Since Kobe used #8 and than the #24, when the time comes to retire his number, what number will the Lakers retire?

Venti Quattro

I bet they will hang 24 and 8 will be unofficially retired.

I bet they will hang 24 and 8 will be unofficially retired.

The Lakers had the 3-peat with him wearing the #8 plus, there were various legendary performances (the 9 +40 games streak of 2003, the 81 points game, the +45 points streak, etc).

He changed to #24 in 2006, from there the Lakers made the finals 3 times, with back to back championships, an MVP, two finals MVP's. Also with some great scoring games.

His role in the last two Lakers championships was bigger, it probably makes more sense to retire the #24.

4th period FG% in career playoff games is... 36%!

link?

you know how hard that would be to find, you would have to look up the play by play of every 4th quarter of kobes 208 playoff games
and btw, they dont have play by play until 2004 i think

so thats a lie, and you dont have a link

38 year old MJ on Wizard = 32 year old (still in prime) Kobe on Lakers
It's quite shocking

Everyone would fall short to MJ comparisons though. Someone more along the lines of Kobe - Dominque Wilkins.

Wilkins played in a much tougher defensive era and yet put up just as good if not superior numbers than Kobe

Except your initial post was a statistical comparison, not merely a rings argument. And Jordan up to the age of 24 put up 35/6/7 playoff numbers to Kobe's 22/5/4 playoff numbers up to that age of 24.

Shaq doesn't come into play for comparing playoffs Kobe in 2008-2010 to playoffs Jordan at a more similar age from 1991-93. You compared playoff statistics of Kobe in his prime to playoff stats of Jordan when he was in his mid-30s, not in Jordan's true prime. It's a simple question you didn't seem to want to answer. I'll ask it again and wait for a direct answer to the question.

Why not compare 2008-10 Kobe to 1991-93 Jordan? Shaq doesn't enter the discussion for that comparison.

Perception can often be ruled by emotion. I don't know what their clutch stats are this season. But 82games have clutch statistics you can go to and find out how clutch Fisher is compared to Kobe. Now, it's not just shots in the last 24 seconds. I don't know where to find those. But these are the clutch shooting percentage stats of each from the previous 3 seasons according to 82games, final 5 minutes of the 4th quarter plus overtime, game within 5 points either way:

Kobe
2010-11: .402 FG%, .351 3P%, 87% FT
2009-10: .444 FG%, .357 3P%, 80% FT
2008-09: .457 FG%, .400 3P%, 92% FT

Fisher
2010-11: .313 FG%, .125 3P%, 66% FT
2009-10: .318 FG%, .286 3P%, 75% FT
2008-09: .250 FG%, .286 3P%, 78% FT

http://www.82games.com/0910/CSORT11.HTM
http://www.82games.com/0809/CSORT11.HTM

Now, Fisher might have a better percentage in the final 24 seconds because he has taken and made big shots, generally wide open jumpers. It's just weird how feelings about Kobe will warp the perception of reality. So people will believe what they want to believe.

Shaq doesn't enter the discussion for that comparison.

so when it's convenient you parse out titles and stats? Lkr fans balance comes in that he compares stats relative to titles minus Shaq...asian please gtfoh...Kobe was almost double the same amount of time put in at the same age...because at 28 MJ had 7 yrs while at 28 Kobe had 12 yrs almost double...you not trying to compare primes because Kobe's came during the Shaq yrs and ironically it's the same reason his stats are lower than MJ's prior to MJ winning titles why because of the Shaq factor...listen Jammy you try but when you step to my true Laker brothers with that BS - a nigga like Kool will shit all over you...now go run and tell Kori that :lmao

Shaq has nothing to do with 2008-10 Kobe and 1991-93 Jordan. I asked a simple question. It wasn't answered. Why not compare prime Kobe to prime Jordan? Why only compare prime Kobe to mid-30s Jordan? Simple question. Not answered. Shaq has nothing to do with the question.

Fact is if you compare 2008-10 Kobe to 1991-93 Jordan, it would be very clear that Kobe is not Jordan's peer. Now Kobe might be closer to Jordan than anyone else since Jordan. But that doesn't mean they're on the same level. Ignoring 1991-93 Jordan manipulates the facts.

A prime Kobe is 22-26 the Shaq yrs so you can't make the comparison without Shaq. Kobe at 28 is past prime...WHY? Because he already had almost 14 yrs in at 28...12 to be exact while MJ only had 8 yrs in at 28..so you trying to make 28 Kobes prime is silly as fuck...dude listen i may be a hardcore nigga but I'm smarter than you.:lol

Except your initial post was a statistical comparison, not merely a rings argument. And Jordan up to the age of 24 put up 35/6/7 playoff numbers to Kobe's 22/5/4 playoff numbers up to that age of 24.
MJ was LeHype at age 24 and didn't win jack until Magic and Bird were past their primes. He didn't win until the league was watered down with expansion: fact. Kobe at 24 had to defer to Shaq (PJ's orders to appease jealous/imature Shaq). It worked. To the tune of a 3peat.

Kobe wasn't "the man" when he came to the Lakers. MJ was. Kobe in 2008-2010 had damn near the same amount of mileage as "mid-30s" MJ due to the fact he had been making playoff runs every year since he was 17 (sans the year they tanked to get Bynum).

Why not compare 2008-10 Kobe to 1991-93 Jordan? Shaq doesn't enter the discussion for that comparison.
Where was MJ's true competition in 1991-1993? Magic retired in 1991 (HIV). Ewing's Knicks were on the decline. Zeke's Pistons had a fork in them. Even in the Finals, the teams he faced from 1991-1993 didn't play defense like 2008 Boston, 2009 Magic, or 2010 Boston teams. You think Kobe wouldn't have busted any 1991 Laker SG's ass? How about Clyde Drexler in 1992? What about Majerle in 1993? Kobe would have averaged 45 ppg against any of those teams. Why? Because MJ never faced a zone, or the kind of defenses Kobe faced from 2008-2010. Kobe's competition at SG and the defenses he faced were better - yet he still have eerily comparable numbers to MJ. They are peers. Neal with it. :downspin:

LkrFan
03-07-2012, 07:37 PM
MJ's notable competition during his reign:
Drexler
Reggie
Majerle
Dumars
Mitch Richmond
Dominique Wilkins

Kobe's notable competition during his reign:
D-Whistle
LeHype
AI
Vince Carter
Ray Allen
Joe Johnson
Rip Hamilton
Manu Ginobli
Kevin Durant
Westbrook
Monta Ellis

Kobe played against more players that were comparable to him or in some case - Vince Carter before the injuries - was as good or better than him athletically. He has sustained superiority over them all. Even despite being in his MF'n 16th year, he's perched on the top of the league in scoring (http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/scoring-per-game/sort/avgPoints/year/2012/seasontype/2), dropping calculated shit bombs on his competition.

I wonder where MJ was ranked in what he is known for - scoring - in his 16th year? They are peersPERIOD.

Jordan was Jordan. He was a complete all-around player, along with being a cold-blooded, clutch MF'er.

Kobe 17th all time on PER, James is 2nd [near Jordanesque] when all is said and done James will have numerous championships and be rated a far greater player than the great gunner that is one Kobe Bryant who ABSOLUTLEY proved he cannot win without great big men. AT least James went to a finals without great talent besides him while Kobe until he had the best front line in the game failed terribly.

Lakers are still a contender, by default, due to the rest of the West..

If Kobe realized that he's no longer a consistent go-to guy, and deferred to Bynum and Gasol more often, they would still be scary IMO..it would help if Goudelock received more minutes and LA added another bench player, too..

This.

totally agree ...... the problem isn't the big 3. Bryant, Gasol and Bynum are cool. The problem will always remain players 4-12 ...... that's what's going to continue to kill them.

Even if they trade for Howard, they'll still have that bench ........

Agree.

Kobe needs to tale two less shots.

Shots that go to Bynum/Gasol, is by stats, 2.5 more points for the Lakers overall. Kobe will miss those shots anyway. So why not put them to work?

Kobe fanboys putting the blame on their lack of depth. :lol

Best frontcourt+an elite SG is a recipe for success. The bench isnt very good but when you have that you really only need the rest of the guys to play some D and hit some open shots. Having someone else that can create their own shot would be a luxury. Kobes unwillingness to distribute the shots is the biggest problem with that team not the bench.
