I don't think it's doing RT for rendering, but I do think it might be doing accelerated ray casting for certain things like AO, 3D sound and maybe even shadows.

Ubisoft fucking sucks at optimization. Look how poor AC Unity ran this gen even on higher end PCs and that game didn't look like anything special. Hell AC Odyssey can't do 4k60 maxed out on a $1200 RTX 2080 Ti, not even close, and that's a nearly two year old game on a gpu about 20% faster than what is going to be in XBox Series X.

Allow me to play devil's advocate. When you saw the XBox Series X reveal you knew that thing was built to dissipate heat with that big ass fan pushing air up and out the top of the case. 8-10 years ago when gaming PCs consumed way more power than they do now, that's how top of the line gaming PC cases were designed. I was hoping for a larger form factor or maybe even a design similar to the Series X (even though that one's ugly too, though not as ugly as PS5). This isn't like PS4 where they were using a low end mobile processor cpus and a lower midrange gpu where you weren't going to be generating a ton of heat. This system has a full fat high-end gaming PC cpu and a borderline upper midrange - high end gpu in it, and it's clocked to a pretty high clockspeed. This system is going to consume a lot of power, generate a lot of heat, and you're probably going to have loud fans and possibly pretty bad failure rates trying to cool everything. Unless AMD's Navi 2 is just a mindblowing leap in performance per watt vs Navi 1, and they're both on 7nm lithography so it's not like this would be automatic, I wonder how they're going to cool that system. The aesthetics push me even farther to waiting for a PS5 Slim, because no one wants to deal with RROD or even YLOD levels of system failures.

Ah man, my original Persona 4 Golden box. That thing is only good for JRPG since most western games used the motion controls, touchpads, camera, etc. Still, those were pretty sweet three years ago when they only cost $30. But PS5 is honestly too small IMO, that thing is going to need a lot of cooling.

Control officially announced for PS5 / Series X. This is definitely a game I wouldn't want to play on current gen consoles because it can't really hold a steady 30 fps. PS5 and Series X have to horsepower to definitely run it at 60 fps though.

Control got 2019 Game of the Year from a few different publications and it's the exact kind of game that will really show off the power of the PS5 and XBox Series X with the most impressive raytracing of any game yet released. It's also a game the current gen base consoles are completely incapable of running at a reasonable level. That would be awesome to have a legit first rate launch title actually built to use the gpu to its fullest.
