I just stopped watching these kind of things unless they're from PlayStation. Otherwise I'll just check the trailers that look interesting after. Holy fuck, Yakuza Ishin is getting English localization and will be coming out in the West in February 2023. Game is literally the reason I started learning Japanese since I figured it would never get localized since Americans don't know who the fuck Ryoma Sakamoto is (he's a George Washington level historical figure in Japan). You play as Sakamoto, but using Kiryu's likeness. The Yakuza fanbase has been dying for this localization ever since the game came out in 2014 and it's a pretty critically acclaimed game in Japan.

Only thing really interesting I saw outside of FFXVI and Spiderman 2, both of which I'm already sold on, was the MGS3 remake, which they showed no gameplay for so it's probably years off. Shin Megami Tensei games are like Persona minus the HS life sim stuff and with way harder and better combat. I do think SMT and Persona are the two series with the best turn based combat of any JRPG series, not even close. If you haven't played Dragon Quest, it's the original JRPG series and the one so big they had to move release dates from Friday to Saturday in Japan to keep kids from skipping school to wait in line to buy the game on Day 1. The art style in Dragon Quest is from Akira Toriyama of Dragonball fame. Yakuza Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon Ishin are basically Dragon Quest games set in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon universe. Absolutely incredible clones of the games but with a modern Japanese gangster vibe instead of the old school knights and maidens vibe of the Dragon Quest games.

Gotta warn your kids will kill the PS5 controller if they're rough with it, as they're super prone to stick drift. Though XBox and Switch use the same crap stick mechanism so they're every bit as prone to stick drift too. Fucking bullshit to pay $70 for a controller and it doesn't even have hall effect sticks (that can never develop drift) like the Dreamcast did stock 25 years ago.

As for the persona comparison, I just looked it up as I haven't played it in ages and that actually sounds pretty cool. I felt like the combat was more of an afterthought when I last played persona (wanna say it was pt 3 - you were in a school and shit, it never occurred to me that it's probably inspired by or inspired death note lol). I got a long ways through Elden Ring but then got an itch to play skyrim with some hardcore difficulty mods and so I'm restarting elden ring, gonna try to "blind" speedrun since technically it's my 2nd time through or at least most of the way through (i think). Then I'm gonna spring for the PS5 and FF7 remakes and go from there. My xbox also is pretty much shot and makes a loud noise every now and then lol, the framerate drops randomly on games it never did before, etc. time for the pasture, literally gonna destroy it office style in the backyard after a drink or two because why not/I'm a sociopath who enjoys fucking with the neighbors. My kids will enjoy the show, I'm sure.

Also if you buy a Persona game I'd highly recommend Persona 5 Royal when the PS5 version drops to $30. Kind of surprised it isn't there right now since Steam has it for $30 currently. Persona 5 Royal for PS4 plays well on PS5 too but runs 30 fps instead of the PS5 version that runs at 60 fps on PS5. Also don't buy regular Persona 5 as Persona 5 Royal is a far superior game and you can't upgrade base Persona 5 to Persona 5 Royal.

There is no way the Pro costs $310 more to manufacture than base PS5. The pricepoint and the nickel and diming with the drive and the stand feel like retribution on us for not buying Concord, a game no one asked for. Game Pass meh, that shit is dead man walking. It has no chance when they're already enshittifying it in what is supposed to be the growth phase for the service. Can't start making your service trash until everyone has already bought into it like Netflix or Google Search. Hard to compare, so not sure. Developers can clock up the CPU, and there's a 2TB PCIe 4 SSD. The AI side is entirely custom. I can't really comment more, but just trust me it's a pretty beasty box.

Jim Ryan really screwed the brand with his push for live service when Playstation was so amazing last gen with all the great first party single player games. I can't imagine TLOU Part III is close without it even having been announced, all we saw of Wolverine is one cutscene, and there is literally nothing else I have heard anything about other than an unnamed original game from Bluepoint supposedly in the works. Depends if it's just going to be bunch of skins and a couple of songs or is it actually going to be some kind of continuation of the story. I gotta see more of it I guess. Think I have seen other NieR Automata crossovers that were just that, skins and cosmetic shit, though I can't recall the game(s) right off hand. NieR Automata's own DLC was pretty awful too, a bad unrelated story section, some skins from Nier Replicant/Gestalt and Drakengard, and then a boss fight against the Square Enix CEO and president. :lol
