I'd think that if the governor of the state and the mayor of the city offered me a deal, I shouldn't have to go check with the local officials. Isn't that the responsibility of the governor/mayor who made the offer?
There are binding agreements and non-binding agreements. Whatever offer was made was clearly non-binding. That’s it and that’s all.

believing Amazon spokespeople. Jesus Christ this lady is naïve. For the umpteeth ing time rmt, the local community DID NOT WANT THEM THERE. Do you understand the role of a city councilman or not? They are elected as the voice of their wards, so if he was inundated with calls to block the deal, met with locals to learn their opinion about the deal, and found a majority negative response, it's his duty to act in that interest. If he broke with the will of the people, we'll see him voted out in the next local election. In my experience, councilmen usually have a good read on the pulse of their cons uents, as many of them can hold office for a decade or more.

Since it was a non-binding agreement, that leads me to believe Cuomo didn't consult with the councilman who reps that ward. Probably said, "Come on down! They're gonna love you down there. Ah, don't worry about Van Bramer and Gianaris, they'll play ball."

Furthermore on the Amazon deal, people are acting like it was a done deal, and Boogeygirl jumped out of the shadows last week to protest it, when:

The day after Amazon's announcement, the Senator and Councilman who both rep the district protested it. Then they held over a month's worth of public hearings to explore the details and gauge public opinion. We can conclude from this sequence of events that the public didn't want Amazon there.

I think I'd rather believe an Amazon spokesperson about why Amazon pulled out than OCA's tweet.
Again, believing Amazon spokespeople. See ^^^^ the timeline I just posted. Over a month's worth of public hearings were held to discuss the details. Guess what you can do at a public hearing:

This hearing is open to the public, and we invite you to attend, however we will not be taking public testimony at this first hearing. We will have a separate hearing entirely devoted to hearing from the public at a later date, where your comments will be made part of the official public record.
    https://council.nyc.gov/amazon-hearings/

Looks like when they held those open floor hearings to gauge public feedback, it was majority negative.

a company sitting on $40 billion afraid to negotiate
My response was to Pavlov - so isn't it Cuomo's (NY side) that dropped the ball? Not that Amazon didn't want to/afraid to negotiate?

I’d say both. Cuomo/de Blasio were re ed for not knowing the political climate of the area and how the locals would react, but it’s very clear that Amazon had no interest in negotiating and were only going to build HQ2 in a city where the public officials would bend over for whatever Amazon wanted.

Thank you for the timeline. Cuomo and Blasio should have included the state senators/representatives/local councilman/etc. in the original offer. Weren't they taking various polls during this timeline showing that majority favored Amazon coming? Sounds like Cuomo/Blasio were tone deaf to locals or going by polls or ignoring public hearings (which I think are hard to judge - people opposing are always VERY vocal compared to those who are in favor who probably don't attend but poll).

Statewide polls only. 56% in favor, but obviously, people who don't live in the district would be more for it since it's win/win. Yes, vocal people should win out. If supporters couldn't get off their asses and go to city hall to counter the arguments of opponents, then that's their problem.

imagine Chris posting another Hannity article and thinking “THIS is the one that’ll get em shook!” as if anyone gives a what Sean Hannity thinks.
I don't do the troll thing. Would it help if I posted what AOC said from someone else? (sorry if you got triggered tbh)
