griffin, Jackson vs. Silva), the Affliction/Golden Boy show (as of now scheduled for January 24, but who the heck knows these days) and UFC 94 (St-Pierre vs. Penn) on January 31. So, you know, finances will be a little tight.

Speaking of Spike TV, we're still waiting for another "Kimbo Slice is the 'He Hate Me' of MMA" press release because, well, we loved the first one so much.

phone call I had about an hour ago....

Evan: Hey Cate...
Cate: blah blah blah blah.....................................
Cate: So I'm watching that UFC thing you like...
Evan: You?!?! Why?!?!
Cate: Well I'm bored and I just happened to see it...
Evan: Still.....wow
Cate: So that black guy...Andy?....
Evan: You mean the guy on right now...241...the bald guy?
Cate: Yeah....why are you laughing?
Evan: His name's Anderson and he's from Brazil. He's not Black.
Cate: He doesn't look Hispanic....
Cate: why are you laughing again?
Evan: Well Brazil is a really obscure part of Mexico, its where they filmed Rocky 3 and the old star wars..not those crappy new ones .....
Cate: Do they normally fight so many times a night?
Evan: Yeah...these guys are tough.
Cate: hell yeah they are

And for the record my friend Cate is very smart...she's just dumb as a sack of peanuts about anything that doesn't have to do with accounting.

Yep...

WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko’s next fight is now expected to take place on Jan. 24 under the Affliction banner in a bout against former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski.

Ariel Helwani of MMA Rated reported the news earlier today, quoting Affliction Entertainment Vice President Tom Atencio as the source for the story.

A location and venue for the event has yet to be announced. It is also uncertain whether the event will air on pay-per-view or via another platform.

Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions will be involved with the event, however, Helwani is also reporting that due to an inability to secure a significant boxing fight, the card will be an MMA-only promotion.

Emelianenko won the then-vacant WAMMA heavyweight title after submitting former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia via rear naked choke just 36 seconds into their fight during Affliction’s first-ever event in July.

Arlovski was also victorious on the same card, knocking out former IFL standout Ben Rothwell at 1:13 of round 3. He returned last weekend during EliteXC’s “Heat” event that was televised on CBS and recorded another knockout over a former IFL heavyweight, finishing the now-defunct promotion’s first and last heavyweight champion, Roy Nelson.

Arlovski had been originally scheduled to fight Emelianenko this weekend in Las Vegas during Affliction’s ill-fated “Day of Reckoning” event but the match was scrapped due to a lingering hand injury that Fedor had been suffering from. Josh Barnett was moved into the main event in Fedor’s place but the entire card was eventually postponed.

MMARated.com has learned that WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko will face Andrei Arlovski at the upcoming Affliction show tentatively scheduled for January 24th in Anaheim, Calif.

Affliction Entertainment VP Tom Atencio confirmed the news with us earlier today.

Atencio also said that the promotion will officially announce the date, location and main fights on the card sometime next week and that it will be an MMA-only card but still co-promoted with Golden Boy Promotions.

"We sat down with them and couldn't come up with a main event boxing match that everyone wanted," Atenco said.

Originally, it was announced that the January show would be a mixed boxing/MMA event.

Affliction's second pay-per-view show entitled "Day of Reckoning" was supposed to occur tomorrow but was cancelled last month after reported poor ticket sales at the Thomas & Center in Las Vegas. Atencio did mention that January's show will also be called "Day of Reckoning" and will be "more stacked" than its original offering.

Last week, Arlovski defeated Roy Nelson at EliteXC: Stand Heat while Emelianenko last fought in July on the first-ever Affliction show making quick work of former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia.

You know how it goes with Fedor and Japanese cards...you never know for sure until about 2 or 3 weeks out.

On a side note....reading that quote and considering some other things....seems Fedor is a born again Christian.

Nothing wrong with that mind you... just something very new from him.

I love Andre but he is not going to beat Fedor. If he can keep it standing maybe but i'm sure Andre will get taken down and Sub'd.

Should we expect the classic Dana White line when it is over

"This fucking guy hasn't fought anybody"

Here is a few GSP quotes as per 411mania/mma

On his fight with BJ Penn at UFC 94 in January:

"I'm a different fighter than I used to be. And he is as well. This time, I want to take him out. I don't want to go to a decision. I want to finish him."

On a possible fight with Anderson Silva:

"A lot of people have been challenging me so far. I have a lot of friends at 185. To tell you the truth, I'm not afraid of challenging nobody at 185. I'm very confident in myself.

"I think I can do pretty well (against Silva). I think I'm a different fighter than all the guys who have fought him in the past. There's only one way to find out.

"It's a fight that everybody wants to see, including myself."

Not sure Fedor cares about fighting in the UFC.

Yeah

He doesn't care in a positive or negative way...he makes no decisions. Its all about what his manager thinks.
