This is how it looks like:

Germany - Sweden
Argentina - Mexico

England - Ecuador
Portugal - Netherland

Italy - Australia
Switzerland - Ukraine

Brazil - Ghana

We will watch some great games. Tomorrow are two matches:

Agree, I want to se a good match too.
But Ghana can win, because Brazil team will underate them, and they will perhaps not play with all the power agains them. Everything is possible.

Nay, Korea deflected it. The Assistant fucked Korea by raising his flag.

game doesn't stop until the whistle blows. The flag is there for the main ref, not for players.

Swiss win, France wins.

I'm not scared, but Germany is a tough team.

I have confidence in Juan Riquelme, "el loco" Carlos Tevez, Hernan Crespo, Lionel Messi, Javier Saviola, Maxi Rodriguez, "el raton" Roberto Ayala, Sorin, Cambiasso...

they will dominate.

For some reason I thought we had met more times than that...

I mean we have like thirty something meetings with Brasil and only 14 with Argentina... weird.

What's even weirder is that in the years spanning 1985-1993 (During the Maradona-led years and later Batistuta) the record was 1-4-1...

hegamboa, you should really look more into the times you've met us under important competitions. I know Argentina usually doesn't send its best squad for friendlies and the such. For example, did you know the US has beaten Argentina more times than Argentina has beaten the US? but every time we've played the US it has been for friendlies and every time, we've sent our third squad. So those sorts of things can be decieving.

Although I do agree Mexico can be a tough opponent when playing their very best football, the thing is, they aren't right now. Who knows, anything can happen really.

Disagree. Its about goal scoring ability and Germany is on par with Brazil and Argentina. The best defense in soccer is ball possession, shots on goal and goal scoring and germany is good at all of this. they can distance themselves from other teams with their offense alone.

Also the home team has a history of doing well in world cup.

The problem is when you face the bigger teams you are not always going to have that advantage. The competition is better. It's not like Germany would dominate possession 60 to 40. In 1998 Brazil was thinking the same thing. Then they got reamed because of horrible defense and lost 3-0. All it takes is one chance and it's a goal because of bad defense. Even fat boy Ronaldo will score every time. As bad as Sweden as played they had 3 great scoring chances that should have been goals. The D pathetic and it will show. That is all.

No way...plus there aren't usually all the BS theatrics to go with the flop...

These guys will not even get touched and you'll think they are half dead...then they get stretchered off the field to add to the dramatic effect.

I've seen guys get compound fractures in their legs in NFL games with less theatrics than some of the Soccer players pull when they don't even get touched.

And about the only thing that gets you stretchered off an NFL/NBA game is a broken neck.

Wow.

That game was a disaster. Argentina is very lucky to have won that game, it could have gone either way.

They did so many stupid plays, it was incredible...at some points they just looked aweful, the defense was pathetic. I think Argentina's midfield was very weak. They are not gonna get past Germany playing like they did today, so with that said, they better fuckin step it up!!!

I am questiong Jose Pekerman in putting in Scaloni instead of Coloccini for the injured Burdisso....Scaloni was aweful, the fucker looks clueless and he made more mistakes than the Mexican team combined. Leave Coloccini, he played well against the Netherlands, and there's no point of bringing in some scrub that hasn't played in the World Cup yet for an elimination game.

I think Argentina should start Messi + Tevez, just to get quick goals. Those two guys are scoring machines, they will get you the goals. Not to take anything away from Crespo, but I like these guys better. Maybe Messi + Crespo, then Tevez as a last resort.

Messi played great today, you can just see how fuckin good that guy is and how good he will be. He will retire as a legend, mark my words, this guy is the complete striker.

Carlos Tevez played like an idiot today. He has crazy skills, but he is abusing them. He's playing as if he were AI in the NBA...he thinks he can get by everyone, and sometimes he can, but you gotta fuckin pass, or take the shot on goal earlier.

Is it me, or does Tevez always wait til the last moment to shoot, and ends up not getting a shot on goal at all???? He tries to penetrate all the way in when he has a clear shot... Whatever, I just hope he plays better vs. Germany, if he plays that is.

And thank God for Maxi Rodriguez, that goal was crazy. I was NOT expecting that.

A little fluff story to pass the time.

2006 FIFA WORLD CUP: 'You feel powerless in front of the telly!'

Tony Parker, professional basketball player

After training at INSEP in the Paris region, Tony started out as a professional with Paris Basket Racing (in which he is now the chief shareholder). In 2001, he penned a deal with San Antonio Spurs and set out to conquer the west of America. The first Frenchman to win the NBA title (in 2003 and 2005), the youngest first-choice playmaker in the NBA’s history, the first Frenchman selected for the All-Star Game this year… At only 24 years of age, Tony Parker is collecting one record after another. A bronze medallist with France at Euro 2005 in Serbia and Montenegro, he is the shining star of his national team.

Where did you watch the match?
I’m on holiday in Los Angeles at the moment, but I wouldn’t have missed the France-Togo game for anything in the world. As you can imagine, I was getting quite tense there in front of the television. The atmosphere was really electric. It’s a lot less stressful to be on the pitch than in front of the TV, as you feel so powerless. You just have to grin and bear it because everything’s out of your control. I was confident before the game, but when we missed so many chances during the first half, I was afraid that the same thing could continue right up to the final whistle. In the end, everything worked out fine and we’re through to the last sixteen. That’s what really counts.

Did the final score reflect the match you watched?
If we’d been a bit more clinical in the first half, we could have wrapped things up a lot earlier. But the lads never panicked. They controlled the match really well, and when they came back out after the interval, you could see that their desire was undiminished. So it was no real surprise when Patrick Vieira opened the scoring with a fine shot on the turn, followed by the second goal that clearly meant so much to my pal Thierry Henry. Vieira was quite rightly named Man of the Match as he was absolutely everywhere: winning the ball, starting off moves and getting on the end of them too. The entire French team should be proud of themselves, as they put in a very good all-round performance. Now, it’s time to start thinking about Spain. I’m confident about the game, as France have finally kick-started their World cup campaign.

From what you’ve seen of the tournament so far, which team has struck you as most impressive?
Argentina look awesome. They play really good football from a technical perspective, and they all seem to have great touch and individual ability. But I’m not writing off Germany either. Playing at home is a massive advantage, as the whole country is behind the team. Throughout World Cup history, we’ve seen how the host nation invariably goes quite far in the tournament. As for Brazil, they’re a team that’s growing in power and anyone who underestimates them will do so at their peril. With the likes of Ronaldhino, Robinho, Kaka, Ronaldo and Adriano in their side, they’re always going to be a force to be reckoned with. But as France are going to play them in the quarter-final, that will be the end of their tournament this time. (Laughs)

Who do you expect to see in the final four?
It’s impossible to pick out four teams at the moment, so I’ll mention Germany, Brazil, France, Argentina, Italy and England. As you can see, I’m not exactly a risk-taker. (Laughs)

How important is football to you?
Actually, I was a footballer before I took up basketball. I used to play up front, and although I gave it up quite early to concentrate on basketball, I remained a big football fan. As a European, that’s pretty much par for the course, as football is the number one sport. I moved to America five years ago, but I try to watch as many games as possible on television, and if there’s a game I’m interested in that’s not being shown, I go online to find out the result.

What club do you generally support and why?
I support two clubs: Arsenal and PSG. Why Arsenal? Because my friend Thierry Henry plays for them. I was lucky enough to meet him a few years ago and we hit it off straight away. We both quickly realised that we have the same way of looking at tings, so we understand each other effortlessly. Whenever my schedule allows it, I head off to London to watch “Titi” play. I always find a way of getting to at least one match over the summer, although it’s going to be a bit trickier this year as I’ll be involved in the Basketball World Championship in Japan in August. Also, I’ve got a special place in my heart for PSG as it’s the club I grew up with. When I was playing for Paris Basket Racing, I used to go to the Parc des Princes all the time. I have to say, I’m a bit nostalgic for our glory days of the 90s, but I’m hopeful our time will come again.

Is there a particular charity you support?
I support several causes, including my friend Boris Diaw’s association. All the information will soon be on my website, www.tp9.net./

Your projects?
I’m currently on holiday relaxing before heading off to Japan in August with les Bleus for our own World Cup, the FIBA World Championship which starts on 19 August.

Hey if there was a game between England and polandprzem today, I'm sure there would be a tie after 1st half.

Great freekick by Becham. Ecuador really fell apart after that, no sense of urgency whatsoever.

Okay then.

Are you agreeding to the rules I posted?

Well I win when England wins with 2 or more goals
You win when Ecuador wins this game or they will be tied after 90minutes of play.
If ENG wins it by one goal then we even - nobody wins this bet.

Then we have a dealhahaahaha

This damn Russian went to the Bavetta school of officiating.

You think the ref is doing fine? You must be watching a different game. Dude is lucky Costihina was an idiot later on in the half, because he should have been gone earlier. On top of that, the Dutch got robbed on a no call in the box. That was pretty godamn obvious as well.

On the flipside, the Dutch have ruined 2 or 3 awesome chances. Kuyt isn't impressive in the least. And they're lucky to be down only 1-0 after that incredible save.

Sorry, Dan Crawford school of officiating.

As Manny says, the Dutch are lucky to still be in this game, but Portugal's not playing all that great either.

Fuck the Netherlands, dirty ass bastards. Not only are they diving at any little thing, they took out Ronaldo by beating the shit out of him.

Gotta love the emotion he was displaying when they took him out :tu

MannyIsGod

Yeah, but the Netherlands have been on the raw end of a bunch of calls man. A lot. That kick to the chest in the box and no call? Wow.

Pretty obvious, but after the whistle. In that moment he might have not seen this.

Good officiating so far

STFU already

Good game

I'm guessing that's payback for the shit they're doing on the other side of the pitch.

could I get the context of that quote? I believe you, I just want to see how the conversation went

I saw it on TV... I was like what????? I don't know if it was ever written down... it did, however, raise hell in Mexico...

Well, despite the fact that we only have one starter in Europe, I believe Mexico showed it could play at 'their' level without the need of carrying 'European' stars....

Good gameKiss my ass. The officiating hasn't been good. If you want the bitching to stop, it will when the officials become consistent. They've been horrible during this WC and everyone realizes it but you'd just rather ignore it.
