The M's tried to give the game away. Oakland got three runs and had two men on before the third out was finally recorded.

JOSH HAMILTON PLAYS CATCH; RETURN TBD
TORONTO -- Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=4652) played a light game of catch before Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, the first step toward returning to action for baseball's leading hitter.Hamilton, whose .361 average is the highest in the majors, hasn't played since bruising his ribs after crashing into the outfield wall in Minnesota last Saturday. There is still no timetable for his return.
Hamilton has a team-high 31 homers and 97 RBIs. He threw with shortstop Elvis Andrus (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=29515), out since Saturday with a sore right hamstring. Andrus is expected to play Friday when Texas returns home to face the New York Yankees (http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/_/name/nyy/new-york-yankees).
Left-hander Cliff Lee (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=5353), who skipped his start this week with a sore back, will pitch next on Sunday against New York righty Dustin Moseley (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=6214).

good news about Lee...I'm hoping Hambone isn't as hurt as they're acting, and they're using this to get him healthy for the playoffs...a guy can hope, right?

tbh this offseason it's time to make some serious decisions about this team. is a nucleus of Kinsler, Cruz, and Hamilton a smart idea considering how injury prone all 3 of those guys are?
I know we just got done rebuilding, but imho we might need to sell off those guys and keep the rebuilding process going. I'd hate to get locked in long term to any (or all 3) of those guys and have them play only 100 games a season.
With that said, as shitty as this team is right now, in the playoffs you never know what could happen. They'll be in the postseason, all we can do is pray they're fully healthy by then. Fully healthy, this team is as good as anyone in the league.

you can't blow the team up with this nucleus. raise the payroll and improve the talent around them. IMO look at moving Hamilton to first base. look at ALL FA outfielders.
Lee offer him 5 and 45, if he doesn't take it, say goodbye, get 1 or two good innings eating groundball pitchers, and improve the offense.

even when the nucleus can't be counted on for more than 100 games a season?
The Rangers this season have had like 30 something games together fully healthy.

Is this game the turning point in the season for the Rangers? If the Rangers make the playoffs, Nelson Cruz will have to do this shit in order for the Rangers to win in my opinion. I was proud of the Rangers' fans at the game tonight. They stood their ground against the cocky arrogant Yankee fans at the ballpark. We're 5 games behind the Twins, so catching them is a little unlikely considering the way they're playing. As long as Hamilton is healthy, and Cliff Lee pitches like Cliff Lee we will be a tough out.

He flew back to Dallas to get a cortisone shot in his back, and he's been saying that's been the problem in this last month. Either way, I'm glad there was something physically wrong with him, cause that was just weird how he went from dominating to being the worst pitcher on the staff.

Fun game tonight. We were sloppy in the first few innings, which is why of the four runs Holland allowed, only one was earned. But then our bats got going. We scored four runs on the first six pitches of the 7th inning. If that's not some kind of record, then it's gotta be close.

Just bought my playoff tickets! :D
With the way the team has played without Hamilton, I'd be curious to see the Rangers possibly field trade offers from him. Especially if he wins AL MVP his stock would be through the roof. I'm a little worried about his history of injuries and this team still could use better pitching. Of course, I would only trade him for a frontline ace. David Price mabye? Trevor Cahill?

Yep. The prices were definitely higher than normal. But not even close to what they are selling for on stubhub right now. I got two upper levels behind home plate (section 328) for $30 each (that same section is going for over $90 on stubhub). With the fees it came out to a little over $70 for the pair. In fact, there were a lot of areas selling for $30, including the bleachers, the upper and lower home run porch, and the rest of the upper levels. But I went with the seats that have the best view of the field.
I think lower box seats were going for $70. I'd give you the presale password, but the Rangers are too smart for that. As soon as you login with the password they email you, it becomes null and can't be used again.
Does anybody post at the mlb.com forums? I thought about it, but never got around to it. I occasionally read the Ranger forum but it's dominated by a gigantic fool/troll who trolls the Angel forum too. There's also 2 other guys that go around and just insult others for disagreeing with them. That place looks like a mess:lol

we won the division in '96, '98, and '99. What are you talking about? AL pennant or what?
The pennant is only for winning the entire league. Only two teams get a pennant per year. ;)

Exam finds Hamilton has broken ribs
Effectiveness of treatment will be known in two or three days
By T.R. Sullivan / MLB.com | 09/21/10 3:52 PM ET
ANAHEIM -- Further tests on Josh Hamilton's injured right ribcage revealed small fractures in two ribs, leaving the immediate status of the Rangers' outfielder in further doubt.
The Rangers still have hope that Hamilton will be able to play before the end of the regular season and be ready for the playoffs.
"I'm an optimist," general manager Jon Daniels said Tuesday morning.
Hamilton has been examined the past two days by Dr. Robert Watkins, a noted back specialist in Southern California, and further tests showed small stable fractures in the seventh and eighth ribs, which two previous X-rays and an MRI had not picked up.
Watkins gave Hamilton an anti-inflammatory injection at the site of the discomfort, and an epidural nerve-block injection for pain management.
Daniels said it typically takes 48-72 hours before it's known whether this treatment has had the desired effect. Once the pain recedes to a point where Hamilton is comfortable, he can return to baseball activities.
"It's up to Josh as to when he'll be able to play again," manager Ron Washington said.
Hamilton injured the ribcage falling into the center-field wall while making a catch in a Sept. 4 game against the Twins and has not played since then. He tried to swing a bat a week ago but had to shut it down because of more pain.
There has been almost no improvement since the injury occurred. Hamilton reported slight improvement on Sunday, but that was only temporary.
Hamilton is leading the Majors with a .361 batting average. He has scored 94 runs with 31 home runs and 97 RBIs, plus a .414 on-base percentage and a .635 slugging percentage, making him a leading candidate for the American League MVP Award.
With Hamilton out, the Rangers have been going with David Murphy in left, Julio Borbon in center, Nelson Cruz in right and Jeff Francoeur in reserve. Murphy, who has replaced Hamilton in the No. 3 spot in the order, is hitting .375 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in his last 19 games.

Dallaskd, sorry about your loss. Baseball is definitely not important when things like that happen. Family first.
I'm really worried that the Rangers might be tanking because they don't want to get swept in the first round. Would you rather see them get swept in the fist round of the playoffs or participate in an epic collapse and miss the playoffs? If I have to choose, I would pick getting swept in the first round of the playoffs. They haven't made the playoffs since 1999. They need to be in the playoffs again. Damn A's keep winning too.

Win two in Oakland and this baby is clinched. I'd love for us to wrap it up by Friday night so that I can watch from the comforts of my own home. On Saturday, I'm driving down to Houston for the weekend for the Cowboys game. I am leaving in the morning, so I'd be there by the time the Saturday afternoon game starts. But on Sunday, I don't know if I'd get to see any of it. The Rangers game starts at about the time the Cowboys game will be ending, and who knows when I'll get back to Dallas.
So if we don't clinch on Friday night, I'd almost rather us lose three of four and have the chance to clinch when we get home, at games I will be at. However, I definitely will be cheering for us to clinch ASAP.

Rangers tab Lee to start Game 1 in playoffs
Wilson, Lewis to follow ace as Washington sets rotation
By T.R. Sullivan / MLB.com | 09/26/10 4:28 PM ET
OAKLAND -- Manager Ron Washington has set his rotation for the playoffs, one day after the Rangers clinched their first postseason berth since 1999. The Rangers will go with Cliff Lee in Game 1, followed by C.J. Wilson in Game 2 and Colby Lewis in Game 3. If there is a Game 4, the Rangers expect to go with Lee on three days of rest. Lee has never pitched on three days' rest in his entire career.
"If we have a chance to put this thing away and we feel good about Cliff going again, we'll do that," Washington said.
The Rangers still don't know if they will play the New York Yankees or the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round. But the first two games will be on the road, scheduled for Oct. 6-7. Oct. 8 is a travel day, and then Games 3 and 4 will be Oct. 9-10 at the Ballpark in Arlington. Game 5 will be on Oct. 12 at the opposing city. Wilson would start that game on four days' rest.
The Rangers will still have Tommy Hunter on the postseason roster. He'll be in the bullpen if needed and could still be the fourth starter if the Rangers decide not to push Lee.
There was no doubt the Rangers were going to go with Lee and Wilson to begin the playoff -- the biggest decision was choosing between Lewis and Hunter for the third spot. The Rangers decided to go with Lewis.
"Just his experience," Washington said. "He has been here since Day 1 and has earned that right. Not that Tommy hasn't, but we can only go with three, and Colby is it."
The other big decision is pending. The Rangers are now mulling the possibility of Chris Davis being their left-handed-hitting first baseman over Mitch Moreland. Both were in the lineup on Sunday, but Davis was at first base and Moreland manned right field.
Moreland has been the Rangers' left-handed-hitting first baseman for the past two months, but he went into Sunday's game just 4-for-25 with 11 strikeouts in his past eight games. Davis went into Sunday's game 4-for-9 with a double and a home run since being called up on Sept. 11.
Washington said Davis will play as much as possible in the final week while the Rangers decide what to do at first base.
"I haven't made that decision yet," Washington said. "I've got an opportunity to get him some at-bats, so I'm going to do that."
Jorge Cantu will be the Rangers' right-handed-hitting first baseman for the playoffs. He has struggled at the plate since being acquired from the Marlins at the Trade Deadline, but he was 3-for-4 with a go-ahead home run on Saturday.
"I have been committed to Cantu since he got here," Washington said.
The Rangers are also committed to Jeff Francoeur being on the postseason roster as a right-handed-hitting outfielder. Both he and Cantu could be in the Game 1 lineup if the Rangers are facing Yankees ace CC Sabathia or the Rays' No. 1 starter, David Price.
The final decisions for the roster will be concerning the bullpen, and the Rangers are still waiting to see if Frank Francisco will be ready. He has been sidelined since Aug. 28 with a strained muscle in his right ribcage and he has been limited to throwing long toss on flat ground.
Washington said he has "no clue yet" if Francisco will be ready for the playoffs.
"Fifty percent is not going to get it," Washington said. "We'll wait and see if he makes progress. A lot depends on when he can start airing it out and have no problems."
Without Francisco, the Rangers will have a bullpen that includes closer Neftali Feliz, right-handed relievers Darren O'Day and Alexi Ogando and left-handers Darren Oliver and Matt Harrison. That would leave two spots. Dustin Nippert is likely to be one. The other would likely be a left-hander, either Derek Holland, Michael Kirkman or Clay Rapada. Hunter would also be in the bullpen.
The Rangers still have seven games left, and they rested their most prominent regulars for Sunday's finale with the A's. Third baseman Michael Young, second baseman Ian Kinsler, shortstop Elvis Andrus, designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero and outfielder Nelson Cruz were all on the bench.
Kinsler was not available at all. He decided to drop an appeal of a one-game suspension and sit out Sunday altogether. Kinsler was suspended by Major League Baseball for returning to the field after being ejected from a game on Sept. 10. Kinsler returned from the clubhouse to join his teammates in celebration after Cruz's game-winning home run.

Is there anyone here in the DFW area who would like my two tickets to the Rangers game tomorrow? It is a day game, so I can't go. And the one guy who I've been going to several games this year and who I thought for sure would be able to take them off my hands can't go either.
These tickets aren't lower level or anything. They are in section 339. They are my season mini plan seats and I'd like to see them get used if possible.

I'm really worried that the Rangers might be tanking because they don't want to get swept in the first round.
Quite Frankly, you are an abomination of a poster! God help your retarded soul!!

The thing is that isn't even close to the dumbest thing the 25 year old virgin has said. In the club awhile ago he said something along the lines of, "White people have experienced racism too, does anyone remember the Holocaust?"
I remember that. That was legendary.
I was disappointed in the fact that he quit posting in there right when it was getting good. The flood gates were about to open up.

Rangers win on a walk-off strikeout by Nellie! :lol
Now that is the first time I have ever seen that. For those who missed it: The Rangers got three runs to tie the game 5-5 in the 8th because the Seattle pitcher couldn't throw strikes. He came back for the 9th inning and got the first two batters out. Moreland then walked and Cruz came up as a PH. With two strikes on him, Cruz swung and missed at a horrible pitch in the dirt that got away from the catcher. The balled bounced off the backstop to the catcher, who threw to first, and it looked like it was gonna be an out. But Smoak didn't catch the ball at first and it rolled all the way to Ichiro in right. At that point, Moreland is rounding 3rd and because Ichiro's throw was off target at home, Moreland scored for the GW run. :rollin
:lmao
Kind of a weird feeling, but I haven't watched any Ranger games since they clinched. I know they had a weird 17-9 win against Cahill and 2 losses to Seattle since. I can't wait to see the replay of this one.

haha yeah you really need to see the highlights on mlb.com when they are posted. But just to give a short summary of the game that it might not show, then here ya go:
The Mariners SP allowed just one run in 6 innings. Score is 5-1 going to the 7th. A reliever comes in and proceeds to allow a RBI double by Young to make it 5-2. Another reliever ends the inning, but starts the 8th by putting two men on with one out. A 4th Seattle pitcher comes in and this is when things start to get crazy. He walks Treanor on four pitches to load the bases. Then, he walks Blanco on four pitches to force in a run to make it 5-3. Borbon then blooped a single to center that scored another run to make it 5-4. Bases are still loaded with one out. With Kinsler up, the Seattle pitcher threw a wild pitch that scored Treanor and tied the game at 5. But Kinsler and Young couldn't drive in the go-ahead run and both got out. Inning ends tied 5-5. Feliz comes in and gets a 1-2-3 top of the 9th. The same Seattle pitcher who couldn't throw strikes comes back in for the bottom of the 9th and gets Cantu and Francoeur to fly out. But then he walked Moreland, and got to a two strike count on Cruz before the last play occurred.
Fucking classic. :lol

Well WE need to win all 4 games to match Nolan Ryan's prediction of 92 wins. But that probably won't happen, so I'd take a split to reach 90. ;)

Are the Rangers going to win a game in the ALDS? Will they finally win a home playoff game? I hope they win at least 1 game in the playoffs. I would love to see them beat them Yankees in the first round but history is not on the Rangers' side.

Not too sure. The Yankees have looked like absolute crap over the past 2 weeks or so, especially their starting pitching. I wanted the Rangers to kick their ass so bad, but the Rays will have to do. :lol

True as well. I just dont see them "turning it on" like they always do this time around. Pettitte has looked extremely shaky as of late and Burnett as always has been sucking. Even Mariano has been looking not like himself as of late. The only pitcher they can count on is C.C. right now...

If Lee and Wilson can pitch well they can limit the Rays. The Rays the past couple weeks have STRUGGLED to score.
Hoping that they go back to the Andrus Young Kinsler Guerrero Hamilton Cruz Moreland Molina Borbon lineup.

I think Hamilton has to stay 3rd. You have to give him as many chances to hit as possible.

Hamilton is their best RBI guy despite Guerrero leading only due to Hamilton's injuries. You put him in the RBI position.

You do when he's your best RBI hitter.
Again, in June when they did their most damage, that was the lineup used. Thats all I'm saying to go back to.
