He would be similar to Derek Lowe if he just kept the ball down. Not a lot of K's but a lot of groundballs. He's just making terrible pitches to good hitters

^ :lol yeah pretty much. I'm hoping he wasn't just trying to be tough and pretending he was fine when he isn't. I'm hoping he's actually okay, but idk because that looked a lot worse than Nippert himself was indicating.

If Feldman were still in, it would be 6-6 within a few batters. Now that the bullpen is pitching, I feel more confident.

Guys on Baseball Tonight just said Texas vs. Atlanta in the World Series....dare to dream..
Oh god that would be a fucking nightmare for me. The Braves are my 2nd favorite team. I love LOVE the Braves, for the same reasons other people like the Braves. I grew up watching them on TBS. And for the record, I became interested in them at the very beginning of their 15 year division title streak. So I wasn't hopping on a successful team.
That said, I have only one true loyalty and that is the Rangers. When Texas plays Atlanta, I am 110% cheering for the Rangers. I've said my whole life though that I'd never want my two favorite teams to play in the World Series. I'm more of a glass-is-half-empty kinda guy. So the disappointment that one of my teams would lose would take away from one of my teams winning. Don't get me wrong, if the Rangers won the WS, I'd be beyond ecstatic, no matter what team it is against. I'd just prefer it to not be against the Braves. But if that's the way it has to be...then so be it. GO RANGERS :clap
PS- how's my new avatar? :hat

Even if we sweep and go 8 up I still won't feel like it's a huge lead. Just need to keep winning series and especially win series against the Angels. If we're 7 or 8 up in late August early Sept I'll feel really good about it.

If we go up 7 or more, i think that will pretty much wrap it up. (Barring major extended injuries) We are clearly the best team in this weak division, we've out hit the Angels (.279 to .258) and even outpitched them by (3.87 ERA to 4.47).
These are big margins and are no fluke. If this were the Yankees that were 7 behind us thats one thing, but the Angels are a shell of their former selves. I don't see them making a huge run out of nowhere

After this series, the division lead will be at one of these four:
1 game
3 games
5 games
7 games
9 games
Pitching matchups:
Thursday: Jered Weaver (9-5, 3.16) vs Cliff Lee (8-4, 2.59)
Friday: Joe Saunders (6-9, 4.83) vs CJ Wilson (8-5, 3.23)
Saturday: Ervin Santana (8-7, 3.63) vs Scott Feldman (5-8, 5.48)
Sunday: Sean O'Sullivan (1-0, 2.08) vs Tommy Hunter (7-0, 2.09)
I am praying Washington sees the light and takes Feldman out of the rotation for at least this series. This is too important to continue rolling him out there, and watching him fail every time. He is bringing down our entire team and it's time we moved him to the bullpen or sent him down. The Rangers have a legit 1-4 rotation. I'd argue that it's one of the best in the majors. And that makes me hate Feldman even more. His numbers are bad, but they look even more awful when you look at how the rest of the starters are doing. After Matt Harrison's great relief performance a couple days ago, I'd honestly give him the start this Saturday. It might backfire, but it's worth the risk because we all know the Angels will just destroy Feldman anyway.
I like the other three pitching matchups. I think Lee will look more like he did in the Boston game than he did vs the O's. I trust CJ more and more every day, and we should be able to pound Saunders like we always do, especially at our park. The last game features two pitchers with low ERAs, but Hunter has a much larger sample size to go with that.

Totally agree about the 1-4 rotation. Right up there with the best pitching teams in baseball. If we could only get a 5th starter that didn't crap his pants every single time like the 3-headed monster of Harden-Feldman-Beltre. It seems like any other starter besides those 4 is on the other team's payroll for that game:depressed
Texas Chili Dog
07-22-2010, 12:58 AM
Luckily for us, a 5th starter isn't needed in the playoffs. And speaking of Harden, I will be pissed if he gets anywhere NEAR the rotation again. Holland, on the other hand, I'd like to see come back when he is able. Probably will see him in a few relief appearances. If he can do a decent job, then we might see him back as that #5 guy.

I've just seen Rangers teams falter down the stretch far too many times to be comfortable with a late July/early August single digit lead. I'll say this is the best Rangers team probably ever, and I hope that is the difference.

Cuban...?
One thing for sure if Cuban is as passionate about the Rangers if he's the owner as he is the Mavs the Rangers will be sporting a 160 mil payroll soon. It's a double edged sword though because I doubt he would turn the reins over to Nolan and JD and let them continue this excellent job they're doing. Most likely Marky will want to run everything himself and if it comes down to him making player personnel decisions like Jerrah then we might be fucked. Hopefully he knows enough to have smart baseball people around him if he ends up with the team.

Well let me know, man..I wanna go...I'll buy.
I have tickets to all 10 games. But I want to sell most of them in order to make enough $ to go to the road game in Houston. That game is #1 on my priority list. #2 on my list? The Lions home game just before Thanksgiving.
We'll discuss it for sure. But right now I have to go to bed. I've gotta get up early to go down to San Antonio in the morning.

2-1 in the 3rd...was it just me or did Davis look slow when he was waved home?
He shouldn't have been waved home to begin with. I knew he was gonna get thrown out the second I saw he wasn't stopping at third. However, I do have to give credit to Davis for running over the catcher. There are so many players that will see that the catcher has the ball waiting for him, and they will do some pussy slide and end up 5 feet away from the plate.
btw, by no means has Tommy Hunter been bad tonight. But I'm a little worried that a lot of his outs are fly balls.

It had to have been precautionary after getting hit with the ball. It didn't look serious, but you never know. Can't risk it. Ultimately I'm ok with the decision. But it would have been interesting because Hunter could have probably gone the whole way.

He could have..but after letting a couple balls go where he didn't want them to, it was probably best to do it then instead of taking a chance. Hopefully it doesn't mess with his self esteem though. Getting kind of worried about Vlad though.

I remember when I used to play fantasy Jack Cust would always go on a home run tear after a minor league call up, and then eventually pitchers just stopped throwing him fast balls, he can't get a hit to save his life, gets demoted back down to the minors, rinse repeat.

Angels going down again it looks like, so Rangers are playing for a 9.5 game lead tonight. Big game for Cobra.
:wow
If we win tonight it's 9.5

Colby looking good so far tonight :tu
We have played with our heads 8 feet up our asses tonight. I would be mad but we'll still be 7.5 games up.

No excuse to lose to teams as bad as the A's or stiffs like the Orioles...

Are you even paying attention? the A's have been just as hot as the Rangers out of the All-Star break. They're 2nd in the division. They're not an elite team but to put them on the same level as Baltimore is freakin retarded.

watch out for his special move, the face-sitter.
if he pulls that maneuver off, its an instant loss. there is no overcoming it. unless you have a tasty eclair handy, to lure him off your face

are the rangers done making moves?
I like the idea of a 1st Baseman or utility guy, but I think one more big arm would make us legit contenders.
Unless the 1st Baseman is Dunn or Fielder of course. Cantu or Wigginton would be nice, but not major difference makers IMO.

Figured this would happen eventually. If not to us, then the Giants. Welcome to Texas, Jorge.

The Rangers just rented Jorge Cantu. Gave up Evan Reed and Omar Poveda. Cantu has some good intangibles with some clutchness and fire to his game...plus he's a right-hand bat who can play 1B.
