I'm pretty happy about the free upgrade, it's wasn't a given. Too bad they didn't do it for Spiderman, ended up selling my PS4 copy and rebuying on PS5 to get the 60 fps + RT mode.

Never played it because I was waiting to play it on PS5. I pretty much played nothing from 2020 on PS4 other than Persona 5 Royal because I wanted to wait for 60 fps patches on PS5. Probably will break down and play TLOU II on PS4 though once PS4 gets hacked since it doesn't look like we're getting a 60 fps patch for it.

Man retail PS5 def isn't made to lay horizontally. Shit is wobbly as hell horizontal. I was going to put mine horizontal but vertical is pretty much the only way it feels solid.

I only have 14 inches of clearance in my set up. This is what I have been dreading.
Consoles look best vertically as far as I’m concerned but I don’t think I have the space this time.
Might want to pick up one of those coolers I keep seeing too.

Dude those external coolers they sell for systems are crap and always make the systems run hotter. Always hotter. I saw a review of one for PS5 and it made the system run hotter too. No one should ever use those.

Damn Astro's Playroom is pretty cool, nostalgic AF with all the Playstation systems and accessories you're looking for. Is the VR game of similar or better quality? If the VR set is something sane like $300 I might be an early adopter for it, especially if I can get Half Life Alyx on it. If it's going to be $500 though no thanks.

LOL most of what I expect to play in 2021 is PS4 games with 60 fps patches like Ghost of Tsushima, Dragon Quest XI S, and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Just got Dragon Quest for $28 from Amazon and FFVIIR for $30 from Walmart (FFVIIR gets a free PS5 upgrade in June).
Though I did pay full price for Miles Morales Ultimate so will soon finally get apalisoc_9 off my ass about not playing Spiderman yet (but not until after Ghost of Tsushima). I'll probably pay full price for Ratchet & Clank Rift too. Fully do not expect Horizon Forbidden West this year, nor Elden Ring, nor Dying Light 2. Might buy Cyberpunk when I see it for $20 just to play the PS5 upgrade at the end of the year. Will probably wait out Demon's Souls until it's cheap since I already played it on PS3. Though prob won't be cheap until 2022.

Astro's Playroom is pretty awesome for a 6 hour game, pretty cool history of Playstation, though they left out the part when Nintendo double-crossed them when they were making the Playstation as a disc add-on to the SNES. LOL Nintendo creating their biggest competition because they wanted to sell them out and go with Phillips instead at the last minute. :lol I think it would have been a great buy at $20, or $10 on sale, if it wasn't a pack-in game.
Can't say the DualSense feels like anything all that groundbreaking. I think the Switch joycons do haptics better, maybe since you have each hand wrapped around a joycon when you have them split. But so few games on Switch use HD Rumble.
System is whisper quiet, at least playing Astro's Playroom and Miles Morales. Way quieter than my PC. Miles Morales looks pretty fucking impressive at 60 fps with RT on. Looks much better than what my 1660 Super can render. Would be really interested to see how much you could turn up the graphics dials and still get 60 fps on RDR2 on this system.
I plan on buying a 4K TV when I secure a PS5. I’m still rocking my lowly 1080p LG TV from like 5 years ago. Lol
I have also decided to hold off on P5 Strikers for now. I want to play all my backlogs on the new TV with the PS5.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't run 1080p60 on PS4. Though at least based on the PC version of the game, it'll look a lot better rendered at 4k because the anti-aliasing is terrible on P5S. Don't sleep on LG TVs man, they're the best gaming TVs for the money on the low end (high-end too) since they have lower latency than most other brands in general.

Best Buy you might have a reasonable shot with since their add to cart button makes everyone wait some random time (everyone the same though) and then you click the button to place the order. So it can't be spammed as easily by bots as Target and Walmart are. Much better chance you're at least competing with other humans when trying to order off Best Buy.

One thing to note is I got mine in the last drop they did on that date, so maybe they just do a much bigger drop to end things. The four drops before then I lost the system in checkout each time. So as frustrating as it is, just keep going with it until their drops are over.

Shit I got one in the cart every single time a few weeks ago but couldn't get through checkout until the last drop. It looks like the last drop today ended up being a big one. I have never seen the add to cart button on the product webpage but it was there a whole two minutes on this last drop.

I see them locally in the $700 to $800 range on OfferUp around San Antonio. Ebay around $900 last I checked a few weeks ago. I wouldn't touch a scalped system with a ten foot pole since you're fucked if you need to use warranty service then.

Oh well, unless you're dying to play Demon's Souls there isn't anything worth playing you can't play on PS4 or PC other than Astro's Playroom. Only games I have bought for this system are all PS4 games (namely, Miles Morales / Dragon Quest XI S / Yakuza Like a Dragon / Final Fantasy VII Remake).

There is no way they want these to be hard to get, they're losing their asses on the hardware and make their money off games and subscription services. They take a 30% cut on digital game sales and around a 10-15% cut on physical and the subscription services like PS Plus and PS Now are almost pure profit. But when scalpers have these systems they're obviously not buying games and if someone pays $800 or $900 for the system instead of $540 they're going to be buying less games most likely. And same for subscription. This is the exact opposite of what Sony wants with this launch. They want as many gamers to have these so can collect from those revenue streams that make the console space so lucrative for Sony.

This console release period is like a perfect storm of things making them hard to get:
1. Gaming demand is through the roof because COVID is keeping people inside
2. They're being sold online only to keep from having big lines at stores, so scalpers can use bots to snatch them up and deny them to regular buyers.
3. Both the PS5 and XBox Series X are ridiculously good hardware for $500 and both Sony and Microsoft are selling them at a significant loss.
4. There is a shortage on silicon manufacturing thanks to COVID
5. There is an enormous demand for production at TSMC aside from the consoles, since AMD also has a new line of PC cpus and gpus that are hugely in demand. Plus demand at TSMC for Smartphone chips is really high too.
Just a perfect storm of sky high demand and lowered supply right now combined with middlemen leeches getting in the way. It's twice as bad if you're trying to build a gaming PC now since cryptocurrency is through the roof so China is buying a ton of PC gpus to mine ethereum with since their electricity costs are so low.

DualSense definitely way better on battery life than the Dualshock 4. I have been playing Ghost of Tsushima pretty much all day today and controller is still at 2/3 bars. I'd have had to charge DS4 for sure by now.

Tuesday update: The Target PS5 restock is this week, according to information sent to TechRadar by multiple Target employees who sent us tips on Twitter. The restock will likely launch in the morning as an online-exclusive order before Target stores open, and offer the option for in-store pickup.

TechRadar can confirm that Target employees have been preparing for a PS5 restock for this week, and it could happen as soon as tomorrow. An Xbox Series X restock is also being prepped for the same online-only ordering process, employees tell us.

Because the the three Target employees who talked to us and the customers who sent us kiosk photos are from different parts of the US, there's a good chance this is a nationwide restock – whenever it happens.

TechRadar went to visit the Herald Square store in Manhattan, and employees there said they don't often carry the PlayStation 5. So it may be available on a store-by-store basis. The next closest Target with likely inventory was their larger Harlem store, which didn't return our phone calls. The first thing their automated message machine insists is they they don't give out PS5 and Xbox restock information.
Last time there was a major Target PS5 restock, it happened at 8am EST, so it's best to be prepared to wake up early, even if you're on the West Coast. However, there are no guarantees that Target will launch orders a 8AM EST on Monday. It could be earlier (Target has done that before), it could be later, or it could be as later this week.

Target PS5 restock is expected anywhere from now to Thursday. Here's how you'll be the first to know.
Tuesday update: The Target PS5 restock is this week, according to information sent to TechRadar by multiple Target employees who sent us tips on Twitter. The restock will likely launch in the morning as an online-exclusive order before Target stores open, and offer the option for in-store pickup.
We uploaded more photos of Target PS5 and Xbox restock being readied at stores around the US, both in the front (kiosks) and in the back (boxes in inventory). Be sure to follow our console restock Twitter tracker to get instant PS5 and Xbox stock alerts.
TechRadar can confirm that Target employees have been preparing for a PS5 restock for this week, and it could happen as soon as tomorrow. An Xbox Series X restock is also being prepped for the same online-only ordering process, employees tell us.

"We have roughly 8 Xbox consoles and 22 PS5 consoles," we were told in a direct message on Twitter by a Target employee who wishes to remain anonymous. Across three Target stores, employees told us that there are many more PS5 Disc Editions and very few to no PS5 Digital Editions for the impending Target restock.

Important: The Target employees stressed to not show up at stores to order either console. These are online-only orders with an in-store pickup option. We're hearing that the PS5 restock is "likely" be as soon as Monday morning from our sources. That leaves open the possibility it could be later in the week. We'll let you know as soon as it happens via Twitter.
Two things to keep in mind: It could be this morning, and we'll be awake to sound the alarm via Twitter as soon as orders go live. Or it could be another day this week. Target loves to surprise us with early morning consoles drops, but employees aren't always aware of when they happen. They just know when inventory peaks.
Notable streamer Cameron Ritz, or Killercam1020 on Twitch, suggests that it could be as late as Thursday. "One of the people who I’ve talked to about Target said that they typically go live 1.5 weeks after stores start seeing inventory," Ritz divulged. "I believe that was Monday this past week when they started getting inventory. Unless there’s some kinda delay my guess is Thursday."

Here's another tell that consoles are coming soon: Target customers nationwide found PS5 inventory show up in kiosks on Sunday night ahead of the expected sale. Twitch streamer MyGuyMcFly snapped and sent a photo to TechRadar, seen below, showing 18 PS5 consoles in stock at a local Target in Minnesota, suggesting they have at least some inventory.

Getting the order placed is only the first form of the boss fight though, you haven't beaten him until you caught the FedEx/UPS/Amazon guy when he parks in front of your house so he is forced to give you the package instead of walking to the back of the truck, seeing it's a PS5, and then driving off claiming could not deliver.

Do they not come in standard brown boxes? I have never bought something that didn’t come in a nondescript brown box. I guess it makes sense when it’s delivered to houses. Up here, you better make that shit indistinguishable because if you’re not home you’re counting on the post office not to “lose” your item. Lol
The other option is an access point which most of the time is the nearest supermarket when Post office is closed.

Unreal 5 should also officially make a release at some point, that'll get more stuff going. The stuff I'm working on right now is 2-3 years down the line, but it's beastly stuff. Really can't say much more, there should be an announcement at some point this year, I think.

Then comes the holidays, which always brings plenty of goodies.
Unreal 5 should also officially make a release at some point, that'll get more stuff going. The stuff I'm working on right now is 2-3 years down the line, but it's beastly stuff. Really can't say much more, there should be an announcement at some point this year, I think.
Ratchet & Clank looks amazing and Kena looks to be a really cool Zelda clone, but most of the rest of that looks pretty meh. Kind of interested in Stray from Annapurna though, all the lighting looks crazy good in the preview I saw.

I'm surprised PS Direct doesn't do only digital editions. I know they're probably losing an extra $90 per PS5 upfront selling the digital but the long term earnings potential is so much better when they have you paying full price on every new game off PSN. And especially when they can take 30 cents on the dollar in game sales on PSN.

I see a lot of potential issues with the digital version. Requires online all the time basically and you legit have to wait until they put the games on their servers so you're going to miss out when from time to time stores get the game a week or days early.

Some people get the out of stock message 20-30 seconds or even a minute before others do. That's why you're fast tracked.
I pretty much came to the conclusion that if you're not put within 25-30 minutes from the get go, you're not getting lucky. When I was actually able to get inside the store I was put 20 minutes from the second the queue opened.
But still it's worth waiting at least 10 minutes in the more than an hour phase before calling it quits. Sometimes it goes from +hour to 50-40 etc. If you get stuck in an hour for more than 10 minutes than bail.

What are you looking to play? I wanted PS5 since I basically held out on playing any Playstation exclusive last year other than Persona 5 Royal since I wanted to wait to play them at 60 fps. But if you have already played GOT, TLOU Part II, FFVIIR, Yakuza Like a Dragon, Spiderman, Cyberpunk, etc I can't see spending $250 extra just to have it right now unless you really want to play Demon's Souls. There is still nothing good coming out until June when Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is scheduled. Guess Horizon must really be coming out this year though since PS is giving away Horizon Zero Dawn free next month though.

Ebay you can get them shipped for $750 to $800. I saw a lot of the disc editions sell in that range today from sellers with good feedback scores.

that's disappointing, as the graphics in FF7R are fucking laughable for a PS4 triple A title in 2020, especially in comparison to games like LoU2 or Ghosts of Tsushima. but a bump to 60fps might make it worth it. ever since i bought a gaming PC it's hard on my eyes playing 30fps games on console :lol

It's not all PS4 games. Basically a PS4 game's framerate benefits on PS5 over PS4 / PS4 Pro if either there is an explicit PS5 patch or there were unlocked framerate modes on PS4 Pro. So for instance God of War has an explicit PS5 patch to run 4k60, Rise of the Tomb Raider runs a locked 1080p60 since it had a 1080p unlocked framerate mode on PS4 Pro, while The Last of Us Part 2 only runs 1440p30 since there was no unlocked framerate mode and no 60 fps mode on PS4/PS4 Pro and there is no PS5 patch. If you want to look for particular games, this site will tell you:

I have already found an error though: they say Dragon Quest XI S runs 60 fps on base PS4 when it only runs 30 fps there. The 60 fps mode was reserved for PS4 Pro, and by extension PS5 since PS5 plays games in PS4 Pro mode if available.
One of the biggest night and day differences on PS5 vs PS4 is supposed to Sekiro. That it's rock solid 60 fps on PS5 while being an unstable 30 fps on base PS4 and a variable framerate mess on PS4 Pro with the unlocked framerate. The biggest omission is Bloodborne, which will be forever 1080p30 thanks to Sony basically gutting Japan Studios.

Does StockX give any kind of refunds if you get a lemon? If not I'd just look for a PS5 disc system in the ~$750 range off ebay since ebay always rules in favor of the buyer in a dispute.

I posted links pages back that directly add the PS5 to your shopping cart when available. You'll never get a PS5 on Walmart's product page by refreshing it until the add to cart button shows because everyone knows to use the direct add to cart links. I posted how to use them probably ten pages back.

Walmart seems to restock every two weeks or so, so you probably won't get an opportunity until then. They also announce their drops beforehand. I didn't know about the first drop at 3:00PM EST yesterday but one of the trackers I set an alarm for alterted me it was in stock at 3PM EST yesterday. By the time I got there it was too late for the 3:00 drop but they do more drops every ten minutes. Eg they did a 3:10 drop, a 3:20 drop, a 3:30 drop, and a 3:40 drop.
If you went to the product page before 3:00PM EST it would have a message saying will be available at 3:00PM EST. So at 2:59PM EST start loading and reloading that direct add to cart link until you get it in your cart or say it reaches 3:02PM and you haven't gotten one in cart. If you get it in cart complete the transaction ASAP. Usually you'll be too slow and will have been sold (happened when I got it in the cart at 3:10, 3:20, and 3:30). But maybe you get lucky.
If you miss the 3:00EST drop the product page then says it'll be available again at 3:10EST, so you do the same shit again. Eg start refreshing the direct add to cart page I linked at 3:09 until you get it in cart and then try to get checked out ASAP. And just keep doing this until you either get one or the product page says out of stock and there are no more times it'll be available again.

Good luck if you try, it's a real bitch trying to land one of these. If you want Miles Morales and Demon's Souls though I'd jump on that Gamestop bundle, those will be way easier to get when they become available since all the extras they add in will eat up most of any PS5 scalper's profit (these systems don't sell for $1000+ anymore like they did before Christmas). Even if you don't normally buy PS Plus (I'm pretty sure it's part of the Gamestop bundle) it's a pretty badass deal right now with all the included PS4 games plus Control PS5 edition.

It'll take you to your shopping cart I think. Or there will be a go to cart link. Obviously you're not going to be able to use it to get a system in your cart right now before any of the systems have been released for sale. You'll see that out of stock message every time you refresh until they come into stock. And you need to refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh starting a minute or so before the scheduled drop.

Obviously you're not going to be able to use it to get a system in your cart right now before any of the systems have been released for sale. You'll see that out of stock message every time you refresh until they come into stock. And you need to refresh, refresh, refresh, refresh starting a minute or so before the scheduled drop.

The game probably has moved a lot of consoles already. More than 6 million PS5 had been sold as of the beginning of the month. About on par with, maybe a little more than PS4 sales in the same window. It's just the demand is ridiculous for PS5. Also, Demon's Souls is a big fish in a small pond right now. Not sure it would be doing better if it was say a fall 2021 game competing with Dying Light 2, Horizon Forbidden West, Resident Evil Village, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, etc. Right now anyone buying a PS5 is either getting Miles Morales or Demon's Souls, and a lot of people are probably getting both. Also the PS Plus attach rate is huge right now. Can't imagine Sony is going to be giving away half their PS4 greatest hits collection on PS Plus say a year from now like they are right now, so that PS Plus attach rate is going to plummet.

You can get them brand new in the ~$800 range on ebay so no way he's getting more than $700 for the untested personally refurbished ones he's selling. I'd still take that over paying a scalper $650 and you don't get a warranty on a piece of hardware you're being an early adopter for. You should be able to sell the DualSense unopened for around $50 on ebay and even if one of the games is crap, like NBA 2k21, you'll still be able to sell it online for $45 or so.

Bundle was priced at 760 dollars but shipping, taxes, etc it ran me 829 dollars in total to be exact. Ouch, sucks on Avengers. Pretty shitty of Gamestop to bundle that garbage in. Miles Morales looks fucking beautiful on PS5, really impressed by the original Spiderman PS5 patch too. Both Spiderman's default to 30 fps quality mode though, gotta go in and change them to 60 fps + RT mode manually.
What are you planning on playing when the system gets in? I'm currently a few hours into Spiderman, pretty awesome game that I'm glad I waited for the PS5 version for. Not sure whether I'll play Yakuza 5, Persona 5 Strikers, or Dragon Quest XI S after. Kind of leaning Dragon Quest. Almost bought Yakuza Like a Dragon but then thought I still want to play 5 & 6 first so maybe Like a Dragon will be cheap by the time I get around to wanting to play it. I doubt I'll buy Nier Replicant since like Demon's Souls, I played the shit out of it on PS3 and will wait until both are kind of cheap to buy them. I do think Replicant has an even better story than Automata though, and with much better characters. I wouldn't hold my breath on getting one with the way Microsoft is projecting cost per transistor savings on 3nm to be minimal vs what they are on the current 7nm lithography and PS5 / XBox Series use pretty similar SOCs. There will be a PS5 Slim on 3nm because it'll save Sony money on cooling and the power supply and enable them to put it in a smaller case, but if they're not going to get the cost per transistor savings they got shrinking 28nm to 16nm last gen, which enabled PS4 Pro at the original base PS4 price, don't expect a stronger PS5 unless they release one that's going to cost significantly more. Maybe they see the demand would be there for say an $800 PS5 Pro and make one capable of doing native 4k or capable of doing 120 fps in more games, but I'm not sure I'd expect to see such a system for $500. Unless Microsoft is just lying. Maybe they are.

Ratchet & Clank just got a patch for 4k60 on PS5. Went live a couple of hours ago I think.
Got it to work by reformatting external into exfat instead of fat32 which its stupposed to recognize and play anyways. Horrible player.
I'll keep the PS3 as the media player of choice. Now time to migrate my saves and stuff from PS4 to PS5 and call it a day. I feel tired as shit from waking up early. Tomorrow...the fapping.

No, that would have been like 3 gigs. I also chose to transfer GOW, Ghost of Tsushima, Yakuza 0, Spider-Man downloads along with it. Overall 160gbs. It was 3 hours but stabilized to around 90 minutes.

Wait you transferred the games instead of just reinstalling them? Dude, don't transfer Spiderman from your PS4 if you got Miles Morales Ultimate. The PS5 version of Spiderman Remastered is different from the PS4 one. To download the PS5 version of Spiderman Remastered you have to install Miles Morales first, then go into your game library, find Spiderman Remastered (it'll be there when you install Miles Morales Ultimate), and choose Download from there. It's retarded, one thing XBox does way better is the Smart Delivery.

Damn, Foxconn says to expect chip shortages until Q2 2022, eg next summer. Glad I got one of these bastards already. Gonna be rough for Sony trying to sell games when no one can get a PS5. And no reason for devs to rush games like Ragnarok or Elden Ring out this year.

Loving it.
The interface is a lot cleaner and way more streamlined so new users will fine it very easy to use.
There are a few things I dont like about it like when turning the console off you have to do some extra clicking whereas before you just had long press the PS button and then shut it off from there. Now you have to navigate your way to it. Annoying.
I haven't played any real games on it yet. Been fooling around with the media aspect of it. Less than pleased. There are a few features missing that were on the PS3 and PS4. Hopefully this just gets added later.
I did played Astro's Playroom and working my way to the plat though. Next game on deck is P5 Strikers which I got from Amazon a few days ago.
