He changed to #24 in 2006, from there the Lakers made the finals 3 times, with back to back championships, an MVP, two finals MVP's. Also with some great scoring games.

His role in the last two Lakers championships was bigger, it probably makes more sense to retire the #24.

Best frontcourt+an elite SG is a recipe for success. The bench isnt very good but when you have that you really only need the rest of the guys to play some D and hit some open shots.
