I don't understand this disrespect for Japan. They are the Asian champs and made it to the quarterfinals in '02.
Maybe they are a little overrated but Japan is a good squad. I thought Australia's win today was big. They played some great defense.
Anyway, Brazil against Croatia tomorrow. That is "Must See" TV.

Ooh we have a world cup thread. Sick.
Gus Hiddink has been huge for Australian soccer, sure his tactics in the first half were a little.. different, but he came through. I think his coaching and overall motivation of this team has been exceptional.
Man I am so proud of the team, that was so sweeeeeeeeeeeet! I haven't been that excited over a non-basketball sporting event since Australia smashed the US in 4x100 freesytle relay in 2000. Hope ya'll remember :smokin

I'm the ignorant American who believed his Nation's team was going to give everything they had out on the pitch and earn the respect of the rest of the World.
I'm glad the Aussies did so well though, I was cheering them on and went nuts at the end of the match. Maybe they'll be the 2002 US team of this World Cup, or at least advance to the round of 16.

That shows how UN-natural the flop was... if you get hit in the legs/ankles, I don't think you would pull both feet up to your ass, tilt your head up in agony, and spread your arms out to the side.

as far as i know each fed. gets the same number of tickets. Some are for "neutrals". The reason for smaller group of australian fans is probably the same as the one behind smaller group of Euro fans at the previous WC - distance and cost.

did you know it was sold out in the first 1hr, and the trial game against greece was also another sold out game with 85000 at the G. we only get to see australia play on home soil like once or twice if we're lucky a year. it wasnt a matter of price n distance, its the chance to see them play live.

Fans killed for cheering too much
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -- Thai police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed two soccer fans at a beach resort after complaining they were cheering too loudly during a broadcast of Italy's World Cup opener against Ghana, officials said Wednesday.
The two men, both Thais, were watching Italy's 2-0 win over Ghana at a restaurant Monday at the Thai beach resort town of Pattaya, and erupted in roars when Italy scored its first goal, said Panipha Wattakul, a girlfriend of one of the victims.
A man seated at a nearby table asked them to quieten down, prompting a heated argument during which the man pulled out a handgun and shot the football fans at point blank range, said Police Col. Somnuek Chanket, the Pattaya police chief.
The victims were identified as Chamlong Rongsaeng, 30, and Somnuek Sonkun, 41.
Police know the identity of the gunman, who fled after the shooting, Somnuek said.
Thailand has never competed in the World Cup. But despite the Southeast Asian nation's poor showing on the international football stage, millions of fans are glued to their televisions during the World Cup and millions of baht (dollars) are spent on illegal betting, polls show.
Pattaya, about 110 kilometers (70 miles) southeast of Bangkok, is known for its beaches, its thriving sex industry and high crime rate.

Who does England face in the round of 16, does anybody know? Because they are really going to have to pick it up to make it very far in the elimination rounds, that's for sure.
It depents on how the groups end up. Germany and Ecuador come out of group A, so the winner of that group will play the 2nd of group B and 1st of group B will play 2nd of group A.So it will be 1/16 final of group B England/Sweden- group A Germany/ Ecuador.
I think Ecuador will win group A because a draw will be enough for them so it looks like:
1A Ecuador- 2B Sweden
2A Germany- 1B England
*if Germany wins group A exchange Germany and Ecuador...

I aint argenine but still nobody know's if he will play. They say he's in good shape to play though.
He's not starting, at best he'll play some in the second half. He was recovered from his original injury, but a few days ago he suffered another minor setback, with a bruised foot, that puts his status further into question.

Ok, that goal was lucky as hell. They didn't call the foul on the origional strip, then the goal hits the post and is knocked in by a serbian player. :lol

Was it? I didn't see that. I saw it hit the post but no Serbian player. Either way, its payback for Crespo's goal

Yeah, it hit the post and was riding the line until one of the defenders while jumping over it nudged it in. I need to see it again, but I'm almost positive thats what happend.
