I like that. Focus on continuity, when you're a sub-.500 team. Now that is really out of the box thinking. :lol
My lone hope out of this year's fiasco is that ownership will finally see the need to move on from the Old Asshole. The NBA ain't poker; Pop can't stand pat hoping nobody is aware that his hole card is an unmatched deuce of clubs

That Wiggins trade was just weird. I don't get it for GS. Wiggins sucks ass and has 0 bbiq and plays 0 defense and gets paid 30+ million for like 3 years :lmao Russell is definitely a better player. Warriors could have gotten a much better return in the offseason for their #1 pick + D-Lo. No idea why they jumped the gun for a worse player making more money

More to do with the knicks being dumb than anything else. We can hope marcus turns into a locker room cancer and destroy team chemistry.
The Knicks just hired Leon Rose as president (head of basketball operations). Rose is a long time player agent. He knows the business of the game better than most, and he has a LOT of good contacts in the player community. Probably the best thing they've done in a generation. If they give him the elbow room he needs, they just got a lot smarter.
BTW - the Knicks were talking about Morris being a possible mid-season trade chip when they pulled him away from the Spurs.

The owners have as much balls as Brian Wright. Lord Commander Pop is infallible and the Holt children are building his golden statue as we speak.
Wrong. Treadmill team is a team that is .500 or worse and far from certain a playoff team. MEM was winning 46-50+ games and made WCF and Semis 2x.
Yeah for Sa that’s unacceptable but when you don’t have a Duncan? Not bad at all.
MEM shouldn’t have been quick to move on. But they made the call when the time was right. Will SAa?
I mean, the team won 48 last year and should've beat DEN with better rotations. Nephew was still on the roster prior to that.
If the Spurs prolong this a couple more years I can see the criticism. But to say that they're holding on for too long is premature right now. Then to compare them to teams that held on even longer, and prop those front offices up as geniuses? That's just inaccurate, imo.
This team, with all it's flaws, is still just as much of a contender as those grit and grind teams if Pop would just stop being such a faggot with his rotations.

Comparing Bertans value now vs what it would have been had he stayed with the Spurs is completely unfair....
Pop would have absolutely neutered Bertans so much this season that he'd be barely worth a 2nd rounder... that's what happens when you would be playing for the worst coach in the league by far :lol

Two 1st my god.
Perfectly highlights just how big of a problem Pop's favoritism is.
Underutilized and undervalued just because he was never one of the pets. Too worried about who's a wonderful human being and who lifts the most weights when the only thing that should matter is who's best at making a difference on the court.

GSW stealing the one year tank a thon and gathering assets like ZeusWillJudge (https://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=54031) suggested the Spurs do for a quick turn around a couple of years back.
I don't like to say "I told you so", but some of the things I got bashed about are starting to dawn on people as the sad truth.
Okay, who am I kidding? I do like to say "I told you so". :lol
Two 1st my god.
On the other hand, if the Wiz get a first for Bertans, I'm going to have to eat some serious crow. But if they somehow manage to get two first rounders for him, I'm actually going to have to go buy some extra crows to eat.
What gives you ANY hope that will happen?!
I have zero hope. Brent is untouchable.

Really respect the teams trying to get better during the deadline.
Pop/RC usually just sit on their asses and wait for whatever washed up vet shows up on the buyout market. Probably cost Manu and Timmy another title or two :lol

Trying to compare what the warriors are doing to the spurs is silly.
They are coming off an incredible 5 year run and have 2 injured superstars who are top 20 in the league. They know they will be back next year. Most people also expected from the outset of the Russell signing that the warriors would use him as a trade piece at some point.

Pop would have absolutely neutered Bertans so much this season that he'd be barely worth a 2nd rounder... that's what happens when you would be playing for the worst coach in the league by far :lol

It's not a real NTC. He was a one-year Bird. Same reason why LAL couldn't get Morris without trading Green. KCP vetoed any trade involving him. Pretty sure no one in the league has a legit NTC right now.

A little less than an hour before the NBA trade deadline, everyone one might expect to see at Spurs shootaround was at shootaround. No DeMarre Carroll, who did not travel with the team on the rodeo trip from the start.
There has to have been a real fallout between Pop and Carroll for a vet to be this completely alienated from the team without “sitting out the season and rehabbing in NY a la Kawhi” or refusing to play for a small market with a young team like snob Iguodala.

Conservativism works when you're loaded with HOF'ers.
When you're starting one of the worst guards in the league, your drafting has been hit or miss, you have two fake stars, your bench has Gay/Belli playing major roles, have no real starting caliber 4, and just lost a player in Bertans to sign two guys - one who doesn't play and one who went to another team - then...not so much.

I didn't mean this year specifically, I meant this stretch, which will probably last for 2 years or so.
These things generally don't end well, unfortunately. The Celtics needed like 20 years to recover after their historic run. The Lakers needed like 9 years to get back after Magic(and that's LA, they always have a geographical advantage) and it's been 10 years since they won a title post-Phil Jackson.
Pop is the father of this franchise, he took care of us forever, brought us titles, he was a great provider. Now he has Alzheimer's and we have to tolerate these next few years until he dies(retires from basketball).

I'm not even making a Buyout market thread like I usually do - I'm in full tank mode -- Again never thought I would be saying that with the roster we had.

Nene would be our starting 4 and Waiters would be our shooting guard if Memphis waives him)))

This is actually a reasonable take. I can accept this. I can't accept, however, the lengths to which people will go to claim Pop's decisions are benefiting the team. They are objectively bad. He's been bad for a while now. He had a good run, but I hope he retires after the Olympics.
Are there still people here defending him, though? I don't think there's anybody left that thinks he's a net positive at this point:lol
Maybe non-Spurs fans, I suppose, but I honestly never see anybody on Twitter ever talking about the Spurs either way. They're just an irrelevant team now, unfortunately. Not bad enough to be a joke, but not good enough to matter. The worst kind, the team you don't even notice.

Wrong. Pop will be here next year too...at a minimum. I think there’s a good chance he coaches at least 2-3 more years
Yeah I don't believe for one second Pop is going to end his coaching career not making the playoffs. He is going to be around at least long enough to give Forbes an extension and then let either Lonnie or White walk because well we just paid Bryn Forbes and there is only so much money to go around...
Oh and Patty is due another loyalty contract after next year...got to be sure to stick around to give him that and hug him and tell him how much he meant for these every increasing first round exits...

There's more truth to that than most people have considered - yet.
If they had done a 1-year tank, gotten rid of some dead wood contracts, and built for the future it would have shown that they had a vision. Now it just looks like they failed. Miserably failed. And there is no visible plan for the future. And that, more than the San Antonio night life, is something FA's aren't going to want to go to. But the two things together is a hell of a big hurdle.
Some of you said that even a 1-year tank would fuck up the future. And I kept telling you that dwindling into insignificance would hurt the future more than anything else. This thing they have done is the worst of all possible worlds, and I'm really afraid that they have dug a hole that they won't get out of for a long time, if ever. The only way they're going to fix this any time soon is if they get really, really lucky... again.

I, as someone who has been beaten to the punch by you on those threads, agree. I do think they'll buy out Beli and maybe Carroll, but if they do, they'll replace those guys with prospects or bring up Eubanks. Actually, waiving Beli and letting Keldon stay with the big club would be all right.

Are the spurs getting black balled or just refusing to play ball?
Honestly they are just f’ing stupid. They are so retarded that they don’t understand that they are stupid and that what they are doing is the opposite of what they should do.
i think it’s a Seinfeld episode where one of the guys does the opposite of what he thinks he should do and everything in his life improves. That’s the spurs. If they did the exact opposite of what they want to do, we’d be title contenders

So Brian Wright was "credited" for the Leonard trade, oversaw the Bertans/Morris situation, and just laid an egg at trade deadline. If reporting on Leonard trade is reliable, we know the Lakers offer (Ingram, Ball, pick) was better and would have retained Green, the Philly deal (Covington, Saric, and a pick) was arguably better insofar as Covington appears to have more trade value than DeRozan, and the Kings were rumored to offer the #1 pick, which could have been Doncic....
In short, do we have any reason to believe Wright is good at his job? What the hell is going on in the Spurs' front office?
Plus, has anyone else noticed that the Express News is a PR arm for the front office these days? Finger, Orsborn, and McDonald toe the company line...

If we wanted to, we could probably achieve 10 or 9, which at least improves the odds of a lottery miracle by a little bit.

And this is a PERFECT example of why free agents don’t want to come here. SA is not a destination place as it is, then you throw in Pop pulling this shit smh. Demarre is getting screwed.
Morris wanted no part of Pop and backed out the first chance he got. :lol
You know it's bad when players who are already here don't want to put on a Spurs jersey to enter a game.
