Either way, not allowing you to deduct your state taxes is a state issue, because you paid them taxes. The federal government i.e. taxpayer should not share in your state tax burden.

They maxed out state tax deductions at 10K. It was unlimited before that. That includes state income tax and property tax. It cost me about 5k last year.
