That's why I find all this funny. As if a coach who isn't even that good is supposed to give Deandre Jordan a brain, make Blake Griffin a fundamental PF and make CP3 not be a flopping quitter. The problem with the NBA coaching cycle is that it's heavily influenced by favoritism and connections, tbh..
If you're close with a GM, or a president, or a key player on the team, you'll get the job without qualifying from an actual coaching standpoint
The players deserve blame, too, tbh..a lot of front offices are afraid to hire Euro coaches or analytics guys because they fear the players won't respect them, which is a valid concern, unfortunately..

I still say as far as black coaches go Gentry > Rivers. Getting the 2010 Suns' roster within two games of the NBA finals was a remarkable coaching performance, much better than anything Rivers has done.

Front offices are now hiring analytics guys as GMs, as Houston, Memphis and Philly have done the past few years..I expect that within 5 years, a third of the teams in the NBA will have those types of guys running the show..whether you're a fan of analytics or not, you still have to appreciate the fact that these guys are actually intelligent, rather than relying on their connections that derive from winning the genetic lottery
I expect the coaching trend to also change as the NBA hires more competent GMs, too..
