The death of innocent people is an atrocity no matter what, but at least in WW2 there was some justification. The Japanese had already attacked the United States, killed innocent lives there, and would stop at nothing to win. They were fighting dirty, so the US fought dirty too.

War is an incredibly childish and stupid thing to begin with, and with that in mind, "they started it" is a perfectly justifiable excuse for using whatever means necessary to win against the Japanese.

There is no such excuse to justify going into Iraq, unless "we have our own sandbox, but their sandbox has lots of valuable hidden underneath it, so let's systematically invade and control that area. We'll start with the country who has a bat crazy dicator who hasn't done anything to us as an excuse!" works for you.
I don't personally agree with using nukes, but I can understand why other people feel otherwise.

I meant electorate. The risk that Saddam posed.
I missed the pre-invasion public referendum election.

lol the military sympathizers comparing Japan and Iraq
There were scores of innocents killed in both. It's a valid comparison, if all you're worried about is innocent people. You stated you didn't care about innocents in that situation.

Yeah. One country attacked America on American soil multiple times and had global military ambitions and capabilities. The other was a poor country with a depleted military that didn't have anything close to the ability to attack America.

    What a perfectly valid comparison!

I also stated the innocent Japanese were killed because it saved American lives. Getting Japan to surrender via an actual invasion of Japan woulda been incredibly difficult and costly without dropping those bombs. Innocent eople dying was inevitable, unlike the War in Iraq. If you really can't see the difference you're a lot dumber than I thought.

you must be crushed that non-hippies actually have the opinion of the military that I have
Not that you asked me, but it doesn't bother me at all. You've already proven your opinion is based on youtube clips and almost no exposure to actual service members. There are plenty of educated people that form opinions from a point of ignorance.

Almost as incredible as someone stupid enough to think Iraq had the 4th most powerful military in the world prior to the US invasion

Compared to its power at the height of the Iraq/Iran war or pre Desert Storm, I would characterize the Iraqi armed forces as depleted.

You implied they weren't depleted. Having strength in numbers doesn't mean they aren't depleted. China's military had strength in numbers during WWII but they were plenty depleted after being attacked by Japan.

    Yes.

Was innocent people dying absolutely necessary in both wars? Answer yes or no.
No to both. (Of course, innocent people die in every war. But I'll assume you meant, "Could we have decided to NOT use nukes" which is yes at the cost of more American lives, and you also meant, "Was it necessary to invade Iraq", which I believe is a big fat no.)

So you're saying the US had a way of getting Japan to surrender with minimal/no innocent lives lost. Elaborate.
