Washington's 100% right. Yeah this is probably our weakest part of the schedule but an 11 game winning streak is tough to pull off no matter who you play.
No team has done it all year except the Rangers
Texas Chili Dog
06-25-2010, 08:17 PM
Hamilton so far tonight: 2-for-2. Unreal
Texas Chili Dog
06-25-2010, 08:43 PM
Hamilton: another hit and the game tying RBI. 3-for-3 :lol
Walks in a run :lol
3-2 Rangers
Texas Chili Dog
06-25-2010, 09:03 PM
Damn, Colby has fallen apart the very next inning. That lead was short lived...
Ouch not pretty.
But a 2 run deficit with the Rangers could be erased within seconds

Game over, season over.
Still hope 1 on, no outs bottom of the 8th, with the top of the lineup coming up down by 4.
Just draw a walk or two, get the bases loaded put some pressure on them
Texas Chili Dog
06-25-2010, 10:24 PM
Ok Murphy gets one. Still down by three and two outs in the 8th.
7-4 with Vlad up :clap

On the bright side, the Rockies took the lead on the Angels. They are up 2-1 in the 5th.
Texas Chili Dog
06-25-2010, 10:36 PM
Please tell me those were Astros fans cheering that the ball got away and not Rangers fans cheering that the ump got hit with the pitch. Regardless of prior ball/strike calls that didn't go our way, that'd be pretty low to cheer like that.

Whisky Dog
06-27-2010, 10:43 AM
Before the first game against the Astros in Houston the Rangers had some lackey dig up the silver boot, strap it into a car seat, and drive it to Houston. Should have just left it where it was.
This really isn't a rivalry anymore. I'm just ready for this series to get over with so we can go on out to LA, and bury those motherfuckers

God, Hamilton's home run was just ridiculous.
If the Dodgers didn't blow a four run lead in the 9th inning to the fucking Yankees, we'd be tied with them for the best record in the majors.
btw, I was at the game tonight and it was the second straight game I've attended where we have scored at least 10 runs. And the third game we've scored in double digits of my 7 games total. We are 6-1 this season when I go, including winning 6 in a row.

haha actually, I purchased a 16 game season miniplan a couple weeks before the season started. These are all games on my plan. So I am technically a season ticket holder, just not the full season. There's no way I could come close to attending all 81 home games. So 16 is just perfect. I'll probably do it again next season. Amazingly, this plan of 16 games of two seats each cost me only $145 TOTAL. I got seats in the upperdeck on the first base side. So it's out of the sun, is always breezy, and you still have a great view of the field.
My next two games are July 3 and July 7.

Texas Chili Dog
06-30-2010, 09:26 PM
Nice pick off by Beltre. I'm hoping he has the jitters behind him. Despite giving up the home run, he didn't look too bad.
I'm confident with Maddox and a little more experience behind his belt that he will be a guy we can keep around.
It was questionable throwing him to the lions tonight but he has some great stuff and has made a few hitters look silly in only 3 innings
Texas Chili Dog
06-30-2010, 10:15 PM
Vladdy salami!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The walks are pretty frustrating though
Especially since they seem to steal immediately after
Texas Chili Dog
06-30-2010, 10:41 PM
Ok that will be it for Beltre. Overall, not a bad performance despite what the numbers may look like. I will take it. Hopefully we can hold a lead. We had three leads disappear within an inning last night.
I'd take him anyday over Rich Harden. When Harden goes out there its almost as if he's on the other team and we have to overcome his dismal performances.
On the flip side, I think it was huge that we chased Kazmir this early. He had some great stuff tonight, but that one mistake to Guerrero changed everything
Texas Chili Dog
06-30-2010, 10:52 PM
Vladdy double. hahaha
triple away from the cycle. The ball needs to bounce about 100 feet away from any outfielder for that to happen though. :lol

I think the horrible pitch that hit Andrus changed everything. But yeah, the Vladdy bomb was fairly big too. lol

Whisky Dog
06-30-2010, 11:03 PM
Nice catch by Kinsler, was big for Nippert to not give anything up.
If we can win a game where a rookie started his first game on the road against the closest division rival it would be a big win. One thing we know now about Beltre is he will fight. He had 1st and 3rd 1 out and had Hendricks and the human pitch taker and got out unscathed.
Texas Chili Dog
06-30-2010, 11:14 PM
Treanor > Ramirez defensively
:wow if these first 2 games are any indicator, than this division race is gonna be insane. Every game this season has been decided by 1 run

Yes, but he always destroyed the Rangers. Didn't he have something like a 40-50 game hit streak against us? No one person owned a team like Vladdy owned the Rangers. Hell, his batting average at our ballpark was over .400 and we're not talking about a small sample size.
Chris
07-01-2010, 06:12 AM
Vlad was hurt almost all of last year so you can't really compare this season's stats to 2009.
Well apparently the Rangers acquired Bengie Molina via trading away Chris Ray and somebody else.
I'm not really sure what he's gonna bring besides a lot of grounding into DP's and web gems for the other team

Melmart1
07-01-2010, 06:41 PM
I think the Rangers consider themselves real contenders and needed a game caller with playoff experience. Right now they have MaxRam, practically an MLB rookie cus he has only been up intermittently and as a backup, and Matt Treanor who is older but still not much better or experienced.
To me this signals that they want a veteran to guide the pitching staff. They aren't losing much in terms of numbers vs. Treanor or Ramirez, so why not have someone with some stretch run savvy?
Spursfan092120
07-01-2010, 07:09 PM

Chris has been great for us this season, but i like the trade. Molina can hit better than any catcher on the current roster and we need a C who can control the game come playoff time. Molina will do good things with our young bullpen.

You'd think an Angels fan would know that how you finish a season is more important, and the Rangers are notorious for poor finishes, hence why they're trying to set themselves up now for a strong performance later in the season.
Then again, you're probably one of those homos that jumps between the Angels and Dodgers bandwagon depending on who is better that year.
whatever float's your boat. Like i said...if you're happy with 1 of 3...good for you.

so im fairly new to the baseball scene...bandwagoning on the Rangers wagon!
A few questions:
1) When someone in first base tries to steal second base, does the defensive player on second have to tag the player stealing base or can he simply catch the ball while his foot is on the base?
2) Why do catchers tag the batter after a 3rd strike?

2) Why do catchers tag the batter after a 3rd strike?
1) Tag, because it is not a force out on a steal. It's a force out if it's a ground out.
2) That happens only under certain circumstances. First, if the catcher doesn't cleanly catch the ball after the hitter swings and misses (no foul tip), then the catcher must tag. The batter can run to first (if he's alert), but the catcher would then just have to throw to first to get him out (it would still go down as a strikeout, and then a put-out for the catcher). The batter is rarely gonna make it to first safely. It will usually only happen if the third strike was a wild pitch.
HOWEVER, all the above only occurs if first base is open. If there is someone already on first base, then it's a strikeout without having to tag the batter.

1) What happens if the second baseman catches the ball with his foot on the base...a split second later the base stealer tags the the base. Is he safe cuz the second baseman didnt physically tag him with the glove/ball?
2) now that i come to think of it...everytime i see a catcher tag the batter, its because of a bobbled ball, but usually the batter is already turning to the dugout.

1) yes, as long as the runner stays in contact with 2nd base, then he is safe. He must be tagged to be out.
2) yeah, a lot of times the batter doesn't realize the catcher didn't catch the ball. That's why I mentioned "if he's alert." Many times, they just assume it was caught. In that case, the catcher will just run the batter down and tag him out.

Rangers, Mariners discussing deal for Lee
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100707&content_id=12051180&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

ARLINGTON -- Trade discussions between the Rangers and the Seattle Mariners appear to be heating up over pitcher Cliff Lee, according to industry sources.
There is nothing imminent, there are plenty of other teams still involved and Lee may not get traded until right before the July 31 Trade Deadline.
But club officials acknowledge that general manager Jon Daniels has been working hard to find a way to acquire the All-Star left-hander who the Rangers believe could be the one difference-maker in their quest for the American League West title.
The Rangers have been actively looking for a front-line starting pitcher, they have made no secret that Lee is their top priority and they have the Minor League prospects to get him here. As far as talent in the farm system, the Rangers openly believe they are in far better position to acquire a major piece before the Trade Deadline than most any other team.
The club is still limited by financial constraints but Daniels admitted last week there is still some flexibility in the budget for the Rangers to do something before the July 31 Trade Deadline. The club has not been involved in the International amateur signing period for Latin American players this month in attempt to hold back final resources for the Trade Deadline.
Daniels declined to discuss trade talks Wednesday night.
There is little doubt that the Rangers have the talent to make the deal. The Mariners are reportedly looking for a big bat for their lineup and the Rangers have both Justin Smoak at the Major League level and Chris Davis at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The Rangers are also deep in Minor League pitching although indications are they are not interested in talking about Tanner Scheppers or Martin Perez. But Derek Holland and Blake Beavan could be two names that might interest the Mariners.
Sources also said the Mariners need catching help. The Rangers could put Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the deal although he would hardly be the centerpiece of any trade.
There is plenty of talent in the lower levels of the farm system, especially at catcher, although the Mariners are likely to expect some immediate Major League-ready help in any trade for Lee.
Lee is making $8 million this season and the Rangers would pick up only $4 million if a trade were made right now. The Mariners could pick up some of Lee's salary but that would entail the Rangers added more players to the package.
The Rangers are hardly the only team interested in Lee, who is 8-3 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts for the Mariners. The Twins, Mets, Yankees, Reds, Rays, Phillies and Tigers are all considered possibilities as well.
The Mariners are expected to command a hefty package in return and are unlikely to jump at any first proposals. Most likely the Mariners are only now beginning to get serious with a number of teams although most Major League officials believe Lee will end up getting traded before the Deadline.
From a talent standpoint, the Rangers believe they are well-positioned to win this competition as long as the financial hurdles do not get in their way.

That would be rape if the Rangers got Lee for that.
It's going to have to be either one of Scheppers or Perez with Davis or Smoak + a catcher. I just don't see how we get Lee without giving up one of Scheppers or Perez. If we can, though, it'll be a damn good trade. I don't mind parting with Holland and wouldn't like giving up Smoak but if they can get assurances that Lee would agree to a new contract once the sale goes through I wouldn't oppose it.
