I'm really interested to see how Malone does in Sacramento. Seems like he was what Carlisle was to Bird or Thibedeau to Rivers. LOL Golden State.

might as well have built with kyrie and griffin as the core instead of getting a known loser near the end of his prime

Spo and Karl are both better than Rivers. And neither one is necessarily that good.

I don't really disagree, tbh, I had Rivers at 10th before revising my list, tbh..I don't think any coaches after the top 6-7 are special..NBA teams need to hire college/European/analytics people for coaching, as I've been saying for years, tbh..hiring former players from the 80s and 90s generally leads to failure, tbh..

I also forgot about coach Bud..he's probably 7th on my list, just by learning from Pop and the Spurs for so long, tbh..

That's pretty much my thoughts on him too, tbh..... at worst he's top five with Pop, Thibs, Carlisle, and Vogel imho....
theres difference no real between Doc Rivers and Mike Brown...Doc is more of an Idaho Potato head and Mike Brown a Sweet Potato head...they're both ups

That's why I find all this funny. As if a coach who isn't even that good is supposed to give Deandre Jordan a brain, make Blake Griffin a fundamental PF and make CP3 not be a flopping quitter. All this fuss over a coach whose most popular philosophy is ubuntu. What kind of African, black coach bs is that? They don't need a father figure, they need a tactician with some balls. Thib, Pop, Bud, Adleman... Instead of wasting their time with this nonsense, they should have thrown millions at Bud.

lol top 3 coach in the league

I can't help but find all this fuss over a head coach to be silly.

"top three coach in the league"
They better get KG with Doc since Doc personified what a lame duck coach was prior to the KG trade

The problem with the NBA coaching cycle is that it's heavily influenced by favoritism and connections, tbh..

If you're close with a GM, or a president, or a key player on the team, you'll get the job without qualifying from an actual coaching standpoint..Vinny Del Negro has never had a system and he isn't even respected by his players, yet he keeps getting jobs, because he has friends around the league..

The players deserve blame, too, tbh..a lot of front offices are afraid to hire Euro coaches or analytics guys because they fear the players won't respect them, which is a valid concern, unfortunately..

The Ubuntu philosophy allows for mass subs utions and indiscriminate use of timeouts.

I still say as far as black coaches go Gentry > Rivers. Getting the 2010 Suns' roster within two games of the NBA finals was a remarkable coaching performance, much better than anything Rivers has done.

Same with the NBA front office executive cycle. Half the people in this thread would make better VPs of basketball ops than Lon Babby does, but he had a connection with Sarver so he got the job. It's an area totally ruled by nepotism.

I actually know someone who's been friends with Vinny Del Negro since they went to college together, and I remember him telling me how Vinny was when he got his first job in Chicago. He literally had no idea what he was gonna do

True, but at least that trend is beginning to fade, tbh..

Front offices are now hiring analytics guys as GMs, as Houston, Memphis and Philly have done the past few years..I expect that within 5 years, a third of the teams in the NBA will have those types of guys running the show..whether you're a fan of analytics or not, you still have to appreciate the fact that these guys are actually intelligent, rather than relying on their connections that derive from winning the genetic lottery..

I expect the coaching trend to also change as the NBA hires more competent GMs, too..
